Panyc Salon

I walked in today, with no appointment, to do a root touch up, as I my greys had grown significantly. I’ve been traveling in the past 5 weeks and wont be home until another 2 weeks, so needed desperately to fix my color. I was assigned to Billy Ray, who was simply spectacular. He did an AMAZING color, was super friendly, as was everyone else at the salon. Will def come back whenever in NY.

JC is just the best. I have been going for years, and get exactly what I want each time, cut and color. I could not go for 6 months and still get compliments all the time. Recently was in a bind and went to see someone else in Brooklyn that was recommended to me due to time constraints, regretting it literally every time I look in the mirror. Gorgeous salon, nice staff, love it all!

I originally made an appointment for a Brazilian Blowout but at the last minute decided to get a trim instead. The receptionist was super nice and accommodating about my change, and I got an appointment that day. (Side note: they’re one of the few NYC salons that are actually accredited by Brazilian Blowout, so no worries about getting a second-​rate product).
I have medium-​long baby fine frizz-​prone hair that I’ve been growing out of a pixie cut for years, so I’m super sensitive about it. I initially told him I just wanted a little trim off the bottom, but he sweet talked me into getting layers. I’ve always been told layers + fine hair = disaster, but I decided to trust him and go for it.
Javier was so sweet and put up with my crazy nervous energy and made me feel super comfortable. I have to say I don’t think my hair has ever looked better! It still looks long, but instead of falling flat it’s bouncy and way pretty. He also took his time to give me beautiful beach waves. I’m obsessed.

I needed a wash, cut and style before the weekend — and found this salon right by my office. They took me in that same day and from the moment I walked in, every person at the salon was awesome. I had BILLY RAY and definitely going back to him for every cut moving forward. He was so sweet, patient, informative, funny and just made a routine cut so enjoyable! He gave me some tips for keeping my hair healthy and I can’t rave about him enough. I felt fabulous walking out of the salon.
I know he also does color and invited me back to fix a balayage gone wrong.
I love this place!!!

Writing this review makes me really upset because I came in to Panyc really looking forward to having a fresh look for the summer and eventually left with lackluster hair that i’m completely unhappy with especially because i spent a lot of money on it. Came in to get highlights on my hair which I already had some highlights on. I made sure to explain that I wanted the tips to be lighter than the roots, resembling ombré. I had 2 pictures that I showed the hair stylist. After the hair coloring was done the hair ended up being more or less one color with very little contrast and dimension. Nothing like the picture i showed or what i asked for.
Then, on top of that, the toner that was applied to the highlight became very brassy over the course of two weeks giving the highlights a orangy look. The hairstylist eventually had me return to fix the brass after i contacted him (which was great customer service) but ended up adding a dark toner to my entire hair completely negating the $ 300 i paid to have the hair highlighted in the first place. Worse of all was the fact that he also added the dark toner to my blonde tips making them darker than what I had initially even walked into the salon with. When i explained my frustration I was told that I had to pay for another half highlights to get my tips blonder.
However the reason why the tips became darker to begin with was because of the toner he applied!!! I walked in with blonde tips! I left with my tips darker because of the toner yet I have to pay for more highlights? I have to pay to fix the mistake. I have never experienced this and i’ve been coloring my hair for 10 years. I was really disappointed at the level of customer service at that point and was completely fed up. i hate my hair and now i have to save money in order to go somewhere else to have it fixed.
All i’m saying is do your research.

I’m giving Simon 5 stars b/​c he fixed a bad cut I had gotten not so long ago. He was so sweet and was meticulous about addressing all of my concerns. I actually really like my cut this time and only stop short of loving it b/​c he had to cut a length I’m not crazy about. The salon offers happy hour wine which is a nice touch.

I thought long and hard about this because I didn’t want to share my secret with everyone but… Billy Ray is AMAZING!
Every single staff member is very nice and attentive. The place is clean and has great prices for NYC. I don’t expect myself going to another hair salon anytime soon.

I have never written a Unilocal review but feel the need to after my experience yesterday at this salon.
After doing a lot of research to find a somewhat reasonable salon in NY I found PANYC. This salon is still expensive with me spending over $ 90 for an experience I did not enjoy. At the end of the day, my hair cut is fine, but you invest that money for an experience as well. I had a haircut with Simon and I felt that he was extremely lazy. He did not wash my hair (convinced me it looks better dirty) and did not put any product in to style it. He literally came up to me while I was paying and put products in my fingertips for me to style it myself… not what I am paying for. I showed him photos of the style I wanted and left with nothing even close. The haircut was rushed, and I knew this once I saw another client immediately in his chair after I paid. No wonder he didn’t want to wash my hair. I was very annoyed at my experience. Was not even offered water or anything, and you should be treated well when you are spending that much money on a service. I do not mean to complain, but $ 90 is not cheap, especially for a college student who has been looking forward to going to a salon to have not just a haircut but a nice experience. I am disappointed and do not plan on returning to this salon. Bummer too because I am a girl with short hair and have been on the lookout for a salon that I can frequent often. The hair cut turned out fine, but my experience was not. Yeah Simon was a great guy to talk to, but he was lazy. I am writing this review to let others know that the experience was not worth the money you will spend.

Want to make heads turn when you walk by? Panyc is such an awesome salon– your hair will look amazing! I’ve been going there for 4 years, and all of the stylists are great– they’re super attentive and friendly. I get a Brazilian blowout treatment too, and it’s life-​changing!

Decided to make a change and try a new stylist and we all know that could be a little scary. I could not be happier!
I showed Mary Lou what I wanted and she did exactly that! Returning client for sure :)

I have been doing my hair at this place for over 7 years now, my stylists always surprise me with something new. Merylou is the best colorist, you definitely wouldn’t be able to find someone so professional and so passionate. I am very picky about my hair style and color, when I visit hair salon I want to feel special and look refreshed. Before I found Panyc Salon I visited so many places, and I never received an appropriate treatment (some people just don’t have the talent to do hair). When I visit Merylou and JC I don’t even have to explain them what I want, they always suggest me something different and new. Last time I visited Panyc Salon because I wanted to change completely. Merilou gave me a full-​head of highlights and JC gave me a bob hair cut. I was amazed looking at myself, in a mirror I saw a different person and that was definitely the one that I loved! :) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way my hair looks now!!! Thank you so much guys for taking such a good care of me!

I’ve never had better coloring than that done by Billy Ray. He is detailed and committed to perfection. My blonde highlights always look flawless, and just the right tone and mixture of colors. The price is high, but the quality of his work is worth it.

I wanted to experience a nyc haircut and decided to try PANYC based on reviews i read and the location. My appointment was with billyray and he did an amazing job with my hair. I wanted something light, but still long. Easy to maintain, and quick to put in an updo. He certainly delivered and i am extremely happy.

i originally went here because it was close to my office across the street. Now I’m a bit further away and still make the trek because they employ great stylists, and are just outright awesome.
Want a great men’s haircut? Ask for Simon. He’s a perfectionist in the best sense and shaped my unruly hair into looking sharp.

This place is all sorts of awesomeness.
First of all, customer service is impeccable. You are greeted with a smile and are treated like royalty during your time here. Everyone is highly professional, yet very down to earth and personable. They always have the coolest tracks playing.
Ok, now down to the real stuff: hair cutting!
My stylist is Paul which is master hair guru. The man knows his craft. His magic is on his close attention to detail while cutting. More than a cutter I’d say he’s an artist and will work miracles to give you the BEST cut you’ll ever have. I mean, my new cut has literally transformed my life, it is fierce, sexy, edgy, daring and the amount of compliments I get for it is outrageous!
Go here!!! Even if you find a cheaper cut somewhere else, coming here is worth EVERY penny!!!

I never truly understood what a stylist was until I found Simon. I just moved to the city and was nervous about finding a new salon, especially one that wouldn’t cost a fortune. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my hair, so we talked for a while, and Simon came up with a few ideas. Not just ideas, but visions. He showed me what he could do, and made sure I was comfortable with it. He really takes his time with his clients, and pays so much attention to detail. So often stylists leave you hanging in the chair to «check on Kelly’s highlights,» but I was his only client and had his full attention, which I appreciated.
As a result, my hair looks fabulous. I’m so happy with it, I was even moved to buy product, which is something I rarely do. And it wasn’t even forced on me! I’ve always been satisfied with salons and my hair, but just that – satisfied. Now, I’m excited about it! Simon was never pushy, just patient, careful and so friendly. And all for $ 75, in New York City.
Panyc itself is great, too – lovely space, nice people. Everyone I talked to was very friendly. Probably my favorite part of the entire experience was that Peanut, the salon’s weenie dog, sat calmly on my lap while Simon worked his magic.
You can pay with a card for your haircut and product, but have to tip with cash.

I got a cut & blow here a few years ago and wish I remembered her name. I do remember the place is very modern, clean and spacious with friendly staff. She listened to what I was looking for and I was very happy with the cut & style. Since I have very curly frizzy hair she could’ve done a better job at blowing (which means focusing more heat at the roots to eliminate frizz) but that’s usually the case at non-​Dominican salons (they definitely know how to blow the kinkiest hair pin straight!) Would return and recommend!

I love this place. It all started Saturday when my class finished 2 hours early yeep. I have been eye balling PANYC salon due to its Unilocal reviews, and today was the day to go and get my hair done.
I was greeted warmly by the receptionist even though I had no appointment. I asked if I can get my hair done thinking is the Bx or Washington Heights and you don’t need appointments, and to my surprise he accommodated me with a Master colorist. The master stylist turn out to be Mary Lou.
Ohh Mary Lou is so sweet and down to earth. I wanted a rich dark chocolate color that appears black but is not as harsh as the black. I didn’t have to go on long explanations, and my hair turn out excellent. I love my color.
Then Billy Ray comes in to join the party ;). I needed my hair blow dry.
Billy Ray proceeded to blow dry my hair. Billy Ray is a sweetheart. I returned two weeks later and got the Keratin treatment by Billy. Mr. Ray is adorable he is the only person I that cuts my bangs and does my keratin treatments.

I had my hair cut with Hannah at Panyc for the first time yesterday. I am so thrilled with the cut she gave me– it was the perfect combination of the photo I showed her plus some slight changes we talked about to make the cut suit my face and style. In addition to the awesome haircut, Hannah was also super friendly and great to chat with during my visit.
While I was there I saw two other clients come in– one who received a similarly great hair cut, and another who wanted her fringe re-​done after she decided she didn’t like the way it was initially cut. Her stylist was totally accommodating and made sure she was happy with the final result, so although I’m 100% pleased with my cut it’s great to see Panyc goes above and beyond to make sure their customers are happy.
I give Panyc a full 5-​stars for a talented and friendly staff, affordable prices (by NYC standards), and a great overall experience. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!
