I went to dine at this place today, and it still exists! :) You have to enter through the non-restaurant looking, non-marked door of 323 E 79th Street, and go up a flight of stairs, and you find yourself in an authentic Hungarian restaurant in the middle of NYC. You can have a full meal for $ 25, or just an entrée for $ 20. The full meal has appetizers, soups, entrees and deserts, all Hungarian style. The entrees are classic dishes like paprikás or schnitzel but you also get daily offers. I had stuffed cabbage and it was very nice, just like my Hungarian grandma’s. The place is a bit expensive for the lack of any decoration and the really simple service and plates, but the food is plentiful and tasty so overall this is a good deal for anyone interested in getting a taste of classic Hungarian food.

The heartiest meal you will have in a long time. All for the amazing price of $ 20 dollars, you’ll receive enough Hungarian delicacies to clog your aorta. It’s worth it. Watch 75 year old Hungarians play poker and bridge, grumbling untranslatable explatives that haven’t been uttered since the mid 20th century. Come to eat or play, or both, but don’t bring a literary masterpiece unless you plan on buttering and eating it. Warning: the entrance looks like an apartment building next to another restaurant. Ring up for the«club» and walk upstairs.
