It’s hard to review gay bars. What am I evaluating? The crowd? The service? The drinks? The location? The music? On all accounts, I would give Nowhere an «A-OK» three stars. The space is dark and strangely laid out(with a massive, well, block of space in the very center of the establishment that sometimes is, awkwardly, empty). The drinks and service are great, and everyone is low-key. I wouldn’t call this place«nice,» though. The restrooms leave something to be desired, and while it’s a perfectly fine spot, I don’t think I would ever go here unless friends wanted to meet up in the spot. In a city(and especially, a neighborhood) with so many good food and drink options, I would definitely look elsewhere. Then again, if you are looking for a low-key, basic gay bar on 14th St., Nowhere is probably your best bet!

Just a regular dive bar. Not sure why it is listed as a gay bar — most patrons were pretty damn straight. The drinks were good and it was not too crowded Thirsday evening so we were able to use the pool table with no wait. The music selection was terrible however.

I regularly meet up with a friend here for Happy Hour on Fridays, and I’m a fan! With decent drinks, low prices, and a lively yet laid back atmosphere, how could I not be? And with a Unilocal check-in, you get a $ 1 off any drink!

Love this place. Low key and fun. Stiff drinks without blowing your wad. The bartender, Gavin, is awesome. Consistently a good place to hang out or just breeze through.

Went there last weekend for my birthday — the vibe, the music, the décor — everything about it was fun and chill. I love going out for drinks but I don’t do the dance club scene, so it was really nice to be in a relaxed space. It didn’t hurt that the drinks weren’t expensive and it being my birthday, well … let’s just say I left very«spirited.» :)

I lost my bag here — someone appears to have stolen it. When I asked the security guard he smarmily told me to «go look for it» and reminded me that«it’s a bar.» No shit! No responsibility and no sympathy, and attitude as well. Thankfully I called them up the next day and they had it safely behind the bar! I guess one of the employees picked up to keep it from being snatched. The drink my friend got was way too strong. They also have a $ 20 minimum for credit card charges.

This place is fine, reasonably priced and the happy hour is a good deal. Most of the staff are cool, honestly a couple of the bartenders tend to be cliquey but I don’t really care as I’m beyond the point where I think bartenders are cool, it just bothers me when I’m waiting on a drink. Yes the security can be dicks but that’s kinda their job. I agree it is laughable when they charge a cover as I can’t really tell the difference when an event is going on there and when one isn’t. But if you just want to grab a drink this place is good. Sometimes it’s hard to strike up conversations because the guys are glued to their grindrs which I always find odd when one is out in a bar where live not virtual people surround you.

Love this place! Me and my GF came here randomly one night and were quite pleased. Drinks are cheap but strong and the music is great. Had some great times here. I’m now a frequent customer and it doesn’t disappoint.

0– stars by far the worst customer service ever EVER!!! I came to an empty lounge on a hot day to cool off with a simple 3 dollar bud beer and I was rejected because my ID was a few days expired. Im 27 years old and i just got off from a long days work. Also ive been to this bar many times and never had a problem. Well this is the last time i will ever come here and i will make sure my friends never buy from u again. Horrible business guys. Honestly if my bar was empty on a hot summer day and a 27 year old thats been here many times before, came in for a $ 3 beer i would just let him have it. Even if his ID was expired a few days. Think twice about who u reject. I have a lot of connections and could have brought in a lot of business.

Nowhere bar is fantastic. I love the music, décor and staff is very friendly. If you’re not into the Hell’s Kitchen scene, you’ll be happy.

Really great non-scene bar. Very friendly bartenders and good drink specials. The patrons are also friendly and refreshingly diverse.

Liked this place until now… Went along to Fire in the Hold and the doorman wouldn’t let us in without ID. Weird… as I was there the night before without ID, and I am 44 with long grey hair and a grey beard! Goodbye Nowhere.

Fuck, the security was queer and transphobic who doesn’t recognize diversity as he forced me to present other Id’s cause I don’t look like my driver license’s. I finally was let in. I work a natural eyeliner makeup. I’m so not okay with it. It should be inclusive of queer trans people of color.

Gone here for years. They just started scanning ID’s. Which scares the shit out of me. Aside from that it’s a laid back gay bar, only one I know of in the Nyc metro area. Literally the only place in Nyc I don’t feel too old to be in at 31.

In a word, this is the«Gay Cheers» of the East Village. Most of the bartenders are super cute and always very friendly. The music and crowd varies from night to night and they have different theme parties monthly. The drinks are fairly priced for top shelf liquor and«down right cheap» for well, basic beers on tap, or in a can. Unlike many other bars, you are getting what you pay for. There is no «hanky panky“with the booze. What you ask for, is what you get. Make no mistake, this is a «dive» bar in the best sense of the word. It never feels exclusive. The ambience is bottom line, and no frills. Promotional posters advertising different nights cover the walls. The bathroom is a enter at your own risk affair. Come dressed from work, the gym, or all dragged if you want. Go with friends,(or even better go on your own to meet new ones), you can always count on having a good time.

This is my favorite bar in Manhattan, in fact in all of NYC. That doesn’t mean everyone will love it like I do, but here is why I like it so much: * super friendly bartenders who not only get the drinks out fast but also find time to say hello & chat some — no matter how crowded, I have never had a long wait for a drink * free water & cups always available — I don’t think I’ve ever seen that in any other New York bar * great DJs who spin a variety of music depending on the night, including evenings of 80s hits & less well known tunes(sound that brings me back to my dancey youth) * a friendly crowd — I’ve gone there many times by myself & have always managed to strike up conversations with cool people * an atmosphere of be yourself & let your freak flag fly * various fun nooks for hanging out with friends * hilarious low-budget decorations on party nights * on that note, tons of wacky & sexy theme parties, such as Scary Mary, Double Headed Disco, & Fire in the Hole(redhead fetish night) * and all of this takes place in a dark, yet friendly, subterranean space If these reasons appeal to you, stop on in. And check their website or FB page for their list of events.

From the moment you enter this place you think to yourself«what a dive»(and not the good kind of dive!). It’s very pretentious, the music is not loud enough and it feels very clique-y, there’s no vibe and I thought everyone looked the same. Apparently you’re not allowed to text whilst in there. I made the«mistake» of looking at my phone and this girl jumped at me and started pushing me away from the area in a very rude and dismissive tone of voice as I wasn’t allowed to «do that» there. I looked around thinking I was blocking an emergency exit or something then thought«this is a joke?» but she said she was serious. I don’t know what she was doing there but she should be fired on the spot. You can’t push and shove punters! The irony? The night was called«Pick up» !! As in pick up your coat and leave! Vile place. Just vile.

Fantastic music, furry men, and the worlds friendliest coat check will make this my first stop for gay bars when I return to NYC. Going to Nowhere is a little like going to a party with a good friend where he knows the DJ and you know no one. Close-knit groups of 3 – 5 chat and carry on while you and whoever you came with look for opportunities to pop into a conversation and chat up the adorable guy fiddling with his un-ironed flannel shirt. Once you meet one person, you immediately know what feels like everyone in the bar and the already warm environment begins to feel like home. A $ 20 credit card limit isn’t as inconvenient as it would seem, either.

This a pretty straight-forward dive bar with nothing particularly amazing to mention. They do have a pool area and the drinks are cheap. This place is very laid back with no pretense.

Kajagoogoo would probably never sing about this place because nobody I’ve met here is ever Too Shy*. People here seem to be friendly and relaxed and you can strike up a conversation easily. Not like some of the places in Chelsea or Hell’s Kitchen where people just want to be seen but if you try to talk to them, they freeze like they’re auditioning for a remake of «Mannequin».(Which was far superior to «Mannequin 2: On the Move– I mean, I like William Ragsdale but he is no Andrew McCarthy) In any event, this is kind of a cool place. It’s very laid back and much like an English Muffin, has lots of nooks and crannies where you can go and talk with friends new or old. Plus it’s very dimly lit, so that helps me look better. Drinks seem to be okay. I had a couple of beers and I am not convinced the tap lines are cleaned regularly. To me this seems to be the type of place you’d either start your evening or end your evening. _____________________ * I have no idea what the hell he’s singing about, but I’m liking the hair
