Eri has been cutting my hair now for several months and he has excellent scissors over comb skill. I’m also impressed with how honest he is as far as what will look great. His technique is on point and I highly recommend him. He is a great hair stylist at this Jeffrey Stein location.

I’ve been coming to this salon for over 5 years and I live in the Hudson valley and I will make the trip here because the work is just so amazing. I only book with Yolanda cause she is a hair whisperer. Every time I’ve gone in I have a picture with me and Yolanda always makes me look, in my opinion, better than the picture I showed her. She always goes over what she’s doing and why she does a certain technique (ombré, highlights, etc). Yolanda goes above and beyond to make sure I’m happy with what I have done and if I could give her 100 stars I would.

I just had a great experience with Jeffrey Stein Salon — 495 Columbus Ave, and I recommend their services. I love using ajere she is creative talented and does a beautiful job. She always goes the extra mile to make sure you are happy and look wonderful.

I recently moved to the city and needed to find a new salon. I checked out Jeffrey Stein Salon and was blown away! The staff was friendly, accommodating and experienced. Mary was my stylist and she gave me exactly what I asked for. I am so happy with my cut and color and highly recommend this salon! Thank you so much. :)

I live nearby and had walked by many times but already had a great hairdresser. Unfortunately, he moved to another state so I was forced to begin shopping for a hair stylist. I am very picky, which I’m certain comes across when I enter a salon. They were very nice and approachable at Jeffrey Stein and really worked with my busy schedule to find a time that would work well. Alex cut my hair and gave me a beautiful, very professional cut. I went back 3 weeks later for color. He once again did a very beautiful job with a combination of highlights and a glaze. He did exactly what I asked, but also offered his opinions as to what he thought best. I will be going back. As for price, what can I say. I live on the UWS. Nothing is all that cheap there at any salon. After searching many places in the ‘hood, I found the prices at Jeffrey Stein to be right on track for the normal.

Manal once again made me a fabulous haircut. She knows how to work all kinds of hair and particularly my full head of curls. They take great care of me at the Columbus ave & 84 st salon!

I got a horrible and really expensive haircut. I am very unhappy. My stylist was Eric he was really awkward and barely communicated until the end when he was having trouble doing what I asked and spent about 2 hours on my hair which was just a trim and gave me really bad side bangs. I highly recommend not going. It’s not worth the price. The place is not even nicely decorated. I’m very disappointed

I absolutely LOVED my experience and Jeffrey Stein salon. Michelle took excellent care of my color, making my blonde look beachy but clean. Arthur gave me the most fabulous cut — it’s effortlessly sexy and super easy to manage. I’m on the go, travel often and need hair that will look good without work. Thanks to both of them, as well as the friendly staff and assistants. I highly recommend having the team start your spring and summer look asap! You will not regret!

absolute joke & super expensive! I came to get my hair cut in layers and thats all i wanted. The stylist only trimmed my ends and curled the ends of my hair. When i asked her if she knew what she was doing and she kept insisting that she did. Not happy with the results. The bill was $ 63 for a trim!

I’ve had cuts/​dyes from both Yolanda and Sergio and the two of them are the most amazing people. Both in their skills and personalities.
Yolanda is so sweet and helps you really make sure you are getting what you want. Both by hearing your suggestions and making helpful ones of her own. Sergio is the absolute funniest and during the whole cut had me laughing and so excited about the result. I was so happy with both of them. Love them both! Never been disappointed!
My dad goes here too and see’s Yolanda for his hair and also loves it.

The worst customer service I have experienced in a long time, especially considering the fact that Jeffrey Stein Salons carries a well quality image and is on the typical NYC haircut price range; meaning not too cheap. So, one should be able to expect receiving the matching service.
First and foremost I guess it’s necessary to point out that I am a hairdresser myself, trained in Europe. I never like to make that point when going to get my hair done, knowing myself how much more pressure one feels. So I did not tell the gentleman who cut my hair today. Upon arriving the mood was awkward and very impersonal and a bit rude. I was asked what I would like to have done and I told the gentleman cutting my hair trimmed and layered, he barely looked at my hair and sent me off to washing. Sorry, but if a hairdresser has never seen you he should kinda take a closer look, not every hair is the same. It felt like one of those cut-​and-​go places. As he started cutting (not ever was I offered a water/​coffee which is a pretty standard thing) I watched his all over the place cutting and rushing through it quickly without organization and concentration. At some point I felt he had cut too much but didn’t say anything because «too late». When he moved to the opposite site and cut less I started to get concerned but still didn’t say anything. Suddenly he started blow drying, not for a second was I asked how I wanted my styling or if it was ok or if any adjustments were needed… I guess he felt very confident … I let it go … The shorter side became pretty apparent so I finally built up the courage to say something. Unfortunately he did not agree to what I had to say and became quite defensive. Since I’m really not all that great at making my voice heard when being an unsatisfied customer I must’ve given leverage to arguing the point of needing to thin my top layer. I am sorry to say, but when cutting a bob you have to layer it ALL the way through. Thinning the top layer is a last resort to cover a mistake when having cut only one thick layer. I know my hair for 32 years now, it is thick, but when cut and layered properly it absolutely does not need thinning. Regardless, the coworker after a back and forth then proceeded to tell me that it isn’t all that noticeable. So are they agreeing now that it is cut improperly? So, this goes to show that customer satisfaction and trying to achieve a flawless result isn’t on the list of priorities. I asked him if that was really what he thinks he should say to a customer. At that point the gentleman who cut my hair flipped out, yelled at me that I don’t have to pay, but to get out of there! Sure enough I grabbed my things and left as the rest of the customers was watching the scene.
Sorry, but working as a manager in customer service this is not how you treat them, no matter what. If I had been entitled acting or yelling or insulting or threatening I kind of would understand a reaction like that, but no, on the contrary. All I wanted was to leave a place that I put my trust of altering something in my personal space in their hands in the hopes I would leave happy and comfortable feeling. Unfortunately, now I am running around, checking myself in every mirror I walk by, trying to find somebody who can fix this without having to sacrifice any more of my length.
Needless to say, I will not return … Too bad I have to walk by there every single day …

I’ve received the worst haircut of my life at this establishment 2 months ago. Normally I wouldn’t even bother leaving a review when I receive a bad service but this place gave me the worst service I’ve ever experienced in a salon.
The hair «stylist» that «styled» /​cut my hair was named Alex. He started off his process by arguing with the shampooer. Yelling at her for using as what he thought was too much conditioner on my hair. The lady BARELY even put any conditioner which made combing my wet hair, which is naturally thin and easy to comb, a nightmare. He yanked my hair here and there and had a diva fit. He continued to tell the lady that she used too much conditioner. Just like a previous Unilocaler’s comment, he insisted on finding out who cut my hair last because apparently it was uneven. #1, I had already told him it was 8 months since my last hair cut so obviously my hair grew out uneven and that hair do not grow at the same rate especially when you already have layered/​textured hair.#2, PROFESSIONALS already know #1. No need to blame the previous stylist.
The unprofessionalism continued… Alex smelled of sweat as if he was wearing a shirt from the night before. Being too close to him as he worked with my hair, it made me really sick… the horrors do not stop there. After combing my hair, he told the shampooer that he’s going to make me stand as he cut my hair. She said he didn’t need to because I’m short enough. He told (not ask) me to stand. He removed my chair and told me, «wow you learn fast,» REALLY? This is part of the experience of your $ 80 haircut? He then SITS on MY CHAIR and cut my hair as I stand for 15 minutes. I told him I wanted bangs and he didn’t like the idea. I said it was my hair and that I wanted him to cut my bangs. His reply was, «You tellin’ me how to do my job?» ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS, ALEX!!!
After what seemed like eternity, he finally let me sit. He asked me if my mom worked in a bank because he was trying to get a loan so he can open up his own salon. I said I’m not the same person he was thinking about, but as his racist ass insist that if he had talked to an Asian girl before that it must mean, that I was that same Asian girl, or must know how to channel other Asian people’s memories… I wanted the conversation to end already and that for him to finish his job. While drying my hair he burned the back of my head AND also burned my forehead. His attitude toned down a little bit because I was getting very upset. He did not apologize for burning me and instead just blew semi cool air from the hair dryer on my forehead.
If you already are in an abusive type of relationship at home and would like to have the same experience when you get your haircut or styled, then by all means, go to this place and ask for Alex. But if you want a real professional do their job right and do what you ask them to do, then do yourself a favor and just cross the street and wait for the next appointment at the Aveda salon. You’ll save $ 25, the people are very professional and nice. Or go to Chinatown at Sub-​Image and get the best service and care for a third of the price.
And Alex, I hope to BATMAN that you don’t get approved for that loan and maybe lose your license. Get a job that you actually like, douchebag.

I gad my hair colored and cut by Yolanda, she is the best I love the color as well as the cut… Yolanda explained the whole process I am very, very happy with the results. I recommend Yolanda as the color specialist in the place! Highly professional.

Really really really really bad haircut
I’m a guy. My haircuts are simple. Never had a haircut that I didn’t feel like, «This’ll do.» Except after going here.
Really can’t say enough bad things about this place. Although I should also mention overpriced. And I left mad enough to come back and post a bad review here.

I’ve been having my hair cut and colored by Mela for around four years, she helped repair my hair after a disastrous color-​removal process done elsewhere. She listens, makes suggestions, and I keep going back. On occasion I’ve had my color done by other stylists, including Yolanda, and the owner, Angela, and am always happy. The salon is very professionally run, clean, welcoming, and fun, and the prices, for NYC, are good. Definitely recommend

Faith is amazing!!! I recently walked into the salon hoping that a stylist would be able to color correct some of my highlights (mostly my part and bang area). They were very brassy, as a result of a former salon I went to. Faith was so friendly and helpful. She said I would need just a few foils and a toner, but she actually added more foils to make sure everything blended nicely. She then gave me a deep conditioning treatment. She was amazing!
Everyone could not have been nicer, from Brooke the receiptionist to Faith’s assistant. I liked that I was not rushed, and Faith really took her time to educate me about hair care, products, etc. Not to sell me stuff… but to inform me about the importance of knowing what works for me. I am looking forward to my next appt.

I came to Jeffrey Stein as a result of buying a Living Social deal. I got a GREAT cut — exactly what I asked for and wanted. Unlike other places I’ve been as a result of a Living Social special, they actually made me believe they wanted repeat customers; offered 20% off color and a discount on my next haircut.
The stylist, Angela, was very experienced and informative. I left feeling great.

I would give this place negative stars too. I am pretty dissatisfied with my haircut, but even more disappointed in their poor POOR customer service. I was offered a water when I came in– which I happily accepted– but it never came. Small thing, but definitely a telling of what was to come.
I was really disappointed in the cut. Called the next day to see if a different stylist could fix it and was told NO. I decided to call back when I had more time to figure things out.
So, a few days later I called back to be told it wouldn’t be fair for another stylist to fix my hair even though I really didn’t want to go back to the guy who messed my hair up (in my opinion). After a lil bit I was told to come in and someone else would fix my hair–
THEN– I get a call a few minutes later telling me it isn’t fair for anyone else to cut my hair and none of them want to do it (would’ve taken three minutes to fix) and I had to come in for the original stylist. I asked if I could have a partial refund to go somewhere else.
NO.
They don’t do that. And they insinuated I got my haircut two weeks ago when it had been four days. When I corrected her, I was curtly told I must be wrong.
So, they wanted me to come in and get my haircut by the same stylist who obviously didn’t understand what I wanted. No thanks. I heard Jeffrey Stein himself was all about customer satisfaction, but I guess his other stylists aren’t.

I have had my hair cut by Yolanda 3 times and colored by her once. EACH time has been a wonderful experience. I will only go to her to get my hair cut. The color was fantastic and she explained the process to me so that I was well informed since I was going from black to blonde. It was a bit pricey, but that expertise and piece of mind is really what I was paying for.
