Denesha did an amazing job! I came in with lifeless hair and left feeling so glamorous! Definitely coming back to see her.

As a walk-​in, I just wanted a haircut; I got exactly what I wanted, and everyone was really friendly. I also thought it was quite reasonable– $ 32 for shampoo and cut after taxes. I had Denesha, and she was so sweet and friendly. I’m self conscious about my hair since it’s so thin, but she complimented it and actually made me feel good. I was really happy with my experience here. It’s not the most luxurious salon in Manhattan, but I thought the service and the haircut were great!

Horrible experience at this salon. I walked in by accident one day and asked if the salon provided a treatment using a hair steamer and was told they did. When I made an appointment and came in to do my hair, I was told they didn’t have a steamer to begin with. The lady who washed my hair was combing the conditioner through and ripping my hair at the same tome. The blow dry wasn’t that great either. I could’ve gotten the same result at home. But here is the worse part. Upon check out the prices changed suddenly than when I called over the phone. I was told a blow dry is 25 if I make and appointment which I did. But they acted like they didn’t know what I was talking about and blamed it on this new person who didn’t know the prices. I had to literally pay for their mistakes. Bottom line don’t go it’s a waste of time and of course money.

This place is dirty AND fraudulent. they dont understand the meaning of customer service and they are so shady on the prices of things. i will NEVER go back to this place and you shouldnt either.

this place looks really nice. the hair stylist was really nice but: not professional at all… sorry…after that i went to my own hair stylist to fix my hair!! even highlights is simple! i just wasted my money even it was via groupon

This salon has a lot to learn about customer service.
I bought shampoo/​conditioner from Ben David Salon recently, used it a few times and decided that I was very unhappy with the outcome for the kind that I purchased. I walked in today with receipt and full bottles of shampoo/​conditioner to see if I could exchange them for a different set of Kerastase products and was told no.
After spending $ 75 on product, only using it a few times and being unhappy with it, the least the salon could do was let me exchange the product for different product that might be better suited to my hair. The receptionist offered to give me 30% off my next purchase, but I am sorry, saving $ 22 with that offer does not make up for me being stuck with $ 75 product I will not use.
I am very disappointed in the customer service I received today and will never return to a Ben David Salon.

I went to Ben David for the Keratin treatment. Though my stylist was nice and funny (though slightly intimidating), I wasn’t too impressed with the actual treatment. The space itself is clean and modern and I may be back for another service, but Keratin-​wise, I’ve definitely had better at other salons in the hood.

Seems I am sadly not alone in having the worst experience at this salon. I had just moved to the city purchased a groupon for a cut, color, and conditioning treatment. Completely excited to go and revamp my hair… overall I had a pleasant time while I was there… for 3+hrs…loved the color loved the cut. The woman who did my hair was extremely friendly and seemed competent however when I got home and changed my shirt that night I noticed that the entire backside of my NAVY blue shirt was bleached!!! No one at the salon told me my shirt had been ruined even though I wore a cape and a towel over it. Seeing that I had tipped the stylist extremely generously and that I was a new customer I called to see if they would correct the situation. I have called almost every week now for the past two months leaving my number every time for Ben David who conveniently is never at the salon I call and when I call the other he is too busy to talk. I have been given his email address but little luck there as well. I don’t know who this guy thinks he is but the way in which he treats people is rude and disrespectful. I should add that while at the salon I watched him refuse service to a woman who walked in off the street whom looked a little homely but he knew her by name. He told her there was no one to blow out her hair even though he was standing around and two other stylist were sitting in chairs gossiping. Figured that they had a run in early and it is his right to refuse service so I didn’t think anything about it until I encountered my own issues with him. I also was a witness to Ben getting a visitor… he put her hair into a messy ponytail walked her to the back room for literally 2min and then she walked out… what could that have been about?! Idk but she didn’t pay… I will continue to call until I am compensated for my shirt and receive an apology. Business owners should not act in the childish manner that Ben David seems to know oh so well. Reason I signed up on Unilocal was to review this salon.

I had been a Ben David patron for SEVEN years… although the hairdressers came and went, I was always happy with the cut and the treatment as a client.
…BUT…
One day, I went in for a haircut, I waited OVER 30 minutes while some incompetent stylist played with some lady’s already ultra-​short hair (cutting and blowing drying, then cutting, then drying… etc.)
Finally, the receptionist, seeing I was in a rush, so SHE washed my hair and sat me in the chair – she assured me the stylist would be with me soon. The stylist, seeing I was pissed off, told me the person before me had «really difficult hair.»
The stylist finally started doing my hair – I told him that I was in a rush for an event… and to please cut my hair in any way he thought would look good — just making sure not to cut the front layers too short. He took FOREVER to cut my hair … and in the middle of the cut, he ran off to answer the phone (since he receptionist who doubled as a hair washer was on break). After the call, he began cutting my hair again… I said, «WHAT ARE YOU KIDDING ME? — YOU STOP A HAIRCUT TO DO RECEPTION WORK AFTER YOU KEPT ME WAITING FOR 30 MIN AND I TOLD YOU I’M IN A RUSH?» He attempted to scold me, saying that I shouldn’t have a negative attitude… as when the salon is understaffed, everyone has to pitch in.
Then, the phone rang again, and I glared at him – so this time, he didn’t run for the phone call. As another hairdresser casually waltzed in, he sarcastically remarked, «BECAUSE SHE GOT MAD AT ME AND NO ONE ELSE IS HERE, WE MISSED A CLIENT PHONE CALL.»
Finally, he blew out my hair, rearranging the hair clips every two seconds… and spraying volumizer on my roots every other minute… totally confused as to how to style my hair… He looked all over for his products and looked disappointed with what selections he finally made. He even dropped the brush and picked it up off the floor without rinsing it off or swapping it for a clean one.
If that wasn’t awful enough, when he FINALLY finishes, my hair looked flat and over-​dried – plus he took almost nothing off the length. He looked at me and said – «IT DOESN’T LOOK GOOD BECAUSE YOU DIDN’T LET ME CUT HOW I WANTED – YOU NEEDED LAYERS.» And then, my favorite repeat line: «You have REALLY DIFFICULT HAIR» (hmmmm, just like the short-​haired chick before me).
Because I was already an HOUR late for my event, I didn’t stay to argue… but as I paid, I told the receptionist-​turned-​hair-​washer that this was going to be the first time in my 32 years that I will leave NO tip for a stylist.
The receptionist called me back hours later and said that BEN of BEN DAVID (yes, turned out the OWNER was the STYLIST) wanted to apologize that we had a MISCOMMUNICATION – and did not want to lose me as a client. They offered me a free cut and blow-​out to compensate me for my problematic experience. I thought that was at least a step in the right direction. She told me that I could either come by and pick up a credit certificate – or just call and remind her of the conversation when I make my next appointment – either with Ben or another stylist.
So now it’s two plus months later, and I call to make my appointment with another stylist – the receptionist (who was both sweet and competent) remembers me and honors the deal. The day of the appointment, I left work early to get there – and on my way, I get a call on my cell from the receptionist – apparently BEN rescinded his offer and says the deal is no longer valid. The receptionist apologized and said that BEN changed his mind since too much time had passed – even though there was NEVER a time limit on the offer. When I reacted angrily, they told me, I could get 50% off.
I rather pay full price than do business with liars, especially incompetent ones.

I’ve been going to Ben David for a couple of years now and they always do a great job and everyone is really nice. They have a very fun atmosphere and I love it! You can’t take life too seriously all the time!:)

I came in today to get a shampoo/​blow-​dry to look my best for an event. I liked the way there was barely a wait and that, because of a special, I paid the same price I would have paid at that horrible Supercuts up the block. Everyone I saw having their hair done there came out looking great, but Ben David was pretty forgettable. Maybe it was the extremely minimalist décor? I’m used to paying next to nothing for student haircuts and having much more atmosphere…

This place is dirty and I would no recommend it to anyone. I bought the deal from
for a cut, partial highlight, kerastase treatment, and a blowout. The staff was friendly enough but I kept having to wait while my stylist stopped working on me to work on others who came in not to mention they called me at 11 to reschedule my 12:00 appt to 12:30. I told the stylist I just wanted a little length off and my highlights touched up. I had a honey color before and wanted something a LITTLE more noticeable. I almost cried when I got home. My hair in the front was almost white in some places. I can’t believe he let me leave like that. Needless to say, I went to duane reade and purchased a light brown semi to undue the damage.

I had a great experience there. I just moved to the area and its always scary to try a new place! Onur did exactly what I asked, the color is great, and the staff was very welcoming. I’m a loyal customer now!

this place sucks. i was fooled by the cuteness of the place and how nice it looks but they give crap jobs at haircuts. go to walmart get a haircut there and you will get the same effect at ben david. i told him keep the same length and he chops off half my hair. im never going back. they gave me a ugly hair cut. i suggest old people to go here or people who arent looking for any difficult hair style. they are cheap though, theres a plus but thats about it.

Been going here for years. Mario is my guy and he does a great job. Great value too, clean place and not expensive.
