We are an established business at the same location and with the same name for over 70 years, always keeping up with the times and technology.

We offer all phases of expert and professional tailoring including custom made garments and very intricate jobs.

We are recommended by a number or very prestigious names in the fashion industry including Emporio Armani, D & G, Louis Vuitton, Nicole Miller, Detour, Elie Tahari, Betsey Johnson, etc.

We are always here, quick, reliable and very stable.

Our new addition includes Vince’s Village Cobbler situated next door, a shoe and leather accessories repair shop equipped with state of the art machines and expert and professional cobblers who will satisfy every apparel need you might have from head to toe.

History

Established in 1977.

The history of this business goes back to 1930 when a minute and fragile man, nicknamed «DICK THE TAILOR» started the Village Tailor which over the years has been passed on from generation to generation and has become a permanent fixture on Sullivan St.

Local residents use it, local businesses recommend it to their clients and tourist remember it during their return visits to NYC and come back to have their garments and shoes altered.

I’m in the service business since 1977.

I was a senior at Brooklyn College when I decided to start my own business, The Village Tailor.

Because of this drastic decision in my life I decided to switch from day courses in college to night courses so I could attend full time to my responsibilities as a business owner.

At 20 years old I became my own boss and ever since it’s been a learning experience and a precious and rewarding career which has enriched my life and given me great satisfaction dealing with the public.

Village Tailor is THE best dry cleaning experience I’ve had in Soho. They’re honest and reasonably priced compared to others in the neighborhood.
My suede skirt that I spilled on came back SPOTLESS. Unreal! Don’t go anywhere else if you care about your clothes. Quality service and the best people!

I’ve had nothing but good experiences at Village tailor thus far! They’re friendly, professional, and fast.
They’re not the «cheap» option but they’re a fair price for the quality of work they deliver. They also have an email notification system for when your items are ready and, so far, have done one-​day turnarounds on simple alterations without me requesting it.
Keep it up! Will be recommending to friends.

I stumbled on this place when I was looking for a different one. I was in a hurry to get a dress hemmed before I went away on vacation… this place was so fast an efficient! They said my dress would be ready the next day! Amazing! And the dress turned out great! I live in the the neighborhood and I’m REALLY happy I found my «go to» place for alterations.

I have been to so many tailors in NY trying to find a good one. This weekend, I bought a knitted shirt at the Ben Sherman store, and the rep at the store referred me to Village Tailor to have it modified. First off, just the fact that Ben Sherman was the referral speaks volumes. This is a high end store that would not recommend just anyone to tailor their clothes.
I needed to have the collar on the shirt stripped, reduced in size, and stitched back on. This was on a KNITTED SHIRT!!! I have asked other tailors do similar work, and they have declined because of the difficulty or charged a lot of money. Village tailor did an amazing job and for half the price that I have been quoted by other tailors for similar jobs.
This is the only tailor I will go to from here on out. Village Tailor is a GREAT business that does EXCEPTIONAL work.

Stop searching for a tailor, you’ve found them.
After a series of hits and misses w/​tailors around the city, I’ve found my go to. Nobody touches anything of mine except for Village Tailor & Cleaners. Vincent is very fair on pricing and communicates well on timing.
Antonio the tailor is an artist. He’s taken on every complicated project I’ve had and executed with perfection. Examples:
— Multiple suede or leather John Varavatos blazers with working cuffs, all sleeves shortened from the shoulders.
— At least 10 suits, all slimmed down to fit perfectly.
— Recreated some detail on the cuffs of a very expensive jacket shortened from the sleeves.
— Time permitting, has done pants on the spot for me after purchases in SoHo. (I mean, are you kidding me?)
There are some people I don’t mind giving money to. Village Tailor & Cleaners are on that short list. Trust these guys w/​your expensive pieces. They’ve always come through for me.

Had a skirt much too big so he not only had to take it in on the waist, but all the way along the skirt as well. He did a fantastic job and even had it done quickly so I could wear it before the weather gets too cold for skirts! Will definitely return for tailoring.

I have found my new favorite dry cleaners! I don’t usually write Unilocal reviews (I should because I read them for everything!) but I had to for this. To keep it short: gown for my wedding (deadline!!), horribly wrinkled, 3 upper east side dry cleaners (including $$$ Jeeves), said «would take a week minimum,» but Village handled in 5 minutes while I stood there. I am still speechless. Thank you, Village Tailor!

Been going here for a few years now mostly because of the location near my office but the people are pretty nice and know what they are doing. Never had any tailoring done but I gave always been happy with their dry cleaning.

Review for wash and fold — 3 stars because they did wash my clothing and it seems to be done well. Don’t love the smell of the detergent or fabric softener they used, but that fades and is fine.
Not going above three stars for two reasons:
1. The price of wash and fold is 10 – 15 cents higher per lb than surrounding competition
2. I dropped my clothes off on a Friday, and they weren’t ready for pickup until Tuesday after 5. I was also told I’d receive an email when my clothing was ready, but I never got it and ended up just going in Wednesday to get it. I need a 24 hour turn-​around on these things, so waiting 4 days was pretty unbelievable.
Very friendly staff. Liked the guys working there.

I bought a nice jacket not too long ago that had a tear across the chest and some expensive true religion jeans that needed a hem and some repair work to village tailor and they did a great job repairing it. The prices are competitive but for what you pay I’d rather have it done there than previous places I’ve been too. The tailor there named Kauser is very good, I’ll definitely be coming back again next time I happen to damage any clothing!

I think their rating should be a bit higher than it is (currently 2.5 stars). In my experience having a Dior Homme jacket completely retailored, they did an excellent job. Much better than other places that are «much more respected» (Hong Kong Jack). It was the THIRD time I had this jacket tailored and this was the first time that someone really nailed it (shortening, completely redoing sleeves to be very slim, etc). The only negatives are that yes it is very expensive (as many good tailors are in NYC, mind you). Like, very expensive though. It would have been a $ 130 job, but then when I added shortening the jacket it became a total of $ 160. Therefore, I would only take premium items to this place, or else it won’t be worth it. I also though that they should have called me because it was actually done 2 days before the ticket stated, and only by chance did I get to pick it up early. They also take credit cards which is nice for pricey tailoring. I would give them another job when the time comes.

I had my wedding gown tailored here at the recommendation of the Nicole Miller bridal shop. They were excellent. They were convenient (just stop by any day after 130pm), they were friendly and efficient. They emailed me the ticket so I didn’t need to worry about losing it then emailed me when it was ready to pick up. The dress fit perfectly afterwards and they topped it off with quickly sewing in a bustle afterwards as I waited. Overall excellent experience. Would definitely go back and recommend it to others.

So fast, so good, so friendly. It’s a one stop shop for shoes and tailoring. Day of service is perfection for those new jeans that you just can’t wait to have tailored. Down the block from True Religion, Village Tailor will make the hem of your jeans look like they did when you bought them but to your length of preference. They also keep early and late hours and give you a call when you’re items are ready for pick-up…or will delivery. Service and a smile!

I really hate writing bad reviews but my experience here was so terrible I must.
I was referred here by the Nicole Miller store to get my wedding dress altered and I seriously can’t believe that they are still recommending them after all the terrible wedding dress reviews!
I was told my dress would be done in 3 weeks– it took 7. Good thing I took it early.
When I went into the dressing room to try on my dress I opened the bag to find that it was not my dress– not even close. 4 sizes larger and in a completely different style.
2nd try: they give me a different bag that they swear is my dress. I open it up and it is the right style and size but has not been altered– still pinned up! The tailor then chimes in and swears that this is not my dress– that it was just dropped off. They are so unorganized!
So they open up about 10 Nicole Miller dress bags, throwing each dress on the floor as they see that it is not mine until they finally find my dress. They now have 9 wedding dresses lying on the floor and have no idea who they belong too.
I try the dress on and when it fits the owner then has the galls to say «See no reason to get so upset»
But they have not finished the seam or the bustle and are offended when I say that I will wait there for it to be finished.
So as the tailor is lifting up the dress to check the seam the owner sees my shoes and starts insulting them! Unbelievable.
I finally get the dress– which by the way is completely wrinkled and was never steamed or pressed– the owner tells to be sure to call Nicole Miller and say how happy I was with them!!!
I can not stress enough– If Nicole Miller recommends Village Tailor to you DO NOT GO!

I got my pants on my Ben Sherman suit hemmed 20 minutes after I bought it. It was 6:45 on a Saturday and they were actually there. That is the first thing that makes them worth it. I then was about to leave, and figured I would have to come back in a few days and get the pants. He told me come back in about 10 minutes! I was like 10 minutes? Ok I’ll just sit here and wait. It was a great experience, the pants fit well, he even ironed out some wrinkles that were behind the knees from being hung on a hanger in the store. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. I mean have you ever heard of someone hemming and measuring your pants on a brand new suit in 10 minutes?

These guys are amazing! Not only are my clothes (including drycleaning) done in ONE day, but they even handle my worst-​cases!
Example: I brought in an absolutely beautiful Brunello Cucinelli white jacket that had somehow gotten black smudges on it in the move. I thought I would never be able to wear it again, but they did it!
Plus I love that they email you when your clothes are ready! Can’t beat that :)

Had a bad experience with these guys a while back. Prepaid for about $ 180 of cleaning and tailoring on a couple of shirts and a jacket. Ended up taking 8 weeks before I finally got all my clothes back.
The dress shirts were tailored to different sizes, and one was now unusable. The finishing was shoddy with lots of loose threads at the cuffs.
The jacket needed to have a rolled shoulder pad replaced or fixed, which happened during a previous bout of dry cleaning. They gave this back to me as is, claiming that the work was done. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, they took it back for another round of tailoring, only to be met with the same outcome.
I requested a refund, but they declined.

Village Tailors does what it takes to get the job done, and have always gone the extra mile to make sure my clothes are cleaned properly.
Just today, I dropped off my laundry and it was after their normal service time, so wouldn’t get it back before I needed to leave for business. I’m glad I asked, or I would have been out of luck. Thankfully, somethings happened behind the scenes and they just called with my clothes ready to pick up.
Now, I don’t expect this turn-​around to be the norm, but great to know they care about my business to make great service the rule. I’m a life-​long advocate for Village Tailors, they do a great job!

Really have to agree about its being overpriced. I went in to have some pants taken in at the waist, and the charge was $ 45. I know that New York prices are high, but that’s ridiculous – I’ve paid half that or less for the same work at other places. Sure, they were attentive, and they promised to have them to me in a day, but I didn’t even WANT them in a day. So why should I pay more?

The people at the Nicole Miller store suggested I get my wedding gown altered here, and it seems like quite a few famous people have been in this store — at least for long enough to hand out a headshot.
Why are there always headshots at dry cleaners? Isn’t that kind of weird? «Trust us, if we can press JERRY SEINFELD’s pants, we can handle your proletarian rags.» What does that mean?
Anyway, they altered my dress just fine. JUST FINE. I’m not sure if I got the usual wedding-​related markup, but it was slightly more expensive than the 3 other places I’d called. Which would’ve been unimportant, BUT: my dress was several days late (good thing I got it 3 weeks before the wedding) and that seems kind of bogus — good thing I called, too, because I don’t think «Uh, we don’t know where it is, call us tomorrow» would’ve been HALF as hilarious in person. Also, the strap alteration I seem to have paid $ 50 for was a piece of crap I could’ve done myself, and it literally popped off AS WE WERE LINING UP TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE. Yay, safety pins plus my zen-​like calm!
In conclusion, meh. They did an ok job, not remarkable, and I clearly could have done a better job with the strap alteration myself. Aaaaaand they’re overpriced. So unless your main focus is to gaze at Rosie Perez’s smiling, late 90s visage pasted on a wall for some reason while waiting for some semi-​competent tailoring, go elsewhere.
