TLDR: — Solid bowl of jajangmyun. Nice wriggly, slightly chewy noodles. A sauce that isn’t too heavy nor too light.

I wrote a previous review for this restaurant. To place this review in appropriate context it should be known that I have been to this restaurant more than twenty times. Nineteen out of twenty times have been pleasant and satisfying in terms of food quality. In reference to their Korean style Chinese food I stick with my previous review and rating. But today we went off the range and decided to foray into their price fixe menu that is found at the back of the menu. At first glance the $ 19.99 for soup, spring roll, an entrée and«dessert seems like a bargain deal. In fact, the waitress noted that the entrée amount is comprable to the amount you would get if you just paid for it separately. It didn’t seem bad and we eagerly anticipated the meal based on PRIOR experiences. The first signs were ominous as to how this meal was going to fare. The hot and sour soup was not available today due to «lack of ingredients» and we were told this some 5 minutes after we placed the order. The alternate wonton soup came with(wait for it) one(1) wonton in the soup. I wasn’t expecting a huge bowl of soup but this was a barometer of this meal’s road to perdition. The only saving grace of the meal may have been the spring rolls, but let’s be frank… if you are a Chinese restaurant and screw up fried eggrolls/spring rolls you have no business being in the business. Now the main dish. We ordered the sesame chicken and«crispy» shrimp with honey walnut. In my last review I gave their tangsooyook the equivalent of a 10 out of 10 noting that they didn’t drench the meat in batter that results in an unacceptable meat: batter ratio. This sesame chicken was the complete opposite. I don’t know where they get the chicken meat(and maybe I don’t want to know) because whatever meat was present was that dark meat that would make a McDonald’s chicken mcnugget blush. The sauce is overbearingly sweet and the grease level causes that nausea. Is this unfair criticism? Not when I have had that same dish before knowing they have used white meat. We didn’t even bother packing the amount that we didn’t eat(which was like 75% of the dish) because carrying the weight of fat and grease home wouldn’t be worth the effort. Either the main chef was at home sick today or this is a sign of the gradual(and often inevitable) decline in quality that plagues your average Korean restaurant in Ktown. The figurative cherry on the cake(which would have been better than the dessert) to this fiasco of a meal was the«dessert» which was nothing more than canned peaches in that sugar drenched soup. So, paying for the price fixe(which includes dessert) gives you a dessert that is lower in terms of quality than the complimentary dessert you would get if you got the standard noodle dishes. I gave them five stars before because they deserved it. They get one tonight because they more than asked for it. This review is directed at the price fixe menu. I sincerely hope that this is a one off experience but unfortunately it was so disappointing after having eaten at this restaurant more than I can count. We will be taking a hiatus and hope in the meantime they think real hard about trying to present that as food worth their reputation.

I love Korean-Chinese food! This restaurant is very clean and has a modern ambiance. I’ve been here about four times and every time I came, I was greeted with smiles and received an excellent service(maybe it’s due to the perk of speaking Korean because the staffs are Korean). I tried jajangmyun(black bean noodle), jjangppong(spicy seafood red noodle soup), sachun tangmyun(spicy seafood white noodle soup), tangsuyul(fried meat with sweet sticky sauce), uringi(fried chicken with sweek sticky sauce and chili peppers), and many more dishes. I really liked them all and they all tasted like the ones I had in Seoul so whenever I feel nostalgic, I come here. Unlike the previous reviews, I only had good experience.

This place is amazing. The ambiance here is very relaxing and comforting. I came here twice when it wasn’t busy so I was seated immediately each time. The staff were very polite and friendly. I think I accidently ignored a waiter once or twice because the customers behind me were talking too loud and the waiter was speaking in a soft voice, but he didnt show any distress and was still very polite. I ordered jajang myeon, first time just the regular one and second time the seafood one. On both times, the dish tasted amazing. The size portions were large and the food was filling. The price is a bit on the expensive side but it’s well worth the price. Definitely come try this restaurant out!

The Korean menu is amazing! I had Jjambong and garlic chicken doused in spicy chili oil. The meal was $ 17 well worth. Great value to price. The Chinese menu my wife had. It looked delicious too. This place deserve a 4 – 5 stars, come on people! We been in NYC for five days now and have been eating at a different place for every meal. This place is in my top 3.

The go-to place for Jajangmyun(noodles with black bean sauce) and tangsuyuk(fried pork with sweet and sour sauce). Also sometimes for spicy seafood jjampong when I want something spicy. Most of the staff there are nice, and the jajangmyun dish is not salty or too sweet. Just right, so whenever i want jajangmyun, I come here. Tangsuyuk is also good – always a great combo to have with jajangmyun!

3 stars. The food is ok, the environment is great. Like the button on the table to call the waiter. Food came in a short period of time. Prices are very affordable. Place gets a little crowded during the lunch.

This place… ugh. What happened? When it first opened it was great. Talk about a downward spiral. I guess now it is only know for their black bean and noodle dish. The place should be a vegetarian place. There is less than a single ounce of protein in any of their dishes. I enclosed photos in their gallery. I went back two days in a row just to double check my experience before I wrote this review. What Chinese or Korean restaurant makes beef fried rice with MINCED beef? Unless it’s not beef. If this place is known for anything… it will be for their scallion dishes… lol. and oh did I mention great pickled Daikon radish This is a must skip until they get their act together. No parking either. Don’t check in or like them on Facebook… they will never give you a free glass of wine. unless you made a scene. If you are fortunate to get a free drink. it’s probably pretty close to poison.

THEWORST!!! NEVERAGAIN!!! AVOIDTHISPLACE!!! We had the worst food and the worst service that I have ever experienced. We were wondering where the food was and when it Finally arrived, we sent the General Tso’s chicken back. I don’t know how they found chicken with so much fat in it… I’ve never even seen that much fat in chicken. 75% of the chicken was just fat and it seemed undercooked after taking about 45 minutes to get to our table! Even the fried rice wasn’t cooked correctly. When we complained about the lack of service(after the initial order, the only time we saw a waitress was when I went to get her) and bad food to the manager and waitress, all they could muster was a weak, half mumbled, sorry under their breath. The waitress was chit-chatting with another waitress twice instead of coming to see if our table needed anything, even though we hadn’t seen her for 20 minutes. I would never go here again and would recommend everyone to stay away and earnestly hope they close. I had to convince my friends that it would be wrong to walk out without paying. They had their jackets and were ready to bolt. It was that bad.

Fulfilling jajangmyun and tang soo yuk combo for just 17USD. Would be better if come with companies to try all different kinds of dishes.

Very good! Out of towner just popped in for lunch. Portions are huge. Sesame chicken isn’t as sweet as you’d expect, which is a nice change. Good flavors in everything, especially the wonton soup.

Crispy shrimp is really good. Chinese dishes are not so authentic, though. The place is good, and service is warm.

Only place I come for jjajangmyun in the city. Sooooooo good! But the portion of noodles that they give is ridiculous. There are way too many onions than the actual noodles itself. Finishing it off with white rice mixed in can do the trick though. It will fill you up real good. Also, the fried potato thing they give you at the end as a treat is so tiny. Wtf? I know rent in the city is expensive… but these sizes are lacking. Bruh.

Love this place! Best jjajangmyun place in Manhattan! On my first visit, I was surprised to see how good their jjajang sauce was! The portions are pretty big considering how cheap it is for NYC). I’ve also had their fried rice dish too and that was delicious!(You can ask for the jjajang sauce on the side. You have to pay extra but it’s worth it and it doesn’t cost that much extra). On my most recent visit, I ordered the combo menu: jjajangmyun and tangsuyook(pork in sweet and sour sauce). So good! Feel like the jjajangmyun portion was the same as the regular non-combo one. You just added 5 dollars for the pork(again, worth it!). So filling!

For me, a bowl of jajiang myun is the ultimate comfort food. It’s what I grew up eating at ‘Chinese’ restaurants with my family, along with tang su yuk(sweet and sour pork). Now I realize what I was having wasn’t so much Chinese and Korean-Chinese. Which is why I was excited to see that this place had a Korean Chinese menu. For $ 9, I thought my bowl of jajiang myun was a pretty darn good deal. But I have to say I was flabbergasted when I looked at the beff tang su yuk and saw that it was $ 19! What the hell? I even asked my parents if that was a normal price when I was visiting home and they agreed that it was exorbitant… and they are EXPERTS at this stuff. So a $ 9 bowl of those salty, familiar noodles(and a free glass of wine with Unilocal check in) is a great value. I’ll restrain myself from the side of beef just out of principle. As for the space, it’s a lot cleaner and classier than the Korean/Chinese places I’m used to going to. Maybe that’s where the extra beef money is going?

I’ve been converted! My friend and I were looking to order delivery and she was really craving champong and ja jang myun. We called this place up and found out that our apartment was out of range for their delivery service so what did we do? We dragged our little butts to the restaurant! That’s how much we wanted to try their food and it wasn’t a waste of time I’m proud to say I now have a new favorite ja jang myun place in NYC. The restaurant wasn’t busy when we went so we sat down right when we got in. We ordered the two noodles above and this sweet and sour fried pork dish. SOGOOD. I wish I remembered the name of this dish so that I could write it in the review but the only thing I remember about it is that it costs 16.99. Apparently it’s a really popular takeout dish in Korea. But anyhoo, the noodles were also wonderful. The portions are huge and I liked the texture of these noodles. Not too soft but still held the flavor of the dish. The champong spice gets to you but it’s pretty addicting. The ja jang myun comes out looking lke a big black glob but tastes really yummy I’m getting hungry just writing this review! Now I only wish the restaurant delivered to more areas Not sure if I’m down to cab over every time I’m craving some Korean noodles.

A free glass of wine when you check in? DONTMINDIF I DO. Lunch specials range from $ 8 to $ 10. The meat eaters, the fishy lovers and my vegetarian friends can enjoy a meal here. Choose an entrée with either brown OR white rice… also either a soup or salad. The egg drop soup was the best ive ever had – a nice broth with the perfect amount of egg. Great flavour, not too oily. General tso’s shrimp with brown rice for $ 10 was a damn steal. Large portion too! i took half of it home. its also not youre average rinky dink chinese joint, its fancy and very nicely priced. Not to mention the two plates of apps they bring out for free. and wait.yes theres more – they close off the meal with this little crunchy corn puff thing on a toothpick. I suggest coming here for lunch or a date, its nice, fast and tasty!

Pros: * Dong Chun Hong is an elegant Chinese-Korean fusion restaurant, it felt like a fancy dim-sum restaurant in Chinatown. * I used to go to Huo Dong Gak for the classic dishes Seafood Jjajang Myunm and Tangsuyuk with beef and pork, but once coming to Dong Chun Hong we immediately noticed the more refined ingredients so this is our new go-to place! * Addicting complimentary appetizers of pickled Daikon and an picked onion and green vegetable medley * Huge portions * Good service and for big parties!

I am a self-proclaimed jjamppong expert. Come on guys, I literally have a jjamppong list on Unilocal.I make it a point to hunt down the best jjamppong around no matter where I go. It is my ALLTIMEFAVORITE dish. If I could have one meal before I die, it would be a double portion of an extra extra extra spicy bowl of jjamppong! Now that I have secured my credibility on my knowledge of jjamppong, Dong Chun Hong, I award you the gold medal for currently having the best jjamppong! Honestly, you are tied with one other place in Palisades Park, NJ, but because it’s easier for me to go to K-town from where I live(Brooklyn) AND you’re open 24/7, you pretty much take the cake. First of all, your noodles are perfect. They’re not soggy, they have the perfect bite, perfect thickness, and the portion is generous. I am a jjamppong hog so of course I order double the noodles, but really for the average person, a single order is more than plenty. You have the large shrimp AND the small shrimp. There are few things more delightful to me than a bunch of small shrimps inside a spicy seafood broth for me to enjoy one by one with a silver spoon. When I order a bowl of jjamppong and it lacks this very important factor, I immediately do not classify it as being great. The broth has tremendous flavor. It’s the perfect balance between the vegetables, the fresh seafood and the hot peppers that give it spice. It is so addicting that even when I’m full I can probably drink a second bowl of just the broth alone. You guys certainly understand what I mean when I ask for DEADLY spicy. The spicier the jjamppong, the better. When I ask for level 20/10, you actually deliver! This is rare in ANY restaurant, which makes me appreciate it here even more. My favorite accompaniment to an amazing bowl of jjamppong: lajogi(spicy fried chicken). Honestly, top 5 lajogi I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this dish, especially to share with a larger group of people. It is a fool-proof order. The only issue is, it’s certainly overpriced. They should charge a $ 3 – 5 less. After all, it’s fried chicken… not foie gras. Service is hit or miss, but with all the other 5 star factors in play, I can overlook the few times that the service was poor and can give this place 5+ stars just for the jjamppong alone. I am a happy and proud regular :)

Typically I go to Hyo Dong Gak on 35th street to get my jjangjjang myun(noodles with black bean sauce) fix however my Korean friends recommended that we try Dong Chun Hong instead as they thought their quality of jjangjjang myun was better. First of all this place was very clean and service was friendly. I have to say my friends were right and the jjangjjang myun was the best I have had. Hyo Dong Gak and Shanghai Mong can not compare in my book. We also ordered the Tang Su Yuk(fried pork with sweet & sour sauce) and Uringi(crispy fired chicken with hot & sour soy sauce). Both dishes featured a lightly fried with a crispy outer layer. The meat somehow stayed extra crispy even though it was tossed in the addicting sauces. This place is a winner for sure if you are craving jjangjjang myun. I will surely return for more jjangjjang myun and also to try out their kanpunggi(Fried chicken with garlic sauce).
