super over priced! hookah is not even that great. bad service. this place has gone down hill.

I’m a fan of the Horus Too so when I came to this location it certainly didn’t disappoint. It is much more lively than it’s counterpart with an in house dj, dancing space, etc. It is small and gets PACKED quickly so if you’re going to go go early so you can get a table. But all in all, it’s good spot.

Went to Horus to celebrate our good friend’s birthday. Everyone was smoking hookah but us, and so with the $ 30/​person minimum required with had a few drinks and some food items. This rule isn’t very customer friendly. I never spend $ 30 on my own, and if I wasn’t already there, I probably would have bailed. I would still have had 2 drinks, but I guess a $ 14 total would have castrate me haha. Oh well. Beware.
We tried the chicken kebab and it was surprisingly very good. We also shared baklava. That piece of sweet dry cake must have been the worse I have ever had. I almost spat it out. Tasted like cardboard. Has it been bought from a Sam’s club weeks ago? Not sure but it tasted awful and for $ 8, it was a little painful.
Our party playing with the hookahs had fun and we all loved the belly dancer! She was very talented and beautiful. All in all, I doubt I ever go back. The pressure to spend $ 30 minimum doesn’t sit with me.

Had an amazing time. It was my first time. Went for a friend/​coworkers bday. The Dj was on point. Drinks and hookah was great. I would definitely go back soon!!!

So my review is based on a Monday night. BEST night to have a hookah and relax. Hookah? Awesome. Food? Great. Drinks? Delicious? Company? Priceless. It was worth the $ 60 per person. The hookah, I will say, was the priciest thing we ordered. BUT, the person with the coals kept refilling our coals consistently which made for a long lasting and tasting hookah. Will be hitting that spot up again soon!!!

Always a great time. Love the atmosphere, décor, and food. Friendly service, best hookah in town. The DJ is always on point and they have a belly dancer on Fridays and Saturdays. The hookah with the fruit is super worth it! Try the falafel and babaganouj.

I like the music here. It’s a good alternative if you don’t want to go clubbing. I love their baklava dessert and drinks are reasonable. The hookah is very smooth. I went here on a weekday when it was less packed.

Don’t go here. I went because it is the earliest open hookah bar in the east village. I showed up for «happy hour» and ordered water. After the waters came, we decided we hated the place because of the décor and general creepiness. I ask for the bill. $ 20.30 for 4 waters. The waiter notices my discomfort and says that it is written on the menu (no it isn’t). Also this is during happy hour.
Please don’t go. Finally, their wine markup is literally 20x for the crane lake cabernet. It is 3.00 wholesale, and on the menu for 60 bucks. Please don’t go. I hate this place.
I can’t believe how sad this encounter made me, and I don’t know how they stay in business. They add 18% gratuity on everything. Even waters that already cost 4 dollars. This is terrible. Terrrrrrible. Terrible.

Honestly, I came in there with low expectations but honestly, I’d would come here again. The food was decent, everything I had was decent, especially the kebabs.
The ambience is really nice and they did have a belly dancer that night. The service was average. I disliked that they included a mandatory 18% tip. But otherwise, there was nothing to really complain about.
I will say the DJ was awesome and I loved the music that was playing.

Meh. Got this confused this with the other Horus café. This one on Ave B is apparently the classier Horus. It’s more of a lounge than a restaurant. It does have tables for dining just because.
For appetizer, we had the moussaka which was an utter disappointment. I had the Kosharee (apparently a traditional Egyptian dish) which was not good at all. I had to force my last few bites just because I felt bad letting it go to waste.
Dinner + hookah came up to over $ 100+ for 2 people
Not a bad place for hookah, but for dinner? Don’t waste your money.

Went here for a friend’s birthday party recently. I was very surprised to end up here having told him to make a reservation at Horus On A, but it seems he mixed them up.
Fortunately so!
We were a party of seven and very quickly seated. Unlike a lot of new york places where you feel like a sardine, this place was generously spaced, and our area could have accommodated another 2 – 4 people easily.
The hookahs were good, but not perfect. One of them was very rough from the get go, and we had to ask for it to be replaced. After both were good, and I personally quite enjoyed the sex on the beach.
The drinks were also adequate, and prices fair. Nothing to rave about but certainly good.
Where the place stood out was the service. The waitress stopped by on a regular basis, we only had to ask for coals once, and they were replaced quickly, and the manager also stopped by a couple of times to make sure everything was going well.
All in all, while I can’t rate it a perfect experience, it very nearly was, and Horus Café & Kebab house has earned a spot on my roster of hookah lounges to recommend and frequent.

I ended up here by accident for my friends birthday party. Through a recommendation, he was supposed to reserve the other Horus on 10^th street but he mistakingly chose this one. I’m glad he did.
I don’t smoke hookah that often, but I think it’s a great activity for a large group. We had 6, so it fit the mold. Upon arrival, we had to hand them a credit card and an ID which they said they woudln’t charge (and so far they haven’t). The ambiance was pretty festive, they had a DJ spinning mostly electronic/​hip hop mixes. People kept to their own tables though.
We ordered the Egyptian Pharaoh and Sex on the Beach hookahs. I would say they were both above average, but no where near the best i’ve ever tried. What I did appreciate was that they had an employee constantly come by fixing the coals. The waitress, was attentive and I rarely waited long to get a drink re-​fill. They also upon finding out it was my friend’s birthday brought us a free round of shots.
Speaking of their alcohol, that is one of my few complaints. I felt like their drinks were not very strong. They also have a service charge of 20% automatically added to the check, but it was certainly worth it. We even met the manager and he was a very friendly guy.
If you’re into hookah, this could be your spot for a group outing.

Ive been coming to Horus Café for years! They are always accommodating and attentive. One of the top hookah bars in the area for sure. Best days to go are fridays and saturdays it tends to get very live and club like after 11. Unlike many hookah bars they change the coal often, drinks are tasty and reasonably priced for its prime location. As for entertainment they have belly dancers which are very beautiful and entertaining and the dj mixes up his music playing anything with throwbacks and up to date music. They do have a minimum per person on weekend of $ 30 after 10 but i can assure you its worth it.
It is definitely a must check out if your around the area.

Disclaimer: I love going to authentic Middle Eastern hookah bars in Astoria, but I decided to venture out into Alphabet City and stay close to home.

Decent appetizer menu available. Nothing stands out really. In terms of drinks, they offer cocktails and beers, which are moderately priced.
Music?
Usually the music at this place is really live feel good music to get you in the mood to drink and smoke a little hookah. They play EVERYTHING and ANYTHING.
Wait time?
I’ve gone on a weekend and the place has been so packed inside that a line was formed outside to get in. Try to get here a bit early if you can.
Hookah?
Unlike most places in Manhattan, Horus has a person going around to check if your coals need to be changed. If the place is packed he doesn’t come around often, but it’s still better than nothing. Regular pricing is $ 20, but if you get your flavor on a fresh fruit hookah head the price goes up to $ 30. Please note if there is a special EVENT you will get charged a higher price. Management tends to do this from time to time.
Entertainment?
Every single time I have been to Horus there have been belly dancers strutting their moves all throughout the venue. I’ve seen a range from simple moves to holding a sword while dancing. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
Again, I enjoy my more laid back hookah bars in Astoria, but if you’re in the city with a group of friends in the mood for some drinks and hookah then this is your spot!

One of my favorite places to go for a drink and smoke hookah. It is good for small or large groups. I have never tried their food so my review speaks directly to the hookah and their bellinis.
The regular hookah is $ 20 and their fresh fruit hookah is $ 30. The first time I went I had the regular hookah and the second the fresh fruit. The fresh fruit is definitely a lot better. They regularly change out the coal with no charge like places are supposed to do which is amazing. Places definitely do not do that everywhere which could make a night of hookah relatively expensive. When there is a live band playing the hookah [regular] raises in price to $ 30 which they do not advertise but they tell you as soon as they hand you the menu. Their Bellinis are among the best I have had. Peach is my favorite. It becomes a pricey night but not if you are splitting it among a few people. Ive been told that there are other places that are just as good if not better for cheaper but I live a few minutes away from here so its convenient. Their hookah is strong and gives you a nice buzz unlike other places where it seems even if you eat the coal [never ever but… you knyou still can’t get a reaction.

I came here with living social deal. So not worth it btw! $ 35 deal plus txt n tips it’s like $ 57.
What we got was the prefix menu that consist of apps 4 Falafels, baba ganoush, humus, 3 grape leaves, pitas n salad.
Falafels were ok, I had better and the grape leaves. Yucks! U could taste the thickness of the leaves as in not enough filling! Baba ganoush n humus.ehh.
The main dish… I was expecting a plate of meat EACH PERSON not sharing!
Then baklava for dessert and a glass of wine.
Supposedly all that worth $ 84? Yeah no! We can def get so much better food for the total that I paid, $ 57 let alone $ 84.
Avoid it. Don’t buy the living social. Not worth it.
Oh not to mention. The waiters doesn’t deserve the $ 12.xx service charge that’s added to the total and they were asking for more tips at the end?

This hookah bar is very well priced and the hookahs are great qualities. I don’t care for the food but this is one of those spots I migrate to by myself so I can smoke my hookah in peace and quiet. Do check it out. Just don’t go with an appetite.

This enterprise is full of thieves. They find creative ways to over-​charge you. Food is mediocre at best. There is a lack of consistency in the staff, service, food, and overall experience.

My girlfriend and I went to the Horus Café on a Friday evening with another couple. We had a Living Social deal that offered a $ 84 value meal for two. When we arrived at 6:45 the place was fairly empty and we were seated promptly. I asked before we sat down for water for the table with one glass to have no ice as my girlfriend prefers her water room temperature. We were seated ten minutes before the water finally arrived.
We looked through the menu but didn’t find a meal that looked like our coupon offer so we inquired and were given a separate menu showing a prix fixe meal for $ 35 and told that was what the coupon covered. We ordered the meal from the coupon and the other couple ordered a lamb tagine and chicken kabobs.
The coupon came with a drink for my girlfriend and me. I ordered a beer. She asked if they had rose wine and, after some hesitation, said they did. The wine they brought was some overly sweet wine, almost a desert wine, and almost not drinkable.
After about fifteen minutes they brought out appetizers for our coupon and three salads. We couldn’t figure out why there were three salads and finally learned that the staff had misunderstood and brought one more salad than specified. The food was OK but nothing special.
The we waited for the entrees (and waited and waited and waited…) After an hour I got up and hailed the waitress and asked where our food was, She said it would be right out. And it was right out — AFTER ANOTHER FIFTEEN MINUTES!
Once the food arrived it immediately became clear why it had taken so long. They’d used every last minute to cook all the flavor and moisture out of all the kebob meats. It was dry and hugely overdone.
The meal ended with a dessert which was a tough dry baklava.
When we were presented with the check, the coupon was not reflected, They corrected this and we finally escaped. It was a wholly unacceptable dining experience. The wait staff and management seemed totally out of touch with the food quality and service they were providing. Needless to say, we won’t be returning to this restaurant again.
