Excellent meal and great service! We had a business meal here tonight, and from the attentive bar staff to the table, the experience was perfect. Small venue, but great food. The escargot is really the go to starter and is perfectly prepared, as you would expect from a top notch French restaurant. The special tonight was a fall off the bone lamb shank, and the tarts at dessert were fantastic both in presentation and taste. The wine list is not extensive, but the selections are all reasonable and tasty. The final bill was well within expectations, proving once again that it doesn’t have to be super expensive for great food in NYC.

I ate here with a few friends and my husband in September of 2013 and it was amazing. Each dish was prepared to perfection! The weather outside was perfect so sitting outside gave it the perfect ambiance. They had a nice wine list. And important to my husband Gluten Free dishes which is harder to find in French food. We will definitely be back!

All looked good on Unilocal but the reality was slightly different. The place is nice but the food was just a no go. Terrine de foie gras was damn bad, and served with oily croutons, nonsensical. Both the coq au vin and the boeuf bourguignon were over over cooked, which is no small accomplishment given the recipe. And I’m not complaining about the fact that the menu was all winter food, while today was the 1st of April. Maybe we were unlucky, but all signals no sense of what good food is.

Cute neighborhood French restaurant. We came here on St Patricks day and ate at the bar, and the food and service was really good. Also sitting at the bar was a large group of friends going out to dinner to celebrate the feast day for St Patrick. We tried the grilled calamari and mussels(white sauce with garlic) to start, and it was well paired with white wine and beer. The complimentary bread dips well in the mussels sauce ;-) For main entrée, we tried the puff pastry(vol au vent), which was quite photogenic, as well as the hanger steak. Both were delicious! Five stars here because it’s a neighborhood joint that seems to attract regulars, the food is good, and the service was exceptional. Will be back!

My friends and I had brunch here on a Saturday and were seated immediately. We enjoyed delicious coffee, juices, and bread! Their eggs benedict were delicious. It came with a side of green salad and was perfectly dressed. My friends enjoyed croque monsieur and croque madame; they were in love with it! Service was great!

Disappointing. When I walked in with two friends the hostess was extremely rude from the beginning. I had by mistake made a reservation for 2 instead of 3 and she was very rude about it. She told me it was my fault and that next time I should be more careful. She then proceeded to give us the worst table in the restaurant and when I asked if it was possible to sit elsewhere she snapped at me. I told her we will be going elsewhere because of her rudeness but then she insisted she will get us another table. It was a bad beginning. The escargot wasn’t great either — very little taste and the sauce was basically boiled water. The main meals of hanger steak and chicken were also sub par. Will not be returning back mostly because of the service and the hostess.

Had two good experiences here with my family for lunch and brunch. We all enjoyed our meals and dessert. Good service and nice place for a quiet meal. Will be back again.

First off this place is beautiful, you feel almost transformed walking inside. Went here with a large group at an off time, but the service was great and food was great as well. I got th steak, others got the stew and everyone loved their meal. The Strawberry Neapolitan was delicious.

My wife and eat at Deux Amis maybe once a month. It’s a great neighborhood spot in the midtown east area. The food is consistently good from the salmon to the hanger steak and there is usually an interesting special to try. Hot French rolls start you off. They have a good selection of Belgian beers and a nice if not extensive wine list. The profiteroles for dessert are a must! The wait staff is very friendly, too. Tatiana is a favorite! Highly recommend.

A nice cozy little place. Very nice ambiance. And the food was mindblowing. We went there for a team dinner, hence I could try a lot of things on the menu. I never knew that snails could taste so good ! Escargot, you beauty ! We also ordered the Vol Au Vent, the grilled calamari salad and the mussels with white wine garlic sauce, and I am still thinking of all these dishes while I am writing this review. All of them were so good. I would definitely recommend the Vol Au Vent. I had the Steak au Poivre for my entrée, and it was a perfect medium rare. Ah, last but not the least, the bordeauxs were amazing too. I am not big on wine but they complemented the food perfectly. The french know their food, period ! I am definitely coming back to Deus Amis. Keep up the good work fellas :)

Lovely little French restaurant. Was dining alone, elected to sit at the bar. The Crevettes Risotto appetizer is the perfect size. Sauce is tangy and just rich enough. Menu description included tomato and mushroom, but honestly neither were present enough to be particularly noticeable. The bronzini is spectacular. Huge crispy thick filet split in half stacked atop fresh sautéed spinach and beautiful steak fries. Couldn’t eat it all and that made me sad. The bartender is polite, attentive and a sweetheart. Ambience is perfect and a pair of utterly charming local neighborhood gentlemen made the entire experience a delight. Who knew there were swashbucklers in Murray Hill…

I will definitely come back to Deus Amis. They know what they are doing — the escargot and beef bourguignon(had to google that) were cooked to perfection. The few pieces of bread I had left were for dunking in the leftover sauce — and there wasn’t much leftover. Easily one of my favorite places in NYC. Very intimate interior, friendly staff, and super tasty french cuisine. 5 stars no doubt.

I was recommended the veal stew, wasn’t disappointed, sat at the bar as I was on my own, locals were chatty and atmosphere was friendly. Beer on tap and a great wine selection. Will be back for sure.

I have eaten at Deux Amis at least ten times over the last six years. For the most part it was consistently excellent. I loved the cassoulet, steak frites and veal risotto especially. Maybe it was an off night, maybe they changed vendors, who knows, but last week the NY Strip steak was awful. Two of us ordered it — it was a scrappy, gristly and tough little piece of $ 27 meat. I buy better quality beef at the grocery store. It was served with«mesclun» greens which was actually just green leaf lettuce. The fries, however, were excellent. It seemed to us that perhaps their costs went up or something, but that they were definitely scrimping and cutting corners. They have a decent selection of wines, though they are almost all over priced. I just don’t think a $ 60 bottle of wine goes with a $ 24 entrée, especially given the huge selection of wines available in the $ 30 range elsewhere and there’s nothing like seeing a bottle on a list that sells for $ 57 that you buy at the liquor store for $ 10.99. I’ll most likely go back — It’s a cute place and its in my neighborhood, but based on my last meal, I’ll probably wait until it’s cassoulet season.

Dog friendliness outside. Friendly place. Want to give it 4.5 stars. Worth a visit if you can get a seat. They could double the prices if they wanted. Portions are European — and that’s a good thing! I feel great after eating here and they have Cointreau. Reservations suggested and try to dress a little nicer this time. ;). Update. The last time I ate here I forgot my wallet and they were cool about it.

My favorite neighborhood French cuisine. The service is always great quality and they are very accommodating. Located on a side street, We enjoy sitting outside and taking in the bustle of the restaurant.

This place offers your traditional French fare, but unfortunately nothing really stands out as superior. My friend and I dined here on a Saturday night and were easily able to get a table even with a midday OpenTable booking. It doesn’t seat a ton of people, and it can get kind of cramped. I had their short ribs which were kind of stringy, but had good flavor overall. The standout for our meal was the mussel appetizer in the saffron sauce. I’d come back just for those! Final impression is that this is a good option for French cuisine, but I don’t see it as anything really exceptional.

Respectable neighborhood bistro with classic appeal. I loved the old school interior and authentic decorative touches. The service was pleasant and friendly. Foodwise it was fine. The beet salad was good but only came with one goat cheese seared puff. It definitely could use a 2nd puff. The dressing was also excellent with this dish. I enjoyed the cassoulet but it was a bit heavy handed in fennel and a touch gamey. The quality of the steak frites was only OK. The raspberry napoleon was a sweet way to finish. Overall, I enjoyed the evening.

This quaint French restaurant is quite the gem. I came here for dinner with Lapin yesterday. It was fairly easy to make reservations for the time we wanted. The place wasn’t packed but it was fairly busy. Our waitresses were attentive but one of them had a weird sense of humor. We ordered a soufflé for dessert and on the menu it said the wait time was 20 minutes. We were talking while waiting for our dessert and the waitress said in a very deadpan voice that we will have to wait 2 days for the soufflé and walked away while still talking. I am not sure if she was joking or not, but it was a bit odd. Lapin ordered Escargots and he loved it. He loved dipping the warm bread into the leftover garlic sauce. I ordered the Vol Au Vent which was delicious. Lapin even remarked it was the first time he heard me using the word«delicious» to describe a meal. The puff pastry was crispy and cream sauce was rich and went amazingly well with the lettuce the pastry was displayed on. The chicken was soft, tender, and melt in your mouth deliciousness. Lapin ordered Boeuf Bourguignon for his entrée. The portion was a smaller than expected but the stew was rich and hearty. The waiter was generous enough to bring extra pieces of bread to soak up all the yummy gravy. I had the pan roasted chicken breast with potato gratin. The chicken was tender but it was a bit bland and underwhelming. The chocolate soufflé was good but we both liked the pistachio ice cream that came with it. The pistachio ice cream was sweet and had an understated pistachio taste. Lapin would definitely visit again, even if its just for the escargots and pistachio ice cream.

I tried Moules Marinières $ 19(Mussels with Pommes Frites à Votre Choix), Escargots $ 11(Served in Classical Way, with Virgin Olive Oil Parsley and Garlic) , Boeuf Bourguignon $ 25(Classic Beef Stew, Potatoes, Pearl Onions, Mushrooms, Bacon and Shallots) and dessert(Vanilla ice cream in puffs with chocolate sauce) Everything was good. My favorite was Mussels. You can choose sauce from Tomato Garlic or White Wine Garlic or Saffron Cream Sauce. I tried Saffron Cream Sauce. Although I am not a big fan of mussels, this sauce was so good that everyone tried to eat the sauce in the bottom of plate by dipping with bread. Beef stew was very good, too. My friends got Hanger Steak au Poivre & Pommes Frites $ 24(with Sautéed Fingerling Potatoes Spinach & Mushroom Rosemary Sauce) and Saumon Grillé $ 22(Grilled Salmon with Basil Mashed Potatoes, Orange Balsamic Dressing). Both of them looked very good. Hanger Steak comes with green salad, too. My friend who often order salmon whenever eats out said she never saw a salmon with mash potato and she enjoyed her Basil Mashed Potato. I want to come back this restaurant to explore more. It would be nice to eat at outside table next time.
