Closed I guess. Standing at 172 E 118th right now & it’s a Mexican grocery store. Bummer.

I used to work not too far from here, so we’ve had food delivered here for work parties. Very tasty! The first time I had Island Spice, I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap, which was deliciously spicy and messy. They also serve really excellent juice with cherries floating around on the bottom, which adds for a great touch. I also really love their chicken burritos, which are available with or without wasabi. Nothing fancy but it hits the spot!

CLOSED! Been trying to get through on the phone and went by a few times. There is no sign saying closed but they are NEVER open. So it seems as if they have closed. I crave authentic Caribbean cuisine. There are a bunch of fusion restaurants of Soul Food and Caribbean cuisine but that is the equivalent of Japanese Chinese fusion. Aka– fugazzi! Anyway this wasn’t fusion. This was authentic. Authentic restaurants do exist but are not as abundant as these«fusion» places that have popped up to fool those who have been to Jamaica once. Anyway it appears that they are closed!

Really good. They have good lunch deals where you get a main dish, 2 sides, and a drink for like $ 6. Jerk chicken and chicken curry are delicious and so is the mac & cheese. Good old fashioned home cooking

Jerk chicken! Jerk chicken! Jerk chicken! They have lunch«mini meals» for $ 4 and you get a meat, rice and peas, and a drink! More than enough food. I get the jerk chicken with extra jerk sauce. Spicy and jerky and just right!

Hours are inconsistent– I was here at 5PM, and the woman rudely said«we’re closing” — this has happened 3 times to me. On the times that I’ve gotten the food I wanted, it’s pretty awesome– the mac and cheese, when available, is my favorite. Make sure you know what you want before ordering– you can get whatever sides they have, not just what’s listed.

Island Spice Kitchen is the place to go for amazing authentic Jamaican food. Six different types of Jamaican patties for $ 1.50 with a side of a coco bread for an extra seventy-cents if you so wish. I haven’t found another place in Manhattan that has patties for a dollar-fifty. The jerk chicken is slow-cooked so the meat falls right off the bone, and boy, is it spicy! The rice and peas are a little too dry for my liking, but it is made up for by the juiciness of the jerk chicken. They make the macaroni and cheese just the way I like it — casserole style. I also tried the calaloo which is a tomato-based vegetable dish made of okra, leafy greens and a blend of Jamaican spices. The menu is pretty extensive — I haven’t tried any of the fish dishes although they sound delicious. There are a variety of Jamaican beverages, too, including ginger beer and sorrel, which is a ginger and allspice-based punch. Fast delivery, cheap, delicious — they also have a great lunch special. However, it is important to call ahead and see what they actually have off the menu at the time.
