Rude, Rude, So Rude!!!
Called Seaman’s to find out the charge to go from Henry Hudson Parkway to New Rochelle. The dispatcher said call back when your ready and hung up the telephone. I didn’t even finish my sentence.

I have used Seaman for over a decade, in the days before Über. To their credit, they will get to your location quickly and can be cheaper than other local services, but their customer service is abysmal. Today I called to get an estimate from point A to point B. I said «I’m at x address and…». Before I could finish my sentence the dispatcher abruptly placed me on hold without a word, presumably to see if anyone was available. He came back on and said «3 minutes.» I said, «Excuse me, but you interrupted me and didn’t allow me to finish my sentence, I wasn’t requesting a taxi at this time.» Instead of apologizing and allowing me to finish he said, «Keep talking sweetie, keep talking. Do you want to keep talking or do you want a taxi?» That is an utterly unacceptable, sexist way to speak to customers, and I refuse to give them any of my business in the future. Do yourself a favor and deal with a civilized service or Über/​Lyft instead of this garbage company.

I suffered a broken ankle recently and have relied on Seaman drivers for the last month, to get back and forth to doctor appointments (in a wheelchair) and also to work in Manhattan. I have nothing but praise for this very excellent company! I’ve had to wait less than 10 minutes to be picked up, without fail. All the drivers are courteous, patient, and helpful, and the cars are new and comfortable. The fares are much better than a NYC taxi and they offer a great service for customers in upper Manhattan. Just ignore any complaints on Unilocal,this is a reliable and superior company. Thank you, Seaman.

Two kind of people use cabs, those who do not want to walk and those who are in a hurry, I belong to the second category. If you are in a hurry call someone else.
To make it worse the customer service is bad. It is as if their customer base is so big that they don’t care if they lose a client. The general attitude is that of a stereotypical Latino, rude and ineffective and before somebody feels offended I am latino too. It is very shameful that our racial group is know for attitudes such as their customer service reps’
As for me, I am not using them anymore.

Requested a car from a hospital visit to my kid’s school. 5 minutes I was told. 15 minutes later, I’m frantic and no way I can be on time to get my kid. Almost every time I use these guys I say never again. This time I mean it… NEVER AGAIN!

As a woman coming home past midnight on the metro north, I was relying on them to meet me at the station. I would call two stops away from the station, but three times they weren’t there, leaving me standing in a shitty neighborhood. Once in the daytime, I thought I’d call them to get me to the station so that I could catch my train. They show up late, I miss my train, and get to work late. When you call you’re put on hold for minutes, and they over charge. I caught a yellow cab once to take me the same distance that Seaman had been taking me, and the yellow cab was two dollars cheaper! DO NOT USE SEAMAN RADIO DISPATCHER unless you want to unreliability and to be overcharged.

I’ve used Seamans for a decade to ride from Riverdale to Manhattan or within the Bronx. Drivers always polite and dispatcher sends them within three to four minutes. They are a local neighborhood black car service. The cars are older and the ride is cheaper than a taxi or a Manhattan based limo service.

When you ask a cab driver for the fare amount and he says «just give me whatever.»
I insisted that «whatever» was not a fare amount. Told the driver he needed to tell me what the amount was. He then said, «between 8 and 10 dollars, just give me whatever.»
I don’t understand how that is a way of charging for services.
I told him that he should take $ 8 from the $ 20 I gave him. He was rude and angry. I called the Seaman dispatch office and the operator was rude as well. He seemed annoyed I was bringing up the subject and was bothered I even called.

Reserved a car for 7 PM. Driver called at 6:45 — 15 minutes early. Nice. Excellent ride to the airport, reasonable price. Will definitely use them again.

I can be on the other side of the world and they’ll send a cab to pick me up and take me to my destination. THANK YOU!!!

Oh Seaman, how you’ve disappointed me.
I cannot imagine that you can run a cab company in the NYC where a person calls up, is put on hold for 10 minutes — twice — and then is told that there are no cars.
I have used Seaman for years and they come and get me very promptly with the «three minute three» — but in the last several weeks, I’ve had to call my job twice to tell them I was coming in late because the cab never came. I’ve called twice for cabs in the afternoon and was told that there were no cars available.
I’m no detective, but this is new. I don’t know what’s going on over there, but when they force me to press the buttons to call another cab company, and that company comes right away with a supernice driver, I can’t stop my fingers from pressing those buttons again. If you know what I mean.

The operator to Seaman Cab that answers the phone is very rude, and he has no patience or good English speaking skills! He left me on hold so long this morning, I went outside to see if by chance a cab did come, it never did, I hung up from being on hold and called back, the same man answered, again I was left on hold… finally I just got a cab from the corner… but thanks to Seaman leaving me on hold and me wondering if there on the way or what was going on, i was very late going to where had to go…

This cab service is a mixed bag. For trips from Riverdale, it’s fast — I have never waited more than 5 minutes. If you’re thinking of having them pick you up from the airport, however, don’t — they can’t manage it. We waited half an hour despite reserving online days in advance, calling from our departure city to update them on flight status, and calling when we landed. Apparently the guy couldn’t find the terminal. Eventually we gave up and got into a cab waiting at the airport, and when we complained, the dispatcher was rude and tried to suggest that we ought to pay for his cab, which had never showed. Customer service is not their forte, or even a concept with which they show rudimentary familiarity. Spouse adds: they speak unintelligibly, and dispatcher is rude, though most of the drivers are polite. No credit card readers.

It’s a love/​hate relationship… For the most part when they say two minutes it is two minutes for when it’s not it’s a problem to call back and get a nasty attitude from the dispatchers and they put you on hold forever so annoying!

Have used this car service for a million years, mostly for trips originating from the Bronx. I don’t think I’ve ever waited more than 5 – 10 minutes for a clean car and a good driver to show up. Pricing is a bit on the ad hoc side so ask/​negotiate the price up front, but I’ve never had a driver ask for anything excessive or try to rip me off. Usually 40 bucks will get you to midtown. The drivers know the city and they understand you. They open doors and load luggage. It’s interesting that you have Unilocalers ripping this service for one bad experience, and my family and I have been using them for years, many many rides, and I have no idea what they are talking about… Smells funny, if you know what I mean…

If you can get past the most rude dispatcher on the planet without it ruining your day, then I suppose you can use these guys… I prefer not to deal with the classless person who picks up the phone and basically yells at you for your address and then talks to you like YOU owe HIM something… I HIGHLY encourage any other cab service, in fact I would rather WALK!

Horrendous. Occasionally, I need a lift so I call Seaman, they are on time the majority of the time although the experience is dreadful every time. First, the operator hangs up on you if you hesitate talking for a second which is terrible. The operator is a rude man who hangs up constantly. Secondly, the car experience itself is also pretty horrendous. The majority of their drivers are either, shouting on their phones, driving very aggressively (almost all of them drive crazily/​aggressively.

— Shout on their phones
— Drive aggressively which makes you nauseated
— Operator is rude
I really do not recommend them at all. Find another alternative.
They really need to hire a new dispatcher that isn’t rude, doesn’t hang up, and communicates well with clients.

Again I wish I could give this car service no stars! This morning in front of my building (on a 1 way street) a small school bus was waiting for a child. A cab driver from Seaman, cab # AD602, stopped behind the bus and began honking his horn. Since the bus driver did not move for him, he proceeded to get out of his cab, walk up to the driver of said school bus and began yelling and threatening her. This is a school bus full of special needs children!!! Really!!! The children were visibly upset. The mother of the child boarding the school bus also had words with the driver and called 911. They were no help of course. Listen up people: DO NOT USE THE CAR SERVICE!!! If you are in the Kingsbridge/(212) 862‑1399 Upper Manhattan/​Riverdale sections in NY, use Bailey Car Service or High Class. At least THEY respect the laws!!!

Speedy but sketchy with the price.
It was my first time using this car service based on someone’s recommendation that their cars arrive pretty quickly. When I called them up, the dispatcher was pretty rushed and hung up on me after he took down the address. I had to call back a second time to ask what the price was, but he told me to ask the driver and then hung up on me again.
When we got in the car and asked the driver for the price, the driver said he had to ask the dispatch center. Since we were taking my dad home from the hospital and we couldn’t stay parked in front of the hospital, we got in the car. The driver asked us how much we usually paid and we told him the price we paid with another car service. The dispatch center kept ignoring our driver’s request for a price quote and eventually told him to call them on his phone rather than on the two-​way radio. After speaking in Spanish for a bit with the dispatch center, our driver told us our price, which was almost double the price we’ve paid with another car service. At that point, we were on the highway so we didn’t really have a choice to leave and our dad was sick so we just agreed to the price.
I would not recommend taking this car service unless you can get a price quote beforehand, but it seems that can be rather difficult.
I give them two stars for the speed (arrived after 10 minutes) and the fact that the car was clean.
