Michael was terrific to work with! He was easy to communicate with, prompt, and fixed the broken base of my couch quickly and efficiently. I’m happy to know him and his work now, have referred him to my friends, and will definitely call again. Thank you Michael! :)

Today (5÷3÷16), received an uncomfortable text from Porter Stable. Here’s the thing I have a right to my assessment and opinion. Porter Stable does not have to like it, but then just take it in stride. There is never a need to send an uncomfortable text because you do not agree with the review. This further supports the sentiments in my original review; otherwise, why send me that uncomfortable text Porter Stable? Never mind about my husband is returning from Afghanistan because his service was for all of us, including you! Please cease and desist from sending me any more texts Porter Stable.

After reading all of the great reviews, felt confident trying to do business with Porter Stable. Felt confident that Porter Stable would be just the right one for my small project. You see wanted to do some improvements for my husband coming home from Afghanistan. Porter Stable was quick with his response. Michael was very courteous. However, the cold response because of my BRONX location left me feeling the «Juliani» elitist-​county bias! You know what I mean: «The City» = Manhattan Only! Even though the Big Apple = The Bronx (only county on the mainland of our U.S.A.), Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island! Gotham = 5 boroughs! I was left feeling that if I lived in Manhattan my project would have been meritorious of Porter Stable’s time. My project was TOO SMALL and not in a desirable COUNTY of Gotham City! Hmmm… Nothing is happenstance.

Amazing service. Emailed Michael one weekend, and by the following week, he had gotten the job done. I had needed a door installed in my living room. The job was a bit more complex, but both Mike and his guys were punctual, and did an amazing job. I’ll definitely be calling you guys when I need more handy work done.

Our new apartment needed a top to bottom patch, repair and paint job. Ceilings, walls, a ton of trim work, cabinets, radiators, heating pipes… you name it! As well, the sub-​floors in several closets and cabinet base required carpentry work. Did I mention the four light fixtures that we needed replaced?
We were taken aback and overwhelmed to discover all of this. (It’s amazing how different a place can look once emptied out and exposed!) While there were definitely a few what-​the-​hell-​did-​we-​get-​ourselves-​into tears shed, there was no turning back. The deal had been done.
We had already been in touch with Michael about painting a room or two (ha!). So we thought let’s ask him to meet us at new apartment, let him get a look at the extent of what actually needs to be done and see what he says. Mind you, we had A WEEK before we needed to move into the place with our 1 year old daughter. (!!!)
Well, you guys? It was like Michael walked in, picked up the ball and went to work. A soft spoken guy with a heck of a lot of great advice and know-​how, he and his crew not only completed (and beyond just completed!) all that needed to be done, they did it five days AND for an absolutely fair and reasonable price.
What could have been the worst apartment choice we’ve ever made and furthermore put us in a spot to be completely taken advantage of in order to get the place in shape turned out to be one of the best moves we’ve ever made and one of the loveliest apartments we’ve lived in. Much, much thanks to Michael and his crew.

Michael is excellent! He’s helped us with a few things around our apartment over the years, and knows how to work with different materials and requests. Very friendly and knowledgeable.

Mike did a great job mounting my tv, apple tv and sonos soundbar. he did a super clean set up at a reasonable price with very friendly service. highly recommended!

I don’t normally leave reviews, but MICHAEL was amazing!!! The best handyman in West Village! Extremely professional, yet personable, timely & efficient, knows his craft and is well equipped! He fixed a cabinet for me that had couldn’t open or close because several screws were missing. After the job was done, he even went above and beyond to check all other screws by tightening or replacing them with new ones if needed. Talk about great and superior customer service!!! If I had a 10-​star option, that’s what I’d give Michael! Thank you very much!

I bought a wall-​mounted desk that was sitting in my kitchen for 2 months before I found Michael. I was specifically looking for a knowledgeable, detail-​oriented, hard working professional with great customer service and Michael fits this bill to a tee!
Michael assembled and mounted the desk, barely even needing the confusing instruction book. He works fast but that doesn’t take away from the quality of his work. Very reasonable price, as well!
Michael answered all my home improvement-​ignorant questions and the result is a perfect desk. I was so excited that I HAD to post a photo on facebook and I’ve received tons of compliments on it thanks to Michael!

Michael is absolutely wonderful! I reached out to him for a light fixture difficulty that I was having at the jewelry store I manage and not only did he return my phone call within minutes, he literally showed up and walked into the store as I was texting him the info for everything. I was so surprised and shocked to see how responsive he was. I was beyond relieved that he popped in and I didn’t have to wait days for this little problem to be taken care of. I showed him the situation and within minutes… all done! =)
He’s like a genie in a bottle! I will definitely be using his services again in the future.

Michael is a true professional. Efficient and friendly. Did a fantastic job with the install of the furnishing in my apartment. Was also expertly able to maneuver a fairly difficult television mount. Would absolutely use him again.

Very friendly, professional and skilled service. We estimated a job would take him about an hour, but he finished it thoroughly in less than 15 minutes! Not only that, but then he gave us a discount on his hourly rate because the job was so quick for him. Would definitely recommend!

Michael was extremely responsive from my original request for a quote to install 3 sets of blinds in apartment windows. He arrived early, assessed job, got all required tools/​screws and completed all work within 60 minutes. Very professional and even offered to hang large picture before he took off. Highly recommended.

It’s so refreshing to come across good people when you move to a new city. Michael came to our new apartment to install AC’s and it felt like a family friend came by. He was professional, friendly and most importantly, knowledgable about the work he was doing. He took one look at what needed to be done and began working. Before my friend and I could even get started on breakfast Michael was already half way done. He left us with perfectly installed AC’s and the comfort of knowing they were installed correctly. I’m happy to have found a contact for any household projects that I may need help with.

As a new resident of New York it’s been one hell of a task to get me and my best friends apartment together. We have a basic tool box from Ikea but obviously we can only do so much with it. We contacted Michael to help install 2 AC’s and curtain rods. He got started on the first one and I laid down to take a nap, thinking it would take some time for him to complete. Pshhh before I could even come close to falling asleep Michael came in to let us know he was done. He is extremely quick and not because he’s trying to finish and go, but because he knows what he’s doing. It was such a releif knowing our things were installed by someone like Michael. Seriously, if you need someone to help with house project Michael is your man.

Michael is great! Just needed some scuff marks on the walls painted. Responsive and on time!

I was in contact with Michael and two other contractors, and in the end I chose Porter Stable, and am very glad I did. Michael was the first contractor to email me back out of anyone, got me an estimate, and came to do the job within days of me first emailing him. He even had some spare paint from past jobs that he used to save me $ on materials! He definitely knows what he’s doing, and I felt better knowing that he has carpentry experience under his belt. I feel like he belongs on «This Old House». Rest easy booking Porter Stable and Michael– he knows what he’s doing, and he’s not here to rip you off, which is a rarity in NYC.

Michael was extremely professional and helpful. He worked very diligently for four hours and came up with a few solutions to unorthodox issues I had with mounting stuff. He was able to swap out four light fixtures lickety-​split, and was friendly besides.
He has an eye for detail and was even able to suggest proper spacing between adjacent frames.
My place looks great now, and I owe it all to him!

This review is overdue but better late than never! Michael & his guys are lifesavers… there’s really no other way to slice it.
My husband & I spent a whole year going through a renovation (excruciating!) after we bought our apartment. Hell hath no fury like newlyweds undergoing a NYC renovation. When we finally moved into our place, I was eager to get all of the little odds & ends completed so we could get into a groove & get on with day-​to-​day life. Despite being a DIYer & HGTV enthusiast, my patience had run out. Cue Michael!
Aside from being flexible, professional, & reasonably priced, he is also just a really nice guy. He came to our place quite a few times to assist with odd jobs like hanging my chandelier, putting up the curtain rods, hanging planters, putting together our guest room daybed, wiring our cable to another room etc. etc.
He was reliable, communicative, & kind. If something was not done to my satisfaction, he would happily make the adjustments until I approved.
If you need something done & are at a loss, call Michael! You will not regret it!

I am now based in CA and was selling my NYC apartment (sniff) The new buyer had requested the removal of AC units and so we scheduled removal before closing *just in case* we would need to keep them. Well, of course one of the AC units that had been there since creation would not come out, so the movers had to remove the window sill and quite a bit of paint leaving it looking less than desirable and damaging the window so it wouldn’t shut. This was Sunday and the walk-​through and closing was Monday afternoon — eep!
Luckily, my former tenant referred Michael (and based on his Unilocal reviews I can see why!) I messaged him and even though it was his off day, he messaged back shortly thereafter that he would get over there to try and fix the problem and at a minimum, give me a quote that I could present the buyer with. He also gave me his cell and told me to text him so he could respond faster.
Michael was able to fix the window and give an incredibly reasonable quote for the rest of the work. He also let us know he could come out the next day to fix everything.
I was so impressed and RELIEVED to have Michael respond so quickly and show-​up promptly (for reference: an hour before the walk through!) — especially given the situation. I only wish I had known about him all those years in New York to help me out with other issues around the house. Thanks, Michael!
