This restaurant is a S%&THOLE. There was a roach crawling under our table and they didn’t even comp us. I wonder if they’re «temp. closed» to fumigate.

I went by the Palm location at 837 Second Avenue today(October 15, 2015) and there was a huge real estate sign on the building saying it was available. The interior drawings had been stripped from the wall and the whole place was broomed out. Palm Too was still open across the street but this location appears to be permanently closed.

Had one of the best filé mignons here in my life. I recommend this restaurant to everybody that wants a really tender and juicy steak that is grilled to perfection.

This review is actually regarding an experience about 6 months ago. I would give this restaurant 0 stars if possible. Wanted to get a later dinner with my boyfriend and was able to book a 10:30 reservation. Around 9:45 I got a call letting me know they close around then so we need to get there before 10:30 or we wouldn’t be seated. We managed to get to the restaurant at 10:20. I am not the pickiest person in the world but I have never felt more uncomfortable and unwelcome in a restaurant in my entire life. I have worked in restaurants so I understand when people come in closer to closing time it can be a little annoying but it is so disrespectful to seat people and then ask them immediately if they are ready to order. We quickly ordered a glass of red wine each and when our server brought it to us, he said he needed our entrée orders immediately. We had arrived maybe 3 minutes before that so we said we needed a few more minutes to decide. He informed us that the kitchen was closing soon and he needed our orders right then. We felt extremely awkward and frustrated because we were just trying to have a nice dinner together so we decided to leave and eat elsewhere where we wouldn’t be rushed and made to feel unwanted. Our waiter was a serious asshole(sorry for the foul language). Luckily we found a pub that served small plates that we were able to share. In a nutshell, I give this place 0 stars for allowing us to book a reservation AT closing time(why wouldn’t they cut off reservation time earlier to not cause this problem?) and for the WORST service I have ever experienced in my life. Seriously don’t go here.

For a celebration of our second anniversary we treated ourselves to A nice steak dinner. Our experience was amazing! After seeing an advertisement on TV, we cancelled our reservations at another restaurant and went to The Palm! We both had filets and they melted in our mouths! We might have ordered desert if they didn’t Include the Calorie count to everything on the menu. lol

From my review of the West 50th Street location: «I am a fan of the Palm. I love sharing a 6 pound lobster with a friend(though on my latest visit I ordered the Tuna Steak for dinner) and the service has always been top notch. One thing that I can highly recommend is if you think you might go back to the Palm if only but a couple of times a year the 837 Club membership(which is free) is a huge deal. Though I cannot remember the details of all of the offers that come in through email or the mail there is once and a while a deal so good that we have made the trek into the city just to experience it. If you get 10,000 points(or something like that) you will have the option of getting your picture on the wall. At my current run rate that is around nine years off at the soonest!» I have on had one lunch experience at this original Palm location. The service was great and the only«complaint» I would have, as compared to the location I am more familiar with is that, at least where we are seated, this a tight space. Too tight for me and based on that alone I will probably leave this visit as an «at least I tried it once» one.

Last night I went to dinner at the Palm, this was my first time eating at this location. I have been to their other location in Miami and I must say that the last experience was much better. Im not sure if the reason behind the food being sub par was because it was Valentine’s Day, but for the price you pay to eat there, the food should always be great. I ordered the Surf and Turf special, which was ½ a lobster and a filet mignon. Everyone’s dish came out lukewarm. It felt as if it had been sitting there before they served it to our table. The lobster tasted good and I’d say the claw was the tastiest part. The steak was cooked like I asked, but again it was not hot and it was sort of dry. It tasted sort of bland and I was a bit disappointed. For the sides we ordered cream spinach and the mashed potatoes, which were delicious. Both came out very hot which was nice. Our server was very nice and attentive, he always checked up on us to make sure that everything was alright. Overall, the food was«A-OK,» but it would have been great if everything came out hot. I would probably choose a different steak house to eat at next time I want a nice steak. The Palm has a great reputation and again it might be that this happened because it was Valentine’s Day and they were very busy, but for the price that we paid, it was a bit disappointing.

This is an old school steak house. Waiters dress very formal. The food is extremely expensive however the portions are abundant. The salads were fresh and crisp and the dressings were flavorful and well prepared. The shrimp cocktail offered four huge shrimp that were very good. The asparagus, French fries and lyonnaise potatoes were delicious and well seasoned. The steaks were prepared to the requested temperature and were huge however I still prefer the flavor of a Ruth Chris steak anyway. The veal parmesan was served cold and the meat was very tough, it was not the white milk fed veal. The dessert were also huge portions. The chocolate and the carrot cake were moist and probably the best thing we ordered. I recommend you go for dessert if you want to splurge in price and calories. The server was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was comfortable and clean. The noise level was very low. It’s a nice place to meet up for conversation as you can hear each other around the table.

Food was fine, had the set menu due to the size of the group in one of the upstairs private rooms. The steak was cooked as ordered and the sides were tasty. Would have liked to order from the entire menu but I enjoyed the taste of what I had. The entrance was a little odd as you had to walk by a bunch of tables just to get to the back to go upstairs.

Brought clients to this 2nd Ave. NYC location for lunch. The food was very disappointing. Ordered the porterhouse for one(medium rare, came out well done). My associate ordered the veal chops which was was extremely fatty(a terrible cut overall). For the price spent at this restaurant, would have expected a better service and food quality experience. They also need to thoroughly clean their silverware, drinking glasses and sweep the floor I step on a piece of steak when I sat down! The saving grace was the carrot and chocolate cake. The Palms in Tyson Corner VA is extremely pleasant in contrast, great food and service!

My family used to come here for what felt like every birthday in the family a few years back but for whatever reason we hadn’t been back in a while. Luckily that changed last Saturday when my mom decided she wanted a colossal lobster for her birthday dinner. I’m only knocking them 1 star because we had an 8pm reservation but didn’t get to sit down until 1015pm. With that exception, the service was great by all of the staff; and because of the long wait we even got taken care of by the bar.(Disclaimer: we only sat down so late because the party in front of us sat down at 6pm and stayed 4.5 hours by ordering 1 item at a time for 6 people to share) Once we sat down we had some appetizers: shrimp cocktail, a thick cut Luger style bacon, and clams casino. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, tasted very fresh, and came with enough cocktail sauce and horseradish. The clams were well seasoned, topped with crispy bacon, and we’re good sized; with a good ratio of clam to topping. The thick cut bacon was a special that evening and if it’s on the menu, make sure someone at your table gets it! 3 strips about as thick your finger, crisp and lacquer, drizzled with a spicy mustard…:drools: Entrees included: filet mignon, ribeye, NY strip, and a lobster. All of the steaks were cooked as requested. Each was well seared, even those ordered rare and had enough salt. The ribeye I had was well marbled and I ate all 24oz, it left me wanting more! The lobster ordered was a 3 pounder and the taste of tail meat I had was cooked properly and the meat(with no butter) was so sweet. For dessert we shared some doughnuts which I recommend if you’re like me and don’t have much of a sweet tooth.

Very disappointing and a massive waste of money. Went here to celebrate our anniversary dinner and my boyfriend has fond memories of The Palm going here with his family as a kid. The staff was very nice, but our waiter appeared confused and overwhelmed. We ordered the lobster bisque and another lobster appetizer. For an entrée we split a NY strip and 3lb lobster. All of the lobster was overcooked and rubbery. The steak was fine, but nothing memorable. We really really really wanted to love The Palm. It felt very dated, slow, and out of touch. The whole experience was depressing and sad. I have been to other high end Manhattan steakhouses and The Palm doesn’t even come close. Peter Lugers, Smith and Wollensky’s, make a steak at home… don’t even bother with The Palm.

This is the old school, New York steakhouse experience I’ve always wanted. I’ve tried most of the big name steakhouses in the city, including the chains, and for the most part have left disappointed(and often with indigestion). The Palm is the happy exception. From minute one the maitre d’ set the tone: friendly and inviting but not over the top or obnoxious, and he kept checking back with us throughout the meal to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. We had a reservation so we were seated quite quickly, and our waiter was also very kind and accommodating. And on the food: the bacon slab special starter was uh-mazing, my filet mignon was incredibly flavorful and cooked to PERFECTION, and the sauteed asparagus and hashbrowns were the perfect complement to the main course. Dessert was a slice of cheesecake and warm, fresh donuts with raspberry and chocolate sauces for dipping. So, so delicious. What really made me fall in love with The Palm is that every single dish was simply but perfectly prepared and nothing was greasy or too rich(and at most steakhouses I’ve been to that is almost always the case). If I want a good steak, I just need quality meat — not a pound of butter melted over the top or creamy sauces to drown the dish. If the steak is good, it should only need a little salt and a nice sear. I also really appreciated that the staff was conscientious and kind without being annoying. If you’re looking for a delicious, old school steakhouse experience this is absolutely the place.

Should’ve known better… Walked in and was seated right away, Bad Start. $ 85 porterhouse was tasteless. I complained and sent it back for another lifeless piece of meat. Not really sure how you mess up a 25-day aged steak, but they did. Go to Peter Lugers.

The Palm is your typical high end NYC Steakhouse. It is definitely a Top Ten Steakhouse. A good steak is a good steak, period. To say that this Steakhouse is better than that Steakhouse is bogus. Now, if your eating in a high end Steakhouse prepare to spend money. If you don’t service will be shitty. This is a fact of life. The Palm is old school service in an old school style restaurant. You don’t order basil infuse vodka. Scotch, Beef, Wine is the order of the day, period. Lobster Cocktail Very tasty, but I found the lobster a bit rubbery. Not offensive, but quality was second tier. You did get 6 oz’s of lobster and served chill; not cold. Prime Double Cut New York Strip 36 oz Now this is my cut of beef. All for me. Tell the waiter temp and just leave it on the plate. I don’t need someone cutting my beef. Add horseradish and your in heaven. This was one delicious piece of beef. Perfectly cooked; pretty in pink; tender; juicy; charred outside; delicious, delicious, did i say delicious. Jordan Cab You can not have an excellent steak without some awesome wine. Just order Bin 1069. You need a wine that will hold up to that beef. Jordan Cab is my friend. Over the years I have been to this location a few times. Always had a good steak, but on this occasion I enjoyed one of the most fantastic tasting pieces of beef ever. I was certainly in a beef frame of mind. Overall, The Palm is a top tier Steakhouse with a very nice wine list. Service was outstanding, but remember if you order tap water, share an entrée; oh well you know the rest; fill in the blanks. The Palm is a great place to enjoy an evening with friends or family. Outstanding…

This is the original Palm founded in 1926, or «Palm One» if you browse their site for a look at their menu. I can only comment on their business lunch menu, which I think offers a very good selection — more expansive than most other locations: three seafood choices; two steak selections and chix parm. They sometimes mix it up too with some specials, especially during Restaurant Week. If you’re not looking to spend more than $ 30.00 on lunch, their«Power Lunch» prix fixe is a good deal at $ 26.00 and they will sometimes mix that up too with some special items you may substitute, although I think it depends on the waiter you get on whether or not they’ll allow that. Substitute items were offered to me as an option one time then when I mentioned it during another visit, the waiter dismissed the idea as if I was blaspheming against the sacred Power Lunch selections. Whatever. Steakwise — NY strip appears to be their signature steak. I’ve had the strip and the filet and I’ve enjoyed both — both arrived to the table cooked to my preference. Try the chicken parm too. They pound the cutlet pretty thin, like a milanese, and smother it with a lot of mozzarella and sauce. Flavorful and a nice portion. The«half and half»(side order of fresh fried potato chips and onion rings) is a bit greasy but GOOD! Service, unfortunately, is a little hit-or-miss. I’ve had good experiences and some, so-so. Signing up for their«837 club» is easy and they’ll even credit you points when you sign up day one. Hold on to your temporary card though. Still waiting for a real card in the mail and it hasn’t shown up yet(18 months later!).

Great NYC steakhouse. Tight quarters, nothing fancy in the décor, and lots of atmosphere. The waiters are always on their game and fun to chat with. We had a business group of 5. We started with the homemade maple bacon and the grilled oysters. The bacon was like a thick, tasty ham. The oysters had spinach and goat cheese and were super fresh and got eaten right up. I ordered the bone in Ribeye which is my favorite cut next to the bone in shell. The steaks are fantastic. Prime cuts, charred on the outside and cooked to perfection. They cut like ‘butta’. The sides are good but I wouldn’t order more than one since everyone is typically focused on their steaks. A little pricey but definitely a place to go if the budget isn’t too tight and you want to have a NY steak!

I had a great experience at The Palm. It’s a nice steakhouse with fun, entertaining cartoon drawings from all different eras plastered all over the walls. I didn’t recognize many of them but I also heard that if you join the club and spend a certain amount, you can have your caricature on the wall as well. I ordered the 9 oz filet mignon rare which was great. I enjoyed all the sides as well especially the creamed spinach. The hash browns were also amazing and the mashed potatoes with Gouda was pretty good. For dessert, I highly recommend the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. It was sinfully delicious. I do want to come back and try the flourless chocolate cake though as it also sounded really enticing.

Hugely disappointing. To be honest, I’d probably go 2.5 if I could, but since the food was just okay and the service sucked, I’ll stick with 2. I came here for lunch on a Monday with my brother. I got their 3-course lunch special(Caesar salad, petite filet mignon, cheesecake) and my brother got a strip steak with a salad. Every course took forever. I know its a steakhouse, but when you’re in NYC in a business district, you’d think that you’d understand that people are there for a lunch hour. By the time our order was taken and the salads came out, we already lost almost 30 minutes. The entrees were probably another 10 – 15 minutes after we finished the first course. When we finished our entrees, it took at least 10 – 15 minutes for the waiter to come back about dessert(which we got to go), and he never came to check on us. We asked for the check at that time, and it was at least 10 minutes or more for the check and 10 minutes or more for him to come back for the credit card. All in all, lunch took around 1:45, which is unacceptable. As for the food, I think I’ve had better steaks at almost every other steakhouse(Mortons, Flemings, Pete Lugars, McCormick, Malio’s in Tampa, and others). It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t have my mouth watering, whereas a week later I got a filet at Malio’s(who no one would compare to the nation’s top steakhouses) and it was wonderful. I’m glad I went, since there is a Palm in Tampa that does a happy hour that I’ve been meaning to check out, and now I won’t waste my time.

The original. Opened in 1926. And from the looks of it, not much has changed. Five of us went here for a co-worker’s going away party. He loves The Palm, is a member of The 837 Club, and aspires to one day have his caricature on the wall. I wanted to surprise him by buying the rights to have his face on the wall, but unbeknownst to me, that costs about $ 15,000. Needless to say, his bucket list wish was a little out of my price range. I’ll preface this review by saying that they handled two bad situations very well. The first was overcooking the filet mignon. It was ordered medium and came out medium well, and therefore somewhat dry. Without even complaining, the waiter recognized the steak was overcooked and offered to replace it. We accepted, and the new filet came out closer to medium rare, but it was delicious. The second bad situation was when the bus boy was clearing our table and spilled lobster butter down by girlfriend’s back. Thankfully, by that point it was no longer hot, but the bus boy either knew he made a mistake without acknowledging it or else had no idea he did it. In any event, we informed our waiter, who in turn informed the manager. Our waiter brought us club soda and hot towels. The manager was very apologetic, offered to pay for dry cleaning services, and ended up taking a discount off our bill. Accidents happen, but awareness of surroundings is key, especially when working in places like The Palm where the dining room is tight and the prices are high. By this point, you’re probably wondering why I’ve given this place 4 stars. Well, I applaud the way our waiter and the manager handled what ended up being two minor gaffes. A lot of steak restaurants don’t follow up to make sure your meat is cooked the way it was ordered. Most steak restaurants certainly don’t offer to replace your meal by proactively noticing your meat is over or undercooked without first hearing the customer complain. I’ve also never been in a situation where a spill happened and anything beyond dry cleaning was offered. That alone is why this place deserves 4 stars. Beyond the two hiccups, I wasn’t crazy about the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer. The scallops were a little dry and the bacon a little overcooked. I also wasn’t too thrilled by the wine selection. The cheapest bottle was about $ 50, but I had a hard time believing they sold Kendall Jackson. I’m pretty sure you can get that at 7 Eleven in some states. Overall, the 24 oz. bone-in prime rib was incredible. I ordered it rare and it came out perfectly. Kudos to The Palm for not only providing quality food, but also for showing they value customer service. Staying classy, since 1926 …
