East Yoga

Hands down one of my favorite yoga classes ever! I took the Open class at 8 PM on Tuesdays!
The studio is on the smaller side, which I loved! About 12 folks total were in the class, which by judging from other reviews seems to be a full house. The instructor was excellent. He said hello to everyone who was in the class before beginning, and played amazing bells which were super relaxing at the beginning of class.
All of the poses and the routine were fresh and were exactly what I have been looking for in my practice. (i.e. not the same old). I’m excited to go back!

An EXCELLENT studio where you feel right at home. I’ve taken a handful of classes here with four different instructors and all of my experiences have been tremendous. The studio itself has such a comfortable, homey vibe and everyone is just so nice. I love practicing here and highly recommend this studio to anyone and everyone!

Total yoga n00b here. Didn’t even Google positions or watch videos before taking my first class. Loved all 90 minutes of it!
I signed up via Classpass — which is a godsent for indecisive people like me. It was a Basic class with Erin Teufel on a Sunday afternoon. I had ZERO yoga experience and had to look around the entire time to avoid looking the part. The class was well-​paced for beginners, with Erin focusing her attention on everyone getting into the correct positions. In a way, it felt like a private yoga class in a room of 20 people practicing downward dog!
I loved the class so much, I quickly booked my second visit! If you’re hasty about joining in because of inexperience — give it a go one Sunday afternoon. You won’t regret it… even on Monday when you’re sore.

I was completely new to yoga when I found East Yoga. I didn’t know anything and was concerned I would be lost during class. I wasn’t! The instructor was very clear, helpful and patient. After just a couple of classes I was hooked. Every instructor I’ve had at East Yoga has been great. They’re knowledgable and whenever I’ve had an injury, they’ve been ready with thoughtful modifications. The studio is lovely and clean, which is very important to me. I couldn’t recommend east yoga more highly.

This quaint, comfortable, and kind studio provides the space for students to explore the practice without inhibitions. The teachers are knowledgable, articulate, and provide creative sequences to help you approach postures with a playfulness and ease. I highly recommend East Yoga!

i love east yoga. the new location on ave b is so peaceful and special. the classes are a perfect size and it doesnt matter what time u go all the teachers are top notch which is rare. love this studio.

The first time I walked into East Yoga Center, I had only a few months of aerobic-​y yoga under my belt and had never been in a class under 40 people. I was nervous, had no idea what I was doing, what props were for, that breathing had anything to do with yoga, or if I’d face plant on my mat. None of that mattered. East Yoga is so much more than a physical location (or even two). It’s an inviting community with compassionate, thoughtful, articulate, creative instruction where you can learn poses, sure, but lots about yourself, as well. To say a collection of yoga teachers have helped change my life sounds trite and exaggerated, but I was trapped in my body, and to learn to move into every part of my body and begin to do so in my mind has opened me up again or perhaps for the first time.

East Yoga is hands-​down the best yoga experience I’ve ever had (and I’ve tried them all – from Jivamukti to Ishta).
Specifically, I recommend Anna’s classes because she’s one of those rare «gifted» teachers you feel lucky to come across. She gives amazingly detailed instruction that is easy to understand; she clearly describes and demonstrates how to do harder poses; her thoughtful sequence of poses ehances the practice, making for satisfying transitions; she pays attention to everyone and actually notices if someone is doing a pose wrong and she will gently adjust you; the flow of the class is always based on breath; she uses great contemporary music and she even does a little massage during the shavasanah part at the end of class. The atmosphere is not intimidating at all – everyone is at their own level, yet you always feel challenged. I never enjoyed yoga (or exercise) until I took one of Anna’s classes – and now I’m a total convert and it’s the only way I can relax.
The studio itself is just one big sunny room, unlike a lot of other bigger yoga studios. This makes for a tight-​knit, more community-​oriented experience. Even if I move away from the neighborhood, I’d probably commute to keep taking classes here. East Yoga is one of my favorite parts of the East Village.

This is my home away from home. A community of caring yogis and yoginis. The teachers are excellent and give each student TLC. It’s an intimate space with classes that focus on integrating mind and body towards individual equanimity in a more loving world.

East Yoga is a relaxed and pleasant studio. The space is lovely. I feel secure with the instructors and most recently have enjoyed classes with Alex Cohen, Edward Jones, Rian Bodner and Jen Witney who are all skilled thoughtful instructors. The pace and content of the classes vary with each instructor and I appreciate the variety especially given that it’s a relatively small studio. The fact that they offer meditation class is also a draw. I was pretty excited when they moved from a few blocks away to across the street! Definitely a great place to practice yoga.

East Yoga is a warm, kind, and accepting yoga community. A variety of classes and workshops are offered at an affordable rate and the instructors are very knowledgable. When I moved into the neighborhood from Los Angeles, this studio was the first place I felt at home with my asana practice. Also, you can store or rent mats!

I love EAST YOGA. It just gets better and better. There are the wonderful regular teachers I’ve been practicing with for several years, who are masters of asana sequencing and thoughtful philosophical teachings. Classes are physically rigorous, fun and well-​balanced. New teachers (some from OmYoga) have added innovative approaches and expertise to the high quality faculty. The space is open, airy and clean. I like the range of practitioners who show up: young people, professionals, tourists, moms/​dads, baby boomers — a diverse mix representing our great community in the East Village.

I chose to use my last Classtivity pass here and I am so glad I discovered yet another wonderful and amazing studio.
I signed up for the Basics class 90 minutes class. When I first walked into the studio, I wasn’t completely sold. The studio itself is just one room. There is a small desk where you check in. The rest of the space is the yoga studio. There is also a bathroom here so you can change in there. Yoga mat rentals are $ 2. They do not sell water here, but they will gladly give you a mug and you can help yourself to filtered water. I like that concept a lot better than buying water from a plastic bottle.
The instructor for this class was amazing. She is an older woman, probably in her late 40s or early 50s (her name is escaping me now) and she is in great shape. Very flexible and showed each pose with grace. She was a very good teacher, teaching the basics first and then adding on harder moves and then instructing those who had a more advance practise. She was also very encouraging and kept telling us ladies we were all doing a good job. She was very detail oriented and gave us specific instructions on where to put our hands, feet, head, neck, legs and etc. This is very important in yoga as you could be doing the poses incorrectly and not getting all the benefits of the poses. After going to so many studios, you get good at identifying who is a good instructor! I highly recommend this yoga. Don’t let the simplicity and no frills studio put you off. Give it a try…
The reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because the floor isn’t completely smooth and there are some parts of the floor that seem to be slanted making it very hard to do balance poses. I had a hard time with Warrior 3 when the floor was a bit uneven…
But overall, definitely a one in top ten studio in my opinion and at this point, I have been to over 100+ studios in New York…

Nice sized clean studio. I have never taken a real yoga class before so I was scared coming. The instructor was nice and welcoming and it definitely felt welcoming. Not intimidating at all.
Some of their classes run an hour, hour and a half, or a half hour. To get your money’s worth, I would definitely sign up for an hour and a half class because they are the same price.
They provide mats for a rental fee, and blankets and blocks for free.
About 15 people can fit comfortably in the studio.
They had a new student plan 3 classes for 30 bucks and I definitely took advantage of that. The classes start on time and they turn off the bell 10minutes into the class in order not to disrupt the student… And they shut it off exactly TEN minutes into the class… I was locked out.
