Strange True Tours

We had SO much fun on this tour!
We booked for Hallowe’en day, bright and early and showed up (of course) in costume. Our tour guide was a woman with a huge love for NOLA and that really shone through. She wore a big billowing cape and made us feel right at home in our costumes!
Although the tour was a cemetery tour, she took us around NOLA a little bit first so we had some context and background of the city and its architecture. Upon reaching the cemetery we saw that there were tons of other tour groups there — our guide was great at ushering us around and through the maze of narrow passageways to give us the most personal experience possible.
Bestie and I had an amazing time doing this tour, both being totally crazy about tours like this! Even though we didn’t see any ghosts, this definitely deserves five spooky stars!

Awesome tour! I read all of the reviews and Jeffrey was not a let down! We were sad that we did not get to do the ghost tour but the strange true tour was awesome. We will have to do the ghost tour next time.

What a wonderful French Quarter tour we had with Jeffrey. His passion for NOLA is so evident. We had a crazy bunch from NJ and he was more than willing to work with us, to keep us laughing, to keep us in the shade and to go with our vibe! I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend this tour to either a seasoned NOLA veteran or a first timer. Our group was small which is so important in the FQ. We all felt that personal touch. Jeffery was our tour guide for the cemetery tour and he was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and its people. Fans of «American Horror Story» and «Treme» (as well fun Nick Cage stories) will love his info about the locations around the city where key moments were filmed. Obviously a historian and not a guy with a tour guide license that memorized some stories. «Nerding out» about new pieces of information that have become available about historical figures is what you want in a guide! He and his wife (also a guide) have strong ties to the city. She has relatives buried in the very cemetery we visited. While we were walking a resident on the street yelled behind us that we were in good hands with Jeffery. His deep appreciation of how New Orleans is a melting pot and full of different kids of people was great. Spreading the gospel of open mindedness and embracing all. If we’d had more time we would have booked their PG-​13 tour about the adult subjects that he couldn’t cover in our tour.

This was our first tour on our first visit to New Orleans. Fantastic way to start the week. It was just the two of us and the guide. She gave us lessons in history, politics, architecture, celebrity gossip and burial rituals. It helped to better understand everything else we saw in this wonderful city. Highly recommend advance reservations. Our guide even answered questions for folks doing their own self guided tours. Friendly, knowledgeable and accessible. What more could you ask for?

We took the Strange True walking tour through the French Quarter with Jeffrey and had a great time. The group was small (only five people) which was awesome. Jeffrey has extremely knowledgeable and is a great story teller. While this was the only tour we took, others in our group had taken the cemetery tour with him and had great things to say. I would definitely recommend his tour and will not hesitate to book another tour with him the next time I’m in New Orleans.

We did the walking tour through the French Quarter with Jeffrey. He was awesome. You could tell he was extremely knowledgeable and even more passionate.
It was a small group, and that was perfect. Far more intimate, personal, and practical too. Every time we passed another tour group, I felt glad we’d chosen Strange True. The other ones looked like sheep herders trying to control their oversized flock and keep them entertained with thinly-​spread attention.
I also appreciated how Jeffrey doesn’t put on some big, loud act. The other tour guides we saw just seemed obnoxious and annoying.
If you want to do any kind of ghost tour through the French Quarter, this is the one. My initial research pointed to it, and our experience confirmed it.

What an awesome tour, with a great, personable tour guide who loves his job and loves New Orleans. Will def do another tour with this company.

Rev Jefferey was an awesome tour guide. The experience felt very personal and not like the typical huge crowd following one guide. He knew his history and the city of New Orleans very well. We did the ghost tour on a monday night. The presentation of his ghost stories and the haunted houses as his backdrop just made his stories even better. We had run into a bunch of walking tours and I just feel bad for them because the groups were huge with one guide trying to convey the haunting vibe of the French Quarter. I felt like small groups just make the stories even better. Strange True Tours rely heavily on word of mouth and not brochures. I would really recommend them to anybody.

Jeff and the Strange True Tour were great. We signed up for the Ghost Tour, but we really wanted to do the Strange True Tour (which we could not make it to at the ordinary time). Since my wife and I were the only ones there Jeff was happy to take us on whichever tour we wanted and included some extra details based on our interests. We learned a lot of cool stuff and he made some great recommendations about New Orleans.

We took the walking tour around the French Quarter. This was such a good experience. The tour is 90 minutes long and although you don’t actually walk that far, the route makes you feel like you’ve covered some ground. Jeffery is a skilled storyteller and does a great job of answering questions and is very personable. Highly recommend!

As a New Orleans local I must say I am addicted to Strange True Tours! I have had the pleasure of taking a Cemetery tour, Bike tour, Strange True tour and JFK-​Oswald tour with Strange True Tours! Every tour brings to life the colorful characters and historical figures that have helped shape New Orleans. When you take a tour with Strange True Tours you aren’t just a number that someone is trying to squeeze onto a sidewalk. Jeffrey and his guides engage with you throughout the tour as they expertly weave historical facts in a way that constantly entertains the listener. I have been sending friends and visitors to Strange True Tours for a number of years and look forward to contenting the practice as I know Strange True Tours will deliver every time!

Just finished the bike tour and I could not be more satisfied it was about 3 and half hours long and not strenuous at all. Jeffery is so knowledgable about the city of new orleans it is almost overwhelming! He is a historian as well as his wife and they definitely love sharing there knowledge with others. You can tell they are passionate about what they do! This is a definite must go!!!

About a year and a half ago, my then-​boyfriend and I were in New Orleans and took the Strange True tour with Jeffrey. It was a small group (5 people), and we loved it. I had been to New Orleans several times and taken a few of those big-​name tours, so I thought I was going to get a lot of redundant information, but we didn’t. Not only was the content great, but Jeffrey was a great storyteller and if you had any questions, he had answers. I could tell immediately that he enjoyed his job and actually cared about being a good storyteller, unlinke some other tour guides that I’ve had who were just going through the motions.
Fast forward a year and a half, and then-​boyfriend is now my husband, and we were back in New Orleans for our honeymoon! I decided to book us on their bike tour, the cemetary tour, and the ghost tour. All of them were fantastic. And this time, we met Jeffrey’s wife, and she gave us the cemetary tour. She’s just as good of a storyteller as Jeffrey, and we got to watch her yell at someone who was writing «XXX» on Marie Leavau’s tomb. (You shouldn’t do it, it’s disrespectful. And a felony.)
The bike tour was lots of fun, and we got to see areas of the city close to the French Quarter but a bit beyond walking distance. The ghost tour was interesting, and the only tour of the three this time that had other people on it. Being the night before Halloween, there were more people on the tour than normal — but it was still only a group of 10 people! We were walking by groups of 30ish people, and I can’t imagine trying to deal with that many people while trying to jockey for good position to hear the story. Blah! I have no idea how Jeffrey can afford to keep his groups so small, but I’m glad he makes it a priority — it really adds to the enjoyment of the couple hours you’ll be spending with him.
If you’re still on the fence… just take one of his damn tours already. You won’t regret it.

Of course, I was in interested in this tour due to its content. And the several great reviews helped too! Met Jeffrey outside Antoine’s Annex on Tuesday night, and he said he’d wait a few minutes for any walk-​ups. No one else showed up by 7, so we ended up getting a private tour! That’s pretty awesome.
Jeffrey was very personable, witty, and informative. Great at relaying the gritty history of the French Quarter. My husband and I loved it. We also thought it was awesome that we were enjoying our adult beverages while sitting on the steps of the Supreme Court. Yeah… in what other city could you get away with that? And our beverages of choice were The Jester and a Huge A$$ Beer… not subtle at ALL, haha! Jeffrey also doesn’t take any BS from the musicians across the street from where the tour ends (at Royal Orleans). They sounded good, but my first priority was hearing the tour, so I appreciated that.
We definitely see New Orleans in a different light after our tour… really not a «romantic» history! But very intriguing!

After a night on the sazeracs and hurricanes, we weren’t sure whether we could really face a walking tour to St Louis #1. But from the moment we met Jeffrey, our hangovers began to magically evaporate. He was wonderful, intelligent company and gave us the most fantastic personal tour of the area. We felt sorry for the other tourists being herded round like cattle as they must have missed out on so much local knowledge, wit and friendly banter. We were sad to say goodbye and wish we could have made time for the evening Strange True Tour also.

I felt actual pity for the other tour groups I saw with 25+ shuffling people crammed together like human cattle — with boring guides just phoning in a standard spiel.
For example, while Jeffrey gave us a 5 – 8 minute story at Nicolas Cage’s tomb in St Louis # 1, another group came by and the tour guide said exactly this: «Here’s Nick Cage’s tomb» as she pointed, then walked on. No backstory, no heart. They didn’t even stop moving!
Jeffrey is an AMAZING tour guide — his company is not an overgrown corporate behemoth like many of the other options. Look for small groups and VERY detailed, interesting tales. He covers everything, and does so with real enthusiasm and expertly crafted storytelling which keeps you interested the whole journey. He does NOT fill his tales with made-​up BS to «spice it up», reality is plenty spicy just as it is!
Our «Strange True» tour of St Louis Cemetery # 1 is something I would put on every mandatory «must do» list for NOLA — period!

A friend recommended to me and now I recommend to you! Jeffrey was awesome. Also it is a smaller tour group (5 – 10) which is great so you get to hear everything and ask questions. My bf and I took the cemetery tour which was very interesting. Definitely got more out of it than we would have had we gone alone. I will try out his other tours the next time I am in town.

The «Strange True New Orleans» tour was fantastic. Jeffrey obviously loves this city, has a passion for history, and is a born story-​teller. It’s a very entertaining and fascinating tour. Some of my pals were too tired/​disinterested to come along, but I’m SO glad I was brave enough to go without my posse. This is NOT those horrible giant group of bored tourists walking in and out of bars type tours. You can tell Jeffrey has enough stories that he could talk continuously for several days. This is a GREAT way to get a feel for the city and its people. And he’s genuinely interested in making sure you have a great time while here… definitely take this tour at the BEGINNING of your trip, because Strange True Tours is a great resource.
Also, VERY reasonably priced. Great fun. Make sure it’s part of any trip to New Orleans!

Great cemetery tour. I wanted to see some cemeteries while visiting New Orleans, and also get some history with them, and I feel like I got just what I was looking for with Strange True Tours. Located right in the French Quarter, at one of the first cemeteries created (by the Spanish, one of many facts I picked up on the tour). Our tour guide even gave us an umbrella to shield us from the crazy hot sun, which was much appreciated. I don’t think any other tours were given umbrellas, and I know while in the cemetery, where the sun just reflects off of everything, it was nice to have that umbrella.
I walked away from the tour getting everything I’d wanted from it, and really think it was a good buy on my visit to New Orleans. Our guide was very polite and enthusiastic, and I could really feel the passion in his voice. I recommend to anyone looking to get a brief history on a city that is full of history.
Note: just saw they got a bad review and am totally shocked. I thought it was great and really struggle to see how anyone could walk away feeling anything but thrilled about the experience.
