Uncle Sam’s Army Navy Outfitters

Traveled from downtown Brooklyn taking just under an hour — to be not let into the store AT 6:50PM as they «were closing early» even though it stated on the door that they WERE OPEN TILL 8PM.
Last time I went into the store the staff were overly pushy and guided me to the more expensive thermals and when I asked if they had anymore they said no, then I uncovered the much cheaper surplus.
SHADY. Save your time and money and go to the Army & Navy in Greenpoint off Nassau Ave off the G.

I ordered from their online store to have a Pepper Spray (Sabre 3-​in-​1) shipped to the store for pick up. It shipped quickly within about 4 day (Ordered August 17^th, arrived August 21^st).
Upon my arrival to retrieve the package, there was some slight confusion as the typical point-​person was understandably on lunch. Although I was told the package was ready ALL staff present were friendly and worked tirelessly to aide me.
For the Pepper Spray itself it has not been used, so a proper critique can’t be made. It went off by accident and the person complained of a slight burning sensation so at least;
there is that.

Never will return.
Arrived at 6:19pm on Sunday, both internet and store list being open until 7:00pm.
Two separate staff members, talking through the door told me to go away, they were closed.
Seriously? Closing early and then refusing business?

I used to go to this store back in the 90’s and it’s still one of the best Army Navy stores in the five boroughs. The staff is very friendly and they had a lot of items in stock. I was actually there to try on a pea coat but their pricing was fantastic and they had my size.
One of the sales clerks told me the jacket I tried on was 40% off, when I went to pay for it, it only came out to 20% off. I told the manager that the clerk told my 40% off and without blinking an eye he said «I got you» and he honored the 40% off. Now that’s what I call customer service. I’m sure there are other army navy stores around but Uncle Sam’s found a loyal customer in me.

This store is pretty cool for army gear and related clothing and boots. The boots themselves are kinda sparce and not in the best condition. They didn’t have a large selection of knives (less than 10) and that was what I was mainly looking for. Otherwise, this is a cool store to check out.

After a violent crime occurred in my neighborhood, I came here looking for some personal self defense items. Staff was very friendly and assisted me in the proccess in finding the right weapon for me. I felt like I got very thorough information from people who really wanted to make sure I knew how to use what I was purchasing and that I would be comfortable using it. Also might I mention the great prices! Now you can whoop an attacker’s ass for under $ 50. They sell your standard military store fare, lots of backpacks and gear. I highly recommend this place!

Great place for exceptionally cheap army items. The staff is really helpful and amusing. Found an army shirt for only $ 5, and to think that I found this place accidentally.

Uncle Sam’s has friendly and helpful staff, pointing out dressing rooms, helping with sizes, asking if I needed help, and even reminding me I left my jacket on a display.
They had a wall of boots, snow hats, wool trousers, lots of lightweight fabric jackets, wool coats, dress blazers, dress shirts, leather bags, fabric bags, lunch boxes, helmets, and hats of all sorts. All the clothing was in good condition.
I went in there for a 50% sale and the prices were amazing. $ 10 for wool coats/​jackets! The only downside was sizing. I never found the right size for the right garment. The knee-​length grey wool coats were only large-​xxlarge, and I needed a medium. The hip-​length wool coats were only small and medium, and I needed a large. I saw some nice cargo-​material shirts/​jackets in small and xsmall so they seem to have all sizes, just not in the right thing. The catch is that if you are a lady, the garments aren’t cut to fit your chest so it’s hard to find anything that really fits.

Are you worried about the safety of your lady friend, but aren’t man enough to protect her yourself? You’re in luck!
Uncle Sam’s has got several different kinds of pepper spray for sale so you can give the wonderful gift of peace of mind to the woman who may or may not leave you for a real man in the near future. Perhaps she’ll even let you test it as a parting gift.
It’s located right by the W. 4^th subway hub, and staffed by exceptionally nice people. Highly recommended.

This is a fun shop if you are into it. I used to frequent here to kill time when I’m in the area, and the staff have always been nice.
I confess that I’m kind of obsessed with the military backpacks, medical equipment bags, pouches, etc. I love the durability and the practicality of these. Don’t get me started on the beret… I think people look hot in it.
They have a lot of things, from clothing to camping, to sun goggles. So if you are heading to a desert rave festival, definitely gear up here. *wink*

Best selection I have found in New York.

Staff was super helpful and incredibly colorful. They have a great selection for all your military surplus needs which makes me ask «what are those needs?». Full body jumpsuits? Satchels and bags in all shades of ‘earth/​plant’? Ushankas for those cold winters? Gas Masks for walking past Tompkins Square Park during the hot summer months? (yes it is that time of year again). Whatever they may be, Uncle Sam’s has it.

The website looked really good as the first item ordered had free shipping to Canada (and presumable the US as well), and prices looked really decent.
The sizing charts included on the site were there for tops and pans, so I assumed that coveralls would fall under the same category and went ahead and made me order. Once i received my coveralls in the mail, I realized that the sleeves and legs on the coveralls were too short for me.
First I tried e-​mailing them as instructed on their website, but I ended up getting no response. So I called them up and they told me that I could ship them back to them along with $ 10 for an exchange. So not only were they expecting me to pay for return shipping (which would be understandable if that was all they asked me to do), but they asked me to pay them a «processing, handling, and return shipping» fee for an exchange :-S For a refund, they told me they’d refund me everything but a 25% restocking fee. There was no attempt what-​so-​ever to resolve the situation over the phone (such as «why are you returning it?» and/​or «Can I help you find a size that should fit you better for your replacement»).
I was extremely disappointed and chose the return option. It ended up costing me nearly the rest of the refund for the shipping cost back to them, and they received a product that they can sell as new as I simply put it on to try and folded it right back, so it’s still in «like-​new» shape. The got at least their shipping covered with their restocking fee, however I’ll be sure to never order from them again based on this horrible experience.
I should’ve known better than to shop for clothing online, especially from such a shady website. Typically online stores give free shipping after getting more than a certain amount of items, as opposed to free shipping for the first item and additional items cost you shipping costs (thus discouraging you to order more than one item). That should’ve been a good clue to me that something was rather fishy at this site. So online shopper, beware!

This place is the kind of Army Navy store I need to walk into. Places like this in my neighborhood dont even really sell anything army or navy related anymore and it is almost all about modern footwear and some clothes. This place has it all. Alice frames? Jumpsuits? Old Gas masks? yeah they probably have it all hidden somewhere in here. I like this place a lot and they have a lot to look over and go through. I must have spent like 20 minutes alone just looking through an old pail of patches for the sheer hell of it and enjoyed myself the entire time.

If this place had any clothing that fit girls, this joint would get an extra star… but it doesn’t sooooooooo…
The stars are for the staff. My Captain and I were on a mad hunt for Army inspired clothing for a joint birthday/​going away party and Military Fashion was the theme. We were greeted outside by a guy with flyers who I disappointed by telling him I wasn’t from Texas (just reppin’ Texas roller derby on my tank top) but he was very sweet and charming.
We walked in and told two different guys what we were looking for and they gave us the same answer which was «We probably don’t have anything in your size but you should look around anyway because you never know.» So look around we did.
They each guided us around the store and they did not lie, they really don’t have cute military clothes for girls. I appreciate honesty from salespeople. They are the real deal and they may be too crunk for cute outfits.
Although, we didn’t walk out with what we were looking for there is no doubt the staff is beyond helpful and they do have lots of stuff… if you’re a dude =) Plus, they were having a sick sale which you can never hate on.
If you’re an average sized girl looking for something that will fit you, I’d skips this place. But if you have other needs or guys in your life that you wanna dress, this place is for you!

Staff are helpful though a little aloof and not the most enthusiastic upon first impression. But once you get to talking to them, they can be a little easygoing and quite interesting to talk to. I’ve bought bags here at two different occasions. On my second visit, one of the staff was happy to see me again, and was even more helpful than the first. It’s a shop that you will find yourself coming back to, time and time again, for any of your army surplus gear.
The grounds are kept very clean and it is quite easy to navigate and find things. Army gear ranges from combat boots, military clothing, bags, gas masks, hats, and more. It’s well stocked, and whatever you don’t find in the store, can also be ordered online from their warehouse in Buffalo. A quick word of advice, take note that some of their gear online is vintage/​used and could carry a very heavy musky/​used smell from the warehouse. Nothing that a quick wash can’t fix though. Also keep a lookout on their website, which they sometimes have printouts for discounts in the store. Additionally, you might notice that retail prices online are cheaper than the retail prices in-​store. That’s mainly because they have to pay their rent in the city, but when they do have the 50% coupons, their in-​store prices come out to be a little cheaper.

They were so cool here. The staff was very attentive, and very excited to help everyone with their various Halloween costumes. I loved how excited they were about everyone’s costumes. I could imagine an army navy store being resistant to Halloween shoppers, and acting offended by the fact that these customers don’t take the merchandise seriously and that they will not be back till next October 29, 2011. These guys really embraced it, and I loved that about them.
The prices, however, are outrageous. I suppose the value of these items might be increased by the fact that some of pieces may have seen battle. But we are talking about used military clothing. Many of it with patches, stains, and holes. No pair of used green cargo pants, are worth $ 60 unless they’re by Alexander Wang… or make me look EXTREMELY thin.

I have to confess I’ve never actually bought anything here, but that’s mostly because I have a pretty specific items I’m looking for whenever I go in so I don’t see them not having it as a bad thing.
Some of the prices seem a little high, but I have definitely heard customers haggling AND store employees offering discounts with basically no provocation, especially for the used/​vintage stuff.
I’m really impressed by how organized it is and the variety of stuff – actual vintage clothes, but also military fangirl/​fanboy t-​shirts, a huge selection of hats (this is important. I love hats. A lot.), shoes, other swag, and last time I was in there I even saw gas masks. And there’s a good range of sizes too – I’m used to only seeing, like, men’s xxl in used clothes so it is always really nice to actually find things that will fit me on the rack!
Everything is sized and clearly labeled, and for the most part, they keep the patches and insignias, which in my opinion is the way to go (you can take ‘em off if you don’t want them, after all, but if you do want them and they’re gone… sucks to be you).
My only real complaint is that there are WAY too many people working there at any given time. It’s not a big store, but man, every time I go in, I have to make small talk with like six different employees and, while they’ve generally been polite and friendly, it’s just awkward.

Everything you need & want at base value and no more inflated than that… almost double for naval hats understandibly at the Intrepid.
the store gets 3 – 4, but the website gets a solid 5 stars

Thanks to trusty Unilocalers to steer me in the right direction when I was in need of some nautical gear for a few upcoming sailing parties. Apparently, with Fleet Week hitting NY, a huge Unilocal open party in DC at the Naval Memorial and an office party on a boat… everyone wants me to dress up like Sailor Moon. Oh, wait actually that was the costume I had wanted. Everyone else thought that it was lame so instead of Halloween Adventure Shop I landed at Uncle Sam’s Army Navy Outfitters… basically a gussied-​up version of the army surplus store I used to frequent during high school in Ventura during my camo phase.
And when I say gussied up, I mean that the dudes working there seem to have all their teeth, it’s located in Greenwich Village and the prices are way high. The clothes here actually seemed like new, and if they weren’t they had that «vintage» feel that only worn $ 26 shirts with the name «Craig» ironed on to it can possess. I found quite a few sailors shirts, though mostly I swam in them. What happened to the FEMALE cadets and marine, huh? I did manage to pick up a white yachting cap, though it’s beyond me how they had a pile of them… I didn’t know there was a federation of Yachting fighters deployed in the middle east, did you?
They have a good selection of bags and backpack along with random camping/​fishing stuff. The guys working here are incredibly friendly and helpful, not scary and smarmy like other army surplus stores I’ve been to. All in all it meets a need, though I do think it’s overpriced … don’t they get this stuff donated? If not, my bad. Me and my $ 13 cap salute you!
