I grew up on the West Bank. I have very fond memories of going to Ruby Red’s in Fake Gretna(Unincorporated Jefferson Parish) with my dad when I was just a boy. We continued going there through adulthood, but I hadn’t been back since I moved away. I was cautiously optimistic when I heard on Unilocal that Ruby Red’s was taking over the old O’Henry’s location in the CBD. While there are other items on the menu, RR is known for their burgers. Hand formed juicy patties are their specialty, so that’s what I ordered. Like one of the previous reviewers mentioned, the bun was very plain. The condiments and burger were nearly perfect, so the addition of a better bun would serve them well. I added chili and cheese to the side of french fries that came with the burger. While good, I would probably just stick with cheese the next time. The chili didn’t really add anything special to the already good fries. It took longer than I would have liked to get drinks refilled and bring the check, but the place was very crowded. Despite the slow service, I loved Ruby Red’s. While larger and fancier than the WB location, it brought back great memories, and the burgers were great. I will definitely be back. I just hope it is soon.

This place has potential. There are a few issues though. I like the peanuts. I dislike the mess all over the tables and floors created by the peanuts. The steak burger was ok. There was nothing unique or special about it, very plain taste. The cheese fries were good. They were smothered in cheese. They use large steak fries. Our server was friendly, but clearly new to serving. With some experience this part will hopefully improve.

It’s a nice O’Henrys. Eat your peanuts and throw the shells on the floor. Limited menu(which I think is a plus) with burgers, chicken sandwiches and poboys. Couple of beers on tap. Grab your menus, peanuts and napkins by the door and seat yourself — hmm, a dubious start. The burger: high points — hand formed of quality beef. Good flavor, grated cheddar cheese, served hot and flavorful. Thick onion and tomato slices and they didn’t use iceberg lettuce. Bad? The bun. Ruined it for me. Anemic, white bread straight from Sysco. Come on, you can do better than that!!! The fries were steak fries(which I hate). They were served piping hot, but surprisingly they were limp and greasy. Grated cheddar cheese helped. In short, get a better bun, get some better fries and this place gets four stars. Oh — good service. Big plus there.
