Not impressed. I understand that New Years Eve is a bit of a special case, but we had a subpar experience here for New Years Eve dinner. The wine was reasonably priced and pretty good so no complaints there. Our server was… eccentric to say the least and made some comments as he was taking our order that really didn’t get us excited for dinner. Our experience with the food was mediocre at best. We ordered the escargot to start which was tasty, but a small portion. The steak is where we had a bit of a problem. I ordered a ribeye medium rare and the steak came out rare. when i say rare, i mean COLD in the middle. I sent it back and it came back well done. Hm, not what you want from a steak ordered medium rare. i ended up eating it anyway because the rest of the party was pretty much done with dinner when the steak was brought out the second time and i was also pretty hungry at that point. Not a big fan, though.

This little place was pretty busy on New Years night with fancy diners eating steak. I had a lovely Filet but it was a bit on the charred side. It was still cooked well(medium rare). The frites are very delicious. I ended up eating most of mine and my dining partners frites… My favorite part of the experience was the current holiday lighting which makes this cozy place vibrant and brightens up the dim dining area a bit. Very romantic. I don’t know what it will look like without the lights. Probably still dim, still cozy with a French vibe. I think I need to get a different cut of meat for my next steak experience which I plan on having here. The prices are not so bad for steak either. The wait staff is very friendly.

We came her for my mother’s 50th Birthday and were not disappointed! The food, service, and atmosphere were all excellent. We ordered Filet Mignon, Lobster Ravioli, Kobe Burgers, a Ribeye, and an appetizer of fried Calamari. Everything was awesome; and I recommend it all! I can’t wait to go back.

Fabulous lunch spot on the Upper East Side. Our waiter was fantastic and had excellent knowledge of the menu. The $ 25 prix fixe lunch is a bargain considering you get 3 courses which can include a sirloin steak that was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Caesar salad was fresh, crisp, creamy and savory, all that a good Caesar should be. I will definitely go back.

Great place! The food was just excellent. You cannot go wrong with the escargot or the steak they have at a very reasonable price. The salads are also amazing. The waiter was exceptional and a true class act. However I give this place four stars because it was not busy at all and the hostess gave us a rather odd table by the kitchen. It was pretty offensive. However the pros vastly outweigh the cons.

My family and I dined here recently and were quite pleased. For starters, we had the mushroom strudel, the frog legs, and the escargot. All three were delicious, with highest marks going to the mushroom strudel. It was a strudel pastry filled with mushrooms, onions, and cheese. It was incredible. For our entrees, we had the cod, the lobster ravioli, and the grilled rib eye steak. All three were delicious as well, with the overall winner being the rib-eye. It was grilled to perfection and served to temperature. The bonus was the Provencale steak sauce. Normally, i don’t like sauce. If it is a really nice cut of beef, I like to let the meat speak for itself. Our waiter had, however, informed us of this legendary steak sauce that they serve and indeed it was everything he made it out to be and more. If I could only get the recipe out of him! It was that good! Unfortunately, we were so full, we had no room for dessert. Maybe next time. The wait staff was excellent as well and the atmosphere was fine. Will definitely try this one again. You should too!

What a great lil bistro! I walked in for a late dinner, and by late dinner I mean second dinner because I was still hungry. Sat at the bar and from the moment I walked in the staff were super friendly and welcoming especially toward a solo diner. The place itself was a cute, as expected, UES Bistro, very casual, very local. I ordered the Ribeye, mid-rare and it came out as it should’ve. perfectly pink in the center, and tasty and delicious. Will definitely return for another great dinner.

Place is amazing. Staff so friendly, food so delicious, price VERY reasonable. I went here w/my mother and girlfriend and it was sensational. I ordered things that I’ve never tried before in my life –like frog legs(actually not that bad) and no it didn’t taste like chicken. Haha Now I can put frog on my list of outlandish food that I’ve tried. Along w/dog and cat! Hey, I was in China w/my ex. The steak I ordered was so delicious. I ate it really slow so I could savor the taste. And you better believe that I tried my girlfriend’s and mom’s entrée. Girlfriend got chicken parm –also flawless. Mom had a different kind of steak –which was also perfect. The servers had it goin on. They described each entrée and special’s list in a way that made me wanna order everything they just mentioned. She was really great. I don’t remember our server’s name but she looked so much like this actress Olivia Thirlby. She was Juno’s best friend in the movie«Juno.» She was also in «Nobody Walks,» w/Jim from the Office. Anyway, she was great. Authentic, knowledgable, smart, nice, friendly, funny. All around a good person. It was a great experience and I recommend it. 5⁄5 starts.

My father and I brought my mother here for mother’s day and we immediately regretted our decision. Our table wasn’t ready so the hostess offered us a table on the porch that didn’t exist, so we had to wait for a table to open up. When we were seated, we asked to see the list sparkling wine by the glass. We were given a drinks list that did not include by the glass. The service throughout meal was similarly incompetent. I have no intention of returning to this establishment.

Had a pleasant dinner experience here. The service here is great. The staff is really nice and attentive. Food is good too. I had the sword fish and it was delicious. The crème brûlée is the perfect way to end your meal. I’d recommend this spot if you’re looking for a no frills type of bistro with satisfying food.

E-Scale: 5⁄10 I come here for their happy hour menu! The wings are really cheap for the UES as are the drinks The cocktails aren’t spectacular, but for the happy hour price, it is ok. As far as a regular meal goes, I do like the steak and it’s not bad for the price, but I wouldn’t come here if I’m looking to be wowed by my meat. Desserts are good, but it seems like everything comes out of a box. I do like the service here a lot. Waiters are attentive and friendly. The place can be cramped, especially if they seat you out on the balcony where you’re squished in with the air conditioning unit.

My BF and I went for an early V-Day dinner and it was wonderful. Very nice but not uncomfortable. Nice atmosphere(we sat in the indoor porch area). Friendly and attentive staff. He had Kronenberg and I had a glass of syrah($ 11, I think). He started with mussels in a wine sauce($ 10-something) and I had the arugula and pear salad(almost $ 11). DELICIOUS. I don’t usually care for goat cheese, but the flavors in this salad were perfectly balanced — the bitter greens with the sweet fresh pear made the cheese taste smooth. We had a hard time choosing a meal since everything sounded so good, but we both got the 10 oz. sirloin with frites(under $ 30) and we shared a side of sauteed spinach(maybe $ 4 extra). The sauce for the steak came on the side — a mustardy deal that went well with the seasoned meat. Spinach was good — I love garlic. The meal was timed perfectly too. I hate when you’re balancing plates on your lap because your food came out and you were still working on your salad. Like a Swiss watch — very unobtrusive and unhurried, but we never were impatient for service. My BF mentioned he was going to wait to have his 2nd beer with the steak and minutes later(we kind of forgot he said anything) without a word, right after the steak was set down, a beer appeared. The table was always cleared. I wish I got our server’s name so I could give him a shout out. He did a nice job. We finished dinner with a crème brûlée and I had a cappuccino. Since it was a holiday dinner date, I wasn’t supposed to look at prices, but the bill probably came out to somewhere around $ 132.00. Zero complaints. We will return.

I eat here enough for the staff to remember me, but not often enough to be a regular. I really should go more often. The steaks are tasty, and while they are smaller than most steakhouses in NYC, it is also significantly less expensive. Which suits me, as the smaller steak is all I want anyway. Last night I had a group dinner at BLS and they really took great care of us. The service was great, the noise level on the quite side, and the«other» foods we ordered besides steak, very tasty. The creamed spinach and the shrimp St. Tropez was excellent as is their own in house steak sauce. The only minor complaint/comment I heard was that for a place with Steak in their name, the steaks on the menu were not given a prominent place on the menu. Perhaps a boxed highlighted section of the menu for the steaks?

I came here once on a date. I ordered the Sirloin(rare) and my girlfriend ordered the Seas Scallops with Shrimp. I’m a huge steak guy, and as great as my steak was, I couldn’t help but eat up more than half of my girlfriend’s scallops dish. I don’t have scallops often, but this might just be the best set of scallops I’ve ever tried. The server was also very helpful, especially in picking a wine. I mentioned my price range for a bottle of wine, and he recommended a few off the list based on what we ordered to eat. Very knowledgeable all around. Will definitely come back here again.

I ate here tonight for the first time, I found the waitstaff to be friendly, the food was very good. I had the Kobe beef burger with Bleu cheese, yummy! The meat was tender and flavorful, I also had calamari which was good but they should add seasoning. I had the lemon tart for dessert, a refreshing taste. Although I enjoyed my meal, here are a few areas where I think they could improve: Add more lighting, it seemed too dim. Offer Splenda with tea, and skim or 2% milk. All in all, I liked it! Fun place!

We were visiting a relative in NYC. They wanted to take us to a nice restaurant for dinner, even though they themselves can no longer eat, or barely talk, due to massive surgery to the mouth and throat to remove cancer. After looking at Open Table we chose to make reservations at Le Bistro Steak. When we arrived they were courteous and sat us quickly. The restaurant was a little loud but nothing out of the ordinary. Things took a turn for the worse after we were seated. First, our server was grumpy, or at least looked like he did not want to be there. When asked what we would like drink, perhaps bottled water or wine, my husband and I both asked for diet coke. The night went downhill from there. The server first rolled his eyes and said they did not carry soda. We thought that was a bit odd, so we asked him to clarify that there really was no soda. When we had him clarify, he said that he thought there might be some sort of generic on tap. We said we would like the diet generic or otherwise. He grudgingly went and got us the soda. At that point we heard music turned on. I am sure they turn it on every night. It was quite loud for such a small place. Our relative can barely talk, and we could barely hear or understand her, and we were right under a speaker. I got up and spoke with the nearest server asking them if they wouldn’t mind turning the music down while we were there. I also said I understood it is part of the ambiance, but that we wouldn’t be there all that long. I explained the disability situation to them. What I got was a grunt and an «I’ll try.» We saw the server talk to someone, and then she headed off to her tables. The next thing we notice is the music was turned up not down! I gave the server a look when she walked by and she said she did what she could. About that time our server came back and, in a very bland tone, rattled off the specials for us. We could barely even hear him! So, we sat there, not able to hear our relative or even hear ourselves. He gave a slight dirty look when he realized only two of us were eating. When they finally brought the food, I asked about the music, and he said they had turned it down as far as it would go. Really?! I have never known a stereo system to only be able to be turned on or off but not down. About half way through our dinner my husband asked for a soda refill. The server brought one for my husband but didn’t even bother to refill mine, which was also empty. The server basically ignored us once we had our food. We’ll never go back or recommend this place. We paid the bill and left as fast as we could because they made sure to make us feel our patronage was not wanted. As for the food, it was nothing special. Not bad just not memorable.

We love this place, the steak is one of my favorite ;) Not a fine dining, but you should consider it as one of the best bistros on upper east side! The owner is a great host and a real gentleman. We also love to order delivery.

Came here strictly for French onion soup and it was just okay. The cheese was kind of clumped in the middle as opposed to crusted over the sides and super stringy — the way I like it. It was also $ 8.50 for a small bowl. The bartender was really the star of the show. He was friendly, accommodating, and funny. If we didn’t seem like the youngest people in there(by 30 years) I’d probably return.
