These guys are my favorite amongst the fish vendors at Un Sq market. They have the best prices, and are always really friendly and helpful with cooking suggestions.

Nice Place, Fresh seafood, not so cheap though… I enjoy the experience of shopping in Union Square, but sometimes you end up spending almost 50% more than in other stores.

I am kicking myself as I write this review. I really shouldn’t tell anyone how awesome this place is. There is already a line every Saturday morning. The best scallops I’ve probably had in my life. It’s more expensive than any supermarket but it’s going to be the best seafood you will be able to buy.

as fresh as you can get! we came here once for live scallops, so we can make sea scallop sashimi as home. the lady who helped us was so nice, she even educated us on how to make sashimi and how to clean a live scallop.

Face it New Yorkers, your local grocery store sells low-quality seafood(I’m talking Gristede’s, Key Foods, Foodtowns, etc). If you want EXCELLENT quality seafood, you have to work for it. Get up early on a Saturday and go to the PE&DD stand at the Greenmarket. It will be worth your while. The majority of their offerings are sold out by 2/3pm. I’ve purchased a number of different types, all have been wonderful. A quick, easy, weekend meal and worth every penny.

I can’t believe these guys have only one review — they are by far the best source of fresh fish in this city. My husband stops by there religiously and purchases the main event for our weekend meals, along with the what-not to go with it — this is a list of our favorites: Buttery scallops and squash soup(purchased the squash down the row of tents) tuna steaks peppered with leafy leafy green salad(purchased the greens down the row of tents) Shark with leeks(purchased the leeks…) Several types of white fish with scallions, lemon, garlic, etc…(purchased the…) This is a great resource for us in the city. Eat fresh. Eat locally. Eat Well.

I don’t pretend to know things that i don’t know. But i also tend to loudly(maybe too loudly?) declare what i do know. And i know fish. Lately a lot of people have been asking where to get sashimi grade fish in the city, or just plain old good fish. I always warn them away from the local fish stores and grocery stores. Even with Whole Foods and Balducci and Citarella, sometimes they’re ok but sometimes they’re just plain lousy(old fish), and any way you cut it, they’re never the real top grade. That’s because, bottom line, fish has to be fresh, and fresh means caught, carefully handled, and eaten within three days maximum. Also, a lot of salaried food workers just don’t really know fish, since it’s just a selling job to them. Every Saturday at Union Square Greenmarket, the P.E. & D.D. Seafood fish stand offers the freshest and highest quality fish i’ve ever had in this city(aside from what i’ve caught myself). I’ve been a regular customer for years. It’s a local family-run business; they do their fishing on eastern Long Island. Most important, and this is the key, THEFISHYOUBUYONSATURDAYWASCAUGHTONFRIDAY. It also helps to know the fish weren’t caught in huge nets strung by multinational fishing trawlers that trap and kill everything in their path. P.E. & D.D. have two boats and a small crew. In my humble opinion, it’s a stupendous opportunity for city folk to have this resource. i’m jazzed right now because for the third week in a row i’ve had a Saturday night meal of tuna and scallop sashimi that practically melted in my mouth. Tomorrow i’ll be frying a fillet of striped bass. With a little butter, lemon and sea salt, it’s heaven. No need for crazy sauces or spices when the fish is fresh. Next week i’ll probably have a blue, maybe some sand shark if they have it, with steamed vegetables, a little cous cous, and then the cheese plate with those new fall apples. ahh, the Greenmarket. ahh, the Greenmarket. ahh, the Greenmarket. One final note: selection varies from week to week. See the photo for today’s menu, for example. They sell their fish with a smile and a warm homey attitude, and it’s clear that they take pride in and even love their product. They’re patient in showing you any piece or any cut you want. They don’t mind when i ask for«just a small handful» of scallops. Other places often turn requests like that into a math test: but how many pounds? blah blah blah…
