Fast, pleasant service. I was able to find the mattress I wanted online and pick it up in the store.

I’m refinishing my couch cushions. My he phone call was a little suspect, but in person they were great. They cut the foam the same day, and the price is perfect!

Two weeks ago, I was the weird guy in the subway carrying a couch cushion. Taking the 7 to the BDFM, I walked through the underground and on the surface balancing a giant, beige, cushion on my head during one of the coldest days of the year. Why was I doing this? My butt was getting hurt by the springs as the foam had been worn down to a shriveled nothing inside of the cushion — happens with a 6-​year old couch.
So I took to the Unilocal,and found a bunch of places. A few phone calls and voicemails left, I expanded my search from Queens to Manhattan and found Economy Foam.
They do foam. And futons. And foam. Lots of foam. But I needed foam, so I was in the right place.
I walked in with my cushion and was brusquely told to go to the back — no problem. Put the cushion on the counter, got it measured 5 different times. No problem. Sat on two foams to decide thickness, went with the medium firm which remains pretty damn firm — might recommend a medium as it’s still pretty firm.
All told it was $ 105 to redo the foam for the cushion completely. Looking online, it would be $ 80 to just get the foam and have to figure out how to do it myself, here they did everything for $ 105. Not bad at all.
Dropped it off at lunchtime, was ready at 6pm. Service was gruff but acceptable. And the results speak for themselves. If you are looking for a couch cushion re-​foaming, then come here. If you want great service with a smile, go somewhere else.

I have generally found the attitude of store personnel here to be unfriendly and unhelpful. They seem inflexible and impatient, particularly in the foam-​cutting area. Prices for foam, and especially for scraps, seem excessive to me and they really bristle at any attempt to bargain the prices lower.
Generally speaking, the foam density here is low. There’s nothing wrong with low-​density foam but it doesn’t work for quite a few applications, and Economy would be serving the public better if it had a wider range of foam densities on hand for people to buy.
Based on the unpleasant attitude, paucity of high-​density foam and the excessive prices for foam that I’ve experienced at Economy Foam, I’ve decided to take my (admittedly small) business elsewhere.

we wanted a custom foam top to make a platform into a sofa… Hadi helped us every step of the way, and the end result was beautiful. We supplied the material and they were happy to accommodate They kept to their scheduled promise date, and the pricing was fair. I am very happy.

I went here to buy some scrap foam padding because I have 2 pins in my pinky finger and want to pad the handlebars of my bike so I can ride. The owner of the store saw my hand and gave me the foam scrap for free. If they did that for me imagine what type of caring service they provide to everyone else. Impressive.

After reading reviews of futon mattresses, I had a pretty good idea what I wanted when I walked in. The saleslady was helpful and only slightly pushy. The price was better than most prices I’d seen online. I was told that delivery to central Queens would be $ 40.
I tried two mattresses over and again. The saleslady did not push me to make a decision. It was only when I voiced my indecision that she repeated that the wool wrap in the Gold Bond 613 (the more expensive mattress) would be warm in the winter and cool in the summer. I decided to get it. I paid and asked for delivery the following day between 7 and 9 pm. I don’t get home from work until 6:30.
I got home the following day at 6:30 and found that my mattress had already been delivered. The delivery guys had tried to call me, but I was on the train and didn’t get the call. So… I had planned to give them a nice tip and ask them to put my new futon on the bed and take away the old one. I ended up doing it all myself, a 5’2″ middle-​aged female. It got done, but today my back hurts. If the delivery guy had come after 7 pm I’d give them 5 stars. The bed is great so far, but I am not happy about the delivery.

I visited several futon stores in the NYC area, and this one stood out for its customer service and value. The sales people were helpful and attentive, and willing to show me several options in my budget range. They also quoted a very reasonable price for a nice futon unit. I only deduct a star because the delivery men arrived at 9:10, whereas they were supposed to arrive between 6 and 9. Overall though very pleasant and easy experience.

I purchased a top of the line gold bond 613 futon here back in late March, 2012. I waited till now to review as I wanted to make sure the futon was a good product with no issues.
When I visited the store I was helped by a man who knew the products well enough. He was not pushy but rather matter-​of-​fact. By that time, I had seen lots of mattresses all over the city; inner-​springs, latex and so on, (including other futon shops) and I was keen to zero in on every high end futon this store had. He made sure I got to see them and showed me how they were constructed. He gave me time to try them out and wasn’t hassling me at all.
They had what I wanted in stock and they arranged to ship the next day with a several hour window (I can’t recall exactly). The delivery guys showed up right at the start of the delivery window. They assisted in getting the cover on. I tipped the guy pretty good as it is not easy getting those things on with one person. They were very helpful and pleasant.
I would have given the store a 5 star review except for two factors —
1. they were supposed to call 10 minutes prior to delivery (although that ended up costing them time as they had to wait for me to get there) and
2. their website could be better organized with regard to product information.
Granted my rating is higher because I was ready to buy, I had done my homework for the past month or so and I didn’t need a lot education on the difference between futons and other mattresses.
This rating also includes the product of which I’m very happy with. Quite pleased in fact because it is as comfortable or more so than non-​futon mattresses that cost much more.

We had bought two mattresses to put on custom made sofas. Also spent $ 250 on cotton covers, 2 inches bigger the mattresses, just in case they would shrink. The employee told us we could wash them in cold water, gentle cycle… the covers are now 7 incles shorter than the mattresses (seams are gone too!).
So poor work, bad quality.

These guys are not oozing personality, but the prices are great! I got goose down filled pillows for almost half of where I had seen them elsewhere.

I had a great experience here. The salesman was very straightforward and not pushy. I came in with my girlfriend and we were each looking for a mattress. The prices were set, but I got a student discount and then a small discount on the delivery when I asked for it… overall adding up to a significant amount of money! 15% overall. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They unfolded the futons and let us lie down on them to try them out, and then were totally cool with me taking the cheaper one with no hassles, even saying that it was very popular. We were both very pleased. Delivery to brooklyn with a two floor walkup and assembly of the frame was $ 50. Awesome! This place is a great deal for the value.

I’m really confused by the positive recommendations here.
I went there this morning and was quoted a pretty crappy price for a custom sized foam cushion. As I left, the guy at the front desk asked me why I was leaving without making a purchase. «Sorry, your prices are too high,» I replied.
So his response was «Because you come in in the morning, I give you special price» and proceeded to cut the price by over 25%. Now, I certainly appreciate the give-​and-​take of price negotiation, but I really don’t like doing business with a place whose first offer is an out-​and-​out rip-​off. He kept trying to get me to purchase with this weird, almost fetishist offer that «I give you a special price because you come in the morning.» WTF?
Sorry, another place that gave me an honest place up front is getting my money.

My partner and I are in the process of renovating our apartment — and we’re at the crucial, dangerous stage of «No! Not one dollar more, so help me, I’m as thoroughly squeezed and spent as a Kardashian’s 15 minutes. No. More. Ever.»

I visited a conventional mattress retailer — let’s call them «Drowsies,» shall we? Yeah. Saw two mattresses, one clearly nicer than the other. The cheaper one was about 1100 all told (taxes, delivery, bedbug wrapper included) and the nicer was 1900. Reported them to the boyfriend, with a pretty strong endorsement for the 1900 model but a willingness to go for the 1100 if pressed.
He promptly broke into conniptions — from 8000 miles away, no less:
«How could anyone pay such a ludicrous price for a mattress?»
«Well, the one I bought in 1994 was 800 or so… um, we could go for the $ 1100-​«
“But that’s still horrible! Totally unacceptable!»
«- and one of my work friends recently paid about $ 2200»
«WHAT?!! Was she out of her *mind*!!!»
«Well, admittedly, she wasn’t that happy with it — in about a year it started to sag so she suggested-​«
“This is just taking advantage of the American consumer!»
It went on like that for several minutes. (Thank god for Skype.)
But later he had a far more productive idea: he suggested a futon. And the light dawned.
I’d bought a futon from Economy in 1992 when I was in law school, and was satisfied. So, 19 years later I dropped by the new location on a Sunday (note that they’re Sabbath-​observant and always close down all day on Saturday, plus early on Friday in winter.) For a little over 350 I ordered a *very* comfy 10» mattress, layered foam and cotton, delivered. It arrived on Wednesday exactly when they said it would.
At that price, even if it failed in, say, two years — which I doubt it will — I could buy four more over the next ten years and still come out ahead. Consumer Reports pointed out that even expensive mattresses don’t usually last longer than a decade or so, and my colleague with the $ 2200 mattress couldn’t get warranty compensation even though in less than a year it was practically a hammock.
So bag the expensive guys, with their intransparent pricing and shady sales practices. Go to the locals, get a futon and save a bundle.
One final note: the model I got is very heavy, probably more than an equivalent regular mattress. But worth the extra lifting effort, I think.

Its a small shop with a bunch of futons and chairs and furniture. You pass these things all the time walking around the city. They have some good stuff, most of the stores carry the same things so shop around. Helpful hint, Google the manufacturer before you buy anything. You may be able to get it cheaper online.

Problem: Insufficient crash-​space for three simultaneous impending guests. Also, lack of a couch.

The salesman I talked with is good at selling up («You can get a $ 20 upgrade from this mattress to this mattress, or a $ 100 upgrade, or…»), but if you have your heart set on the cheapest offers (around $ 200 for futon mattress and frame), they won’t badger you about it.
Unlike other stores I inquired of and/​or looked into online, these guys had futons in stock and could do a same-​day delivery if I came in early enough. They delivered outside the neighborhood, up four narrow flights of stairs, then set the whole thing up in under 10 minutes; the delivery fee was more than normal, but I think it was for the stairs and not the distance. (The price was fixed at the time of the sale – I don’t want to make it sound like there was funny business, because the whole transaction was wonderfully straightforward.)
Great prices + great selection + great service = 5 stars.

I had to buy a futon mattress for my new apartment, so I went to Economy Foam & Futons mostly out of convenience, since I now live nearby. I had a specific type in mind, which a friend had recommended (double-​foam wool-​wrap futon), and sure enough they had it (and told me it’s also one of the more popular ones). The sales persons were all very friendly and helpful, and in no time everything was taken care of: mattress ordered and cover bought.
I ended up paying much less than I expected: the prices I’d found online were in the $ 350 range for the mattress only, but I paid $ 260 before tax (and an additional $ 40 or so for the cover). This is somewhat surprising (in a good way, I suppose), but hopefully I won’t find that something’s wrong with it as I start using it.
They deliver in Manhattan (or at least in the neighborhood) for a small fee (I paid $ 25 if I remember well). It was delivered to my apartment the next day (and I think they also do same day delivery if you go early enough). That was easy, no complaints!
