Ace of Cuts Barber Shop

I’ve always wanted and undercut and, after careful deliberation and research on a good place to get one, I decided that Ace of Cuts was the one. The prices were fair and the place was very clean.
My friend and I were met by Peter, a very kind gentleman who seated and tended to him after a fifteen minute wait. As he was getting his haircut, I was led to the back by another gentleman, John, who asked for a reference picture of the undercut I wanted (it was a lotus, six petals). I was a little apprehensive at first because I thought the design may be a little to complicated to achieve, but John rolled with it. He has a very good eye and was precise with his work. After thirty minutes, my undercut came out a lot better than the reference picture I showed him; with my permission, he added his own flair and adjusted it to my current hairstyle (an asymmetrical bob cut). I walked out of the barber shop and received compliments on my hair the rest of night. I love it!
The verdict? The staff here is very friendly, accommodating, they communicate well, and they certainly don’t half-​ass their work. Just make sure to come here when you’re not rushing because the men here do put a lot of time and effort into their work, all to make sure that everyone walks away with the style they desire. My friend and I will certainly be back in a couple of weeks for maintenance! Ladies, make sure to ask for John if you’re looking to get an undercut as well. You won’t be disappointed!

Went here to get an undercut as it had the best reviews on Unilocal and it lived up to the expectations. John performed my cut and he was fantastic!!! He let me review the shape prior to cutting and gave me a shot of whiskey before he started as I was a little nervous having my head shaved for the first time ever. Very professional and friendly environment. Will definitely be going back here!

I came in for an undercut yesterday with a really simple design with four lines. The barber was really nice and explained in detail what he was going to do, showed me the line before shaving, etc.
I left happy with the design despite my neck burning quite a bit. I thought my skin was sensitive but when it felt worse in the shower I busted out the mirror and found that the back of my neck had been cut a few times. While the design looks crisp my neck is so red that I wouldn’t even want to show that part of my hair. I posted a photo.
I’m pretty disappointed.

Walked in on Memorial Day and was able to sit down with Peter after a quick 5 minute wait. Told him generally what I wanted but let him call the shots on the lining of my neck/​back of head.
Turned out great and for only $ 18. These guys take pride in their work and you can tell they have years of experience.
Definitely will be back again and I will recommend them to everyone looking for a quality cut at a reasonable price!

Just got my hair cut by Sam the MAN! He was great, gave me advice on what to do with my hair, more importantly, cut my hair with skills and patience! Will def come back and bring friends with me next time!

Wow, give the guys at Ace of Cuts a Royal Flush!
I rolled in here after my flight from ORD and before heading to dinner in East Village. I was needing a new haircut after some subpar trims here in the Windy City. I am usually hesitant about going to a barbershop that doesn’t primarily cut East Asian hair, but the reviews were telling me that this is the place to be.
Now that I’ve gotten my first cut, I want to come back again. This place rocks!
My barber was extremely friendly and listened to my suggestions and thoughts about how my hair should look. He threw in some recommendations himself and really took the time to ask what I would be comfortable with in a cut. During the session, he checked in with me to make sure I was feeling his methods. The cut came out just how I wanted it, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
Then towards the end, part of your $ 18 men’s cut includes a light shave on the back of your neck to remove some hair strands. This was so comfortable that I wish I had gotten the full shave. Before you get off the chair, you get a hot towel treatment to finish off the cut. I don’t think I’ve felt this comfortable at a barber shop since my days in Japan.
While I didn’t partake in any, there were definitely some handles on the side. I hear they offer wait guests a drink, so let me know if you bring a friend with you for the next time!
Definitely making this a new spot the next time I am in the Big Apple with just the right amount of hair to cut off.

Love this place! I was searching for a barber shop to get my first undercut, and after reading a ton of reviews — I realized I just had to come here to have Alex do it! He is incredible! I’ve now had two done, and can’t wait to go for my next! But they so great here! Great atmosphere– great barbers!

I needed a haircut and wanted to try something new so I decided to get an undercut. I found this place on Unilocal and all the positive reviews are accurate. I walked in and waited about 15 minutes before sitting down with John. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and let him do his thing. The cut was quick and precise. He did an awesome job. Will definitely come back for touch ups and future cuts.

Even with the many 5 star reviews, I was still skeptical that Ace of Cuts could make MY hair look good. However, I went as a walk in anyway, waited about 20 minutes, got my hair cut, and left knowing that this place has won my loyalty in the future. These guys are pros, are very experienced with all sorts of hair styles, and can shave a ridiculously good fade.

Summary:
Ace of Cuts was a fantastic barber shop. Before now I’ve been going to hair salons because I was super picky and specific about who touched my hard-​to-​cut Asian hair.
Context:
I would go to Japanese salons that cost me about $ 40-​$ 60 each time thinking that they were the only ones who knew how to cut hair. I completely forgot this was New York so all sorts of people go get their haircut all the time and so these guys get a ton of experience from varied hair types.
After seeing a couple of friends go to barbershops and have amazing haircuts I decided to give it a try. I mean why not ~$ 20 a cut? Definitely would save a lot of money.
Service:
There was no wait this past Saturday and I immediately got to sit down for a cut. The barber, Nick, asked me what I wanted and I just told him the usual short sides long top cut. That’s all the direction I had to give him and it came out looking amazing. I even had a bit of product in my hair ahead of time and he was able to deal with it. He did ask if I had a clipper guard preference but I just let him do what he wanted. This guy has been doing this for 18 years. I mean that kind of experience is legit — so legit that even after finishing and I gave him the OK he was like «wait» and resumed to make it look even better.
Perks:
In the middle of the haircut he let me know that they offer free Whiskey, water, and soda which is a plus if you had to wait. At the end of the cut he unexpectedly threw a warm towel on my head. I was confused at first but then I completely got it. That towel was a very pleasant finisher.

i’m talking about changing your hairstyle from what gets you through your ordinary day to what will make you feel extraordinary throughout EVERY DAY.
while a chosen hairstyle is a very personal thing that we all become very protective/​defensive of… we still need guidance and honesty from a skilled cutter/​buzzer/​shaver/​clipper to give us the hairstyle we need. that’s where Alex and his team of barbers come in to give you that advice and keep things real.
recently, i came in to Ace of Cuts and told Alex I wanted to switch things up with my hair. not radically depart from my hair of the past. i have awesome hair – that said… i trust Alex’s expertise in all things hair and hair products.
not too long ago, i wanted to grow my hair out a lil bit and get a Beckham-​esque cut. though it would have looked great. Alex knows me and gave me some sound advice though… that unless i wanted to spend an extra 30 minutes a day blowdrying and styling my hair… that Beckham cut was not a «goal.»
Alex and i talked about my new «do» and understood i wanted something a bit more stylized without all the primping etc. so 30 – 40 minutes later, he clipped, buzzed, and snipped my way to an incredibly cool haircut… he delivered on his promise and my wants for a slight different hairstyle where i could wear it messy or style it with product. keep in mind he and his dad (who cuts there as well) kept the barber shop open an hour later, so i could get a haircut – and a new hairstyle. most shops would have said come back tomorrow or just wouldn’t pay attention to my wants in terms of a haircut. service, satisfaction, value and style matter Alex and the other Ace of Cuts barbers. they always put the customer FIRST!
outside of giving me one sharp haircut, Alex also introduced me to hair products that they sell in the shop and meet my current hair-​grooming needs.
now i see some people complain about waiting for a haircut, but you can always call ahead before going to the shop. Alex or his dad will give you a pretty accurate read on the wait. that said, each barber spends about 30 minutes on a haircut unless you’re just getting a shape-​up or something quick… there will always be a slight wait from one haircut to another. you always get your money’s worth as they are never trying to rush customers out. good things come to those who wait.
AND $ 18 for a cut is a steal when you’re getting classic barber care and styling as well. if you have a problem dropping $~20 on a haircut, then you definitely have larger problems in your life to deal with… lol.
there’s wifi in the barber shop! plenty of outlets to charge your phone. and complimentary booze with your haircut or shave. this shop does its best to not only deliver great service and haircuts but also make sure that you feel at home.
i could go on and on about how spectacular this barber shop is. or how clean it is kept. or how friendly the staff is. there is no way to put that all into words without you experiencing it for yourself. head down to Ace of Cuts. don’t rush. hang out. have a drink. tell your barber what you’re looking for… your barber will help you find that «perfect» hairdo for you. get a cut and/​or a shave. feel and be extraordinary bc you got a ‘cut that represents you not someone else’s style.
while change can be scary, so can a bad haircut. the barbers at Ace of Cuts will make sure the change is awesome and there’s nothing to be afraid of…

Got my undercut shaved here with my friend and we both loves it I got exactly what a wanted with a simple design in the back, I believe John was the guy who shaved my hair, he was awesome! The whole place had a nice laid back chillll vibe, offered water/​alcohol and overall jusss nice, I am coming back soon!!!

I went in for a spontaneous undercut shave and I couldn’t be happier with my first! Everyone’s super welcoming and knows what they’re doing. Definitely going back for future designs and can’t wait

These barbers are as knowledgeable and practiced in their field as you want your heart surgeon to be.
If you’re looking for a cut from a professional, this is where you go. I had heard only good things about this place, all confirmed when I visited myself.
I came to the east village because I wanted a barber who knew how to do a popular men’s cut like the Top Knot or the Undercut. I was not disappointed. I got my hair cut by Peter. I told him I wanted the Top Knot, showed him a couple pictures and he was off. He knew exactly what to do and how to do it. Peter was obviously an expert. Not only had he done the cut several times before, but he knew how to perfect it. Things about the cut I would not have guessed from a picture, Peter was able to ace. He faded my hair perfectly and left my hair looking exactly the way I wanted it. You’d never expect your hair to come out exactly the way it would if it were computer programmed onto your head, but this guy knew what he was doing. I had long, thick, semi curly hair and so I was worried that a barber may not know how to handle my type, but Ace has an extensive clientele, so they do a lot of stylized cuts for women too, and knew how to handle my hair perfectly. I also saw them working with a man who wanted a more plain natural looking cut and they made it look stunning in record time.
Not to mention that this place is Cheap. It was barely over 20 $ for a stylized cut, a shave and a hot towel. The service is also probably the fastest I’ve seen, but also very friendly. I was seated right away and he cut my hair swiftly and skillfully. I could not have been happier. I never thought that I’d love a haircut, and I went in with a bit of skepticism, but I left feeling a confidence about my cut that I could never have imagined. I am definitely going to come back every time I get my hair cut.
Though I had and loved Peter, I’ve heard really great things about the other barbers as well, and I got to see them in action when I visited. They really seem to Know hair, and when it comes to cuts, they may just be the best in the business. Ten out of Ten, Seriously Recommend.

I know some people swear by this place. But to me, it was a waste of time and money.
The wait took forever, and the cut wasn’t even really that cheap. While I was waiting, they even kept blowdrying other people’s hair up in my face. Omg…
I got my cut done by an older guy (3^rd or 4^th seat. can’t remember), and he ended up shaving my hair all sorts of uneven. He was very violent with jerking my head, and it felt like he was trying to take my skin off with a straight razor. When I got home, my skin was red, and I ended up having to fix my own hair on in the bathroom mirror. Total waste of money.

I can’t imagine how you can complain about this place. For all of the places that will cut your hair for $ 30-​$ 60 and these guys manage to do it for a mere $ 18. And they do it really well! The attention to detail as well as the timeliness makes this a great place to just walk in and get a quick cut.
Did I mention that they have a great whiskey and other spirits available as you get your haircut? That’s just the icing on the cake. Honestly, for $ 18, give them a try. I really doubt you would be disappointed.

Just got my haircut here today. I went by the reviews (obviously the really good ones) and I was ready to commit. While there is a terrible review of a guy that lost two many inches, I honestly have short hair so that did not worry me at all. I looked at the pictures that are posted and saw some really good ones, many of which go with my hair type and style. So I decided it was time to give it a chance (also my regular barber shop was closed for no reason though they say they open at the same time).
I came in and I followed the advice from another review and asked for Alex. No, I have to admit, Alex may look young, but his ability to pay attention to detail and his desire to deliver on a great haircut really shin d through. I will also say, J went pretty much at open hours, and there was already someone getting a haircut and three more arrived after me and we’re waiting patiently. not only I got a haircut, but I also got my beard trimmed and cleaned up. All in all, I spent like 30 min. And I could see he really cared to get seem try correct on my beard.
It all finished with a nice warm towel to smooth the pores and a bit of a shot of 100% blue agave tequila. the complimentary shots included anything from tequila, whisky, vodka to wine. My regular barber shop includes free shots as well, but they are definitely not good quality, so yet another way to differentiate. One other thing, while the place itself is has no real say on the quality of the barbers, this place is kind of swanky, with colored hidden lights that change the ceiling color a mini-​disco ball hanging in front of the babe we station and tech music… Yeah, I felt like it was a pretty chill barbershop to hang and wait patiently for your turn.

Let me first say that I have never even thought to review a barber shop, because I don’t have complicated hair or get my hair trimmed regularly.
I told the barber I have been growing my hair out and wanted to keep the length on the top and just trim up the sides a little so it looks professional. Instead, I now have hair shorter than I did 5 months ago after repeatedly telling the guy I didn’t want it cut that way before we started.
Here were some basic problems I found shocking:
1). He said he would take an «inch» of the top at most, and showed it to me. Then he kept taking off inch after inch, because he was cutting in the same place a few times over. I pointed this out to him, and he still didn’t get it. This is a major problem.
2). He didn’t understand that just because there is hair resting on the side of my head, that it doesn’t mean that is the «sides» of my hair. Another major problem.
3). My hair is shorter now than it was 5 months ago. Clearly, this is not even close to what I was expecting.
If you’re into some amateur hour guy with a set of clippers, this is your place. Otherwise, you’re gonna feel ripped off even despite a free drink. Trimming your hair with $ 2.99 Kmart scissors and a beard trimmer at home would have probably ended up with similar results.
