History

Established in 2009.

After finding ourselves unemployed in 2009 after the recession, company founders Sheik and David decided to take their situation into an opportunity for success. Both having bachelors in business-​related fields and many years in the customer service industry, the due decided to start S&D Moving Co. S&D are the initials of the owners, Sheik and David. S&D Moving started with rented vans, and now the company owns several. S&D Moving Co always wants to keep a professional look through the process so every employee wears a uniform with the company logo emblazoned on the front. It also has developed a few systems to keep customer communication extremely streamline. S&D Moving is inviting you to «Change The Way You Move».

David A and Sheik H.

Business Owner

David is currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Economics from CUNY Brooklyn College. He has a B.S. in Business Administration from the SUNY Geneseo. He is the co-​owner of S&D Moving Co. He is born and raised in NYC and currently resides in Bed-​Stuy, Brooklyn. He has received intensive training and a certificate in small business development from Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO). When he’s not assisting customers in their new beginnings, he coaches local youth football in the Brooklyn Area and spending time with family.

Sheik has a Bachelors in Management Information Systems from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He is the other half of S&D Moving Co. He was born and raised in Manhattan and currently resides in the Bronx. He also has received intensive training and a certificate in small business development from Workshop in Business Opportunities (WIBO).In Sheik’s off time, he loves to watch movies and spend time with his family.

Guillermo, Karlo, and Yonathan were AMAZING. They moved me from one FOURTH floor walkup to another FOURTH floor walking in 5 hrs. They did it with smiles, good humor and incredible professionalism. I am so impressed by this company– they were responsive before, during and even after the move.
I’m def not the easiest customer to please, and this is one of the best service experiences I’ve had in a while. They say moving is stress? Not if you do it w S&D.

My move with S&D was great. They were very nice, efficient and helpful throughout the entire move. They moved me out of my 2 bedroom in 2 hours and got me moved into my new place in record time even though it was on the 9th floor and the freight elevator is very small. They were very helpful placing items where I needed them.
We had a little hick up with a scratch that was made on the floor in the apartment I moved out of, but the mover who made the scratch took immediately responsibility and I took pictures and sent them to Sheik. Sheik response was: I always want to do right by my clients.
After everything got resolved with the owners of the apartment and the floors got fixed, I sent him the invoice for the repair and had a check in the mail the very same week to reimburse me.
I would hire them again for my next move.

I have used these guys twice, and they are AMAZING! I have moved from Westchester to the City and back, and both moves were as easy as I could have ever imagined thanks to S&D. I had two different guys each time, all four of whom were outstanding. They showed up early, they were careful will all of my stuff (including a lot of glass/​mirrored furniture), they were really nice, and they were very efficient. Moving is such a hassle, but thanks to S&D it felt like a breeze. There were about 30 miles between my two stops, and the guys got to the second stop in the same time I did in the car. It really makes all of the difference when you don’t have to wait around for your stuff to arrive, and when you know everything is in good hands. I have recommended them to all of my friends and will continue to do so. They even do cross state moves now! I highly recommend S&D Moving, they do not disappoint!

S&D exceeded my expectations on all fronts — they called when they said they would, were quick to respond, arrived early, were professional, took great care of my things and very efficient with their time.
Kumar, Carlos and Ines moved me from NYC to the Washington, DC area and I couldn’t have asked for a better crew. I would recommend them (and S&D) to anyone, and in fact I already have!

This is not the sort of company you want handling your stuff!
They broke my mac laptop while moving my former roommates stuff out and have refused to take any responsibility!!! I’ve filed a legal claim with the City of New York and with the Better Business Bureau. I talked to the owner and he was nothing less than rude, odious, and unapologetic!
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!

S&D Moving saved us! I needed a reliable moving company last minute to move some trade show items from Staten Island to the Upper West Side. I needed mover that night — a mere 5 hours from when I was calling around. I called about 15 moving companies — no luck! I called S&D Moving and when David answered the phone, I knew it would be ok. He was calm, professional, and accommodating. He sent us a crew of 3 guys and they were the best. They were kind, respectful, and hilarious. Most importantly, S&D got the job done when nobody else could. I will use them whenever I need a mover in NYC!

Second time having S&D as my movers and experience is stellar. First of all they were on time. They called a half an hour before to give a heads up on the arrival time (much appreciated when all you are doing during a move is sit around boxes). They were extremely professional and courteous throughout the move and very respectful of all the items they were transporting. First and foremost, let me say moving in New York is the worst ever (maybe after apartment hunting) and not being from the city, finding movers can be just as difficult.
My movers, Carlos and Anthony, were AMAZING! I live in a 5 flight walk up (Thank God I moved) and they were able to move all my belongings into their truck in an hour. Everything was properly wrapped and handled with great care. They never complained and made this move the easiest I have ever experienced
I know for a fact if I have to move (I hope I don’t) again, I will definitely use S & D again. I wonder if it’s possible to request your same movers? Because I’d do that too!

S&D Moving made what could have been a haphazard, complicated and frustrating move simple, seamless and better than I could have ever expected. Why, you ask?
1) Movers showed up 10 minutes early to assess the items to be moved, and they very kindly offered to help my finish wrapping up some items.
2) They were in and out of my first apartment in 30 minutes and were thorough and helpful when explaining the process.
3) When they hit unexpected traffic en route to my second apartment, they called and kept me updated all of the way.
4) They swiftly transported all of my belongings up four flights of stairs, helped set up bedroom items they had taken apart, and kept everything in perfect condition.
5) All around they were great guys, super friendly and helpful, and made me feel at ease the entire time.
I would (and will) without a doubt recommend S&D Moving to everyone!

These guys are thieves. They stole my coin jar, and threw out my broken lamps without telling me.
update August 9, 2015:
I just realized that S and D has left me a comment. I find it disappointing that despite my negative experience with them, they have not apologized in any way or form. They state that the missing of my items is excusable because I did not include them (lamp, coin jar, humidifier) in my list when I ordered their services. At no time did they mention that this was to be a comprehensive list. Even if it was, its not excusable for them to dispose of my property the way they did.
None of this would have been an issue if these people were nice and courteous, but I just thought their general attitude and work ethic was poor. Overall, my experience with them was bad, and it is the reason why i write this negative review.

I am not a robot, or a fake reviewer. I did a ton of homework on movers for my upcoming out of state move, and ultimately chose S & D for the move based on other reviews and pricing. I spoke with at least ten companies, and had 5 do in home estimates.
S & D was a pleasure to work with. Responsive, truthful, and timely.
They called an hour before they arrived… showed up in the first 15 minutes of their estimated range… and got right to work. Friendly and very professional. The moved my entire 1 bedroom apartment down 5 flights of stairs in two hours. No hidden fees, no nonsense.
We were very impressed and would highly recommend you consider using S & D. I’d be happy to endorse or refer them to anyone in NYC.

I had 3 movers and they were absolutely amazing. They were extremely fast and efficient especially considering they moved me from a fifth floor walk up on a very hot day. I would recommend these guys 100x over.
Just a btw, read the agreement. I did not. I agreed to a minimum of 3 hours but the move only took a little over 2 hours so I had to pay for the full 3 hours.

I found S&D through Unpakt. Their Unilocal reviews and their Unpakt reviews were excellent. Great customer service and very quick to provide insurance requirements to my management company.
On the day of my move Carlos and Allan were great! They were both so nice and careful with my belongings. I would definitely use S&D again and I will highly recommend them to anyone who is moving.

Yonathan and Carlos were AMAZING. I couldn’t have asked for better guys! Everything was easy, from the first email to the actual moving day.
The entire move took about 2.5 hours — with my new apartment being a third floor walkup. I attempted to help, but these guys have their routine down pat so I just stood out of the way. All my furniture, personal belongings and boxes were handled with care and everything arrived in one piece. Highly, highly recommended!
Random cool, side note: I expected them to have to write down my credit card number or call the office for final payment, but they have Square!

Read the reply from the Sheik. It’s been some time, so no worries about getting the facts wrong. I moved 3/​31, complained about the missing box 4⁄5 (after unpacking), heard back from you by email on 4⁄6. You were indeed two hours late not 1.5 hours.
(Unfortunately for me) I’ve moved about 15 times in the last 15 years. So I feel like I have a pretty good sense for how these things should go. And for me, this was a very disappointing experience. Maybe I’m unreasonable, lying, etc … I’ll leave that for the readers of Unilocal to decide.
