Canines of New York

Although I no longer live in NYC, I was there this weekend and as I was indisposed for about a day there, had David walk Laura as he previously had when I lived in New York. I trust very few people with my dog, but David is absolutely among those I trust to be as responsible and as loving with her as I am. Two thumbs up (and two paws up!) for Canines of New York!

David and Sayaka are fantastic! My pup Norman took to them right away, and I can tell they really do go above and beyond to take care of him. On their first day walking him, Norman was naturally a bit spooked that there was a stranger in my apartment, so he hid under my bed and wouldn’t come out. David called me at work and calmly explained the situation and asked if I had any ideas. I honestly thought he was calling to quit and that he wouldn’t be able to waste any more of his time coaxing Norman out from under the bed. I couldn’t have been more wrong! He was incredibly patient and understanding, and with the help of my hair dryer and some cheese, he eventually took Norman for his walk. Since getting daily walks from David and Sayaka, I see such a difference in Norman! He’s more relaxed and seems much happier than before. I highly recommend Canines of New York!

Canines of New York is the best dog walking service on the UES and a breath of fresh air in the dog walking world. Before we found them, our two dogs had been going on group walks and we were always nervous about the walkers’ lack of attention to and awareness of the dogs. When our more nervous/​reactive dog got into a *second* scuffle with another pup on their watch, we knew it was time to switch. Since walking with Canines of New York, both dogs are noticeably calmer and happier, and we couldn’t be more pleased! David and Sayaka are fantastic to work with and clearly care about the dogs — they’ll send text updates from the walk, are extremely responsive to questions or scheduling needs, and are all-​around great people. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, caring dog walking service!

David and Sayaka walk my dog Apple everyday. I always get a text letting me know what happened (1 or 2). If my dog is sick or under the weather Sayaka is very attentive to her health and gives me texts with any concerns or details she notices. If you are on the fence about hiring a walker I say do it… I get such piece of mind knowing I have caring people walking my dog so I don’t have to rush home after work or feel like she’s alone all day.

Cannot say enough about these guys! After getting a little pit bull puppy for Christmas and bringing her back to the city I started my frantic Google search for dog walkers in NYC. I came across the site for Pups Before Profits (the name drew me in right away) and contacted them. Very soon after I heard back from David and we scheduled a meet and great with himself and his colleague, Sayaka. Idgie (the pup) took to them both right away and the rest is history. She receives two 30 min visits per day (So great that offer puppy house visits for the little guys who can’t be on walks for too long) where she gets a quick walk then some quality play/​hang out time. I always get text/​pic/​video updates throughout the day which is AWESOME so I know my little girl is doing okay when I’m at work.
Last two things that really stuck out in my mind about these guys:
They are unbelievable flexible. My work schedule changes from week to week and I never had any issues getting walks scheduled. I even texted late at night for schedule changes the next day!
Reasonable priced. This is NYC. People are crazy for their dogs and shell out huge dollars for them. So refreshing to come across a company that was affordable.
Will recommend Canines of New York to anybody and everybody!!!

I’ve been using their service for over a year now. They are amazing with my dog, always pleasant to deal with. I’ve never ever had any problem with them. They are always very accommodating when I have urgent care. I cannot think anyone else to trust with my dog, and I highly recommend them for anyone!!!

I used Pups Before Profits for 8 months while living in Harlem! David, Henry + crew are amazing! They were super flexible with my always changing schedule and took great care of Lucy! I am sad they don’t walk where my new apartment is! I wish I could give them more stars :)

Executive summary: David and his colleague Jason have been walking my dog Little Face for a little over one year, and I have been very happy with their services.
I moved to New York City from Philadelphia in April 2011. After having a great relationship with my personable, caring dog walker in West Philly (Sharon of P.U.P.S.), I was dismayed to see the manner in which many dog walkers ply their trade in Manhattan. Large groups of dogs walking together, tugging along a walker who looks positively annoyed to be on the other end of the leash. I was lucky enough to work a 10 minute walk from my office in Morningside Heights. So, instead of confronting the task of finding a dog walker who actually cared about dogs and took the job seriously, I just made do without having one.
Fast forward: in November 2011, I secured a new job downtown. With my longer commute, I knew that I would need a dog walker to maintain Little Face’s quality of life. I knew of David from an internet messageboard, where he frequently posted very cute pictures of dogs under his temporary care. I contacted him there, we exchanged some texts (he is always very responsive by text, phone, and email), and we met in my home. I was very comfortable handing over the keys to my apartment that day.
Since then, he and Jason have been visiting my place 5 afternoons every week to walk Little Face. I was very excited to see the photos and short video clips of Little Face’s afternoon adventures begin appearing on PBP’s Facebook page and Tumblr. David and Jason’s approach to dog walking (and by extrapolation, the nature of the entire PBP collective) is so different than the disinterested nature of the employees of many dog walking companies.
Finally, I am especially happy that David is almost always available to dogsit Little Face with just a couple weeks notice. In fact, as I type this review, I am visiting family in Virginia for a long weekend. I am enjoying my time out of the city knowing that she is under his care.

These are absolutely the only dog walkers/​sitters I trust with my pup in NYC. I have seen some really bad walkers around the city and especially in the dog parks. Other walkers take on too many dogs at once and often seem to not even really like dogs. PBP is a collective made up of only reliable and dog-​loving walkers, who also happen to be affordable and easy to work with.
David walked Sophie for me when I lived in Manhattan. She is a pretty difficult dog, a rescue who still needs a lot of work on leash training. David was happy to work with her and his love of dogs was apparent immediately. He doesn’t just robotically walk your dog. On top of getting your pup the exercise she needs, David actually plays with her and gives her the same love and attention that you do. He is the most dependable person I’ve met in any field. It’s clear that this business is his top priority; he never misses a walk and will tell you to pay him whatever you think his services are worth. Sophie is SO happy whenever she sees David! David also seems to be active in volunteering with dogs (you can see him working with Mighty Mutts during adoption events in Union Square), and it is so clear that he isn’t in this for the money, but because he really just loves dogs.
Now that I’m in Brooklyn, Marisa walks Sophie and has also sat for me over a weekend. Marisa’s prices are great: $ 15 for a walk and $ 35 for a sit, which is truly amazing when you compare to other companies, especially the larger ones. Marisa takes Sophie on runs, which I can’t do because of an injury, and seems to be the only person who can really tire out my super hyper doggy. She always checks in with me and lets me know how the walk went. She’s also flexible about payment and makes the business side of this stress free. She’s totally happy to do a last minute walk, so if I get stuck at school or work and can’t get home, I can count on her to bike over and take Sophie out. When she sat for me, she left my apartment cleaner than it was when I left, and it was clear that Sophie had a great weekend. I trust Marisa completely.
The walkers are all comfortable with all breeds. Sophie is a pit mix and they are happy to walk her!
