I wanted to get my hair dyed a bit lighter color since this place is pretty cheap for a salon. I’ve been here a couple times but never have I colored my hair at this place before. When coloring my hair I expected something lighter but instead my hair turned into a brassy orange brown I was really disappointed.
I also had my hair trimmed and I saw the person who was doing my hair trimmed 2 inches off my hair even though I only wanted a trim but I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be rude or anything. After my cut and going home I realized my cut was not even at all for instance in the frount part of my hair there was this section and it was 2 and a half inches shorter than the rest of my hair! And then I checked the other side of my hair and I saw how the hair just overlapped each other it wasn’t even close to layering or anything like that. It took probably only 5 minutes and they didn’t even go over it either.
While in the store there was this lady who complained how the colors didn’t actually reach some parts of the hair. I don’t really know much mandarin so I couldn’t fully understand what they were saying. But she was sectioning off her hair and showing the places the color didn’t reach.
I would probably not reccomend going to this place.

After fulfilling my hotpot craving after the blizzard, I came across this hair salon due to the poster board display outside. Seeing the cheap prices, I dragged my boyfriend in there for a haircut since it was long over due. It was only $ 6 for a regular haircut for a guy so why not since his hair grows fast anyway.
I figured since I’m going with him, I’d should get something basic like a hair wash to company him without having to just sit there. Since it was just a hairwash, I didn’t have to wait and was immediately welcomed in to the back section. After laying my head down on the washing sink, the lady asked kindly if the water was too hot and I replied that it was just right. She started lathering with shampoo and just scratching the sides of my head. I was expecting a short head massage as you would in any hair salon, but she didnt. She rinsed my hair and then started applying a second round of shampoo. So in my head, I was thinking «ok she’ll probably do so now.» Nope it didn’t happen. After rinsing the shampoo out, she applied some conditioner and just rinsed it out. She seats me in the styling chair and starts blowing drying my hair. As my hair was getting closer to being dry, I was hoping she’s fix my hair line and at least ask me how I want my hair to be. Unfortunately, I was disappointed once again. She just blew dry it recklessly and said «OK, I’m done.» My hair looked like a mess and it wasn’t completely dried. I was just so dissatisfied that I just gave her the $ 8 plus $ 2 tips and left. Horrible service and there are definately better options.
Even though, I had a bad experience here, I still think it is a salon more suitable for males and older generation mandarin speaking crowd. For the price, I guess the quality is not assured to be good.

I am writing this review as I wait for my two male friends getting a haircut. You get what you paid for.

This place is a solid meh.

I was really shocked no one has written a review on Kissena Salon, as I’ve walked by this place for years. As far as I can tell, this is definitely the cheapest place in Flushing for a wash, cut, and blow dry: a measly 12 bucks. This is a pretty bare-​bones salon. There are almost no products on the counters except for a couple bottles of Tresemme (which you can pick up at a drugstore yourself for $ 5) hairspray. It seems like mostly males come here, and I saw three men doing all the cutting. I’m not sure what dialect of Chinese they speak, but I had a hard time understanding them. They don’t speak a word of English, so if you don’t speak Mandarin, I might think twice about coming here.
I started off with a bad impression because the guy cutting my hair applied Chinese menthol balm to his nose/​mouth area with his finger before proceeding to handle my freshly shampooed hair. Then I was annoyed because this woman was having a very involved conversation with the guy cutting my hair for the first 20 minutes, but eventually she left. Like I said, I had a difficult time communicating with the guy despite being able to speak Mandarin fairly well, but he turned out to be pretty nice. He spent a good 40 minutes perfecting my cut, stopping occasionally to ask me my opinion. It actually turned out pretty cute, so maybe I’ll head back next time I just need to take off a few inches.
Bottom line: if you’re looking for a basic trim without the bells and whistles, and if you don’t mind the slightly (typical) unprofessional Chinese mannerisms, this place might be worth checking out. I’m happy to be rid of my split ends, and I definitely walked out looking better than I did going in.
