$ 275 for three months for 2 adults? Not too shabby.
I had a day pass to bodhi but halfway there I decided to checkout ymca since it was on the way. So glad I did. The promotion is just for the summer and practically paying like 45 bucks a month to use the gym, courts, pool, fitness classes, etc.
The reps were really nice. Jennae signed us up for the membership and during the sign up process she got chewed out by this dumb Asian girl that freaked out about only having one badminton court. Get over yourself, it’s a ymca, not some fancy Schmancy fitness center. Anyways, Jennae remained calm and very professional. Once we signed up, another rep Juan gave us a tour. (Had that Asian girl requested a tour before signing up, she would know there’s only one court)
Needless to say, this is a very good deal for a gym so close. It’s not the cleanest gym around but it gets the job done. I live two blocks away and can shower at home.

Would not let me in at 7:20 because they close at 8. I wish I had taken a picture of the people behind the counter. An older short hispanic woman who, I believe, cleans the woman’s locker room said «it’s closed my friend. Come back tomorrow morning» while the kid who hands out the towels looked at me and slowly pulled the towel back. Furious right now.

Made a reservation a couples weeks back. When I came in there was a grunge tattooed overweight girl with piercings, blasting rap music with many explicative lyrics in front of everyone, including my child! On top of this I’m sure she was high, considering her eyes were red, and the whole lobby reeked of marijuana! When I went to speak with her she ignored me and walked out. A min later a nice old man sat in the front but he said he couldn’t check me in because he was a porter but she would be back from break in 10 min later. After an hour!!!, The girl comes back, and not to my surprise she couldn’t find my reservation, and then charged me $ 120 for a small single bed that did not fit my child and I. On top of this they don’t take credit card (what year is it?) and when I came back down 5 min later to ask for a room that fits two people she said, no, and there are no refunds. A company is only as good as its employees!

Terrible experience here. Rude staff and very dirty. Will not be going back and would not recommend especially for the price.

Flushing YMCA fue mi primer experiencia quedándome en un lugar así, básicamente una habitación, y no un cuarto de hotel con baño y ducha. No sabría compararlo con otros lugares semejantes, así que solamente es mi impresión.
Apesta que haya una escalinata en la entrada, porque hay que subirlas con las maletas y no hay nadie que ofrezca un servicio de ayuda. Ni siquiera los que van al YMCA por el gimnasio, no saben del workout que se pierden.
El ambiente es raro. Es una mezcla de centro comunal para la enorme cantidad de chinos y coreanos del área, un poco tenebroso con los habitantes de las habitaciones de hombres, un poco irritante con los otros turistas. No sé, no volvería, no es lo mío.
Cerrados con llave (se le da una copia a los que se quedan) se encuentran los baños de hombre y los de mujeres en cada piso. Dentro del baño, hay dos stalls con retrete, tres o cuatro lavamanos, y tres duchas. Una de las duchas no tiene agua caliente. Horror. Tampoco colabora que los que se quedan tiran al piso sus sobras de jabones, con envoltorio y todo, o que hablan sobre uno asumiendo que no entendés el idioma. Gracias por hacer sentir a un extraño para el orto solamente porque es gratis.
El staff es buena onda, pero todo hasta ahí. Quizás así son todos los hosteles, pero la verdad es que prefiero gastar más y quedarme en otro lugar.

This Y is amazing! Has the best staff and the facility is great! Best cardio and weight machines on the market and 2 swimming pools! Great place for families and to work out.

This review is for the hotel only. I stayed here for a few nights, and it was pretty much as expected. I just wanted a safe, clean, and cheap place. The ymca here met all the criteria. I was afraid I would have a dirty, messy place in an unsafe neighborhood, but it ended up being ok. If you’re looking for a no frills place that you just need to sleep and shower (and traveling solo), I’d recommend this place

OK for a neighbor gym.
If you have to travel more than 15 min to get here, I would consider another Gym.
1. Most of the members are over 70 yrs old, it looks like a Asian senior old age home.
2. Most of the members sit bare ass in the sauna and steam room. The best of the steam-​room experience is when you see guys shaving and bushing their teeth in the steam-​room. Look at the stool before you sit.
3. Small stools are use for the locker room and steam room.
4. Some members use the bicycles for over 1 hour, peddling like 2 mile hour and reading a book.
5. The locker room after 4pm, is filthy,
6. The steam-​room and sauna, after 8pm is gross.
Why do I go? I live across the street.

$ 59/​mth & $ 100 initiation fee & not worth the price. Dark, dreary, hot, crowded, low a/​c at least in the cardio room. Plenty of cardio equipment although most of the treadmills are uneven and shake when you run on them. The recumbent bikes are taken over by seniors using them as benches, reading their newspapers while making token gestures of moving the pedals. I would complain if it weren’t for the fact that most of them are broken. Other than the treadmills and the bikes, the other cardio machines are in good condition and as crowded as it gets, you don’t really have to wait for an extended period of time to use a machine.
On the other hand, women’s locker rooms are ridiculously over crowded with halmonis running amok. (Did I mention tons of seniors are here & most use the locker rooms as their own personal private bathrooms with no regard for anyone else). Some of them are sweet. But some of them are annoying, rude (they don’t wait until you’re done with the cardio machine but rather just shove past you and hop on) and some act like they own the place and have special privileges just because they’re old. There’s also this one male trainer that gives me the major creeps. I once made the mistake of giving him a friendly smile and ever since he’s been semi stalking me. I figured out his schedule and go only when he’s not around.
I’m going to cancel soon because I only go primarily to use the treadmill and am looking at Bodhi Fitness to join because they’re cheaper and the clientele is younger and serious about working out.

I used to be a member over 10 years ago. Why am I writing a review? Because the conditions were crowded and unsanitary then, and despite my complaints to management and the front desk, they couldn’t care less. I love to swim and this Y has a nice large pool which was heated to 80-​something degrees. However, there were 3 – 8 people to a lane. It was hard to swim under such conditions. Half the people in the lanes just hung out and talked, preventing me from touching the end, making a flip turn. But what made me cringe was seeing men spitting in the pool. They did it under the lifeguards’ noses. There’s spitting everywhere in this Y. In the women’s locker room I hear women in shower stalls spitting loudly. Some stay for hours to not only spit, but cut and dye their hair.
I could never use the sauna. It’s small but the same middle-​aged women stay in there for hours, basting themselves with baby oil and milk. There was a sign in many languages not to use oil or milk in the sauna or steam room and to limit the time to use of the showers and sauna, but it was not heeded or enforced. I complained about the spitting problem to the management office and they said they’ll get to it. In a couple of weeks, there were signs in English, Spanish and Korean in the women’s locker room telling people not to spit in the showers because it spreads disease. I inquired at the main office why there was no sign in Chinese. They said they can’t find anyone to write the sign in that language. I thought I was going to laugh. Did they think I was born yesterday? It’s Downtown Flushing! They can get any pedestrian outside the building and write it out for them. I continued to use the weightroom for a few weeks longer but I noticed no addition to the no spitting sign in Chinese. Disgusted and annoyed at the lack of concern for members and membership fee increase, I withdrew my membership.
Later that year I was sent a survey to fill out from the Y management of Florida, asking for feedback. I wrote about the issue of spitting that went unaddressed. Hopefully, they took care of it and reprimanded the Flushing management.

I finally decided to get a membership card here after comparing with some other gyms. The biggest reason is that they provide with a lot of group classes that I can follow as a beginner. I am skinny and in a good shape, but I have been lazy for too long and I want to get some muscle now lol They also have a swimming pool, and places for kids and families to do exercises. The other good gym I would recommend is Bodhi, where I have visited and tried once as a guest. It looks bigger than YMCA, and there are more young and strong guys with big muscle working out, so that you will feel excited but also stressful haha. I would suggest it for those advanced trainer since Bodhi is newer and a little bit cheaper than YMCA. But now YMCA has a summer program which is three months for 200, so I joined in this just today.

This review is specifically for their fitness facilities and staff. Have been attending the Flushing Y since ²⁰¹²⁄₂₀₁₃. From the moment you swipe your membership card, you are greeted by friendly staff. Rebecca, Natalie, and Erica just to name a few. Cardio room is awesome– machines include treadmills, bikes, stair master, back rower, arm rotator, and more. Their weight room is perfect– with all the machines you could think of to work every muscle group. Then there are those wonderful fitness teachers like James, Joseph, Ana, Angela, Helena, Eddie, and Nora. They offer Boot Camp, Cross Fit, Yoga & Meditation, Body Circuit Training, Mat Pilates, Core training, kickboxing, Zumba and more! The Y supports kids’ fitness & well-​being and serves our community. Membership fee is on the higher end, but well worth it!

The steam room in the men’s locker room is out of order half the time I come in. What am I paying such a high price for? This would never fly in Manhattan!

I can’t say enough good things about the YMCA. I love the classes and the staff. The classes are diverse ranging from
insanity to yoga and the instructors are consistent they do not change! When I go to the y I end up staying for four or five hours rather then just a class because it’s place where you find a sense of community!

YMCA has always been known to offer a wide variety of things, and it was the same for this place too. But I really need to point out and say this place really really needs to get some serious renovation. From the inside-​out it is just so old it’s not a comfortable place to do anything here. I mean I’m saying this because if you’re paying close to $ 90 per month there are literally a lot of other places with similar features but are much much more cleaner. But even though after all the things I just said, I still want to point out that the staff in this place is generally pretty nice. One lady in particular, I’m not sure about the name I think it’s Lizette, she’s a manager here that works behind the membership desk. She is really professional and often goes out of her way to help the people here that’s trying to inquire about the services.

Flushing YMCA is just your typical gym. It’s not the cheapest per say, but because they do offer family plans and corporate discounts for certain employers, I managed to pay only $ 38/​mo. That’s still not cheap, but since it’s really near where I live, I choose to go here.
The layout of the gym can be quite confusing at first and you might also get hit by a basketball by accident when switching from the cardio room to the weight room and vice versa. There are sufficient treadmills, ellipticals, along with other machines in the cardio room. However, the weight room only has one or two of each weight machine at max. It gets quite packed, and you’ll find yourself fighting for a machine or having to share it during your workout. The gym is kept fairly clean.
The Y offers different classes throughout the day and sometimes there are events as well.

I am new to this so will see how things rate later on. It’s definitely bigger than it looks from outside. I’ve only used the large pool but have been taken on a tour. This place is a maze. Not kidding. Thankfully front desk staff and the rest of staff seem nice and have been helpful while I tries to navigate the place. They have locker rooms for men women boys and girls. Under 18 not allowed in adult locker room.
What I found cool they have a machine that retracts water from your bathing suit. So while not completely drying it you aren’t carrying a soaking wet suit around. The locker rooms have a steam and sauna room though seemed crowded from what I’ve seen.
When you sign up they tell you dont just walk around naked have consideration for others and how they may feel but that doesnt happen. Majority are walking around naked and sit and fo makeup and lotion and just take their time. Even in the sauna most dont wear bra or undies or suit just naked.
Back to the pool its great its divided into sections an area where you can swim however and ones with lanes. They have slow moderate and fast lanes.
The membership is 60 a month for adult you can use excercise equipment, pools, there are tons of free classes from yoga to tai chi to Zumba and more.
Basketball court, squash court, ping pong room and other things im sure im forgetting.
Is it the best place thats 5 stars that makes you feel lile a celebrity. NO. Its 60 a month not 600. So for 60 bucks that is quite a variety to have.

This is very good place for work out. There are a lot of facilities can use like work out machines and place for playing basketball and swimming pools. Only thing that I don’t like is little bit crowd there. So uhm I give it three.

Front desk are very friendly. Pool gets too crowded in the summer. Cardio and gym equipment — make sure to wipe them with paper towel and the solution they have before using

I used to go to the Y back in high school and it’s funny how it hasn’t changed too drastically in 15 years. They have replaced the weight machines but the layout is almost exactly the same.
I always find it amusing going to the Flushing Y because of the elderly asian crowd but that’s why I love it. Not for me but for what this place offers for young ppl and senior citizens.
For the 20s/30’s crowd — you’re better off joining one of the chain gyms like NYSC if you’re looking for classes and want a better environment. There are a good number of cardio machines that are in great condition but the classes — not so much. I went to a Friday morning spin class and it wasn’t my cup of tea but what I really appreciated about it was that it was tailored for the older crowd. All of the participants knew each other and it gets them active. I came home and asked my mom if she wanted to join the Y! Yes, there are very Korean/​Chinese ppl and may scare you in the locker rooms but hey they gotta work out too right?
I come back here now and again because it is within walking distance and lets me walk down memory lane.

This YMCA is located on Northern Blvd by the police precinct.
I like how it has so much to offer. There are two pools, a large and a small one. They have a weight room, a cardio room (with plenty of treadmills), basketball courts, sauna room, steam room, etc. There are also separate locker rooms for younger girls and women, which helps eliminate crowds.
I did notice a lot of older people using the gym, but who cares. I’m not going there to check out the people.
