Manhattan Bridge

When going over to the manhattan side always get stuck in traffic because of the light that is made for the intersection. This is why i tend to stay away from this bridge and drive more on the brooklyn bridge.
I use this bride for mostly train purposes and always get caught in a line trying to enter the bridge. Always here my favorite words «we are delayed because of train traffic ahead»

I think the Brooklyn Bridge is better. Pedestrians «Watch Out» — Bicyclists were really mean and aggressive. I think I will walk the Brooklyn Bridge next.

I love this bridge! Its a great big gray architectural gem that connects Brooklyn to Manhattan. I enjoy each trip over this bridge and love how gray with age.
Good thing about this bridge is that the traffic on it is never too bad, at least when I get to experience it and it serves those in Cars, Trains, and those who walk or bike.
What makes this bridge stand out from the other NYC bridges is the Arch & Colonnade on the Manhattan side. Although its sort of neglected it has a certain charm to it. Unlike other bridges this bridge and arch area is covered in graffiti and littered with homeless which makes it OG NYC.
Unlike all the flashy tourist attractions/​traps this bridge is just a silent attraction which has been around for over a century and serves its purpose well.

I’ve driven this over 50x & have taken the Q or B train over it daily for last 3 years so I know it all too well & it’s nearly always a pleasure. It gracefully & efficiently serves a crucial connection. Unlike lesser crossings which even underwater ones have just 1 – 3 lines on them, this big boy has 6 subway lines over it and still has room for 6 lanes of traffic on 2 levels & the very popular biking/​walking path on BOTH sides. That’s in addition to the generous view lines from all modes of it which are beautiful as it’s just at a great bend, near the famously perfect Brooklyn Bridge ones and able to see all the way up into Queens. The height & grace of the bridge’s form are pleasing even when in a rush on commutes. The traffic is aways better than that of the nearby Brooklyn Bridge, especially on weekends when it seems there’s a rush for the Bk Br yet most forget about this one. Fine with me!

I’m a fan of the Manhattan bridge over the Brooklyn Bridge.
I’ve only ever driven the bridge so I cannot talk about the scenic views. But the drive whenever I have taken it (Quite often) is usually so pleasant and freeing.
No crazy construction or traffic. I usually cross from one side to the other in under 3 minutes whereas the BK Bridge takes a minimum of 7 minutes and they both kind of take you to the same place. Brooklyn or Manhattan.
I think it’s also because there is an upper and lower roadway which gives inbound to NYC cars a lot more roadway. Hence the less traffic.
I also liked the Manhattan bridge for the trains it caters to. N R B Q D not sure if I’ve missed some.
Definitely a pleasure crossing this bridge when I get the chance to.

Its a shame that the city of NY has neglected this beautiful landmark. Completely forgotten and neglected structure that is rusting away. I am sorry but where are our tax dollars being used and why is nobody doing anything about? Oddly enough the bridge is not even guarded. Where as the Brooklyn bridge is full of cops that are guarding it 24hrs, whats not to say the Manhattan bridge should be provided with the same level of security. I know this Manhattan bridge is loud because you have trains and cars running on different tracks and level of the bridge. I dare to say that the views from the bridge are far better than Brooklyn bridge.

The Manhattan Bridge is often ignored in favor of its more famous sister to the south. Yeah, it isn’t as iconic as the Brooklyn Bridge, but the Manhattan Bridge still has a lot to offer.
One, its views are just as great as the Brooklyn Bridge, including some wonderful views of the Brooklyn Bridge. In addition, you also get some nice views of the streets of Chinatown.
Two, the pedestrian walkway is not as crowded as the Brooklyn Bridge.
There is one section that is so full of graffiti that you wonder if you had fallen into a time warp to the 70s. Depending on your point of view, this is either coolly retro, or unsightly. I tend to go for the former, but that’s just my opinion.
Also, the subways run by the walkway, and when a train rolls by, you will feel the bridge shake. And the traffic sounds can be loud. On the Brooklyn Bridge, you are above the traffic, and it doesn’t seem as noisy.
I’ve only driven on the Manhattan Bridge a few times. It’s not great, but it isn’t bad either.
But, all-​in-​all, it is a nice connector between Chinatown & DUMBO, and the walk across is pleasant on a nice day.

I walked across this bridge from Brooklyn back to Manhattan at the advice of a tour guide in the new Trade Center tower. I don’t recommend it.
First, if you’re scared of heights, it’s definitely not for you as if you look down, you can see the gushing river below. At least with the Brooklyn Bridge of you look straight down, you can’t see water.
Second, the walking path is literally right next to the subway tracks and a train comes through every 10 – 15 seconds, which is loud and makes the whole bridge shake. It’s not a pleasant enjoyable walk.
Third, there’s a lot of graffiti and trash on the bridge and once you get to the Manhattan side, it’s in a bad area.

Unfortunately it plays second fiddle to the Brooklyn bridge in romantic image, but this bridge is a work horse and deserved appreciation.

I like this bridge. Really, it holds a special place in my heart. But you’ve gotta be careful on this bridge. Seriously there are some shady characters and I wouldn’t walk on it at sunset even with people. My fiancé proposed a second time (this time with a real ring, long story). He thought the Brooklyn Bridge would be too crowded. Sweet idea. Until we thought we were getting mugged by quite possibly the scariest looking guy I have seen close up. Pretty much the scariest moments of our lives. I thought I was going to have my engagement ring for a world record of 5 seconds. Just my luck, I thought. Finally engaged and I’m dead within minutes.
Thanks to ignoring the comments, someone else walking by, and walking furiously fast saying Hail Marys the entire way, I’m happy to say we and the ring made it over the bridge.
The area across the bridge in Bklyn is very dangerous. Be careful.

The Manhattan Bridge often offers a quicker way to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan and vice versa than the Brooklyn Bridge. It is not a pretty bridge and only decorated at one end (after it was built Brooklyn didn’t have the political clout to demand a fancy archway like Manhattan did) but it is functional carrying rail, car, bike and foot traffic across the river. It also offers great views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge and the Stature of Liberty.

Great bridge to avoid crowds.
If you are like me and want to get to from A to B in a quick and timely manner then this is the bridge for you. I much rather prefer this bridge over the Brooklyn bridge for my treks into the Brooklyn. Yeah, yeah, we all know the Brooklyn is the bridge that is most associated with NYC. However, the Manhattan Bridge will get you to the same spot (more or less) as the Brooklyn bridge without all of the drama.
The Brooklyn bridge, due to its popularity, is ALWAYS full of tourists taking selfies, cyclists, and regular everyday folk, making it very hard to cross.
So if you are visiting NYC give the Manhattan Bridge a chance. .. it is a very lonely bridge. You could walk the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn then take the Manhattan Bridge into Manhattan — a direct route into Chinatown and the Lower East side.

Less popular than the Brooklyn Bridge, but arguably a better (?) view of Manhattan. I mean, both views are great but the view you get from the Manhattan Bridge is a bit more unique. The bridge starts off in Manhattan near Chinatown and ends in Brooklyn… well in Brooklyn.
The entrance to the Manhattan Bridge on both sides is pretty nondescript, and I wouldn’t be caught dead here alone when it’s late at night. The bridge is concrete (not wood like the Brooklyn Bridge) and has a lot of interesting graffiti. Both the Brooklyn and Manhattan sides of the bridge cross through some neighborhoods and also you get a nice bird’s eye view of some neighborhoods.
The NQR trains run through here and right on the side of the pedestrian crossing so it does get pretty loud. Overall, if you want a nice stroll without a million tourists or crazy bikers, I’d walk this bridge rather than the Brooklyn Bridge.

I’ve never found a woman’s hat on this bridge. I’ve been across here so many times and yet, no, not a single female hat. I don’t know why. Honestly, it irks me. I feel like, by now, I should have found one. But nope. Nary a single female hat. However, I have — on several occasions — found a «Man Hat On Bridge.» In fact, that is how this bridge got it’s name.
Speaking of a man hat, I just met a super cute guy tonight, does anyone happen to have a spare Trojan or Durex? I’m not picky. About anything. Ever. A party balloon will do. Just give me something stretchy please. Quick.

I’ve crossed this bridge probably 50 times in my life, and every single crossing was in a car which I, myself, was driving. My ex may have driven nme over this bridge once or twice, I really don’t remember. The most recent time was about 3 months ago. I’ll be crossing it again in a week or two. I won’t lie. I absolutely love crossing this bridge. It’s a rush.

Crossing NY bridges is an orgasmic experience. For some, maybe literally. For me, it’s a figurative way of enlightening those who have not «done it» so to speak, to the rush, the adrenaline, the awe-​inspiring grandeur, the surreal and astounding visual spectacle of the vista before you, on every side, as you climb up to the sky, and then descend down into the belly of a completely different borough. «Welcome To Brooklyn» it says, the home of the real NYC. Or «Welcome To Manhattan» perhaps, the greatest tourist mecca on the planet. Whichever way you are heading on the Manhattan Bridge, you can’t lose.

By the way, you will especially enjoy crossing this bridge if you are circumcized. Because then not only can you get your Manhat On, you can show your Manhat Off. Sadly I am unable to do this.
First of all, you should know that this bridge is free. It is a toll-​free way to drive, cycle or walk from Manhattan to Brooklyn (just like the older Brooklyn and Williamsburg bridges) and for that reason alone it deserves 5 stars. Then you have the amazing views from either side of the bridge, especially of the financial district of Manhattan which looks surreal, stunning and spectacular, night or day, from this bridge.
You know who was named after this bridge? I just found out. Manhat-​ma Gandhi. I’m still Sikh about him getting shot. All he was trying to do was lead his people Hindu the modern era in peace.
Speaking of Taj Mahal, would you like to Taj Mahal? I’m not a look but don’t taj kinda guy. You can definitely taj. I would be Delhited if you would do so. Yeah I know you’re hanging out with your Mum today. Just tell your Mumbai and come see me.
This bridge has a ton of amazing graffiti that covers parts of this bridge. Some people say it’s an eyesore. I say it’s quintessential New York City and it makes the bridge better. Some say this bridge is hard to drive or cycle across. I say it’s great that it has a cycle lane, and it’s easier to drive over this bridge than some of the others in the area (such as Brooklyn).
Oh did anyone see that Denzel movie, «The Manhattian Candidate.» It was a remake apparently. Speaking of remake, do you wanna see me remake my Manhat an impressive size again?
The only negative comment I have about the Manhattan Bridge, is that there is so much metal that the amazing views on all sides are very distorted and hidden. For the most part you just see fleeting glimpses of the heavenly vistas. I wish you could «see more.» But you can see enough. With views like this, and two of the greatest places in the world on either side (Manhattan and Brooklyn), and the fact that it is free to cross… I don’t know how it can not be a five star bridge. Bravo to NYC for keeping it free, too.
Anyway if you hate men this bridge is for you. Maybe that’s why I like it so much. You can say whatever you like about the Manhatin’ Bridge but one thing is for sure. It’s perfect for Manhatin’.

One of the few bridges I’ve left to bike in this fair city (if it even is a bike-​able bridge). Whether or not it can be biked, this is arguably the most picturesque bridge that NYC has to offer. Fantastic cityscape photos can be taken from either borough (NY or Kings); from the hulking Triumph Arch to the über iconic Manhattan Bridge overpass.
From a subway commuter’s perspective, this bridge serves as a brief reprieve for Q/​R train commuters, and the time out from under the ground allows for subway goers to briefly catch up on the news, social media, or send quick SMS messages. I would say that you would have somewhere in the area of 5 minutes to accomplish this; heck, I once started, finished, and posted a Unilocal review on this bridge after I had attended the Calexico Elite Event in Brooklyn… all this was done in efforts to be the «First to Review», but alas, I was number two (and they don’t give badges for those).
From a driver’s perspective, this bridge is the embodiment of a monstrosity of metal. Basically dual-​layered, adamantium connective tissue between NYC’s Chinatown and the area just due south of Hipster Central. I’m glad I’ve never been burdened with the duty of guiding a car across this bridge, as the poor soul stuck with the driving, whoever it has been, seemed super stressed out whenever tasked with the job to deliver myself and others from Point A to Point B.
All in all, she’s a beauty from afar, and perhaps it’s best to leave it at that. Once you’re up close (literally in the belly of this beast), the admiration towards her and the mystique attributed to her may not come out intact… so simply relegate yourself as an admirer from a distance.

Great views of the bridge along the East River, that segways into the Financial District area. Also great views of the Brooklyn Bridge, as the two are rather close to each other. At night time the area is peaceful and quiet, spacious and a great path for running.

While the Brooklyn bridge is a bridge for tourists, the Manhattan bridge is definitely one for residents, along with the Williamsburg bridge. Why?
1. Separation of bike and walking lanes
2. Subway wise, the superior route to and from Brooklyn, skipping the financial district entirely!
A bittersweet moment was when the hurricane threw the Montague Tubes out of service — while it cost millions to fix, it also meant that the R train crossed the bridge as well, and that the N train crossed it at all hours, rather than snaking 5 or 6 stops down past Canal St before hitting Brooklyn.
I know that’s selfish compared to people who need the service to the FiDi, but come on: there’s already SO MUCH redundant subway service to that part of town. Y’all would be able to deal.
As a parting note, the bridge also has value for tourists because you obviously can’t take a picture of the whole Brooklyn Bridge while standing on it. But from the Manhattan bridge? You’re good!

Somehow I was convinced to walk to Brooklyn after eating in Chinatown via the Manhattan bridge. Initially, it seemed like an ok feat and I accomplished it but I think doing it once in life is plenty. Lots of graffiti everywhere but it did have some incredible views. The subway whizzes loudly pass you probably a dozen times. Must say I’m pretty proud of myself.

From a distance it can be admired with grace and strength.
From up-​close it is grotesque and graffiti infested.
Manhattan Bridge is not as densely populated with pedestrians or bicyclists as Brooklyn Bridge. Walking path is on the outer edge of the bridge which the view of the arch is obstructed. The walk is refreshing and revival to the spirit. This bridge needs a lot of work for cleanup. Subways: N and Q trains travels on this bridge.
Starting from Manhattan side to Brooklyn it takes you to DUMBO = Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass.

This is one of my favorite bridges because it’s short and it takes you from one fun city to the other :)
The driving surrounding the bridge can be very confusing since right outside the hedge the main st: Canal is closed making you take the long route to time square.

Un peu moins séduisant esthétiquement que son voisin de Brooklyn, il reste que pour prendre une belle photo de ce dernier, le pont du Manhattan Bridge reste un référence.
Il faut bien choisir son emplacement ceci dit car quasiment de tout son long il est constitué d’un grillage. En arrivant de Chinatown, car c’est de là que ce fait son départ, la petite astuce est d’apercevoir ce petit espace juste avant d’atteindre le pylôné avec rien pour cacher le panorama.
Séparés en deux par une voie ferré destiné à la ligne de métro E, une rame d’ailleurs bien bruyante qui force à se boucher les oreilles lorsqu’il déambule.
On voit quand même beaucoup moins de monde circulé à pied et vélos sur ce pont ce qui lui confère une tranquillité de balade plus aisé.
