Holyland Market

I was in this place about a month ago. The spinach borakas are so good. In addition, the hummus is so tasty.

When I walk into this place I feel like I’m in Israel. It’s amazing how many Israeli products they have managed to stock in such a small store.

Awesome kids’ yogurts from Israel sold fresh! My kids all grew up on them :)

Amazing selection. Helpful staff. All of the Israeli staples, including fantastic array of pickles, Tahina and halva. Was so happy to have found this spot.

When you step in here, you could almost be in Israel (well, almost). Makes me want to be in Israel again, actually. They have a large selection of Israeli items, and their burekas are cheap and delicious. A hit with the kids. The pita is the absolute best I have tasted in all of the US and Europe, really fluffy and just delicious. They even have Israeli shower soap, for the homesick, and Hebrew books and magazines. Some items are a little pricey so I haven’t been very regularly, but if I had the luxury, I’d much rather give my money here to these guys, than to a Target or Key Foods. The guy at the desk is really very friendly. I hope this place stays around, it’s a little piece of Israel in NY.

The young man that worked there was very helpful! I visited on February 6^th and was very impressed with selection. I had never been to a kosher grocery store since I am from Virginia, so he helped me find some interesting things to try.

The only place in Manhattan to fine many authentic Israeli products, including soaps and shampoos. I buy as much as possible here to support this small business.

This place is so accommodating! They will deliver and they are always open so late. I used to drive to Brooklyn for my Israeli food and I’m so happy I found this store! Everyone who works there is very nice. Large selection, highly reccomeded!

The nice guy in the doorway trying to hand off something to a guy on the street and apologized for the delay, then explained the $ 6* challah was from a BK bakery ‘delivered fresh’. Enjoyed it but won’t be back here to procure another, but might for the «the well-​dressed falafel or shawarma requires, including first-​rate tahini, za’atar, and amba. Plus peanut-​butter-​flavored Bamba, the Cheez Doodle of the actual Holy Land.»

So I’m touring the LES with my wife and friends when someone says, «Let’s get some waters so we don’t die today.» We look across the street, and as if out a vision, the Holyland Market appears. Fortune had smiled upon us, as only on my birthday would I enter my first Jewish bodega.
As luck would have it, the entire bodega was out of water! But never fear, as they had something even better. Giant challahs.
I’m used to secret bodega gems like Zaragoza, where you can unexpectedly find tacos. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect a bodega of my people.
As we walked around the LES sharing bread, dipped in the bowl of chocolate that my sister-​in-​law randomly had, I felt like a big birthday mensch.

It’s a wonderful place to explore and pick up some new ingredients. The burekas are delicious and flaky.

Best. Pita. Ever. The super fluffy thick kind. And all the Elite chocolate you could possibly want! I ended up getting chocolates, zaatar, pita and other things that I have to request from my parents when they go to Israel. Now I can just hop on the F, go to St. Marks Place and by all that stuff that I crave. Will definitely make the trek back!

A GODSEND. Wow oh wow. This place is a diamond in the rough. Baruch HaShem for Holyland Market being where it is. It’s unbelievable that this place exists where it does. Such an amazing feeling to know that kosher food is so easily accessible. It’s truly a pleasure shopping there.

hehehe. $ 8 for tim tam pretty expensive since it only cost $ 2 in aussie but well worth it.

A little run-​down, but that’s my only criticism of this Israeli bodega.
Standouts include the hummus (best and creamiest on earth), the borekas (homemade flakiness), the babka (chocolate or cinnamon, both dense circles of breakfast joy), the packaged snacks (junk food, but unique junk food), the candy near the register, and that Nutella-​esque chocolate spread. They also carry pita from Pita Express, which is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
Also, Hebrew-​language women’s magazines, which will explain how to lose all the weight you’ve gained by shopping here.

Quite nice things from israel. Prices usually relatively OK though hummus costs less at every supermarket than there (same hummus!). The place itself looks a bit dirty and rundown. You probably have nothing to do there unless you are Israeli.
Why would you want an Israeli shampoo is a mystery to me.

I wish this place was in the UES! It’s like a little makolet straight from Israel in NY. I would go here everyday if I could. They have the freshest pita, laffa, and bourekas. They have all the Israeli drinks, meats, cheeses, spices, cookies, cereals, cleaning supplies, candy, and frozen food that you can’t find in any regular grocery store. Amazing place. The staff is also really nice and cool.

Perfect, feels like I stepped into a Megabull or Megabear supermarket in Tel Aviv’s suburbs. They had Sabra’s skhug, elit’s chocolate and a host of other authentic Israeli items.

Disclaimer: I have never actually been here, and I don’t mean to negate the value of this place in and of itself, but this is the site of the former «Sin-​e» (Irish for «that’s it») coffee shop, where Jeff Buckley played from 1991 – 1993. It is a central historic landmark for Buckley fans. Shayne Doyle, the owner, was an Irish transplant who came here, started a tiny coffee house and sold Rolling Rock Beer and food in addition to coffee, aiming to support home-​grown musicians in the process. Jeff made a home for himself here and would sometimes even help behind the counter washing dishes and befriending customers. His first album «Live at Sin-​e» was recorded here in the summer of ’93 I believe. You can hear the espresso machine in the background in many songs. So if you are a music fan at all, this «Holy Land» market is indeed sacred ground :) Though God is of course, the most sacred!

If you’re looking for a taste of Israel, this would be the place. They have all the standards I remember seeing when I went to Israel and some other things.
I always get some kind of fun treat when going in here. Yesterday I picked up Za’atar and Olive Oil Rice Chips. They were good!
As for vegans they have one or two pareve chocolate bars and pareve chocolate chips that both are free of fish and egg. You will not have trouble as a vegan finding fun snacks.
I always stop in here when I’m near because it reminds me of Israel and I definitely miss my experience there and would love to head back.
So yeah, come here for fun Israeli goods!
