If Unilocal enabled me to give this place negative stars, I would. Hands down, the worst customer experience I’ve encountered in a while. I use to come to this place all the time, for a mani & pedi, since it was close to me. I figured I would make a design for my nails since a special event is coming up. I came in around 5:45pm, there was one customer there finishing up her nails and I was assigned to a male technician. It was my first time having a male do my nails, so I was skeptic at first. But, I asked myself why not? He did a decent job on my toes, except he did a poor job painting them, he got polish all around my skin around my toe nails. Good thing, he notice and fixed it. Now, for my nails. This is where it goes down hill. Usually, the technician will remove the previous polish and then tell you to soak your nails in water, then start cutting/filing your nails. Soaking the nails will allow your nails to soften so when the technician cuts them, the nails will not chip(I know this, because my mom use to own her own nail salon). So this time, the technician removed the polish then asked me if I wanted them to be cut. I told him«No, it’s okay, just filing them is fine.» He takes out a nail cutter anyways and started cutting my nails. I didn’t make a comment about it and allowed him to continue(worst decision ever). Then, three customers came in, who the other technicians assisted. My technician asked me whether I wanted the same color on my finger nails, I said«Yes, but not the ring finger. I want a design. How much will it be?» He then asked his boss which was sitting behind him in Chinese. She said«$ 3 for simple design» in Chinese. They assumed I did not speak the language. I said«I don’t want a simple design, I want something like this.» I showed them a picture, my technician had an empty stare and I quickly said«It’s okay, can I see your samples of simple designs then?» He translated it to his boss, and she said really rudely, «Simple design, you know. Just few lines. We don’t have samples, if she wants design just ask her for a picture.» Then, I allowed them to understand that I speak and understand Chinese too. More customers came in. The boss rushes him. The technician asked me to pay first. I gave them a $ 50 bill and the boss gave the technician the change all folded, in which the technician had to hug all the folded bills to bring to the table to properly unfold them to give me. They rang me up with a total without design and I said I want a design. He asked me again«What kind of design?» I said«Can you show me what you can do?» He pulls out a pen and paper and draw 2 curved lines, creating a X design. I asked«Can you make like a flower?» He literally drew 5 little dots to make a flower… I use to design my nails all the time and that’s what I did for myself when I was in grade school when I first started nail art. At this point, I was furious. 1. They were gossiping so much in Chinese about other customers and they thought I did not understand. 2. They were rushing the technician to just do a whatever job. 3. How does someone work at a nail salon and not know how to do any designs on nails other than lines and dots??? Then, the boss rushes the technician again. And he says to me «next time.» I answered them in Chinese, «There’s no next time, if you guys are so reluctant to provide satisfying customer service and pushing your customers out.» No one answers. He quickly finishes up by putting excessive polish on(which didn’t even dry after I left, went to Walgreen’s to pick up some stuff and walked another 10 minutes home). Then, moves me to the dryer area and no longer acknowledged me. I stayed for 15 minutes at the dryer. A customer that just did a manicure left and they all said«Thank you, see you again soon!» I leave 20 seconds later, no one said anything… I realize when I left, my nails were all cut unevenly and crooked(see pictures). My nails on my right hand is significantly shorter than the left… When I came home, I washed my hair… my nails got caught in my hair AND after my shower, I looked at my nails… the polish was already chipping off(refer to pictures). WORSTNAILSALONEXPERIENCEEVER!!!

I’ve came here a handful of times to do acrylic nails and it was decent. But this time it was the worst experience I’ve have had being here. I had a nail technician doing my nails and setting on the acrylic, afterwards the owner took over to finish my nails since it was getting busy. She did a horrible job. My nails were uneven and thick, she didn’t take her time to file it correctly. I kept telling her to fix it but she kinda did a few swift filing motions that didn’t really help. The owner puts on the polish, it comes out uneven and she didn’t get the edges. I ask her to put a third coat to even things out. She kept saying no. Like hello, I am paying you to do my nails adequately and it’s not even half that. The nail technician that was originally doing my nails came over and was trying to fix it. She took off the polish and filed my nails more trying to fix the mistakes the owner did. She was really nice and tried fixing it for me, but in the end it wasn’t great. $ 25 for acrylic nails isn’t a bad price but the quality of their work is not worth your money to spend here.

I go here since it’s close to home. I usually go when they offer discounts on Mondays through Wednesdays. I think the quality depends on which technician does your nails. They have a card you can get stamped after each service to get a free manicure.

It’s hard for me to write a review about any nail salon because in my experience, they all hover around the same mediocre median. I return to New Idol because it is close to my house, they stay open til 8 pm, the prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and my mani/pedis last satisfactorily long. Note: I always get regular mani/pedis, never gel. I always swipe on topcoat the day after a fresh mani/pedi and I try to be careful when doing things that might wreck my nails. I consider a decent manicure to last a week without chipping/peeling, a decent pedicure at least 3 – 4 weeks. This place meets my standards. The ambience, while not too fancy, is relaxing and quiet. The lighting, though bright, is soothing. The shop is clean. The only thing that kind of irks me is that their pedicures cost $ 18 while a mani/pedi together is $ 20(or something close — on a weekend). Sometimes a girl doesn’t need to get both and I don’t like feeling i’m being shafted by choosing not to get a manicure. But overall this isn’t so awful considering the crappiest nail salons in Manhattan charge at least that price for a pedicure. Thumbs up.

Adamant about getting my nails fixed after even the one that I had fixed needed to fixed again, I was set on wreaking havoc in the salon until they fixed it. I called the salon saying I was coming back and after waiting for my nail technician to be done, she began assessing my nails and told me they used a bad gel. The owner then told me they would fix all my nails at no charge. Seeing as how it was inching toward their closing time, I opted out of the polish part and just asked for the gel to be fixed. The owner told me I could come back tomorrow for a free polish. Although I wish none of this had happened to begin with, the owner was very sympathetic and had all the right business practices. Hopefully this gel set will actually last.

The place is clean Service is OK(they keep pushing you if you want massage at additional cost) Not so good on mani and pedi $ 15.99 during on a Monday(Could have done better myself). She didnt cut my dry skin and just nail filed each of them like ONCE! Is a good price and very close to where i live, but I rather go to Nails Plus on Grand ave instead.
