This is a great old-​fashioned Bakery. The foods always taste like food use to taste. The food is high quality and reasonably priced. The service is warm, friendly and family oriented.

The lady behind the counter does not give a sheeyt about the concept of customer service — maybe not deliberately, but she seems a little insane.
I see that a lot of people find this endearing, but I have two Jewish grandmothers, and am already at capacity for taking Jewish grandmother crap.
When I told her we wanted the smallest amount of babka we could get (yes, I see the sign about minimum order sizes on the wall, I’m just emphasizing that we don’t want a lot) she mumbled something about me being a stupid girl to my friend.
You know what? F@ck yo’ babka. We ain’t about friendship mutiny. Not up in here.
I don’t care if this is a dying art. I didn’t even want the damn thing by the time we walked out. That said, I ate it the next day for breakfast… spitefully.

Worth the trip from Port Jefferson. My quest for the chocolate babka king /​queen continues. This one so far in number one. It captured the essence of the bread that behaves like a cake. Correct texture, moist and buttery. The chocolate was of a better variety than other babka’s I have tried. I still have more to try, but this one is best of three places I have been to. The sweetness of the crumbs, complimented the un –sweetened buttery dough. The sweetness of the chocolate was not overbearing. Look at other bakeries reviews as i try them.

I’ve been here a few times and all of the classic items: hamantaschen, rugelach and, black and whites, are very good.
The woman who is always there has always been very friendly, but she does have a penchant to sell you what she wants to sell you and not exactly what you want to buy.
Having said that, I’m generally pleased with whatever I end up with in the bag. This wouldn’t be a regular «go-​to» place. But if you’re looking for a bit of Jewish pastry nostalgia; it hits the spot!

Much like Moishe’s Bakery down the block, nothing seems fresh in these bakeries. Each time I have visited I buy stale or hard cookies, pastries etc. The woman behind the counter during the day could use a semester at Dale Carnegie but otherwise, you might as well go for those twinkies if you want something soft and sweet. Very disappointing for a jewish bakery.

a pound of hamentashen should have been about $ 8-​$ 10, price was over $ 16. i say, why so much, he says, oh, i’ll take some out. in other words, caught in the act — he tried to sell me two pounds when i asked for one. very shady.
this kind of business practice embarrasses me.
old-​fashioned jewish bakeries are an endangered species and i miss them. it’s harder to find a good black and white than a fresh box of mallomars. the only one i know of at present is up in riverdale. this one on grand st, as far as i’m concerned, no longer exists.
the hamentashen were dry and left the kind of roof-​of-​the-​mouth coating that comes from either too much cheap oil or is that crisco or lard? it sure ain’t good old fashioned butter.

Like Lisa mentioned, the lady behind the counter didn’t really listen to my order and we ended up with stuff I didn’t really want. The best item I sampled was the black & white cookie. It was my first and it was good. Everything else was really just sub par for my tastes. Kinda dry, not a lot of filling to grease the wheels.

The woman behind the counter is friendly and cute. She gave me some free cookies. The hamentaschen are delicious, especially the large ones. The Linzer cookies are good too. Can’t go wrong at this old world bakery! What is all the fuss about these cupcake bakeries when one can eat here!!!

Went into this bakery hoping for a Hamantasch (you know, the large 4 inch ones), usually costing about $ 1.50 — $ 2 a piece. They didn’t have any, only the rather small ones, sold by the pound. Alright. I asked the woman behind the counter for a ¼ lb. of apricot hamantaschen, and she snapped at me with a «No, a ½ lb!» and before I could comment on whether or not I was still interested, she’s already filling up the bag. I reluctantly give her the $ 4 (which is more than I planned to spend) and left the store. I get back in my car and at the first red light I peer in the bag to notice that she didn’t even give me what I asked for (apricot). The cookies were a mix of apricot and prune. I hate prune. I take a bite of one of the apricot ones, and there’s hardly any filling in it at all. So, I more or less, spent $ 4 on a ½ lb. of cookies — half a flavor that I don’t even like, and the other half dry and almost tasteless due to lack of filling. I probably won’t be going back here. Even if their other baked goods are delicious. Why deal with a cookie nazi so full of attitude?

i have to go back and try some more things but i really dig the almond crescent. why has no one written about it yet???
it’s good… really rich for me and chewy. you NEED to accompany it with coffee or tea. $ 2 for one. NOt bad. I need to try this poppy seed business next time.

I purchased a large piece of chocolate babka today, and it was moist, rich and delicious. My favorite babka, ever. I’m just disappointed that it will be a week before I can return for more. Is there a place for babka rehab? I can imagine the day when I will need to detox from the delicious cakes at E. Broadway Kosher Bakery.

When I miss my mom, I can just stop by E. Broadway Kosher. The woman working here always has a friendly, patient grin and I love her baking. She also calls me «sweetie».
The marbled pound cake and the challah here are my usual purchases. I also really like all flavors of her cookies. Especially poppyseed.
The great thing about this lady is she’s really gruff, but very sweet too. I was coming in from some other shopping once, so I already had a bag with some food in it. I told her I’d just throw the cookies/​bread in my bag. «No,» she said. «I want you to have MY bag.»
There wasn’t much to say. I wasn’t going to argue. «Ok,» I agreed. She told me to take care, and I wished her a nice day as I slipped back into the real world. «You too honey.»

Two days ago I went for a black and white cookie and a bottle of water. The lady working there charged me only for the cookie and let me take the water.
Today, I this conversation took place as I was deciding what to order:
Older man in a keepah (hebrew transliteration, oy): What’s good today?
Woman behind counter: Oh. Too much stuff. My customers are so spoiled.
OM: (points to something) I’ll take that
WBC (to me): Sorry, he’s always in a rush, I’ll be right with you.
OM: Speaking of, I’ll take a rushin’ bag.
WBC: A Russian bag? What’s wrong with an Indian bag? (nyuk nyuk nyuk)
Needless to say, I was transported. Transported further once I took a bite out of my dense, bright, not too sweet rainbow cookie. Love.

A small bakery on the lower Lower East Side. The challah is quite good and the rugelakh are not bad at all, though perhaps not worth the hefty price ($ 8.99 per pound). My friend tells me that the thing to buy here is the rye! It’s delicious and cheap.
