Please Pastis, open your new location soon. I can’t stand it anymore. I miss your steak frites, I miss brunch, and I miss that awesome bathroom sink. So many good memories here.

This place to be the best for brunch, lunch and dinner. I feel that food quality has gone down a bit since the early 2000s and now its just hang out spot then the food.

Pastis is very overpriced(especially considering the portion sizes) but it can’t be denied that they do offer some tasty food nonetheless. The atmosphere is also beautiful, reminiscent of a European eatery with it’s wood floors and Bistro-inspired furniture. I got the fennel ravioli, which was delicious, yet small. It came with about six medium sized raviolis. I also got a peach bellini which was also tasty but not cheap. Overall, if you are planning on dining at Pastis when it reopens, I’d be prepared for both an empty wallet and an empty stomach, however it is a nice splurge if that’s what you’re in the mood for.

Everything I’ve had here is amazing. One of my favorite places in New York City. The steak tartar is legit. The steak frites are done perfect. I am no longer a meat eater but I would eat meat again for this place. Service is fine. I made a reservation here for 15 ppl and we ended up not showing. Apparently there’s a huge cancelation fee for doing stuff like that here but I think that’s dumb. Pastis, you’re a restaurant not a doctors office… Cancelation fees for reservations is so New Yorky and obnoxious. Other than that, I love this place. The atmosphere is relaxed but fancy. It’s trendy but not hip(good looking people with jobs like to eat here.) Love the outdoor seating. Wait list moves fast. Big bar is great for waiting for a table.

Ah, Pastis. Land of overpriced, unspectacular brunch, long wait times, and seats that are practically on top of other customers. It’s a landmark of the meatpacking district for god knows what reason, definitively not because of the food or service.

About a week ago, a friend booked a table and where meet with a creative buzz as if it had been in the French capital. The restaurant is full both inside and outside. It is full of people and the atmosphere blew us away. A smooth entrance to end a stressful day. We get a perfectly placed table for two people inside the premises. The waiter had a little attitude, but it works well. His arrogance seems(almost) real French… lol. The waiter takes us through what is today’s fish and meat. We choose to stick to the original menu and start the meal with Martini’s with vodka. Perfect. A wonderful start that gets better. My friend orders the classic onion soup and I Chicken & Foie Gras Mousse. The waiter recommended a dry white wine with the Chicken & Foie Gras Mousse, which I find a bit strange, as more sweetness had worked better. But the taste of the food is exquisite. I am more than happy with the quality of the food. I order the lobster and my friend the steak with béarnaise sauce as a main course. The steak, which I taste, well cooked and béarnaise is magnificent. This sauce I know have been a hell to make for a chef in the back. Just so perfect unexplainable. Another friend ordered the lobster and told me that it was a little too watery. That is what removes the experience from perfect. The butter is good, but I think that a ton of fries is not an optimal choice for me. But yet approved. This pulls down a little, but the steak was good. We enjoy the evening on, and wait staff are incredible professional. They create a welcoming atmosphere and we laugh with them number of times. Our waiters also loosen slightly over time, although he forgets things we ask for. Where did the lobsters come from? Etc. After several hours are the sweets chapter on the menu. I order toffee cake with that the waiter recommends. My firend loves chocolate mousse. Both are lovely, but maybe overload after so much food. I think Pastis is certainly worth a visit. The restaurant delivers on all fronts. Good service, Great food, great atmosphere and lovely drinks. A pleasure. The bill was over 250.00 not including the tip.

OVERRATEDSEXANDTHECITYTOURISTTRAP that offers bland and typical food at skyrocket MEATPACKING prices. If you’re a tourist from the Midwest or Asia and obsessed with Carrie Fuckshaw and her dramatic nonsense and want to pay an arm and leg for two ‘organic’ eggs, this is the place for you! :) Had brunch today with my previous supervisor. We had reservations for 11:30 but we arrived early around 11:10 but we were seated anyways. We got a corner table which I did not like very much as we felt wayy too cramped and squished between tables between our table. Atmosphere wise, yes it’s very French and similar to their sister restaurant Balthazar in SoHo. Service is spotty. Our French waitress was salivating heavily when she was taking our order which is gross. After she took our order and our food came out(delivered by a bus boy), she didn’t even bother to come back check up on us or even ask us how the food is as stuff. Food came out in less than 10 minutes and it was a major disappointment. The ham on the Croquet Madame was very salty and te bread was too tough to cut even with the knife they provided. My Eggs a la Basquaise was a major disappointment. $ 21 for two poached eggs swimming in tomato sauce? Are you kidding me??? It wasn’t even good at all and tastes so bland and something you can make at home for less than $ 5. I heard Pastis is closing at the end of this month since their lease is ending or something. But seriously I think it ain’t the lease but because there are just too many other brunch restaurants around the city which are just soo much better and affordable. Pastis is wayy overrated and overpriced for what it delivers and offers. Clientele seems like Europeans and moneyed individuals who don’t really come here to eat but to show off and to be seen(although it has slowed down a bit since more and more competitors open new restaurants nearby with better food) I mean I even saw a group of senior citizens who had like two small bites of their Eggs Benedict or Sandwich and were ‘finished’. Pretentious at best. Another reason I hate and despise French restaurants and French cuisine as a whole.

This place is such an establishment in Meatpacking, I’m surprised they are renovating it. My friends were 30 minutes late for their reservation, so we got seated at the communal table(which was fine). I found it awkward to wait since there weren’t many seats at the bar and the hostess didn’t really make an effort to make me feel welcome. The server was very pushy from the start, trying to sell us an $ 80 Malbec bottle of wine when we wanted the $ 40 one. He continued to push appetizers on us and the other servers/busboys tried to rush us through our meal by preemptively clearing our plates. The food was decent, but definitely overpriced thanks to the location of the restaurant. We got the scallops and calamari for appetizers. The scallops were very good, but the calamari wasn’t anything special. For my entrée, I had the trout which I was pleased with. My friends’ fries seemed limp and lukewarm to me but they liked them. Of all the dishes ordered, the moules frites looked the best. Not a place I would go to again due to overpriced dishes and rushed service.

Overall the food is OK but not great. Came for lunch on a weekday and was seated next to a very loud person and after 10 minutes I understood why their brother hated them. What I didn’t understand was why the people they were with continued to listen to them in silence. Did they hold some key to their release that the audience could not break away? That person paid for the meal so I guess it evened out… But I digress. On to the food review. The onion soup gratin was decent as was the chicken liver and foie gras mousse. Of course those are 2 things that would be difficult to mess up. My wife got the croque madam and I got the cheeseburger a cheval. Apparently this means the burger comes with an egg on top, which was a nice touch. However, since we were both pretty full from the appetizers, we split the burger and took the sandwich to go. The burger was good but a little more cooked than the medium that I ordered. Overall the food was good, the service was good, but the loud person, not so much.

What a fun place. It was packed on the Saturday morning we made reservations, but I’m glad we had the reservations — you need them! Breakfast was big — lots of egg dishes and yummy combinations. The brioche French toast was sweet and decadent. I had eggs with lox on an English muffin and it was a big meal and very filling. If you want an NYC experience and maybe to spot a celebrity or two(like we did), then go to Pastis. It’s fun and lively and going for brunch is the way to go.

Apparently back in 2000 Pastis was«the place» to be seen. However, today, although still packed to the core with models, tourists, and locals, it no longer maintains the same image as it did in beginning of the century. I came here for brunch with a friend on a Sunday morning around noon and we didn’t even have to wait to be seated. Score! The service was pretty terrible. Our waitress never came over to fill up our waters. It seemed as if we ordered our food and then never saw our waitress again. Menu is pricy for what it is. I had the French Onion Soup($ 12), which was tasty but nothing spectacular. My friend ordered the rather pricey Croque Monsier($ 16) which he was not impressed with. He only finished half of it and left completely underwhelmed. We shared and order of French Fries($ 9), which were decent, although not worth the expensive price tag. As John D. said«closing in January ’14, and good riddance.»

This had been one of my favorite places in NYC. This WAS a great bistro for a nice meal before or after exploring the HighLine Park. It is now an OK bistro with prices of a great bistro. Had Steak Frite which was just OK, friend had Lentil Soup, again just mediocre. Service was good and we were able to get a table noontime on a Friday. Probably won’t be returning anytime soon. Too many other places to try in NYC.

I’ve been wanting to diner here for awhile. The service was awesome and the food was good, but not somewhere that I’d return time and time again. We were a party of four. Everyone besides me had the steak frites, while I had the swordfish tandoori. I was told the steak was very good, fries nice and crisp, and the hollandaise delectable. The swordfish was well seasoned, but the portion was a bit small. It was basically two medium biscotti sized steaks. Overall the food was overpriced for the portion size. The service was awesome and we were comfortable the whole time. I’d recommend stopping in for dinner if you’re nearby.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Pastis, but I wanted to enjoy the weather this weekend and returned for brunch just for the La Peche cocktail. Still feel the food is good but a bit pricey for what most dishes are, but the people watching and location are still why I enjoy going. The service has never been memorable, but this last visit was noticeably lackluster. The young hostesses at the front door were a bit dim and sent me to the inside podium when I asked to put my name down for two. At the podium, they told me I needed to talk to the two at the front door because they just take reservations. Our waitress only came to our table twice when we first sat to take our drink order and then check if we were ready to order food. After that, she never checked on us even though she was in the area most of the time and we had to flag her down to order food and anything else after that.

We came here for a friend’s bachelorette dinner and the service was great! For appetizers, we tried the shrimp cocktail and calamari, both of which were good but nothing special. For entrée, I ordered their Friday special mussels. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. There were about 8 mussels on top of a bed of spinach. The spinach was way too salty. If you like mussels I would recommend getting their mussels that is on the regular menu which come with fries. My friends got that one and it looked and smelled delicious. For dessert, we tried the crème brûlée, which was pretty good but not the best that I have had.

Pretty solid steak frites with bernaise sauce. Their french fries are the perfect texture-skinny and crunchy but could use a little salt. There’s a reason why it’s called french fries :) Crêpe suzette was yummy, crème brûlée was a little too sweet. Take advantage of the outdoor seating space when it’s warm out. Awesome people watching.

Another over due review! I went here with my father and his wife while they were visiting in NYC and I was so excited when he decided to check out Pastis! I have always wanted to go here and was ecstatic! This place is so amazing to me especially since it is located in the iconic neighborhood of the Meatpacking District! Upon my arrival, I was kind of annoyed that they did not let me try to find my father and his wife at their table as my dad did not make a reservation and, with his luck, managed to find a table as a walk-in. After describing him and eventually pointing at him once I had spotted him, she let me walk in. I mean, I was wearing black pumps, a A-line skirt and white top what did she think I was going to do? Relax. Besides that, I had a wonderful experience there. The waiter was incredibly attentive and the wine was great. I recall having the pasta puttanesca and loving the kick that the sauce had. The ambience was cute and trendy but it was incredibly loud not because of music but because of how crowded it was! Despite the crowd, we still had our own space. I will definitely come back here again, given that my father takes me out or when I finally have my own job since this place is incredibly expensive but worth it!

Pastis for Lunch. Sehr freundliches Personal.

3.5 stars. I did Sunday brunch at Pastis, and there were definite highs and lows. The good: — The buzzy French brasserie atmosphere was fun, and very similar to Balthazar. It seems more casual and open though, and they have outdoor seating. — I had the French 75 cocktail, which was delicious. — I also had a Croque Monsieur, which was open faced. So my eyes widened when the circle topped with broiled cheese came out in front of me. It was seriously delicious, with soft chewy bread, salty ham, and tangy cheese. — The service was attentive, which was surprising considering how large the place is. The bad: — The Croque Monsieur was served with a side of inedible, undressed bitter greens. Were they a garnish or a failed attempt at a salad? Confusing. — Basically the value was very poor, and most things were clearly overpriced. If I’m paying $ 16 for a glorified ham and cheese sandwich, I want some fries with it, or at least a little salad. Lyon on Greenwich Ave. has the exact same sandwich for the exact same price, but it comes with fries and salad. The French 75 cocktail was very small for $ 14. The famous double-fried French fries looked delicious wrapped in butcher paper, but were $ 9. It’s not unexpected, but it prevents a 4-star review in this case. The ugly: — Since it’s in the Meatpacking District and many guidebooks, this place gets its fair share of B&T fabulo-wannabe’s and tourists, in addition to downtown locals. Risky.

5 stars for the company I was with and for being able to enjoy breakfast on their outside patio during the last week of November. My dining companion is a HUGE regular here so we received a warm welcome as soon as we walked in by the hostess. We opted to sit outside even though it was early in the morning bc there are not to many opportunities to eat outside in NY during the last week of November. The patio space was quite cramped and even though our party was only three and we were seated at a table for four it seemed rather snug. Our server arrived quickly for our drink orders and they arrived right away. I’m a cream and sugar coffee girl but their coffee was darn good so I enjoyed it as it. We took a few minutes to browse through the menu and to be honest, nothing jumped out at me. I ended up deciding on the Ham and Cheese Croissant with a side of fruit. The croissant was good but there was no wow factor at all. The croissant was a croissant. The ham was ham and the cheese was cheese. For the price of it, I was expecting a top quality ham and a mind blowing cheese. Maybe even a little mixed green salad on the side but a croissant on a plate was all I got. The fruit bowl was pretty awful as none of the fruit was ripe. The $ 12 price tag for it made me cringe. Service was fine and they kept our coffee and water glasses full but I felt rushed when it came to the clearing of the plates. If I had to pay for this meal this is the one that would have had me saying«NY prices are outrageous!». Thankfully I was treated to this meal by a very generous fella. Pastis is in an adorable area and I bet I would love a leisurely meal here on their patio during the spring but I probably won’t be returning here on future NY visits.
