Uptown Shell Service Station

Introducing… the «tire nazi.» Worst, rudest, unacceptable service ever. Been going there for 5 years to get flat tires fixed and referred tons of people. They used to be fast, polite, reasonable. Today, I made the mistake of going on the mechanic’s «lunch hour.» The cashier told me to ask Jerry for help. I politely asked Jerry (who was eating and watching tv), «Hi, could you possibly fix a flat tire?» His reply without turning to even face me was, «NOPE. I’m eating lunch.» I said, «Well I was told to ask for you.» His reply, «I can fix it if you can wait 2 minutes.» I waited TWENTY MINUTES while I watched the other mechanic blowing (non existant) leaves in the parking lot. Seriously, there were NO leaves. Whatever. It was like a bad Seinfeld skit… instead of the soup nazi, it’s the tire nazi… except this was NOT funny and I wasn’t laughing. They won’t get my money or my referrals that’s for sure.

Rude! I was told by the mechanic would take 30 – 45 minutes to change a light bulb. Ok – not bad. I wandered around on foot for over an hour with an infant, returned to get my car thinking I’d given plenty of time, and the mechanic said he hadn’t gotten to my car with a really flippant tone. I questioned him on the time frame he quoted me, and he responded by handing me my keys and saying, «I didn’t tell you to come here.» So over an hour wait for no light bulb. I spoke to management and he was going to have the mechanic replace the bulb but it would take at least another 30 – 45 minutes. I had a cranky infant and no time to wait at that point. I should have taken a hint during drop off when the other two women waiting for their cars had nothing but complaints about the business.

Lots of negative reviews below this one but I got my brake tag there today and it was seamless, I guess I was the lucky one?

Do not and I mean DO NOT get your car serviced here!!! It is highway robbery! I paid almost 300 bucks for an oil change and to have my transmission fluid flushed! The estimate I was quoted and the actual price were two VERY different numbers! Never again :-(also expensive gas!

An employee (the brake tag lady) rammed into the back of my car with her car while I was waiting for my car to be fixed. She then screamed at me and said it was my fault because my car was in her way. When I stated that it was her fault because she ran into my parked car, she yelled that I shouldn’t be the one upset since her car had been damaged more when she hit it. Bizarre! Tried to call the station later to get the owner’s no. but no one would give it to me. They told me that he had been told about the incident and would call me. Still haven’t heard from him. You would think a business owner would not want his customers treated that way.

I never take the time to write a review but I had the worst experience with the female employee who issues brake tags. She was rude, unprofessional and had the worst attitude. She gave miss-​information and then had the audacity to tell me «I didn’t listen well enough.» She informed me only two stations in town had the authority to issue brake tags, which is a lie. I tried to call to speak with the owner and the female who works inside had roughly the same attitude and was unsuccessful at speaking with the owner. I hope this review saves someone the aggravation that they caused me.

Dropped my car of for noise and acceleration problems. When I picked my car up I was surprised at the final price but the owner was very understanding and nice. He worked the price down to what I felt was reasonable. When I started my car it sounded and felt perfect. the mechanic, Larry, did a great job changing all of my engine mounts.

So I was just checking times/​locations for brake tag/​inspection sticker replacement and Uptown Shell is no longer on the list. Not sure if that’s a city error or they’re no longer offering the service.

I have mixed feelings. The staff is friendly, but the $ 5 vig every time you need air in your tires is pricey. Is this because no one knows how to tip anymore? If their gas prices weren’t so high, I’d spend the extra for full-​service & have them checked gratis.
I had a part replaced here; while they did help me in saving money, the price quoted was $ 12 higher they originally quoted, and they did not call me to let me know my car was ready to be picked up.

Dirty facility. Poor service. I filled up my tank and when I asked about getting air for my tires the attendant rudely said I could pay 1.50 $ for the machine. When I asked about it since I just filled up he said «that’s the way it is, and you don’t have to come back. I’ll still sell the gas whether you come back or not» Outrageous! I won’t go back despite living blocks away.

Tried to get an inspection sticker at this location. The service man was horrible slow and seemingly apathetic towards the customers. Once I finally got to the front of the line, he spent a good while chatting with someone who walked by as if he was on break. I tried it again for service thinking maybe it was a one time deal. No sir, this is their way. Prices aren’t even decent so avoid it. Just drive over to the next service station if at all possible.

This is the absolute worst service station that I have ever been to in my entire life. It may well be the worst business of any kind that I have ever been to.
Here’s my story: One weekend, I had a bad tire on my truck, so I took it to Uptown Shell. The tire needed to be replaced, but they didn’t stock one. However, because I needed the tire ASAP, they promised that they could get the tire Monday and install it. Since it was a special order, I paid in advance by credit card.
I called the station Monday, and after being hung up on twice, I spoke with somebody who told me that the tire would be in Tuesday. I grumbled, but called back Wednesday. After being hung up on repeatedly again, I was told the tire wasn’t in and wouldn’t be in for some time. At this point, I asked to speak with the owner/​manager. The manager essentially told me that the tire would get there when it got there. When I complained (in an assertive but calm voice) that the tire was promised on Monday, he completely flipped out and began screaming at me.
I then told the manager to refund the money to my credit card. He refusing, telling me to dispute the charge with my credit card company (note: this is not the proper way to give a refund). I did so, and the change was reversed.
One person I know of went there for an auto repair, and Uptown Shell openly admitted to her that they broke another component on her car, but refused to pay for repairs. She ended up successfully suing the station in small claims court.
I could go on, but by now you should get the idea. Unless you want your car destroyed and the rudest service ever, do not go to Uptown Shell.

Don’t fall prey. DON’T! Gas 20 cents more expensive then all other gas stations on claiborne. Oil change here is twice as expensive as it should be. when I was getting my brake tag, they were also going to charge me $ 5 dollars to unscrew my massachusetts plates and stick on my new louisiana one. Um what? It’s these guys that make everyone assume every repair guy is out to scam you. Blegh. AVOID.

After my oil change from this station, while running errands, I noticed coolant leaking. By the next evening, the engine was overheating and smoking, the check engine light was on, and there was a terrible rattling sound. I was hesitant to trust the Shell station team again, so I took my car to the dealership. Two days and $ 390 worth of diagnostics, parts and labor later, it was determined that the radiator cap was not screwed on tight enough after the oil change. It is worth mentioning that this car has NEVER had any mechanical problems and I am diligent about oil changes every 3000 miles.
The owner of the station – who was unapologetic, accusatory and abrupt – told me that it was MY mistake to have taken it to the dealership, not their mistake for the oversight on tightening the radiator cap.
I wasn’t expecting to be reimbursed, but I certainly wasn’t expecting to be treated that way by the business owner. Car owners beware.
