LES may not be the heart of NY art, but behind those piles of trash bags, there is a small, soulful gallery so good, it’s almost hidden for those who really look.
I came here to look at some of Jordan Eagles’ works for a class project because I wanted to see his controversial work for myself and just the thought of using animal blood as art is just astounding. And indeed it was overall a very pleasing experience, especially if you take a closer look at the art, you would’ve never known actual blood was used. There is a basement of more displays, which is pretty cool that they trust you enough to have the basement all to yourself! The exhibit itself was beautiful, raw and most of all, very substantive. You really have to understand the whole purpose and concept of the artist before you look at their work and immediately get the wrong idea.
Jordan Eagles is definitely one of those artists that can easily «wow» you – copper seems to be predominant material in his work, which is why there is so much «shimmer» reflects. This gallery is a true gem in the LES and showcases some of the finest avant-​gardes of our time; it’s very, very small but a gallery, nonetheless.
