Rob is AMAZING! He first pierced me in 2009 and since then I’ve gotten 9 more body mods ALL done by Rob! He is patient with his clients by taking the time necessary to make sure EVERYTHING is done correctly from marking your piercing and sterilizing equipment to helping you breathe just before he pierces you. Wouldn’t recommend any other shop in NYC!

Came in here to simply get the clasp on my earring fixed. So quick and easy. The man helping me was very kind and the place was very clean! Highly recommend this place for piercings!

Rob was great. I had a newly pierced stud earring which sank into skin overnight. Maybe I put too much pressure on it. Maybe the healing process was a factor. I don’t know. He helped safely sanitize and switch the earring out to one with a longer post. Thank you Rob!

Rob is master piercer! I had my ears done at Venus and even though I had scar tissue from a previous piercing, Rob did a great job re-​piercing me. I plan on going back for more piercings.

I have been looking for a piercer who was quick and clean. I came across the last review where Rob was mentioned to be fast and painless. I couldn’t have chosen a better place to get my nose peirced. The experience was amazing, waited just about everything was fresh out its package. He showed me two of the his best opinions for a spot on my nose. I went with the sec dot. He had me lay down told me what he was going to do so there were no surprises. Took a deep breath in and out and that was it. It was done. He literally did the entire pricing in like 3 sec. On a scale of 1 to 10 it was a 1. I didn’t feel anything other then when he cleaned it. Best piercing experience ever. I would advise anyone who wants to get a professional experienced piercer see Rob.

Got my lip and nose pierced here (same time) by Rob. It couldn’t have been an easier or faster experience. The shop was really cool with ordering titanium for me because I have a serious nickel allergy that even some surgical steel can set off (shady manufacturers: P) and Rob knew his stuff. The place was super clean and Rob made sure I was good with the placement of the piercings since placement is important for a piercing to look good on someone’s face. And the aseptic technique was flawless.
I’ve heard nostril piercings can be a pain to heal, but both mine healed fantastically right on schedule and I got some lovely jewelry there. Definitely recommend getting any piercings done here.

i came last year and got tattooed by chris. he was helpful with the design and it came out pretty good. i plan on coming again.

One of the worst experiences ever! Last summer i wanted to get my nose pierced so I thought I would venture to this place because of the ratings on Unilocal.I ended up spending over $ 100.00 for the jewelry and the piercing. I went to change it today because I wanted to wait almost a year so my skin would heal. I went to a piercing place by me, and apparently it closed up from inside based on how it was pierced. I was so disgusted, what a waste of money! Would not recommend this place, go somewhere cheaper. I bet you the quality of the piercing will be 100 x better anyway!

The staff is so friendly and helpful. My artist Alex drew out my tattoo and explained best placement. He even explains how he would put each of the colors. He made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. Alex is quite professional and extremely knowledgeable on tattooing. I cannot wait to get my next tattoo from Alex at Venus body arts. Thank you so much for all the amazing work. The selection of body jewelry is also an added bonus. I may have to pick up some new plugs next time I come in!!! AMAZING SHOP CHECK THEM OUT!!! I stopped in early today and a gentleman named Alex was able to transition my idea from mind to skin. I’ll definately come in toget tattooed by him again, but I’m not sure what their whole angle is with all the four racks of clothes. Joe at the counter was also helpful.

On Friday November 7, 2014 my girls were off from school in New Jersey for teachers convention so we headed in to the city to get my daughters ears pierced and then head to American Girl doll place. My eldest daughter was turning thirteen later that month. We wanted to wait until our girls turned thirteen so they would be more responsible about not loosing earrings and so they would remember the experience. After doing some research from news shows and you tube we knew we wanted a professional reputable piercing place instead of going to the mall to have a an earring gun rip through her ear. We were so happy with Venus body arts. We found free street parking a block away. The store was a beautiful boutique in front and there were several sterile rooms in back. The employees were so nice and patient with us. They were very helpful in helping us pick out the earrings and with explaining the piercing process. Once we bought the earrings the posts were trimmed to the correct size and then they were put in a sterilization machine for about 10 minutes. My daughter has had no problems at all with her piercings. She followed the directions for keeping them clean and she has felt no pain, it’s like they are not even there. My eleven year old can’t wait until it’s her turn. I would highly recommend Venus body Arts to anyone thinking of getting their children’s ears pierced.

Went in to the get the top of my ear pierced. Super clean. Lots of jewelry to choose from. I thought girl at front was super professional/​informative as well as my piercer Rob. Have already recommended him to some friends.

So I live just around the corner from Venus Body Arts, and I’ve been wanting to get my piece tattooed on my arm for a long time now. So I decided to get it done by Chris Johnson. He did an amazing job on my owl, smooth hands, clean work! He listens and knows exactly what u want! Anyone who wants a tattoo needs to go to chris he’s the man for the job! Finally found my permanent tattoo artist!

My friend and I came here to get tattooed together. Just two small, simple tattoos. Easy enough, right? Wrong. We get there and not only was the staff rude to us, but both of our tattoos got royally screwed up.
I’ve been tattooed twice before, both large, detailed pieces (at other locations obviously…), so I know how a tattooing experience is supposed to go. I immediately noticed that something wasn’t right this time because both my friend and I bled lot for such small tattoos. The guy really cut into our skin. Not only did it take my tiny, *2 centimeter* tat FOREVER to heal, but it bled into the surrounding area. Now I have a stupid, blown out visible tat on my arm that needs to be fixed. And I sure as hell am NOT coming back to this place to get it done…
This was my third tattoo. I feel horrible for my friend because it was her first, and to have such a bad experience for her first time getting inked is such a shame… Only positive is it’s super clean. That’s it.

i DO NOT recommend you come to christopher for a tattoo. i came in one evening with artwork done by my friend. i had expressed that i would like the tattoo that night, but he didn’t have time to «perfect» it. christopher was like «ok you can go to another shop that’s open later, but don’t you want to make sure the tattoo artist will get it right?» it’s pretty ironic he said that, since i agreed to come back the next day, and he still fucked it up. i got linework done of a sun and a moon. i had explicitly stated i wanted them to be the same height. however, the moon is about one centimeter longer/​taller. lol. the moon is also angular/​jagged, not curved like a crescent should be. the sun is also distorted. i’m so disappointed, and i have been since i got the tattoos. i went back once to have christopher retouch it, and it made it a BIT better, just because thickening the lines distracted a littttttle from the warped artwork. however, i still hate these tattoos. notice also that the top half of the crescent moon is muchhhhh longer than the bottom, some sort of artistic license he chose to take i guess? um. anyways. also the staff is kind of rude here. when a customer walks into your studio, they shouldn’t have to be the first one to say hello [crying laughing emoji] [does not recommend maria tash, either location, for tattoos or piercings]

I went there with my 11 year old daughter to have her ears pierced. It was a great experience. They were very professional and did a wonderful job. My daughter, despite having begged me for years to get her ears pierced, was very nervous. The piercer, Rob, was very gentle with her and helped her to feel relaxed. He was even patient as we tried to FaceTime her father her was home sick. He didn’t rush us and was very calming. My daughter thought he was great and declared that when she’s older she;ll return and have him do all her piercings (She already told me she wants to get a nose ring and possibly a few more in her ears when she’s old «enough»).
I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to get piercings and to anyone who has a nervous child.

It seems that there’s a common formula most tattoo and piercing studios follow: a tight space with a grungy feel, walls crammed with lots of cliché example tattoos and someone getting inked in the back. Venus Body Arts defies this with their clean and almost minimalist shop. When you walk in it feels like a nicely lit jewelry store /​boutique. It’s minimal and organized. I was actually confused for a moment.
I went in to ask lots of research questions about a very simple piercing. Every question was addressed in a friendly and not (as per the cliché norm) in a surly disinterested way. Though my original intent was to only ask questions, the helpfulness and friendly demeanor made me get the piercing on the spot. Within a short time I was sitting in what looked like an exam room at a doctor’s office — private, clean, comforting. The process was explained one more time and after more patient planning and trial placement I was done.
I’m not a seasoned piercing and tattoo veteran myself but I’ve been to many shops with friends for emotional or creative support. This is by far the most friendly shop I’ve been to. Next time I need more work, I’ll be back at Venus Body Arts.

I’ve been a customer of the other location, Venus by Maria Tash, for several years, and kept forgetting they have two spots. I wandered into Venus Body Arts looking for the thinnest, smallest ring for my nostril piercing I could find, and was successful. I talked for a long time with the very nice guy who greeted me (I’m so terrible with names I’ve forgotten his. What a shame.). I like that this location’s focus is piercing and tattooing, and the space is clean and sparsely furnished.
I believe either location is the best place for jewelry. And the staff is really great in helping you find exactly what you’re looking for. The other very nice guy who fitted me for the ring has also adjusted my other pieces of nostril jewelry from this business.

Rob, the Efficient Piercer
Looking to get my nose pierced, I reached out to a few piercing/​tattoo parlors a few months ago and although Rob got back to me within a few hours, I hesitated because my skin has a tendency to keloid and the middle of your face is not the place to be left with a noticeable scar. Fast forward to a few days ago, I decided to just get it done. I called Venus and ran my concerns by Joe once again who reassured me that with proper aftercare, it should be fine and said I stop by any time before closing.
The shop:
It’s very clean and Spartan on the furnishing which I prefer — less distractions. They do have a rack of clothing off to the side which I found interesting. Perhaps due to the inclement weather, the staff was Joe (front desk), Rob (piercings) and another dread-​headed fellow (tattoo). The front of the store houses their jewelry selection and the back which ins’t visible from the waiting area contains various rooms/​stations.
Customer service:
Joe was handling another client when I arrived and once he wrapped up with him, he patiently answered all my questions and showed me the jewelry based on my preferences. I’m not a big fan of gold so I came in wanting a silver nose screw. Joe explained that they don’t use silver or surgical steel for the initial piece but I had the option to swap out another piece after the suggested 6 month healing period. 6 months seems generous for such a small stud but I think they tend to err on the cautious side, again, fine with me. I wound up choosing a straight white gold 19 guage bar which would be bent later. Signed the waivers while the room was being prepped (about 5 minutes). The wait time was perfect since I went alone since it didn’t give me enough time to back out or over-​think.
The piercing:
Rob was super chill. He sterilized the area and we played around with the marked spot. While trying to find the perfect spot, he explained the aesthetic reasons for not going too high, too forward, too low. That was super helpful. He’s also had issues with keloiding so that empathy was extremely reassuring. He showed me the fresh tools and told me when to breathe. Honestly, having blood drawn at the hospital was more painful. I’ve heard people talk about tearing up but Rob must be pretty good at what he does because nothing happened.
** From the front door to the bathroom, the entire shop is SUPER-​CLEAN which you should never take for granted.
Overall:
I ultimately like the final result, it’s the size I want in the exact spot I wanted it. The service ($ 30) and jewelry ($ 45) may seem a bit steep but you get what you pay for. It’s not some shopping mall job. If I thought I might pierce something else, I would be back in a heartbeat. They also do a one month follow up.

I came into Venus looking for a bar for a fresh piercing. The piercer was really nice and informative. Though they didn’t have the bar I needed, he gave recommendations of places all around the city that I could check. Great service and really clean. Best place I’ve checked in the neighborhood.
