Avignone Chemists opened in the Village in 1929 and was forced out in January 2015 when the building was bought by an investment firm, Force Capital Management.

While I am not a Village resident, I do live in a neighborhood where crazy rent hikes all too often force neighborhood stalwarts to close or relocate. I’m seriously saddened to hear that Avignon will be no more in April. It has a selection of beauty and health products that are unmatched outside of France and the owner is kind and very receptive to the needs and wishes of his clientele.

Oh no! They building was bought up and they tripled the rent so they will be closing at the end of April. So sad. They had great customer service and products. What a loss for the neighborhood.

I love their product selection. The only thing I don’t like are the prices but I understand why they are so expensive. It’s a very boutique shop and it’s in a great location. The only thing I don’t like is the Mexican radio station they were playing. I was expecting more of a downtempo Spa background for such high end products for beauty and apothecary. But the sales people are nice and they have a lot of products I enjoy. I went back just to get a couple more paddywax soy candles tonight

the employees are lovely here, there are full ranges of a lot of hard-to-find european products. i came in for some mario badescu products and i found what i needed easily. the guy ringing me up told me that at the mb spa they only give out 3 samples per person… then proceeded to load me up with 10 free samples! overall a really pleasant shopping experience. go here!
