Yoel Piotraut is the co-​founder and managing partner at MyHome.

Yoel co-​founded MyHome in 2001 having moved to the United States in 1999 after completing his military service in Israel as a officer. He is the eyes and ears of every project at MyHome and is a trusted presence both to clients and to the architects, managers, and contractors who report to him.

Yoel is known for his exceptional attention to organization and his hands-​on approach to management. From the moment a project comes to MyHome to the day it is completed, Yoel is involved in every step of the process. With twelve years of experience behind him, Yoel approaches every project ready to manage a workflow that is efficient, organized, and ultimately successful.

Extremely sloppy and unprofessional as well as non responsive and rude. It took this company a year to finish work on a small one bedroom apartment, because they had to keep fixing things they have done wrong and sloppy while making me feel I was the one dragging the job and adding things for them to do, why would I want to do that? Do not order any doors from them, mine are already peeling off and cracking and it hasn’t even been a year since they were put in. Very low quality products and bad installation. I admit they tried to make it up with compensations and that was nice of them but it did not help the overall terrible experience I had with this company. As a designer and a client I do not recommend MyHome to anyone.

Do not use this Company unless you want to be
ripped off! I called their showroom to ask
If they could do, just the contracting on a
small bathroom without any of their so called
Design Plans and not supplying any of the
materials for the bathroom. I would buy all
the products from my own sources. I was told
by the person I spoke to twice, that they could
definitely do the job and that a ballpark figure
would be between $ 15,000-$ 20,000. I said
fine and made an appointment to meet their
estimator. Keep in mind the bath was only
4’6″ wide by 7′ long. The estimator came, I
gave him all the measurements drawn out exactly for the room so he never even checked anything!
I told him everything that had to be done, he
contributed nothing! I told him before coming
to the job, DO NOT TELL THE CLIENT ANY
PRICES, TILL YOU SPEAK TO ME FIRST, over 5 times, as the Client had a budget! I made it
Crystal Clear! Despite my repeated requests,
he TOTALLY IGNORED MY WISHES and blurted
out $ 100,000. My jaw fell on the floor!!!
I’ve been in the design business for 35 years
and have worked with hundreds of contractors
over the years, although I personally don’t do
the contracting cause I choose not to.
My client was mortified and I knew at that moment, that he held me responsible even
though this was only one of numerous contractors
I had brought to the job. Needless to say, I
lost the job despite the fact that I told the
client that I totally agreed with him and that
the price he quoted was OFF THE WALL!
I called up MH and requested to speak with
the company’s owner, he kept fudging about
how he doesn’t usually speak to customers.
I made it very clear in an angry tone I expected
a call!!! Later I got that call. I found the
owner to be as arrogant as his estimator and
not particularly concerned that I lost the job
because his estimator paid no attention to
my wishes and blurted out a price of$ 100,000.
He finally agreed to call the client to try to
smooth things out for me. HE LEFT A MESSAGE
on his voice mail.
All I can say is BUYERS BEWARE!!!’

MyHome did an amazing job on my kitchen and three closets. I worked with Ben for the Design portion and Matt as my contractor. They were incredibly helpful and always responded to my questions. MyHome handled everything from start to finish, so I never had to worry about anything. I gave Ben a budget and general idea of what I wanted, and he helped me design a kitchen that exceeded my expectations. Ben stayed in my budget and timeline, which is incredible as most places kill you with change orders and delays. The construction crew was extremely professional and kind. My neighbor stopped me in the hall to tell me how impressed he was with the crew. I will be using MyHome when I need more work on my apartment.

MyHome did a great job in my bathroom. They were very professional during the whole process. They came in on the weekend for the first visit and gave me a very detailed estimate for the work I requested. They were very accommodating about every visit after and kept them to a minimum, and worked around my work schedule whenever needed.
I worked with Ben in the beginning. He was very communicative. Responded to my emails very fast and was very helpful during the selection process of the materials.
Peter was the project manager. Also very good at keeping in touch. All changes that were requested by me were done in a timely fashion. Their estimate was 4 – 5 weeks, which turned out to be the case. When i wanted to move back into the apt before the project was fully completed, they managed to accommodate me. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone though. It’s best to stay out during the whole process. A construction site is to be avoided for living purposes whenever possible. :-)
I really love my new bathroom. I will be using MyHome again. Doing a renovation is physically and emotionally exhausting. Having a company that you can trust to do a good job makes this whole process much easier. Highly recommend them.

I did a pretty big renovation, replacing the floors, painting, installing a deck and some work in the kitchen and baths.
MyHome were very professional. It started with the designer who gave us some great ideas. After we signed the contract they took care of all the communication with my building which is a green building and has tons of regulations. They submitted all the required documentations etc.
we met with the designer and project manager at MyHome show room in mid town to chose all the materials which got delivered to their warehouse and then delivered to the apartment when ever required.
Both the Project manager and the workers were very good. always showed up on time and kept the apartment and building very clean.
The projected ended with a slight delay but part of it was our fault asking for changes…
The building management were very impressed and are now recommending them to other tenant.

Our experience with MyHome was incredible. They were extremely responsive, well organized, fast, considerate of our co-​op, and professional. basically all we could ask for! Our kitchen came out ammmmazing. JP was great to work with and was really helpful with picking out finishes and determining the flow of the kitchen. Matthew was also very knowledgeable and helpful! If you’re looking to instal an Ikea kitchen, this is not the contractor for you.

I dropped by their NYC showroom to checkout the product line of cabinets. I was pretty much stopped at the door. The store representative, was rude and didn’t look interested in making a sale. Within 5 minutes of me walking in the store, he explained that I needed to pay for one their designers, I explained to him that I had plans already drafted and wanted to see their product line. He insisted «that’s not the the way it works“‘ — «I have significant overhead costs». Then he proceeded to explain that the designer fee would be absorbed if the costs of the cabinets exceeded a certain amount.
Instead of showing me the product line he just rambled on an on. He never asked about my project, or my budget. (it’s a gut reno of four story floor Queen Anne Brownstone, which needed two kitchens!)
My Home Design lost a HUGE sale! I ended up going to a vendor that sold Siematic cabinets and spending my $$$$ there.
No designer fee.(and if there was one, he was smart enough to work it into the price of the cabinets!)
Spend your money elsewhere.

RENOVATIONS! are always an ALL CAP experience in NYC.
And if you live in a studio apartment with one bathroom, a bathroom renovation could actually ruin your life and eat your soul
I dragged my heels. I procrastinated. I saved up. I finally trusted another woman in my building who has a) impeccable taste and b) doesn’t settle for second best… and she recommended My Home.
From the second I started My Home was great. They didn’t charge a design fee. They measured everything for me. They did multiple walk through’s. When they saw me making design mistakes, they gently nudged me in another direction and were VERY respectful of my budget. They even submitted all the paperwork to my co-​op board. (One hyphenated word for this: AMAZE-​BALLS).
Demo was done in one day. And they left the toilet plugged in every day except for one (we were using our neighbor’s apt, but nothing like using your own toilette in the middle of the night). The worker/​s (usually one or two guys) were very nice. My only complaint was that I think one of the guys was smoking in my apartment and I have asthma. (Actually I know… I saw ashes on my floor). I could have complained and I am sure they would have responded but I did not. That is my bad.
They left the place clean, albeit a touch dusty and every eensy weensy little scratch or flaw I didn’t like, they fixed the following day.
I still think RENOVATIONS! in NYC are an ALL CAP experience but My Home took the life ruination and soul eating out of it. And they have shown that in the right hands Renovations can be an addiction. … now I’m saving up for the kitchen.

Frustrated and dissatisfied. Too many things overlooked, mis handled or falling through the cracks.
We are still in the process of working with this company and have several thousand dollars up front and now we can’t cut bait with out losing it all.
Their «design» process is terrible and slow. Our consultant Lior is not very sharp. Nor is he terribly responsive. We get the feeling that we may not be big enough fish to merit their full attention. There have been (simple to avoid) communication problems between MyHome and our Building Managment that caused weeks/​month delay. And now we have to buy all of our appliances ourselves and store them… I don’t know where… until the cabinets arrive because our designer doesn’t want to deal with it any more. We’ve gone round after round of picking materials at their showroom because our designer either wrote down the wrong item number or showed us something they can no longer get. And persistently leaving things we have specifically asked for off the materials list while pressuring us to sign off.
When were looking to hire a contractor the pitch we got from MyHome was «we’ll take care of everything» but the experience we are having is I’M taking care of everything.
We may still cut them loose and eat close to $ 4,000.00 just to be rid of them.

Sad I even have to give a star! My advice RUN! My pictures are worth a thousand + words.
It took just shy of a full year for a 400 sq. ft studio apt. Garbage (including food garbage) was left in apartment for over 6 months straight! It smelled like someone died in there and I gained some unwanted «pets». Oh did I mention this was upwards of 45K not including the materials such as Granite, appliances, fixtures, cabinetry etc.
I cannot keep this review «PG» so I will not say anything more!

From beginning to end Lior Noy, our design consultant, had our back. We came in knowing exactly what we wanted, but he recommended some terrific products and ideas. When we had problems with our coop, he was right there with us. When our job was finally approved he handed us over to Yoel Piotraut whose construction team made our dream kitchen happen in three weeks!
Even though the work was finished last April, if we find something that needs fixing or adjusting they send someone over right awayt.
I cannot recommend them highly enough.

I would like to share my good experience with MyHome.
growing up in a home where renovations were a constant part of life (those renovations just never seem to end), it took me a long time before I decided to re-​do my kitchen. I was very cautious, suspicious and picky when I just started looking. Luckily — in an early stage of my search I was referred by a good friend to MyHome and to Lior Noy — a designer who works on their behalf. all along the process Lior was there for me, helping and supporting in every possible way. My deepest impression was seeing him handling mistakes (hey — we’re all human after all!) without having them influence the entire process. I was very happy to work with Yoel — the project manager assigned to my renovation. Yoel, as Lior before him — was too very attentive, sensitive and was very helping with his problem solving approach. I’m happy to say that 4 months after starting the whole process — I have a new kitchen that I enjoy using! thank you MyHome! you surely made My home!

4 years ago we made the mistake of choosing My Home Renovations for the gut renovation of our 1 bedroom apt. After the great sell, they certainly failed to deliver. We were disappointed at the time of completion and have since become angrier as years gone by. They didn’t seal off the walls behind the kitchen and bath, leaving gaping holes into the bowels of our 200 unit building – yes, you guessed it, 4 years of rodent problems. The tile in the bathroom is already coming loose and falling off the walls. They failed to «square off» several walls on the interior, so everything looks just a little off, and you would have thought our wood floor was the first floor they ever laid, because the gaps that were noticeable then, are only getting bigger. I was told then by a supervisor that «after a while, the natural dirt and debris that accumulates» will make those gaps less noticeable. We had a pocket door installed, and when it fell out of the wall, the new contractor informed us that MY HOME installed a pocket door, but failed to include the frame to house it in!!! Believe me, we should have fired this contractor and brought a lawsuit. By the time they completed the project they were 4 months past their estimated date for completion and we just wanted them to go AWAY!
Update 2010: the walls came a tumbling down. As the tile began to fall off the bathroom walls and the wood floor continued to separate, it was necessary to have the situation assessed. From the words of the new contractor referencing MY HOME’S work– «criminal!» The bathroom and wood floors all need to be redone. Apparently it is important to know what kind of tile can and cannot be used to pitch a shower floor, $ 1000 toilets should not be cemented into the bathroom floor (cause they need to be broken to have them removed) and wide plank wood floors should be glued and nailed, not just nailed (as that results in movement and creates large gaps). I guess the good news out of this long drawn out nightmare is that there will be little left of MYHOME in my home.

We contracted MyHome (
) to renovate our bathrooms. There were significant delays– a 2 month project took nearly 4 months to complete. Their workmanship was inconsistent and often bad. For example, one wall of our shower was re-​tiled 3 times. One of the main reasons we chose My Home was their code of ethics and their guarantee. Since the completion of our bathrooms, they have returned on numerous occasions to fix problems, and we continue to consistently have problems that arise due to poor original workmanship. They drag their feet in response to everything.
