Have you ever loved your hair so much that you wanted more of it? Me neither, until last week. THANK YOU, DAVID! (And Karla for the cut; it was a combined effort.) But color can really take hair to another level.
I’ve been to many other salons in the city, but I come here for the space, the vibe, the bulldog, the people, the service. Maybe skip the coffee.
David is easygoing, professional, and thoughtful. Honestly, I would’ve preferred to have gotten it perfect on the first try, but ~platinum is a pain-​in-​the-​ass. And I’m also kind of a pain-​in-​the-​ass… Thank you for putting up with me. Until next time.

I love Paul!!! He does amazing Blonde highlights and cuts. He is the only person allowed to touch my hair. :)
When I tell him how much to trim he does exactly what I ask. This means a lot to me because I know he will not to go scissor happy like some stylist tend to do.
Paul always makes me laugh and pays great attention to detail in painting my highlights onto my long hair. The atmosphere is tranquil and the staff is accommodating.
Court is very sweet and does a great job with shampoo, massage, and blowouts. I highly recommend them.

Been going to Three Squares Studio for a few years now. Always the best cuts! My hair looks great when I walk out, but even more importantly the cuts last as my hair grows out as well. Recently, I had to find someone last minute to do my hair for my wedding and the team at TSS saved me! Lynette did a gloss for me and Karla did an amazing job on my wedding day. You are in capable hands with these ladies and anyone at TSS!

Some people invest in designer handbags or fine jewelry, but as a Leo I splurge on my hair! I first learned about Mark through his philanthropy, then saw the amazing work he did as an artist and knew I needed to go see him. Mark is a master of his craft, yet incredibly down to earth and humble. I am by no means a celebrity or «high-​end» client, yet Mark treated me just as equally, as I imagine he does with anyone who is lucky enough to sit in his chair. He was super attentive, listened to exactly what I wanted and took the time to make it perfect! Thank you Mark, for giving me one of the best haircuts I’ve gotten in years and boosting my spirit!

Amazing! Paul is the best stylist! He does incredible color, highlights and layered cuts. It grows out perfect. When I leave the salon, I always get asked ‘who does your hair’. That has never happened to me before I met Paul.
Staff are great, too. Beautiful space and art. (Bring your own magazines if that’s what your use to in a salon).

Definitely gonna try to visit this place. Just read about Mr. Mark Bustos. What a kind man. But «to see is to believe » .
And also cause the place looks fabulous!

Where do I start? Besides Karla giving me consistently amazing haircuts since 2008, this place is great.
Super cool atmosphere! Every time I go there is different, awesome art being displayed as it’s part gallery as well. It’s a great place to spend the afternoon, sipping champagne and getting your hair done.
Also the owner has the cutest french bulldog that may jump on your lap durning your shampoo if you’re lucky!

I’ve been going to Jordan Blackmore for my hairstyling for about 18 months. Before that, I went to Toni & Guy, Mario Diab, Fox & Boy, and Devachan, and they all sucked. I saw in a GQ tweet that Jordan said that a man’s hairline should determine his hairstyle, which I thought was quite interesting. So now I would only go to Jordan for my hair and he makes it look as amazing as possible. Of course, I wish Jordan was around to style it on a daily basis!

Loved this place! I went to Julia to get my hair cut. She did an amazing job! Super sweet, listened to what I wanted and offered suggestions to what she thought would look best. Honestly, best haircut to date.
The salon is really nice too, clean, open, sleek and comfortable.

Today was my first visit to Three Squares Studio. It was recommended by a talented stylist I met in Texas. She gave me an amazing cut and suggested I check out this place since I live in the city.
I had a really positive experience communicating via email with Niq, who asked me all sorts of questions to pair me up with the right stylist. This was a very positive sign! He came back with Mark.
I’m a guy with thick, dense, straight hair that always needs extra attention or else it looks bulky and awkward. FYI.
I walked in a few minutes early. Was very warmly greeted. My coat and bag were stowed and I was offered a nice drink. Next, I was immediately introduced to Mark and we talked for several minutes about my style, how my hair grows and changes, and the recent history of my haircuts.
Next up a pleasant, soothing shampoo. I’ve certainly had much better, more detailed and near-​acupressure washings in other places, but this was still pleasant.
Mark used amazing technique to carefully tailor my overgrown hair into a very sexy style. Along the way, particularly toward the end, he gave me tips for styling it using a variety of products with or without a blow dryer. Really awesome. Really detailed. Superb communication the whole way through.
I’ll be honest. This was an expensive cut for a guy. $ 150+ However, I’ve been getting $ 20 to $ 40 cuts in NYC for years and years and they’ve persistently left me unsatisfied with their slap-​dash. I’ve had to get those cheap cuts every 3 weeks to keep decent looking, but have never looked so incredible as this. I left feeling like a total stud.
I’d rather have an expensive cut less frequently that grows out beautifully, than a cheap cut that looks like trash in two weeks. I’ve already booked my next visit with Mark at Three Squares!

We met in the Fall of 2007 — I had just moved to NYC — and it was love-​at-​first-​haircut. My relationship with Karla is the longest, most successful relationship I’ve ever had.
Since then we’ve done long distance (when I lived in Boston for two years and stretched my cuts for 4 – 6 months at a time). She’s worked with me as I’ve had hair halfway down my back and also with a short bob. For a while I had a different person for color, but a couple of years ago I had Karla start doing my highlights and I’ve never been happier! God forbid if she ever leaves NY — I might have to follow her…
I’ve found that she’s great at listening (particularly if you’ve had hair drama before), but will gently encourage you to push your comfort zone in the best way possible. And if you have an idea but you’re not sure it will work, she will tell you either how she’ll make it look awesome or tactfully advise against.
Be prepared that it’s on the pricey side, but in my mind both the cuts and my highlights grow out REALLY well. And when I’ve had bangs, Karla will squeeze me in for a complimentary trim between cuts.
From a quick glance at the other reviews, they’re pretty true to the Three Squares Studio experience. The chairs aren’t comfy, sometimes it feels a bit sceney, but I enjoy it.
And Karla is TOTALLY worth it.

Came in with a GiltCity deal and I was lucky enough to get my haircut booked with Julia (since she seems to be in popular demand). I had high hopes because of the positive reviews and the pictures I had seen on their website.
Unfortunately, though, my experience was pretty underwhelming… and not that I know how to cut hair or anything, but I just couldn’t help feeling like the other reviewers were giving Julia too much credit.
She did an OK job, but my request was very simple: I wanted long layers, didn’t want to take away any length, and to thin out the proportions of my hair. I told her my hair style inspirations were Jennifer Aniston and the Kardashians.
In total, I felt like it only took her 5 – 10 minutes to do so and I didn’t really see her using any of the techniques that my Korean stylist back in NJ applies when cutting my hair. (And I always give her that same request.) And my stylist back in NJ will do the same haircut for only $ 45. Blow dry included. And I always leave her salon a happy camper.
And then came the «blowout.» I don’t think what Julia did was really a blowout, so much as a styled blow dry. I already knew my hair would go flat by the end of the hour and sure enough, it did by the time I headed to dinner. It just looked kind of wavy and flat.
Julia did mention that my hair would grow out to look like the Kardashian haircut, so I hope I can update with a more positive review in a few weeks.
Other than that, this experience just did not convince me that it would be worth it to book a $ 150+ haircut and blowdry appointment at Three Squares Studio anytime soon. I am all about saving $ where I can, but I also know when something is worth the splurge. This GiltCity deal was my way of testing the waters, and I’m sad to say that I will likely never return.
Oh, and the hair washing girl? That was definitely the worst hair wash/​shampoo job I’d ever experienced. She just didn’t apply any pressure at all, and I was so tempted to just say, «let me just do it myself.»
Maybe my experience was unique because I came in with a GiltCity deal. I hope that’s not the case though, because if that is, they should not have offered to partner up with Gilt at all.

I have NOT had any hair services done at 3 squares. But let me tell you about my pre-​hair experience with them and how their customer service sucks. I bought a GILT voucher, booked an appt with the haircutter that I wanted to get my hair done by – way in advance. Less then a day before my appt they change my cutter. I called — note that i called… as in moi — i called to confirm my appointment like 18 hours before my cut and during that call they said oh we switched you to X. I was like «what? Uh, why did I get switched? No one asked me if that’s okay.
«
their answer «oh the stylist had an ‘important’ regular client who could only come at the time you had your appt». no apologies. no attempts to be accomodating or nice about it.
so i was like, well — aside from the utter disgusting obnxiousness of them bumping me – why didnt you give me the next appt then? they said, oh he’s booked for the next month. so i asked why they didn’t bump the next person so that i could still come in but an hour later seeing as how i made my appt way in advance with a particular stylist. they said they cant do that. i asked if they bumped me but wouldnt bump anyone else because i was coming in with a «COUPON» from gilt. the guy was like — well, coupon holders dont get the same treatment as regular clients.
so i got upset. i wrote to the salon owners and guess who writes back to me and calls me – the same guy nick who is rude, does not let anyone else speak, bossy, and has no – as in zeeeero — customer service skills… and he has no logic at all. he’s telling me the opposite of what the ‘rules’ of the coupon said. i read them to him over the phone word for word and he said ‘well that’s not what we meant by that.’ then he hung up on me.
finally i had to go to Gilt and they agreed with me that the rules meant what i was saying not what nick was conveniently saying. gilt gave me a refund due to the absolutely ugly way they treated someone who was SO excited to get a haircut there.
moral of the story — their customer service sucks, they dont follow the rules of their own coupons, and they need to hire a new person to deal with «customer situation» because nick really should not be talking to anyone at all.
there are SO many great salons throughout manhattan. there’s no need to go to a salon that treats new customers like crap.

I would give it 3.5 stars… probably. I bought & used a Gilt deal here based on the reviews. The place is trendy but inconvenient to get to. No big, though, I’ll stretch those legs. I had an appointment with Allison and the haircut was pretty solid. Some unique cutting techniques (having me stand; pulling big sections of hair that she cut all at once that I wouldn’t expect), but the cut was pretty good. What really bugged me was that she asked the hairwasher, Dana, to come help dry my hair. That girl may normally be a great hairdryer, who knows (she was OK), but having two different people dry your hair means one side looks different than the other. Not cool for what is normally a $ 140 haircut.
The chairs are very minimalist in keeping with the trendy environment, but this just wound up being awkward – no armrests, and my legs were too short to rest comfortably on the floor but too long to rest on the chair’s foot peg… it was just awkward. I wouldn’t buy another Gilt deal for here.

I never know what I want with my hair when I go to get it cut. I just wake up one day, disgusted by my frazzled ends and make the soonest appointment for the operation.
LUCKILY Julia understands the frustration and woes of unsatisfactory hair, and knows how to shape it up to be exactly what you [didn’t even know you] wanted. Not to mention she actually does hair for glossy editorials, so I feel super confident giving her creative control.
If you’re shopping for a stylist, she’s «the one» !

I was looking for a new glamour hair cut and Julia Kim immediately understood me.
When I walked into the Salon my attetion was immediately captured by the immense mirror that is dividing the room in half. You really want to keep looking yourself in while Julia is doing her artistic creation. Just amazing, she spontanously fulfill your needs and perform a glorious hair cut.
100% satisfacation and I am looking foward for the next one.

I went to Julia today for a haircut and I am so happy! Julia is cute and friendly and easy to talk to. Before my hair was even washed she sat down and examined the length and texture of my hair and asked me what I wanted. I knew that I basically wanted to keep the length, maybe have some layers, and have a long bang. Julia had some ideas about how to best frame my face, lighten the heaviness and give what she called «movement» to my hair, so I said go ahead!
Julia was very meticulous and gave me a great style. I had told her that I am not the kind to spend lots of time styling myself so she gave me a cut that will naturally look good whether I choose to blow it out or air dry. I am so immensely pleased with what she has done, and I got soooo many compliments from people I know, as well as many flirtations with those I’ve never met, and it’s only the first day of my new cut. :)
I highly recommend Julia. I couldn’t really have envisioned what was possible, but it is obvious she is very talented. I can’t complain about the price because my haircut LOOKS expensive and beautiful. She is fabulous and my overall experience of Three Squares was a great one.
