I’m an interior and lighting designer. Also a photographer. So I have been having some of my photos of lighting installations or light fixtures utilized as motifs for wallpapers. FUN.
Got one paper up and said, «Oooh — I should have that as a SUIT!»
Then a big design industry party was coming up, at a former legendary NYC nightclub, and the theme of the party begged for this suit. So without much lead time (I think 6 – 8 weeks before the party) I contacted Alan David.
Many fittings and meetings later, one of the most amazing suits you’ve ever seen was made for my body. It was not cheap — mine was way more expensive than yours would be. I made drawings, had three different textiles, was very specific with how the pattern should align with itself across the three pieces of the suit.
I was not an easy client! Probably their worst nightmare. They were all professional, friendly and helpful.
And Man, What a Suit!
It was such a crazy pattern with so much color I knew I had to have a refined, polished suit in order to not look like a clown.
Not to brag, but the professional interior design community of New York rallied around me all night at that party and the praise was stunning. There was no contest, of course, but I heard many people throughout the night telling me, «Best of Show», «You win the prize» et cetera.
THE LADIES LOVED ME !! I met so many people. And I have a portfolio project. My design — Alan David’s fabrication. It’s perfect.

WOW! From start to finish these guys hold themselves to the utmost professionalism. I bought a beautiful custom Scabal Tuxedo from them. I usually have a tough time finding suits and clothes that fit me well as I have broad shoulders. The Tuxedo was custom to my body and fit perfectly. I got so many compliments on my wedding day. When it comes to men’s clothing (and I’m sure women’s, too), there is no better custom shop on the entire east coast than Alan David Custom. Alan has assembled a top-​flight team of professionals to make your custom clothing experience an outstanding one. Alan himself has an incredible eye — he knows fabric like no one else I’ve ever seen (and he has dozens and dozens and dozens of books). He know how they wear and how they look (I’m not one to look at a swatch and know how the suit will look at full scale — Alan is incredible at this). He’s also a great listener — he can understand what you want and your style when he talks to you, and he can translate that into any number of looks. I’ve gotten everything here — suits, sport coats, trousers, shirts, ties, and topcoats. I’ve never once been disappointed. His measuring process is PRECISE — most custom clothes fit like a glove at the first fitting. He and his expert tailors won’t miss even the slightest adjustment — and they won’t let you leave until you’re 100% satisfied. His sales team is great, and you can’t beat his customer service (ask for Elsie — anything you need, she’ll get it done). Need it in a rush? No problem! Need a weekend appointment? No problem! Alan David Custom is indispensable to me — I enthusiastically recommend.

Short of time — Have left the men’s wedding clothing to last as how difficult can it be to find Tuxedo accessories like a waist coat jacket or a tie — well we did leave to the end where Barneys etc did not have what we were looking for. we found them on Unilocal and went to their store for Tux waist coat and Tie and we could not have been happier with their customer service and quick turn around time for two sets ordered. I would recommend them to all searching for custom fit clothing to go and visit their store

This is a phenomenal place to get a perfectly fitting suit. At 5’6 and a 28″ waist, it is next to impossible to find something off the rack.
I purchased two suits from Alan David Custom — a classic navy in December 2012 and a charcoal in April 2015. Alan and the staff remembered me even over two years later.
Alan makes you feel at home the moment you walk in the door and answers your questions very patiently. He walks you through how the suit is constructed and guides you through the fabric options. The basted fitting where every thread is fussed over is truly an experience. Alan works within your budget and there is never an upsell.
I have enjoyed Alan’s product and service so much that I even brought a friend in who purchased a suit.
This is a place where old world customer service and commitment to quality still live. Highly recommended.

Best place in New York CIty and the NY tri-​state area for a custom suit. I have known Alan for over 20 years and the quality, care and service can not be beat anywhere. If you are looking for a custom suit that you can not get anywhere else, Alan David is the place. He takes care of me all of the time and treats you like a friend and not just like another customer like other suit places. I highly recommend.

I feel compelled to write this review. I have had a long relationship with Alan David. The start of the relationship was not good. I was unhappy with the deliverable of my suits, shirts, and short jacket. But… Once Alan learned of my unhappiness he replaced everything and stayed with me every step of the way to ensure that I not only was happy but thrilled with the outcome. Well I just met with Alan and he delivered my first suit and it is perfect! i now have the confidence in Alan David to deliver top notch Suits, Jackets and Shirts. Please consider Alan David for all your custom Suits, etc.

This is an update as of 11÷5÷2015. Not only is this place bad, the owner just sent me this threat over email. Yes, really. I have posted a picture of this email to confirm authenticity.
«So its been so long that the review has been up. I received a phone call several months ago from a store that u also left a bad review for. I know who you are now and have all your information. I have had it for a while, but decided to not act on it. I am not a vindictive person, I would like to call you tomorrow and see if we can work something out to your satisfaction to finally remove the review. I am open to anything and everything. I am not going to use any of what I know about you against you, I am not like that. Min, I know where you work, right here in midtown, I know where you live, that you sold your apartment recently, I know everything thanks to a store you were at recently. I am not looking for revenge or any acts of vengeance towards you. I just want to know what I can do to, what in the world do I have to do to make it up to you. Think about it, I will be calling you tomorrow. Thank you in advance, I am sorry your identity has been compromised, we can discuss it tomorrow.»
Here is my original review. It is factual and correct, and I have a constitutional right to speak the truth (and not get threats).
This place is terrible. They were supposed to do alterations on 6 pairs of pants. They gave me a date to pick up my stuff. When I arrived, the tailor had gone on vacation for two weeks and none of my garments were ready. I asked the nasty Filipino lady if she could help me locate my stuff. After 15 seconds of looking, she told me my pants were lost and shrugged. Lost?! She couldn’t be bothered. She has the worst attitude. The quality of the suits were pretty bad when they were being done in Canada, and they didn’t have the right machines to do invisible hems on pants. That might have changed recently as I think they have moved their operations to Brooklyn. It could be the quality is better. The owner is awfully nice and so is the tailor, Clyde. But the people who work for Clyde, and the nasty Filipino, Adelina, are C players. Alan got my stuff expedited, but I would never go back. And he offered no discount. Of course after I posted this review he offered me a free suit. I didn’t take the offer.

Just an absolutely amazing place. Great service and very very high quality tailoring. I ve used custom tailors all my life but these guys are at the top of my list.
I got 3 – 4 suits from here for a very important personal function and they were just absolutely committed to getting me the best fitting and best looking stuff. Staff is ultra nice and overall very very professional setup.
Highly recommended. Even if you feel it’s expensive it’s worth every dollar you pay.

I cannot even come up with the words to state how wonderful this establishment is. They are the most reasonable bespoke tailor in the city and the entire staff cares about the clients and what they want rather than only a bottom line. You are doing yourself a disservice if you go anywhere else.

Been coming to Alan David now for about 4 years on and off. The reason I say on and off is because I can’t always afford it so I have to downgrade and go elsewhere. It should be noted that Alan David is probably the most reasonable place in the city to buy an American made bespoke suit. But if you can afford it, will be the greatest suit you’ve ever had. Just picked up my 5^th suit from them and it fits like a glove! The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and they have an amazing selection of fabrics. If your around midtown I would check them out and see for yourself, you’ll be happy you did.

Amazing, amazing, amazing. When I was getting married we made all the groomsman tuxedos here. 8 in all. The groomsmen were pretty fussy and we wanted a certain style lapel and we wanted all the tuxedos to be very slim with narrow sleeves and narrow shoulders etc. The tuxedos came in and a lot of the groomsman lived out of town. Alan told us to ship them and if there were any alterations he would arrange to have them altered on a Sunday. He was pretty confident that no adjustments would be needed. I really started to worry at that point because how could there be no alterations? This is custom.
Amazingly not one of the 8 needed needed adjustments except one needed a sleeve ¼ inch shorter and another needed the cuff a little longer. That was it. They all looked super slim, I cant tell you what a miracle it was. They must be really skilled tailors because I never saw something like that. 8 tuxedos, all perfect-​highly recommend.

With 2 pairs of pants in dire need of a hemming, I iphone’d «tailors midtown» on Unilocal– Alan David Custom came up so I stopped by after work. It was quickly apparent that this shop is not exactly a «walk-​in» storefront, but rather a custom tailoring solution for larger orders, weddings, etc. Oops
I think I surprised them by walking in unannounced with just 2 pairs of pants… (they’re inside an office building up on a 5^th or 6^th floor). Despite my confusion the sales guy and assistant were clearly veteran professionals and I felt like I was treated as a valued client despite surprising them.
Its hard to mess up a simple hemming, but they did an excellent job nonetheless. Took two weeks to come back as they were slammed with wedding orders though.
