I stopped by Hair Bar after work, without an appointment, to inquire about keratin options. Leah and Benny looked at my hair and helped me decide which Keratin option would be best– I chose Silk Touch, which is formaldehyde free and produces results for up to 6 months.
I had expected to make an appointment for the treatment at a later time, but instead they said they could do it all right then. Leah cut my hair and then began the treatment, though because I hadn’t made an appointment she had to leave midway through. But it wasn’t a problem, Marion finished the treatment for me, and when Marion was temporarily busy Suzy helped out too. I really appreciated how friendly and attentive the staff were.
The treatment itself took around 2 – 3 hours, though it was totally worth it. And unlike other Keratin treatments, they wash Silk Touch out at the end of the appointment so you don’t need to be careful about getting your hair wet or anything though advise not putting it into a ponytail for a few days. My hair, which was relaxed, brittle and frizzy prior to the treatment, is now soft, smooth and pretty straight. I literally don’t need to do anything to it after I shower, it’s amazing. I definitely recommend Hair Bar and Silk Touch to anyone thinking about it!

Came here for a keratin treatment and super happy with results! My hair dresser Sam was terrific and very professional. She paid super close attention to every hair strand and was so friendly and nice to talk to. The extra charge for longer hair (I paid $ 45) was totally fair and reasonable, since I have pretty long hair and this requires probably double the keratin product.

I’m so glad I found hair bar NYC! Susana is my stylist and she is beyond amazing. She takes the time to listen to you, and gives you exactly what you want. She does amazing things with color! I always get the express keratin treatment as well, and it leaves my hair so smooth and shiny! Love hair bar!!!

The ONLY reason this place gets 3 stars is because the service itself really turned out great. I’ve gotten keratin three times, and this was the best one — my hair looked and felt great and still natural. It held up OK, about 8 weeks. I’ve got very thick hair, so it usually only lasts 6 – 8 when I get it done here. This was pretty good.
HOWEVER, the service that I received personally was awful. I specifically scheduled the appointment at this location so that I could rent a car a block away and drive out to afternoon meetings on Long Island. The appointment was scheduled to go 930a-​1045a. I know it usually takes 2 hours, so I planned to get the car at 1130, but my meetings didn’t actually start until 1. Plenty of time, so I thought.
I showed up at 915 to the shop being completely closed, even though they were supposed to open at 9. Nobody showed up until 10:15. I called shortly after 930 and was told to come uptown to the other location and they could «fit me in.» I explained why I couldn’t and was repeatedly told that my stylist would be there shortly and was so close. We started 45 minutes late and ended at 1p.
I understand that sometimes processes take longer than expected, but showing up 45 minutes late to an appointment is beyond unprofessional. On top of that, I payed full price.
With that being said, I really did appreciate the Keratin treatment and the woman that did my hair was fantastic.

First time getting a keratin treatment and I loved it! My stylist was amazing and very helpful in explaining the treatment and my hair looks great. Would highly recommend this location.
FYI, you can also book the keratin groupon offer on their website for $ 5 less. My hair was long so it came out to $ 45 additional to the base price.

This is the place to go for keratin. Just got a great 24 Karat with Isabella. Been getting keratin for 7 years all over and this place knows keratin. It’s not the nicest looking salon, but it really doesn’t matter given the quality keratin they provide for the price. The women who work here are all really nice and double team/​help each other out if they’re running behind.

I got the Keratin Gel treatment at Hair Bar and had a great experience! The new location is spacious and clean. The girls are really friendly and do a great job. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for an affordable Keratin treatment!

After having a great experience with Brittnay at their Kenmore location, having done cut color and Keratin treatment, I woke up the next morning with curls underneath and a wav in my hair on the back of my head.
I was uninformed that if I sweat throughout the night that this could occur, and I should flat iron my hair right away. Well I did not do that or have a flat iron either way, and so I went back to the 3rd Avenue location because it is more convenient for me, and Miriam, the manager, was more than happy to fix the mistake and redo the Keratin for the parts that were affected– mostly everything except for the top crown
Miriam was friendly, more than happy to help me out, and spent over two hours making sure the results were what I had expected as I have had this treatment in the past and have had luck with having it been perfectly straight. They do tell you this is not a straightening procedure and some hair does not respond to it it just relaxes the curl, but I knew my hair did react we from prior experience and when I told her what happened, she completely got it. So free of charge she re did my keratin and of course I took care of her afterwords for being so kind and taking care of me so well.
I really liked her attitude the location was clean & very calm and had no drama– I would go back again for sure.

I used a Groupon to get the $ 99 deal for the Keratin Treatment. Let me first let you know that my hair is long and thus they charged an addition $ 30 for my hair. It says this in the fine print of the Groupon and they have a chart at the salon that tells you how much extra you will be charged. I have gone to several salons in the past for my Keratin Treatment and nothing compared to the quality of this salon. Not only was everyone extremely friendly and fun, but my Keratin treatment (24Karat) has lasted longer than any other salon’s Keratin treatment that I have gone to. I received the Keratin Treatment back in Mid-​August and now almost three months later it is still working well! Am definitely going to back here for all my hair needs :)

Gina is the best! In fact, Hair Bar NYC is the best. The staff is so great and so professional. I love coming to get «beautified»!! For all types of keratin treatments, this is the only place to go. They are as good, if not better, than all the fancy salons. I love my hair. It feels so healthy and looks great too. My boyfriend thought I got a haircut in addition to my keratin, but I didn’t! In fact, my hair looked like it needed color but not anymore. Thanks Gina! Until next time…

I had a Keratin with Tammy, she was EXCELLENT. My hair is very long and thick but she was very patient and thorough. Then she gave me a very nice hair cut after, I feel like I had a makeover.
I left this place very satisfied.
So I definitely recommend coming here.

Let me start off by saying, I’m a very picky client. VERY PICKY!!! I tend to get turned off easily by even the smallest things, and therefore, have been to many salons and have dealt with many different hair stylists. However, I feel like I have finally found the one, Nancy! I have been reformed and turned into a loyal follower!!!
Nancy can do it all. A long lasting keratin treatment, a perfect hair cut, an exceptional color and highlights and much more.
Nancy’s easy going nature, combined with a great attitude, professionalism and a natural talent for doing hair, makes her a one of a kind stylist. She is the kind of a stylist who always takes her time to listen to what you want your hair to look like, but more importantly, she actually delivers! EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
Nancy is the reason I will continue going to Hair Bar NYC and will follow her anywhere if she ever chooses to leave.

How fair is it to rate a hair salon based on only one stylist? its complicated.

Stylist Marion, at this location is A+wesome !!
I made a weekend appointment. My expectations were low, having had a less than stellar experience at other higher end salons in NY. The person I spoke to on the phone was nice, good sign. Once I walked in for the appointment Marion was so genuinely nice, friendly and professional. YAY! She listened to my concerns, gave honest opinions and made the experience great. She talked just enough, I felt comfortable as if I had been going to her for years.
Gold-​Keratin Treatment: Being some what of an expert in this (I have been getting them for a LONG time, thanks Miami for the introduction!) I could immediately tell she was doing it right. She took her time but was efficient. Cant say enough about how great she was!
