We proudly provide quality dental care to Manhattan, New York and surrounding areas. Our featured services are general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, teeth whitening, and dental implants. Dr. Wank is a specialist in Periodontics. He is one of the few dentists in NYC who performs General Dentistry with a sub-​specialty in Periodontics. He is post graduate trained and is a board-​eligible periodontist.

Once you have met Dr. Wank, there is no need to go back and forth from dentist to dentist, as his unique training allows him to provide you with any procedure you may need. He performs dental implants, as well as prosthetic crowns, orthodontics (Invisalign braces), teeth whitening, cosmetic dentistry including porcelain veneers, inlays, and onlays, tooth extraction and other oral surgery, TMJ treatment, gum treatment, dentures, root canals, and children’s dentistry.

History

Established in 1989.

Dr. Wank graduated from New York University (NYU) in 1986. He then completed his residency at the NY Veterans Administration for one year, before continuing his work there for two more years, where he earned his specialty in Periodontics. He has built a practice in NYC since then. Having a specialty in Periodontics, Dr. Wank has a better understanding of the foundation of the teeth, which provides for a longer lasting prosthetic treatment and a comprehensive perspective on dental care.

Dr. Wank is a graduate of the NYU college of Dentistry. He completed a General Practice Residency at the NY Veterans Administration Hospital in 1987. He then completed a two year Post Graduate Program in Periodontics at the same hospital, which is located across the street form the NYU dental school on 24th and First Ave. He has served as president of of the NYU College of Dentistry alumni association, as well as the Eastern Dental Society which is a component of the NY County Dental Society. He sits on the peer review board of the Dental Society as well.

Dr. Wank is a true professional. Far superior dental work than most.
After going to several dentists in NY I can truly say Dr. Wank is the best.
The prices are reasonable for excellent dental work.
He will tell you like it is and explain all procedures plus give you options for your dental work.
His staff is really helpful. The office is clean and comfortable.
If you have an emergency they will fit you in that is really important when you are in need.
Now my family have become patients of Dr. Wank and everyone know he is the best dentist
we have ever gone to.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Wank’s for a while, and I honestly cannot say enough great things. He’s very knowledgable about the field and professional, and I can describe his staff in the same way. The office is clean, and even when I had problems either in the chair or when paperwork was concerned, it was handled maturely and effectively, which matters more to me than the problems themselves. Dr. Wank himself is funny and personable, and even though I don’t look forward to the dentist he makes the experience so much better. I will definitely use him as my dentist as long as I am in NYC, and I will refer others to him as well.

I was seeing Dr. Wank for well over a year. I think for annual cleanings, he is great at that but his bed side manner really left a sour note in mouth. Not only was he asking and commenting on my looks but at certain times he would make very inappropriate remarks to me. (Pertaining again to my appearance) Additionally I kept looking at my EOB statements from my dental insurance and I was wondering why I was going through my benefits so fast. It turns out they were billing through their long island office, which my insurance didn’t accept. When I called my insurance they told me, «oh you’re going to his long island location.» No, I was going to the Manhattan office, which accepts my insurance. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt and say that was a clerical error, though it might not be. I had gone there several more times for cavities to be filled but I always wondered why I was being charged different amounts and when I called to inquire they said it was what my insurance «covered,» the same insurance that they were billing to the wrong office under. It was just totally fishy. Again, it could have been an honest mistake, but I wish they had reimbursed the extra money that I forked over due to them billing the wrong way.

While putting in a bottom crown he drilled through a top crown to make the bottom one fit. The top crown fell out. Dr. Wank would not take responsibility. I ended up going to a second dentist. It cost me $ 3000 to fix what he broke. Worked without mask and gloves. Kept leaving my mouth to answer phones and look at files not related to my case. Not focused. He is very nice but nice doesn’t cut it.

I took her advice. She was absolutely right. And he’s fabulous.

After having a bad experience with another dentist prior, I was referred to Dr. Wank by a work colleague and was very pleased with my hour long visit. I had a deep cleaning, XRays, a check up and had some bonding done. Everyone in the office was professional and the office was comfortable and clean. Dr Wank was personable and professional as was his hygienist. I will definitely be back.

Please do not go to this dentist. When I moved to NYC 2 years ago, I began seeing Dr. Wank. There was a tooth that needed a crown and he convinced me that the route canal needed to be re-​done and that he could rightly fix a crown on there. I trusted him. Then while doing a filling on another tooth, he hit the nerve causing me to get another route canal. I just received a cleaning 3 weeks ago where Dr. Wank’s report was that I was all good. No cavities and no need for work. Just last week, an abscess appeared on my gum. I went to another dentist only to find that the 2 route canals are infected and I am now on antibiotics and have to get the 2 crowns redone. I may not be able to save one tooth. Aside from this treatment all having to be redone, less than 2 years later, he also has very poor and unprofessional manners. He tries to get more work done for you just because you have coverage left on your insurance. He also has fell asleep before while doing work and has taken personal phone calls in the exam room with his son.

Friendly, sure, but not a great dentist. I hate dentists, terrified of them, I informed Dr. Wank of that.. But as tooth problems go… They have to be taken care of at some point. So I went.. For a tooth extraction and a root canal and a filling. He would waste my time trying to convince me to get things done that I repeatedly said I had zero interest in doing, and also decided to work on my teeth without applying any numbing agents. After I complained about the pain he said that he «assumed I wouldn’t want to be numb for 3 hours for just a small procedure. «No, dr. Wank, I’m not paying you hundreds of dollars to ‘assume’ I prefer to feel pain. I’ve since switched to a new dentist in Queens, and she has truly made me realize how terrible he really was.

As someone whose had at least a dozen dentists over two continents, I can definitely say that Dr. Wank is FANTASTIC! My boyfriend found him on ZocDoc for an emergency procedure on a SUNDAY MORNING! He was the only appt of the day but instead of canceling, Dr. Wank came all the way out from Long Island to do the procedure and he was so nice and funny about it.
We’ve been going to him since winter 2011 and the appts are always quick and on point!
My favorite part: You get little text msgs to remind you of your appt and the whole system is going paperless *HALLELUJAH*
Honestly always look forward to seeing Dr. Wank every 6 months: D

Dr. Wank seems to care enough for a NYC physician, however I’ve had two terrible experiences with his hygienist and will never be returning to his office again.
She’s extremely rough, with no perception of my being in pain. The second time I went, to give it another ‘go’, not only did she waltz in almost 20 minutes late, for one of the first appointments of the day, she actually dropped a dental tool in my mouth and caused it to bleed. I pushed back in pain and she throws back her tools, gets up and leaves and says, «We’re finished here.» She said she would go get the dentist. After several minutes of no activity, I got up out of my chair and found her in another room with Dr. Wank bending over and fixing a part on one of his chairs. He said, «Oh, she didn’t tell me you were ready.» I told him about her actions and he said he would speak with her.
He called me the next day to see if I was OK, though I’m thinking it’s only so that I wouldn’t sue him. The first time I went, he also made sarcastic comments about what my insurance would or wouldn’t cover.
Overall not impressed. With the plethora of dentists available, he’s unfortunately lost this patient to someone else!

Dr. Wank and his office has always been a pleasure to visit anytime I go. He is one of the best dentist Ive had do work on me for one, but he makes ya feel comfortable, he’s a pretty darn funny too, but hes just a down to earth guy. He will help you out when ya need it. I have never really left that in real pain, and Ive had a lot of work, teeth pulled and drilled and all that. I had seem him in a few months and out of no where I had a terrible pain in my upper back teeth and called him and in a few hours I was in his chair getting some work down, few dentist/​doctors would have ya in within a few hours. His office is comfortable, magazines, T.V. a plus, and one of the receptionist is a very attractive young woman. Dr. Wank and his staff, one of the best by far. Highly highly recommend.

I don’t give 5 stars to anyone who takes my money but I will definitely give Dr Wank a solid 4. I’ve been seeing him since 2002 and my teeth are very healthy and happy as a result. He also handled a fairly complex tooth replacement – my front tooth was cracked in accident. He took the time to get it right and match the color and size. His cleaning tech, who I spend most of my time with, is very gentle and thorough and there is nothing I hate more than a dental cleaning. My grandfather was a dentist so I am picky. I can vouge for Dr Wank. Great Dentist and a nice guy. And what a name :)

I’ve been going to Dr. Wank for several years and am totally happy with him. Nice guy, very responsive, and is willing to give me appointments early in the day before work.
I also think that there is something odd about the nasty reviews below, these just strike me as so absurd as to be both untrue and completely inconsistent with my experience.

I have to agree with the other poor reviews of unecessary surgery. Please go elsewhere before settling on Dr. Wank.
I have been going to the same dentist in my hometown since I was young enough to see a dentist. Since that dentist is not in the city, it was hard for me to commit to regular appointments, due to convenience and proximity. Finally (after years of saying I would find a local dentist), I was referred to Dr. Wank (by someone I don’t know that well, in hindsight). I saw him and really liked him and his receptionist at first– friendly, etc. Looking back I should’ve gone with my gut from the first appointment. He claimed he needed to take care of some «POTENTIAL» problem areas before they turned into cavities, and picked 4 teeth he had to do work on. My entire life, I’ve had good teeth, have only had 1 or 2 cavities in total, and never have issues on my annual visits with my former dentist– always regular, routine, «you have good teeth» check ups. I should’ve suspected something now that all of a sudden some new Dr tells me he has to do all this work. He proceeded to bring me back 3 different times (which I’m convinced is some insurance ploy to get him paid more, as the work could’ve all been done in one visit). Fast forward about 6 months, and all the teeth he did work on are sore, sensitive to hot and cold, hurt terribly when I chew on crunchy things, etc. I started using sensodyne for the first time in my life to no avail. I’m afraid he may have done some serious nerve damage at this point… and will be going back to my old, trustworthy, dentist to get this checked out.
PLEASE avoid him!!!

I was so taken back by my experience with setting-​up then canceling an appointment with this dentist I unfortunately decided not to see him after all.
While making a first-​time appointment, the staff was helpful, though a little short and put me on hold a couple of times. No big deal.
However, we called back about one hour later to cancel the appointment after learning I would be out of town for work on appointment day. Something not realized until after I had made the initial appointment. I explained to the receptionist that I would call back to reschedule when I knew my full schedule within a couple of days. She was stern but professional.
No more than 5 minutes later however, the doctor himself called me back! Dr Wank questioned my cancellation with the tenacity of a state prosecutor, explaining «So you just SUDDENLY had to leave town TOMORROW???», adding «I find that a LITTLE strrrange…». Not only was I stunned that a supposedly busy medical professional would call me back to question my reasons for canceling an appointment, I was a bit shocked and even disappointed in his accusatory tone.
After looking at reviews of this practice both on Unilocal and one other medical review site, I think I dodged a bullet. Wow. Just, no words at what an uncomfortable, odd experience with the Wank dental office I had.

I’ve been going to Dr Wank for a while now and he has been stellar.
I have had, as i’m sure most other have had as well, bad experiences with dentists before but thankfully not this time. He clearly gave me my choices and has told me what work needed to be done and what could wait. Yes I need a lot of work. :(
He even answered his email @ 9 at night and I wasn’t even a patient of his yet. His office is right in mid-​town 2 blocks from Grand Central, his hours are great, in and out by 8:30am so no work missed. Fantastic!
As for the other review that had «needless» work done I ask this…
What did the BBB say? What did the ADA say? What did anybody of importance say when you reported these horrible actions? Or did you have this needless surgery done and not report him?

I also had some oral surgery done like the last person & it was also indeed unnecessary as it came to be found by another dentist. He did seem like a nice guy at first but in hindsight is more like a con-​artist by the pulling the old «you feel that sticky area (as he pokes something on my teeth), thats a cavity… actually its a deep cavity & needs a root canal» & then he goes on to let me know I need a porcelin crown etc just so he can collect all the insurance money. He also drilled my root in my root canal so far that it almost broke through the end of it, & he left a piece of tooth under the cap that was supposed to be closed but was left open by his mismeasurment that it later rotted. Upon going to another dentist to get all his mistakes corrected, the x-​rays of my pre-​surgery that he was required to send to my new dentist were virtually unreadable (what a surprise), but it did show that I had no cavity initially! Also, when my new Doctor took new x-​rays, it showed that w/​the rotted little part of the tooth he left became rotted b/​c he left a little hole/​mismeasured when installing my cap. I’ve heard so many bad things about this dentist upon my research on him after & he should be shut down, he is a criminal!

Had some oral surgery done with Dr. Wank. At first, seems like a nice guy. But, instead of fixing the problem areas, he performed surgery on unnecessary areas. When I asked him about it, he said that he couldn’t fix the areas that had problems because they were already damaged. I ended up needlessly paying hundreds for painful surgery that I didn’t need.
Don’t be fooled. If you go, make sure he clearly explains what he is going to do and GET A SECOND OPINION from another periodontist.
