I have been coming here for over a year and I have experienced nothing but professional and knowledgeable sales people and mechanics. Sarah, the store manager, is really phenomenal and knows everything about bikes. I just bought a new road bike from them and she recommend the perfect one in regards to price and what I was looking for. Sarah recommended different products to me that I actually needed but I never felt like I was being taken advantage of. Love this store!

Dropped in after work to purchase a new helmet. Staff members were friendly and helpful — 100% satisfied with my first (and definitely not last) experience.

Lame. Went to buy a bike tube. Employee was super unhelpful. He could have helped me figure out what I needed. Instead he just gave me attitude for not knowing. Figured out the tube I needed by looking my bike up online on my phone while in the store. But next time I’ll buy online and save the attitude, time, and a few dollars or go elsewhere.
I know you’re not paying rent by selling bike tubes but I’ll never go to your store again. And won’t feel bad when you get replaced by a bank because you can’t make rent.

Love this place! Don’t waste your time at other shops in the east village. I ride a beat up old schwinn, it gets me where I need to go and I don’t really fear it will get stollen. That being said, I dread going to a repair shop in the east village because of the pretentious people that usually work in them. This place is completely the opposite, I walked in and a woman approached me, she reviewed my bike and made some recommendations based on what I told her was going on. She was so knowledgeable and not the least bit pushy. Told me they could text me when they finished with the repairs in a couple hours. I ended up having to go uptown and thought I’d stop in to see the status after an hour and a half. The guy at the counter looked in the back and said that they had just finished! He was so friendly as well. All repairs were great and the service level is outstanding! Thank you! I will certainly be back again and again!

I purchased a bike from this location about a year ago, and have been thrilled with the product and services ever since. I was in the market for a pretty standard, easy-​keeper commuter bike, and my budget was up to 400. The staff didn’t try to upsell me, and counseled me that I could get a higher quality bike for that budget if I chose a single speed over a geared bike, since gears are superfluous for a commuter bike in NYC. I love the cute little Fuji I settled on, she has been exactly what I needed, light & low maintenance. I purchased their 25 $ lifetime flat insurance (free parts & labor to replace the tube) when I got her, in addition to their standard lifetime service plan (free standard tune-​ups for the life of the bike). I brought her in at the beginning of this spring when we got back on the road after winter, and again recently to get my brake pads replaced. I have always received exemplary service & plan to continue to use this store!

Do not let these guys touch your bike if you care about it or your safety. The mechanic that worked on mine is dangerously sloppy and incompetent.
After a lot of research I decided to get some top-​rated German made fenders (SKS Longboards) for my fast commuter hybrid.
I had been in this store before to buy saddle bag, but they asked $ 30 for an item that went for $ 17 on Amazon. I had been willing to pay a 20%-30% premium over online, but this was way over the top and I spun on my heel and walked out. I believe in supporting Local Bike Shops, but not price gouging factory outlets (Trek in this case).
Unfortunately they were the only LBS that sold the model in the color I was interested in (they were too big to ship to an Amazon locker or I would have bought them online). I paid around $ 60 compared to around $ 40 online, which was not totally unreasonable.
They finally came in two days late. I would have installed them myself, but I didn’t have a tool to cut the heavy gauge wire fender stays to size so I took them up on their offer of $ 18 to install them, which seemed like a really good deal. Big mistake.
Warning bells should have gone off when I saw the mechanic take one look at the fenders and then point a wizened claw at some crappy Bontrager adjustable fenders on the wall and say something inaudible to the salesman. I heard the salesman tell him «but he ordered these special» several times until the mechanic finally gave in.
The mechanic totally fucked up the install. Not only did he decide to just leave out a critical part, (the rear seatstay bridge bracket), but he didn’t bother to cut the stays to the proper length, which is the only way to get the fender to conform to the shape of the wheel with the necessary tight clearance. There was a 3 – 4 inch gap at the rear of both fenders! He then just took the black end caps for the stays, which are specially designed to be integrated into the fender fastener assemblies, and stuck them on the ends of the exposed stays like little lollipops as an afterthought.
I noped the hell out of there and rode the bike over to Waterfront. I almost crashed when my foot caught one of the exposed front end stays in a turn. Two of the end caps vibrated loose and were lost on the way. But Waterfront was able to salvage the botched install for $ 20.
I vowed never to return, but as luck would have it broke a spoke on my rear wheel the very next day. Waterfront was closed (4^th of July) so these guys were my only nearby option. I got the wheel back with a mismatched black spoke with a sharp bend in it next to the nipple. The «mechanic» had apparently not bothered to remove the cassette and just forced the new spoke through the hub, bending it in the process.
I also got to meet the sarcastic eyefucker employee mentioned in another review. He’s the one behind the counter who cops the longhair-​dirty-​hippy-​vest-​no-​shirt-​tinted-​granny-​glasses look and just shrugs disdainfully when you reply what you’re there for.
Unfuckingbelievable. Stay away from this shop at all costs.

I went into this location on Saturday and by far the worst service I’ve received in a long time. I was in there for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged my existence. I was ready to purchase a Trek bike but no one said one word to me. Then a couple walked in and received help as soon as they arrived having service done on their bikes. Then a rep decides to ask me did I need any help or was I just looking. I proceeded to tell her I did have some questions she told me she would assist me once she is finished with the other customers that had just arrived like I wasn’t already there for 20 minutes. After that I just left the store and visited the one on 96^th and broadway they were very accommodating to me I purchased a Trek bike and the nice gentleman helped me put it in my car and was very nice. From now on I will only visit that location

Was totally taken aback by a rude employee.
Their system was buggy so they could only take cash. When I told him i needed a receipt for my purchase he said «Welllll that sucks cause I can’t give you one.» Listen i get that it’s ev and people wanna sarcastic, but I work a customer service job also and I would never talk to a customer like that. Should’ve told me in the beginning if there wasn’t gonna be a receipt. If it’s cash only then of course some people are gonna want receipts. And there was not a single apology. The cherry on top was that the entire time he was flirting and eyefucking an attractive customer who didn’t really need anymore help and then came back to me finally an hour later like i was the last person he wanted to see that day.
Sarcasm doesn’t work if you’re actually incompetent.
The woman seems to be the most reliable worker.
Yeah it’s a bike shop so they’ll get the job done, which is what really matters, right? That’s why they get the 3 star «A-​OK» rating.

A day after I posted this review, Sarah at the shop gave me a call and apologized for the (lack of) service that my bike had gotten. She really changed my perception of the shop. She not only offered me a free tune up from a different mechanic, but also gave me a full refund for the service. I knocked off one star for the fact that the shop had such a poor mechanic working in the store in the first place and for the inconvenience it caused me for the ~3 week period following before I posted my original review. (Sarah assured me the incident was under review.) Her professionalism and promptness in addressing my issues were really exemplary.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (¹⁄₅ STARS):
As a bike enthusiast who has just started racing this road season, I am utterly disgusted with this shop. I have done much in terms of bike repairs and maintenance, but thought that it would be a good idea to try the «Platinum Tune» to really get my bike in race condition. It was also on sale for half price (~$ 125) — I paid way to much for terrible quality service.
I was not going to write a scathing review of this place, but day after day I find something wrong with my bike. To start, while I was trying my bike out in the shop, my rear dérailleur was misadjusted. Such a simple mistake that was so obvious (the bike was clicking extremely audibly) but I let it pass as an oversight after the mechanic made some adjustments in store.
A couple days later and I notice that my brake pads are worn to nothing. If the mechanics had really «inspected everything down to the bolts,» wouldn’t it have been in their best interest to tell me that my brakes were worn to nothing? In fact why didn’t they charge me for changing them without telling me? They already charged me for new bar tape because they had thrown out my old tape (without telling me about that $ 35 expense until I was paying).
A few more days later and I’m at my first race with my coach. He takes one look at my bike and notices that my shifter/​brake hoods aren’t aligned properly. Really Danny’s Cycles? I now need to unwrap your new bar tape, readjust my shifter/​brake hood, and then rewrap my handlebars because apparently you think I ride with a claw for a right hand.*
Even more infuriating comes after my first race weekend. My crank was making some horrible noises every revolution so I decide to take a look. I remove my crank and check my bottom bracket. Sure I find a fair amount of grease (thank you for actually looking there), but I also find that your mechanics decided to give some frankenstein ball bearing system. Complete with wire that looks like you made it yourselves out of paper clips; was it really too much an expense to spend that $ 10 to actually replace a nonfunctioning sealed bearing system? No, like everything else about this store, you were friendly to my face and gave me complete shit quality parts/​service. This shop is a disgrace to bike riders. I am never coming back to this shop ever again unless if I’m coming with lawyers next I figure out you cut corners on an essential part of my bike that ends up really injuring me. I’m not even three weeks out from my tune up and I’m going somewhere else to fix my bike. Again.
*And if you are wondering: Hey angry reviewer, why didn’t you notice all of this when you were at the store? Well, when you pay ~$ 150 for a professional grade tune up, you don’t really look out for things that the mechanics miss. Sure I could have spent an awkward 45 minutes in the store checking every last detail — but then again, I thought I was spending my hard earned money for the mechanics to be making those observations.

Fast service and everyone who works there is really nice. They’re always friendly and willing to answer my newbie cyclist questions.

I work across the street and rather walk to the Limelight or Paragon.
Staff are rude and not helpful. Absolutely no customers yet they just look at you, clearly not wanting to be bothered. Management — you may want to look into hiring folks that want to work or at least appreciate their job.
Steer clear if you’re looking for anything other than a blank stare from this store.

As a bike rider, I really lucked out having this place on my block. The staff is great, the prices fair and the service quick. They give free bike maintenance classes on Wednesday or Thursday nights?
To any city riders that have not purchased wheel locks, I recommend doing this immediately. Sold here, these bolts are placed on either side of the wheel so you don’t have to worry about it being jacked (which has happened to me twice). Only $ 20 a set and they pop them on for free. They will also install a seat lock which ran me under $ 30 I believe?
Let them secure your bike before it’s too late!

Awesome place! Had a flat tire, it got fixed within 15 minutes plus my gear was working much better AND no sliding sounds anymore… and all for $ 20! And they were nice and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend this place!!!

Nikki is phenomenal and has the most amazing green eyes! You can just get lost in them. She helped me out with my new shoes and even had the new cleats installed for me so I can ride away with my new purchase.

I’m an active cyclist and commuter, recently started working in the area of 14^th street and 3^rd Ave. Ran into a little issue from my commuter bicycle and first stopped in Spokesman Cycles on Irving and 16 because it was a tab closer but customer service in there was so bad I had to walk away. I went down the Block to Metro Bicycles and they took care of bicycle without a hassle and the service was great. Thank you — Nemo from NNR

Let me first start off by saying I have no clue about bicycles, or anything to do with them. Going to Metro Bicycles was a «fish out of water» experience for me.
Now that I’ve stated that. I came here to gather information and possibly buy a bike as a gift. I had no clue where to start but that was just fine because this store was really welcoming. The girl who helped me said her name was Nikki, I must have asked her a million questions. She had a million answers. She was also really friendly and approachable which made me not feel as silly talking her ear off.
With the information I told her, she gave me great recommendations on what I should buy when I was ready to make a purchase. I got all the little stuff that day, mainly so I didn’t have to carry it the same day I’m lugging around a bike probably bigger than me.
To make a long story somewhat short. Metro was great, I think I’ve decided on a bike and I got the information and necessities that I needed thanks to Nikki. I would definitely recommend people come here! Great neighborhood too by the way!

Another great experience at Metro Bicycles. After letting my bike sit unused for a year or two, I brought it into the shop a month ago to have it all tuned up. They quoted me a much better price than another nearby shop and got the work done ahead of schedule. Everyone was very friendly at drop off and pick up.
This week, I decided that my handlebar /​break lever configuration was bothering my wrist tendinitis, so I went in to see what could be done. Nikki was super helpful and friendly and offered a bunch of options, ranging from different types of adjustments to new handlebars.
Seems like the folks there really get along with each other and genuinely care about bikes and the customers.

I’ve taken my bike here twice to have a tube replaced and both times it’s blown within 30 minutes of riding it. I don’t think they understand the weight to pressure ratio that you have to fill up in a tube, which is frustrating. Especially when it strands you out on a trail.

I’m new to New York so I was just looking for the closest bike shop… I brought in my new bike purchased online to have one brake and one wheel fixed! That would have been a matter of 30min at most… they charged me $ 54.44 because they said it needed to be rebuilt! I was shocked and disgusted… all those reviews saying «honest guys,» «free tune up» are not true! They don’t even have a board or something with the cost of their services… so unprofessional, overpriced, and dishonest! You lost a customer for sure!
