Sterling Silvia specializes in New Orleans-​themed and inspired jewelry, mostly designed by the owners. Despite the wide variety of local themes jewelry, you will also find home décor, small gift items, and several semi-​precious stone jewelry. Our specialty is sterling silver, nevertheless, a few gold pieces can be found here.

History

Established in 1988.

Sterling Silvia got its start in the French Market, just across the street from the current location, by Silvia and her husband, Juan Asturias. After almost a decade of working the booths at the Flea Market, Silvia opened the French Market Place shop. Now, almost 25 years later, Silvia and Juan are preparing to hand over the family business to their only daughter, Silvia Cristina. Sterling Silvia is known for treating everyone like family and going the extra mile to make sure you are a satisfied customer. Silvia and her daughter, «Cristy» design most of the New Orleans-​themed jewelry in the shop. In 2012, Cristy is scheduled to graduate from Loyola University in New Orleans with an International Business degree. She plans to keep the family business thriving and take it to new heights.

Business Owner

Silvia was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala. After a tough upbringing, she ended up working her youth years in New York in the Diamond District. Although she always wanted to, she never went to college. She started working at the French Market selling imported Guatemalan Handmade Goods. Slowly, she transitioned her products to sterling silver jewelry. She travels to different parts of the world in search for the best quality products to showcase in her shop.

I can’t thank Juan, the Manager at Sterling Silivia for his kindness and customer service. My husband bought me a ring for my Birthday while visiting NOLA. While hauling our bags to the car on our last day, part of the ring fell off. Of course i realized it after we were well on our way. I wrote an email to the store when I got home letting them know I’d like to replace the ring. Juan responded immediately and offered to replace the ring at a discounted rate. I sent him my information and that same day he dropped it in the mail. Juan and Sterling Silvia are what small business should be about… the people. We will definitely be back. Thank you again.

I love this shop! They have wonderful items especially if you want a piece to remind you of New Orleans. Many reviewers mentioned that there are silver items at the French Market for lower prices, and while this is true, the quality is not the same. Sterling Silvia pieces are made with heavy, thick silver and the designs are more unique and intricate. An example is the water meter jewelry — there are water meter pendants at the French Market, but the Sterling Silvia water meter jewelry has clearer lettering and more detail in the design (think high vs. low resolution). While the prices are high, they also run sales and promotions so you can still get their items for a reasonable price. I got a beautiful bracelet that was designed by the owner’s daughter, and it was 50% off. At the Uptown location I bought an alligator pendant for 30% off. The people are also very friendly and welcoming. I encourage anyone to visit this shop!

Came here looking for a specific item they had on the website. While perusing not once was I greeted or asked if I needed help. Also noticed that many of the designs appear to have been copied from Mignon Faget. Disappointed that I could not find what I wanted I went across the way to the French Market. Many of the items I saw in the store had very similar items in the French Market @ a much lower price point. I ended up going back to the store because I really wanted that pendant I saw on the website. When I returned, again I was not greeted but went up the the counter and showed the girl the picture from my phone. They have signs posted on the cases indicating all chains sold separately. Would recommend that one check out the FM first, unless there is something specific you want here.

It’s a nice shop, but it’s also overpriced. The first item that caught my eye was a pair of earrings (sterling silver, obviously), but for $ 120 I had to pass.
Sterling Silvia is directly across the street from the French Market, which is filled with booth after booth of vendors selling, you guessed it, sterling silver jewelry. I have no idea whether or not the flea market pieces are of any better or worse quality than Silvia’s, but I couldn’t spend any money here knowing I could get a better deal across the street.

I absolutely love this store and all it has to offer! It’s has the best Jewelry with a NOLA touch to every piece. I love each and every piece I have gotten from there! Each piece is very original. The Staff and Family that runs the shop is very helpful and kind every time we are in for a visit. I love the fact that some of there pieces go out to help those in need as well. I will always recommend this store to locals and to people who I know who are going to the quarter from out of town!!!

The last time I was in New Orleans I went into this shop while my husband was at Turtle Bay having a beverage or two. I was on a mission to find a new wedding band for my husband. We fell in love in New Orleans and wanted to find something that represented New Orleans. I found what I wanted there. Everyone was great. Silvia took care of me and introduced me to everyone in the shop. During the day I went back 3 times and bought something every time. I always get compliments on my jewelry and I let everyone know where I bought it and how great everyone is there. I will be back in New Orleans next week and my first stop will be there!!! So I highly recommend that if you are in New Orleans it is a must!!! If you can’t make it to New Orleans then check out there website.

Wonderful shopping experience for my Mother and little sister. I had my moms birthday coming up in a week and had missed my sisters birthday by two weeks (it happens) so I needed two quality presents. A good friend recommended that I try Sterling Silvia saying that they had «beautiful, quality designs» and the customer service was «top-​notch». I wasn’t disappointed!
There store is located downtown right across from the French Market and the parking wasn’t that bad (weekday). I walked in and was pleasantly greeted by one of the ladies working there who expertly showed me around the store. She listened to what I needed and helped me pick out two beautiful pieces, which both mom (who is very picky) and little sis (who only cares about being «cool») absolutely loved.
I would definitely recommend this shop to a friend or someone visiting the city. It was a pleasure doing business with them and I plan on shopping with them again soon.
