Grand Hyatt New York

Nice location and okay Looking but as far as service and being of assistance they are horrible!!! I am a frequent of hyatts and I must say this place is a disappointment. I tried to eat at the restaurant and everyone just walked passed me and 10 min after when not even bright a glass of water I walked out upset and that was that there were only a cpl tables occupied lol I would never stay here again or recommend anyone else. Employees lack the urge to wrk hello u work in customer service/​hospitality

If I had to find one good thing to say about this hotel, it would be location. Other than that, the price was good, but for what we paid I would expect more.
The room was a good size for NY, but was old, tired, and dirty. The bathroom made me wish I had brought shower shoes. The shower was filthy, the walls looked dingy, and one of my towels was left from a previous guest. The plug was placed to the side of the framed mirror, which was so close to the wall that I couldn’t plug anything in, so had to do my hair in the bedroom where there is no mirror. Don’t look for good bath products, mini bar, bathrobes, etc. This is a very basic hotel.
The front desk staff was barely helpful. I was traveling with a group of 7 people and the experience was inconsistent to the point where one of my guests wasn’t even asked for a credit card and her ID. There were deliveries for each of the people in my group and none were notified upon check-​in, requiring me to run up and down to the mail room to try and collect all or our shipments.
The room service was overpriced for what you get. I don’t mind paying $ 50 for breakfast in NYC as that’s pretty typical. But when I order a bagel and cream cheese, I expect the bagel to be fresh and from one of the amazing local bakeries. Instead, it tasted a bit doughy, like the type you can buy at the grocery store — and not from the grocery’s bakery. Add to that two small packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese on the side and a very small serving of vegetables, and this was one of my worst hotel meals in years.
To top it all off, I accidentally left an item in the room when I departed, and when I called them to talk to lost-​and-​found, I got a voicemail that directed me to go to a website and fill out a form. I expect I’ll never hear back from them.
Not only will I never book this location again, I’ll seriously reconsider whether or not I would book a Hyatt again in the future. For a large chain, I would expect them to have better standards. I’ve stayed in better Motel 6’s.

Fast and easy check in. Every staff member was attentive and friendly. Reasonably priced for a great location. Our room was clean and incredibly comfortable. We got a room upgrade too! We will definitely be back!

Stayed here on New Years Eve in the Grand King room.
Check in is 4pm but I was able to check in a bit earlier.
Room was OK, spacious, clean. Large closet with enough hangers for all of your clothes. Small fridge but nothing else. No bottled water, or coffee maker.
Bathroom: no bathtub, which is fine for me. Sparse on the toiletries. Shampoo which doesn’t really lather, cheap conditioner. Had to call front desk for toothpaste.
Bed: not as comfortable as I would have liked. I like big fluffy soft beds.
Ordered room service and the food was good, no complaints.
Overall: it’s a nice hotel, convenient location if you’re from out of town, with a friendly staff. For the price you pay per night, there is some room for improvement.

The location is terrific. Right above Grand Central it’s convenient for traveling into/​out of the city by train. It’s a pretty good walk to Times Square, the Theater District and Rockefeller Center but it’s doable. Close to Bryant Park, the public library and there is plenty of mass transit (subway options are in Grand Central), ubers and taxis. There are also a TON of restaurants in the basement of Grand Central (a Jrs and a Shake Shack!) and nice little shops. You literally never have to leave and go outside (but you are in the City so don’t be crazy). The staff was extremely nice and the room was huge by NYC standards. It was very quiet and cozy. No view but it was ok — we got a great sleep every night. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic night! Had a college reunion over the Holidays and decided to book because of its location and experience from past stays. After speaking with Kay at the front desk about our plans, she kindly surprised our room with two bottles of champagne free of charge to help our nightly celebrations begin.
The club level on the 16^th floor was excellent, and a great perk as a platinum member. Saved quite a bit of cash from getting breakfast elsewhere. The rooms were spacious, modern and clean. Will be coming back again for sure when in NYC

This place is fine. But I don’t think fine is very good here…
For a hotel of this stature, next to grand central station, for hundreds of dollars a night, I expected a bit more.
I had a king size room, which was fine, but just fine… The bed was comfy which is a plus, but there was just a shower (which took ages to heat up) and no bath. The room was very big, but the space was wasted. The aircon was very loud and not great at heating things up. The décor was shabby.
Generally as I understand it, this place has some good rooms and some fine rooms. But for the price you don’t want fine. The lobby makes it look a lot nicer than it is.
Room service was nice, really tasty food!
I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Go somewhere else that’s more consistent!

I was a little nervous to stay here after reading many of the negative reviews. I stayed here for 4 nights last week & I loved it. I really don’t have a negative thing to say. We stayed on the 17^th floor & had a great view of 42^nd Street & Grand Central Terminal. Our room was clean & set up nicely. The bathroom wasn’t huge, but it was perfect for us. The updates to the hotel are beautiful & I love the Holiday Décor. We were given vouchers for a free bottled water/​coffee/​tea every morning & that was great! Perfect location, walking distance to many places & with Grand Central Terminal next door, it made using the subway super easy. Would definitely stay here again!

Hotel was clean and tastefully decorated. Rooms were pretty nice. Location can’t be beat.

I really wish Hyatt still operated out of the Hotel 48 Lex… such sad news when that partnership ended in September. Absent that Hyatt location, I’ve recently been staying at the Grand Hyatt. Although the location is great for business people and vacationers (you don’t even have to go outside to get on a subway!), the hotel leaves much to be desired.
First things first — the exterior of this hotel is HIDEOUS. The mirrored paneling is a holdover from when Donald Trump purchased the former hotel on the spot and chose to simply cover it with gaudy 1980’s paneling versus restoring the stone exterior. This hotel SHOULD match with the rest of Grand Central Terminal, but apparently the Hyatt hotel chain also didn’t want to invest in making this not look like a god awful 1980’s alien ship.
The lobby is also pretty icky. It’s a massive cavern and, again, super duper 80’s. They do have a decent bar and snack shop, but it generally feels like a soulless corporate dungeon.
The rooms look nice at first, but once you’ve stayed here a few times as I have, you begin to realize that everything has been done on the cheap.
Hyatt renovated this hotel over the course of the past two years, but they basically just swapped out the furniture to more modern styles and put up new wallpaper. Apparently, when it came to the bathrooms, they REALLY decided to cut corners. Instead of replacing the tubs, they simply reglazed them. So, in every single room I’ve stayed in (about 3 or 4 in the past few months), the «floors» of the tubs are peeling and spotty and look absolutely appalling and filthy. The shower heads are also weak and the water is consistently lukewarm, regardless of the time of day that you shower.
This hotel also uses DirecTV instead of cable, which consistently gets horrible reception (not surprising, since the rooms are in a big stone building covered in metal paneling). I wasn’t able to watch a single news station this morning without stuttering, static, and ultimately completely loss of signal.
My other gripe about this hotel relates to the service. The front desk is practically hostile and their policies are not at all user friendly. First, they charge ridiculous fees if you have packages delivered here — MINIMUM $ 15. I ship boxes to colleagues at 5 star hotels around the country quite regularly and have NEVER heard of a hotel charging a fee — and the Hyatt doesn’t even bring the box to your room. You have to go fetch it yourself… so what is the fee for??? Also, I once checked in late after a delayed flight… and they had GIVEN AWAY my room. That’s insane. It was prepaid. And they still charged me the original price for my «no show» room after putting me in a substandard double bed room.
While I may stay here in the future because of the proximity to my office, there’s really nothing impressive about this hotel and I’d prefer to just go back to the non-​branded Hotel 48 Lex…

If you’re black, don’t go here. Right before going to a Broadway show this week, a Hispanic man working outside refused to hail us a cab. My friend was staying here, but even after telling him we were here before other visitors he ignored us. He even got mad and started making a scene even though we just wanted a cab.
This is the same hotel where black celebs get tackled by police for… Being black?
Zero stars if I could.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times now and have really enjoyed it each time. The rooms are pretty nice and the atmosphere is inviting. The Grand Club is exceptional and both the evening hor d’oeuvres and the continental breakfast are remarkable.
My only complaint, as others have mentioned, is the housekeeping. If I were the manager here, I would certainly be promoting a greater sense of ownership amongst the employees. I saw dishes left on the floor outside of rooms that sat there for hours on end. (Funny enough, the housekeeper that was cleaning the room LATE at night next to those dishes didn’t even bother to pick them up.) I saw the same piece of trash sitting on the top of a can near the elevator from the time I checked in at four in the afternoon until the time I checked out at about noon the next day. Management should be taking frequent walks around the property and ensuring a higher level of cleanliness.

Prime location, very modern and clean. Tasty room service (try the wheat pasta with shrimp). The elevators could be larger, but there are a LOT of them. Had no issues with outside noise as we were so far up. Had issues with the movie we ordered being very static-​y (technically statical ?). Staff arrived quickly, but were unable to fix it (signal issue). All in all, decent place. Besides, who stays in the hotel when you’re in the center of Manhattan :)

Stayed here recently and found a great rate online. Found an even better rate here via Priceline a few days prior to our stay, called Hyatt, and they honored that same rate! That’s service. Checked in via Unilocal and they upgraded our room (pending availability, they say).
The lobby is stunning. I might like to see a more traditional check-​in area, as we and others were confused on where to queue to check in. Service was always great, except for the bar area, where we felt completely ignored one night when we returned for drinks at the hotel bar.
The room itself was very clean, bathroom was tiny, loved the artwork and decorating, the iron did not work (essential when you’re traveling to NYC!), but overall it’s about LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Loved the location, close to Grand Central, close enough to Central Park, and steps from public transportation. Recommended.

The Grand Hyatt is in a prime location. It’s right in the middle of Midtown and you could basically walk to every site seeing location. The main reason I stay at the Grand Hyatt in April 2015 was because it’s right next to Grand Central. By right next, I mean it’s right next door to it. There’s a walkway from the Grand Hyatt that leads you directly to Grand Central.
I’ve been to New York many times and I have mastered the subway as if I lived in New York all my life. The main trains that run through Grand Central are the 4, 5, 6, and 7. The 7 takes you to the Westside of Manhattan where you could transfer to the 1, 2, and 3 then go uptown or downtown. The 4÷5÷6 takes you uptown and downtown on the Eastside. I even have the rude New York attitude, which I developed on my own before my visits to New York.
Anyway, the Grand Hyatt’s room are pretty spacious and the beds are comfortable. There’s a restaurant and a bar in the hotel. There’s a convenient store too. Also, there are Jaume Plensa sculptures in the lobby similar to the ones you see at Chicago’s Millennium Park. I thought it was pretty cool since I was in Chicago a month before this New York trip.
The only drawback is the wait for the elevator. There are eight elevators. The first four are assigned for the lower floors and the other for the rest of the floors. We stayed in the higher floors so it was a pain to get up every time. The way I got around this was to take the lower floor elevator up to the top floor then transfer to the higher floors from the other elevators. For some reason, the top level elevators moved between floors faster than reaching the bottom floor. What can I say? Room 112 where the players dwell.
Overall, Grand Hyatt is a pretty cool hotel and located in a prime spot. The interior of the hotel is contemporary and I definitely enjoyed my stay here. I would definitely recommend the hotel based on location.

Stayed here over the weekend. Very nice hotel. Loved the bar and the market that are opened all night. Good for convenience. Went to the bar once at night. Drinks were strong so I guess they’re worth the money. Room was very cute I really liked it. Décor was up to date very cozy with the little couch and table inside. Bed was comfy. It was really clean, no issue with that. My ONLY issue with the hotel are two things (which j took two stars off for).
One: the bathroom tub was disgusting. I’m a HUGE bathroom clean freak. The paint was peeling everywhere, the drain was half hanging out and was stuck. The shower curtain didn’t close all the way so water all over the floor. Ugh very dissatisfying. Needless to say their bathrooms need renovating.
Two: noise. The walls are thin. You can hear when ppl talking as they walk by your room. Heard the baby crying in the morning from the next room. So, yea…

Stayed here for just two nights as part of a conference. The meeting facilities were great and the food was really good. The hotel itself was great, too. All the staff we encountered were friendly and willing to help. Elevators were plentiful and fast. The market in the lobby was very convenient, had a great selection and you could charge it to your room. There was a door off the lobby that took you down a corridor that connected to Grand Central Station. Our queen bed room has plenty of space, was comfortable and clean. We would definitely stay here again.

The Hyatt is in a great location, really conveniently located to Grand Central (if only we hadn’t been arriving and leaving out of Penn), and numerous food, drink, tourist, and evening options. It’s beautiful inside, but because of the number of people milling around lacks that sort of serene feeling I like to have when I arrive.
There was a bit of a line for check-​in, and our room wasn’t ready yet (we arrived pretty early), but the staff were all friendly and as accommodating as they could be. When we came back, they moved our room around a bit so that we could check in without any further delay. For platinum members, they have a great perk of getting free water or coffee with a coupon they give you, and they were generous in giving us quite a few (especially considering a regular bottle of water is $ 2.50).
The rooms are your standard Hyatt fair, but was actually pretty spacious considering it’s in the middle of New York City. I do wish they had taken a bit of the space out of the room and added it to the bathroom, as that bathroom is *tiny.* Bed was super comfortable, and though we didn’t have the maids do service, they offered to come back at a time of our choosing. The walls are pretty thin, though. Probably not earplugs thin, but you can definitely hear some of the goings-​on outside your door and the vacuum going in the morning.
Had a drink at the bar, and while most of the staff is friendly, one gentleman was just straight up rude. So, you win some you lose some. The bell staff were all very helpful and accommodating.

I’ve since been back to the Grand Hyatt New York, and all the same comments still apply.
Over the course of 2 nights (with a late check out) I had to ask three times for room service trays to be taken away. Every time I walked the halls there was either trash or service items left outside rooms. It’s clear that there isn’t a culture of «I see it and I remove it, even if it’s not my job» amongst the staff there.
I’m also dropping the rating because of the attention to detail by housekeeping. Our room wasn’t dusted before we arrived. Even worse, the toilet wasn’t flushed before we arrived. Not something you want to see walking in to a room.
Overall, it’s still a great hotel. I just hope that the standards aren’t slipping.

I had such a pleasant experience here! I came here on a business trip and stayed here for a week. Upon checking in, I was immediately upgraded to a room with 2 queen-​sized beds. It was just me staying there that week! The staff was always very friendly and the room was spotless when I came back from the conference each night.
It’s proximity to Grand Central Station made the stay even better! I’m from LA so I’m already not used to taking public transportation nor had I ever been to New York and didn’t know the city well. Since GCT could take me anywhere in the city easily, it was great to go sightseeing!
The Grand Hyatt had a lot of space to host our sales conference. We worked during the day and they had a separate space for breakfast and lunch. At night, I sometimes had to finish work in the lobby, but plenty of people were working so you won’t be alone :)
I hope my company chooses the Grand Hyatt again for the next sales conference!

das Hyatt war eine gute Wahl für unseren letzten New York Aufenthalt. das Hotel ist Top und die Lage hervorragend. direkt neben der Grand Central Stadion, mit direktem Zugang! von hier aus kann man mit der Subway überall hinfahren oder in den Shops schnell noch was kaufen oder sich nen Imbiss mit aufs Zimmer nehmen. WLAN ist auch frei. auch zu Fuß ist man schnell am Time Square, dem Empire state Building oder in entgegen gesetzter Richtung dem Central Park. sehr zu empfehlen!

Superbement bien situé à côté de Grand Central (avec tunnel direct vers la gare), wifi partout, un service de conciergerie avec pleins de bons tips, je relogerai au Grand Hyatt sans hésiter!
Je regrette seulement l’organisation du lobby, tu arrives avec 2 grosses valises, personne pour venir t’aider (bon au moins, tu viens d’épargner les tips), ni t’indiquer l’endroit du checkin: un peu dommage pour un si grand hôtel!

No le doy más estrellas porque no puedo, jaja. Hotel fantastico, hall impresionante, y las habitaciones… Increibles, sobre todo sus fantasticas vistas del precioso edificio Chrysler. Me aloje en un habitacion doble, son fantasticas, recien reformadas… Yo estuve en julio y agosto y aunque si habia bastante gente, hay que tener en cunta que tiene por lo menos 12 ascensores, un hall muy grande y 33 plantas con mas de 3000 habitaciones, por lo ue eso no es un problema.
Espero que esta critica sirva de ayuda.

Das Grand Hyatt hat ein ausgezeichnete Lage so nahe am Grand Central. Von Hoer kommt man mit der Subway sehr schnell in jede Ecke von New York. Auch zur 5^th Ave. sind es nur ein paar Laufminuten. Das Hotel macht einen sehr saubern Eindruck. Die Zimmer sind für Manhattan groß. Das Persaonal am Zimmer und in der reception ist sehr Fraundlich und Hilfsbereit. Aber das beste an diesem Hotel ist und bleint die sehr Centralre Lage die ja für ausschlaggebend für Excursionen durch den Big Apple ist. Auch gibt rund um das Hotel genug Restaurant’s und Diner so das hier nicht verhungern muß.

Für New York war unser Hotelzimmer im Dezember 2009 relativ günstig. Das Hotel liegt direkt über der Central Station und somit hat man den perfekten Anschluß an das U-​Bahn System von New York.
Das Hotel war von den Zimmer her ok. Halt Hyatt.
Was uns sehr verwundert oder gestört hat, wir hatten Faxe in Hotel bekommen, aber diese sind nie im Hotel angekommen. Selbst auf Nachfrage ist angeblich nie etwas angekommen. Wir haben aber die Faxbestätigung/​Protokoll vom Sender erhalten. Sehr seltsam wo das Fax abgeblieben ist.
Weiterer Plus und Negativ-​Punkt. Man kann Pakete an das Hotel schicken. Das Hyatt läßt sich aber jedes Paket ordentlich bezahlen, nach einem Preissystem das wir nicht verstanden haben. von 10 – 30 Dollar war alles dabei.
Trotzdem würde ich das Hotel weiterempfehlen.

Guter Hyatt Standard und sehr zentrale Lage in New York City, aber im Vergleich recht teuer.

Das beste an dem Hotel ist die Lage direkt neben Grand Central und nicht weit von Times Square. Eine großzügige und pompöse Empfangshalle, die so gar nicht zu den kleinen, schlichten Zimmern paßt. Vielleicht hatte ich Pech, aber das Zimmer wirkte schon recht abgenutzt. Bei dem horrenden Preis –was für alle Hotels in Manhattan zutrifft– nicht unbedingt ein gutes Verhältnis zur Leistung.
