Langan’s Pub & Restaurant

Great location in the center of the theater district. Very close to Icon parking, which was important on this very rainy day. Nice atmosphere and well priced Sunday brunch.

(2.5 stars) I used to be a big fan of Langan’s as it was a great spot to grab a relatively quick, sit-​down meal before a show. After a few years though, I think it has lost a bit of its edge. The food is still enjoyable, just very average now and not worth the Times Square premium. Given the plethora of options around the area, you may want to try getting a reservation somewhere else first.
When I first tried their Mac and cheese, it was infectious: rich, creamy, different, and you just had to get the large. Now, its still a staple and it’s still rich, but it’s one-​note and just above average. After the first few bites, you pretty much get the picture.
The chicken curry had promise and it surely wasn’t bad but it just felt sloppy. The dish seemed like each part was prepared separately and then just added together at the end, as evidence by the rice and potatoes being served atop the chicken, sauce, and vegetables. For most dishes, that would be fine but for a curry, not so much. The pieces of chicken were too large and didn’t have any inherent flavor from the curry. The peppers were watery and seemed like they were cooked and tossed in separately. I did though enjoy the sauce itself and wish there was more of it. The meal overall is hearty and filling, just somewhat underwhelming.

We stopped here with time to kill before our drag show/​dinner reservations, starving and needing a quick bite. Our group of 8 people were easily seated at a few high tops in the bar and got our drinks pretty quickly. We ordered fries (good), garlic bread (very good) and calamari (fine). It’s a cute location, much bigger than you’d expect, and the staff is friendly, I only drank water so I’m not sure of the prices, but it was busy and they handled the crowds very well.

Food was mediocre but nice staff and wasn’t crowded after theater let out. I wish Irish restaurants would play Irish music!

The good thing is, this place doesn’t seem to be full of tourists. They have bars at the front and proper dining area at the back.
The food is hit or miss. My Langan Burger is good. Medium rare with pink in the center. So thick and juicy, and with big slice of pickle and onions, it’s almost impossible to get a clean bite with all the layers. I ended up eating with knife and fork half way. The fries are good, wonderfully crispy.
The Chicken Curry is a disappointment. It is under Irish Traditional Entrée in the menu, which made me raised my perfectly shaped eyebrows. The curry tastes like curry powder mixed with water. The Chicken cuts are obviously not cooked with the curry because they are all dry and tasteless, and fries with curry just tastes wrong.
The service is not as friendly. The lady who ushered us in and gave us the check doesn’t smile at all. The tables are close to each other so you won’t get much privacy to share earth shattering gossips amongst your dining companions.
I won’t purposely come here again but if you’re hungry and want to escape the throngs of tourists, this place can fill you up. If you know what to order.

Nice Pub, with an Irish theme and even some Irish Staff… The food was nothing to rave about though. floury salt and pepper squid, fatty roast lamb (everyone got well done even though we were all asked how we wanted it) OK Salmon. Though, the BBQ Chicken Wings were nice and tasty.

Waiter was attentive.Food.was really good. Thier burgers are huge! I had Gealic Chicken with Mushrooms in a Irish Crème sauce… YUM!!! Manager greeted a nd took time to converse with us. Very Irish… very friendly.

Not only have I experienced better but I’ve also not been ripped off too. I’m used to high prices but don’t talk me into having a bottle of the new beer bottle from Sam Adams and screw me on the price.
Service was below sub par. If you’re not behind the bar to help, get out from behind the bar.
With plenty of places very much like this bar in the area except better service and everything else going for it I won’t be running back for a bigger rip off.

Very enjoyable. We went here before a show and my wife’s sandwich and my fish and chips were great. The fries were truly special. I would have eaten 2 portions.

My dad and I were walking back from the nbc studio when we walked by this restaurant and it looked good so we decided to grab some takeout for lunch. We were greeted by the hostess (I think her name was Grace she was tall) she was very friendly and helpful the whole time we were there. We ordered and sat down next to the bar and the hostess came over again and took our silverware which wasn’t necessary but kind! A waiter walked over and filled our water glasses and we just ordered sodas while we waited, Coke was a little watered down. Wait wasn’t too long and the food was good! I just got the kids chicken fingers and my dad the angus sliders which he thought were just okay but he ate the whole thing! If I ever visit New York again I will definitively be back!

The lobster ravioli is WONDERFUL! Unexpected for an Irish Pub but I would definitely have it again.
The atmosphere is great and the service was wonderful.
We did not try a dessert but saw some come out and they all looked fabulous!
I would definitely return!

Super nice pub really bad bad slow service. The bartender doesn’t even attend the far right side of the bar. The live music is really good however prices are a little on the high side. Guess that’s because it’s off of Times Square.

Stopped into Langan’s after attending a holiday service up at St. Thomas Church as this is a spot that my friend enjoys and he was covering the check as a holiday present. I originally thought I had been here but alas had not. This was a busy Sunday night so the front, bar space was loaded with patrons enjoying the football game and we went to the back dining room. It was crowded but that is to be expected during the holidays and especially of a place that is right near all the theaters.
One situated a couple of glasses of wine were ordered but no appetizers and instead only entrees. My friend had a chicken ceasar salad while I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap (which came with a small amount of french fries). The food came rather quickly which was a pleasant surprise and most importantly tasted very good. There are a number of dishes that they serve that I would like to try so I will keep this place in mind when in the immediate vicinity and looking for a pub space that has a nicer restaurant side to it. So many are just tables near the bar and that is not always the optimum choice depending on who you are with. You don’t want to shout over the football game after all. We opted for dessert and my friend went with the bread pudding which he raved about while I had some sort of brownie and ice cream configuration which was a slice of decadent heaven. Both were recommendations across the board.,
The staff was very friendly which was nice to experience and they made sure all was set and in good order for our time there. I cannot imagine how hard it is to do this task in a city like NYC. There is a free WiFi signal so one can send their food photos right up to Facebook or better yet Foodspotting like I do. I will def come here again when its a needed kind of spot. Hope you have a similar experience like my own when you stop in.

I used to go to Langan’s once a week for a little while, mainly because it was a cheap and because we had an amazing cocktail during the happy hour the first time we tried going there.
But, in the end, you rarely get to sit, as the place is often and rapidly crowded. Service ok for NYC. And they could not make the amazing cocktail we had a second time, which was slightly disappointing. So I guess we got bored of this place after a while.
Nevertheless, I recommend going there and seeing for yourself! Being in an Irish bar means that you can always order Guinness if you are not inspired. And the music is fine.

From the outside, I thought this place was going to be a smelly overpriced pub near times square. When I got inside, I was surprised with how pretty the bar area was, it almost looks like something out of a movie. The bar area was pretty packed for 2 pm on a Saturday but then again it’s right near times square. Me and my friend sat at one of the hightop bar tables and we sat for a while before we realized no one comes over to take your order or give you menus — kind of awkward. Eventually I ordered the pink broadway lady which was really good. We were kind of hungry and ended up getting the spinach artichoke dip for an app which was served luke warm borderline cold. We asked them to reheat it and they ended up making us a whole new one which was nice and the second time it was served hot. I wasn’t a huge fan of the small amount of bread slices that come on the side for dipping — there wasn’t enough pieces so we ended up not being able to finish all the dip because we had nothing to dip in it.
Overall, it was a good experience with a local looking crowd. Some of the prices were a bit high, but considering it’s proximity to times square they weren’t unreasonable. I would return next time I’m in the area and want a quick drink.

First and foremost, I love Terri!!! And this is the spot to go to when «de-​stressing» is your goal. Furthermore, if you haven’t been to Langan’s in a minute, you should pop in… Terri looks more amazing than usual. #Cheers

With so many great restaurants in New York City, Langan’s near Times Square falls short in terms of quality and taste.
Langan’s specializes in Irish food, but they also serve a hodgepodge of cuisines like Italian and American. I got the Linguine and Clams. The plate had tiny little neck clams over a bed of linguine, and mixed in with leeks, roasted garlic, and white wine sauce. There was a big piece of bread on top. Nothing special about the dish at all… The pasta was unfortunately overcooked and tasted a bit mushy in my mouth. The clams were too small to really give off any rich flavors. The piece of bread tasted slightly stale as well.
My friend got the traditional Irish entrée, the Gaelic Chicken. The thinly pounded pieces of chicken were drenched in Irish whiskey mushroom cream sauce (looked super rich and heavy) with mashed potato on the side. The dish was not visually appealing at all. In fact, it looked like dog food… no offense to my friend who ate it.
I think Langan’s can definitely improve on its presentation and flavor of the food.

I came here with my good friend, Jamie about 4 months ago since his office is very close to this restaurant. We came around 8:30 on a Thursday and there was a good amount of guests here. The lemonade was okay, hardly had any sugar so I added it myself but ended up putting too much. We have burgers and salads which were good. It looks like a good place for families since they have a separate dining room for that and a few children were here with parents. I wouldn’t come back unless he asked me to.

Langan’s was a savior for us at the end of an almost 100 degree day. We jumped on the recommendation from our hotel staff (they go there after work) of this place just two doors down from our hotel (please no more walking, 20K steps is enough!).
Its small, but not too small, warm and inviting décor and polite and patient staff.
Bonus for a nice, clean restroom (that seemed to be very hard to find in NYC).
The place was not crowded at all at 8pm on a Sunday night, which I was happy to see since it is so close to Times Square (and I was pretty tired of the constant crowds. People everywhere. Everywhere.)
We were immediately seated in a nice corner high top table in the back and had our drinks very soon after ordering. As we were very hungry, we over-​ordered, but were glad to have too much instead of not enough. The Mac-​n-​Cheese is in fact amazing; a big compliment coming from a cheese-​loving-​Midwesterner. I chose the small with nothing added, and it could’ve easily been a meal. My counterpart ordered the Crab Dip and devoured it as quickly as I did my Mac-​n-​Cheese. By the time my fish and chips landed on the table I was pretty satisfied… but I of course still continued to eat. The fries were delightful, but the breading on the fish was a little weird for me, so I ended up picking the fish out of the breading.
All-​in-​all it was a nice dinner and a pleasant way to end our NYC vacation. When we come back for another visit, Langan’s will be on our to-​do list.

Sometimes all you want is Midtown cheese. And Langan’s, even being that close to Broadway, has some of the best. «Midtown cheese” – touristy, at least $ 10 for a decent drink and nothing speakeasy or New American about it – is a term I use lovingly, as I’ve had many a drink, many a laugh, many a standard-​fare appetizer, many a free kamikaze shot (thanks to Unilocal) and even, dare I say, spent one helluva Christmas Eve many years ago, at the comfortable bar at Langan’s.
That cliché-​crying-​in-​my-​martini Christmas Eve was Eddie’s fault. Always blame the fabulously-​attentive and truly Irish bartender when you get swept away with stiff martini after stiff martini. Throw in an even stiffer Long Island and most people would be done. But my sister and I were inadvertently mourning the then-​recent loss of our father, so no matter how much we tried, we couldn’t get drunk – a useful side effect of grief. Eddie tried too (to get us drunk), and proudly served us his custom-​made green and creamy concoction surprisingly named, «the Eddie,» which was actually delicious and extremely potent, but didn’t mix well with what we’d already drank.
I won’t bore you with the embarrassing details that immediately followed, just know that I hesitated to leave Langan’s that night. And not because of Eddie’s fun-​loving service, the warmth of glowing bar, effortlessly strewn with holiday spirit, the happy vibe that I’ve felt all year around at Langan’s, or the cushiony bar stools that make you feel like staying all night, but just because I felt I was leaving a piece of me.
Since that fateful Christmas Eve, I’ve been back but only occasionally, and for whatever reason, kept missing Eddie. My sister had gone to Langan’s recently and told me that Eddie asked about me. So off I went in January and unfortunately, so did he before I made my way back.
Another bartender stood in his place. A very good one. Not Eddie, but still quick, attentive, ready, willing, and able to serve alcohol and food with a smile, make suggestions, and have lite conversation. Of course I couldn’t help but be disappointed having never forgotten Eddie’s 5-​star pours and unknowing kindness, just because.
Regarding the décor, food, and service, Langan’s was still the same, of course, and forever having that piece of my heart, I hope it always will be.
