The Art of Shaving

This place is overpriced. I saw a Merkur safety razor here for $ 60 that I got at Pasteur Pharmacy on 34^th street for $ 37 (identical model). Do the math, that is an insane markup. I’m willing to pay extra for high quality, but not for the same exact product!
Their Art of Shaving branded items are expensive too, although they do appear to be high quality.
Go to Pasteur Pharmacy for all of your wet shaving needs. They have a great selection and normal prices. I guess the atmosphere isn’t as fancy as Art of Shaving, but how much time do you want to spend shopping for shaving products?

They have some very generous discounts that you can get if you sign up for the Brotherhood of Shaving. A big jar of shaving cream is $ 25. The last time I was there i had a 30% discount and stocked up.

Great product, but always a painful experience shopping here… I buy the same thing every time and every time it is a battle to get out of there without turning down multiple sales pitches.
I feel awful for the staff, who must be under intense pressure to sell you up. Either that or it’s a cult.

I’m generally a fan of the Art of Shaving, but this store is a mess.
I came in to grab some pre-​shave oil, as I love the product and I was out. I picked up the product and went to cash wrap. It took a few minutes for someone to come help me. The sales rep looked at what I was buying and asked if I also needed aftershave balm.
After I said no, she went to help other guests not in line, rather than ring me up! I had to wait another five minutes for her to come back, try to sell me something else, and finally ring me up. Maybe I’m off base here, but that’s patently absurd.

The branding is overwrought, and the pricing is questionable, even if the products are solid.

I liked the store, even if it was a bit pricier than what you can get elsewhere. Great customer service. I had an especially great interaction with a gentleman named Tom who was incredibly patient and guided me in the right direction. I wish more sales people had his character. Will definitely be coming back as a result!

This is the Brunelleschi of shaving products! Pretty pricey yes, but its a very close, clean shave and my skin is left smooth, soft and smelling great. Sandal wood is a very nice fragrance by the way and I receive many compliments as well as my dog attempting to consume my face.
The Columbus circle location is just a little store with no services. The staff were very friendly, informative and helpful and not pushy at all. The most economical thing to do is just to buy a starter kit. The only thing I don’t like is that the badger hair brush does not retain heat like I was told and I always have a cold lather.
As far as these products go though, they are great and do last a long time. I feel like a good shave is like a good cigar. You don’t rush a smoke, and its all about the experience. If you want a good high quality experience, then go with this place and take your time practicing «the art of shaving». If you just want a quick practical shave and don’t mind your face getting thrashed and have no idea what «experience» I am talking about, then don’t waste your money.

I never undertand these stores. some only sell products. less than half of all the stores in manhattan actually have services, and if you want a service you have to have a apt only on certain days/​hours because they do not fully employ barbers, only hairstylists. I went to this location wanting services, they didnt have any, sent me to the the store on the upper west side (it was pouring rain) got there all excited to get my head shaved, no barber. I was so unhappy. Went out of my way for nothing. He asked me (do you have a apt) I was like no, then he says «the barber isnt in today» then what was the point in asking me if I had a apt? A BARBER SHOP WITHOUT A BARBER! priceless

Nice store, beautiful and overpriced products. The service is very lackluster, though. The manager actually shrugged when I asked him something. Hey bud, that doesn’t win customers at these prices.

It may be a tad pricey for a shaving kit but the products are one in a million. I bought the started kit for my boyfriend and he swears by the stuff. They came out with a women’s line and it’s great! It was $ 50 for shaving cream but it lasted about a year! If you have sensitive skin try their products out.

The Man’s Man store! The first time I purchased the badger hair brush and used it, I felt like a real grown-​up! I love everything in this store, especially the quality of service and the knowledge that the associates have. With their products (which truly do sell themselves), I ALWAYS shave with the brush now. Excellent store/​company. Btw, I’ve converted about 10 male friends of mine who are now avid users of this company’s products.

Last year, I found myself back in my original home of NYC for my birthday, and was ready for a big night. A nice, close shave was in order! When I went to a smaller location of the Art of Shaving further uptown, I found out they didn’t even do shaves in that store, and that the other location that did do shaves was all booked, and had zero availability. I was bummed! My luck was about to change for the better, as I called the Columbus Circle Art of Shaving location. They had one chair, and it was only available for shaves on rare special occasions for promotional purposes, for demonstration purposes. That day I called happened to be one of those occasions. They were able to squeeze me in if I hurried over, and the best part was the shave was free since it was a promotion. I made sure of course to tip the girl real well. But in the end, a happy birthday and great shave indeed! In terms of all their products they sell, I cannot speak to them, as I use a traditional razor and gillette shave cream at home. I always love a good hot towel shave though!

If you are interested in purchasing high quality shaving items for men at 3x their normal cost, then this is absolutely the place for you. If you don’t like being swindled, however, then you should stay away from the Art of Shaving.
My husband and I stopped in here to pick up some replacement Merkur blades for his razor. These normally cost about $ 5 for a pack of 10. Art of Shaving wanted to charge us $ 13!
I’m not saying the items they carry aren’t nice/​good quality, simply that they are a HUGE rip-​off.
