I hadn’t even thought to review this place when it was open, but I feel a posthumous review is in order. Before it closed, this was a dirty little basement venue under a(tasty, and sadly also gone) cajun restaurant. I was here quite a few times, supporting some friends at performances. The beer was often skunked, the bartender constantly wandered away from the bar, and the cocktails were in plastic cups barely bigger than a shot glass. The acoustics are awful, pretty sure one of their speakers had been damaged and never replaced. And it’s really quite dirty. Glad it’s gone, just sad that it took the restaurant with it.

I’ve come to Ace Of Clubs a number of times as both a fan of music, and as a music scene scribe/photographer for my website and I really have nothing but good things to say about the venue. Here are some quick points on it. — The venue holds about 100 people and that is a fair amount of a draw for some of the more popular independent artists out there. I’ve seen great appearances by Warrior Soul, Hung, Gwynbleidd and more and while crowded was always enough space to move around. — The stage is a little bit compact, but it is larger than places like Lit Lounge, and even Arlene’s Grocery if I had to compare notes. Enough room to have a decent drum kit and a few guitar players. — The lighting could be a little brighter but depending on the band the ambience works. This might make you test your photo taking skills. — The sound system is good and run professionally. I have never experienced an issue with the sonic side of a gig attended there. — The back bar does serve you cheaply and quickly. Its NYC so only so affordable anywhere but not too bad here. — The door price is «usually» ten bucks depending on who is playing and remember to pick a name of one of the bands when you come in since that is how they are getting paid. You’ll be helping out. — Yes there are a few seats and side row benches but who wants to sit at a Rock show? I don’t. Upstairs is the terrific Acme restaurant which I love quite a bit. Many tasty dishes and beers along with a Cajun flair, but that is a Unilocal for another time.

The only distinctive thing about this place is that the bartender gives you your change with a very fancy flip of the hand. Also, there is a nice rack to hang your own coat. Otherwise, bands are probably the only reason why you would come here. There’s nothing wrong with that though!

Good points are the stage, the sound system and the lighting. The disaster is the staff, they are lazy, stupid and mean. During much of each set the sound guy would disappear upstairs to buy food. I went there to photograph the rock show, because the sound/light guy walked off for most of each set it was impossible, often he would leave the stage unlit. The bands want to photographs to remember, many of them were from out of town, I do this for fun and make no charge. When I complained the dweeb manager threatened to charge me $ 200 to take photos, nice. Zero customer service, ignorant aggressive management.

Great place to see a show. Nice atmosphere, small room but not too small. The acoustics are phenomenal. The band I saw was able to be loud enough to carry the room, but not so loud that you would be deafened standing anywhere within 15 feet of the stage. A small bar with a surprisingly deep selection of beer and assorted spirits. Quick bartender service. Clean bathroom, all things considered, too(because a place like this would seem somehow inauthentic if the bathroom mirror DIDN’T have bands’ stickers plastered all over it).

Hidden away in the basement of a Cajun restaurant, Ace of Clubs is a great, no frills concert venue. There’s a tiny bar in the back, and then that’s it. Seating along the walls, and a lot of space for a crazy crowd to let loose. And thus ends the most boring, mater-of-fact review I’ve written on Unilocal

If you want to see this place bumpin, come to the Creamsicles’ rock and roll variety show! Features a set by the Creamsicles, live band karaōke, belly dancers, burlesque acts, and a dance party at the end. Good times.

i saw my friend’s band play here a few months ago, and it was a fun night. the upstairs is the restaurant, and the downstairs is the bar/venue. i prob would have walked right by to be honest, if my friend hadnt been outside having a cigarette at the moment i walked by. there’s virtually no sign for the place. the basement is tiny, low ceilings, a few benches and low tables for your drinks, overall the feeling is claustrophobic. i doubt id choose to ever go back here if i didnt know someone playing a show here…

My band played here when it was Acme Underground, and again when it was Ace of Clubs. It’s no frills, with a decent sized stage and reasonable drinks. As far as the sound system, you’ll have to let me know cause I’m usually onstage, where I can basically only hear my drums. Maybe a little bass. It’s under a pretty good Cajun eatery too. Jim has Unilocaled!

I’m not a big music enthusiast or anything but I do like to listen to a good band and drink a cold beer in a dark cozy place once in a while and thats why I like this place. It’s not fancy and it doesn’t ever get really crowded so don’t go and expect to meet a buncha people. But it’s nice to just chill with friends. Restrooms are tiny but clean. Yummy food upstairs!

I do a show here almost every Monday night. Yes, it’s small and dark, but it’s cheap. The entertainment(and, of course I’m biased) is good and the beer is cold, served up by a hot bartender named Josh. Good, simple, unpretentious fun.

Very small place. Empty on a Saturday night even with a good band. Smells like stale beer.
