Description

Specialties

Backspace Bar is a true diamond in the rough of surrounding dive bars that line Chartres Street. With its elegant antique finished wood and stone environment and menu of comfort foods including items such as brie, burgers, red beans and rice, cuban sandwich, breakfast all day and pancakes, Backspace provides a warm, welcoming experience that will keep you coming back for more! The unique literary theme and rare specialty cocktails featured at Backspace set it apart from your average bar, lending a certain sense of sophistication and class you won’t easily find elsewhere.

Famous New Orleanian authors are only part of the Bar’s overall concept, the other major component being its influence of mid-20th century pin-up girls – va va voom! Come grab a few cocktails and transport yourself back to a more genteel, glamorous time at Backspace Bar.

History

Established in 2012.

Exposed brick, granite floors, and exterior columns create an inherently historic ambience. Typewriters surround the bar. A mounted turkey hangs mid flight above a brick fireplace. Volumes of Capote, Hemingway and Anderson populate myriad bookshelves around the bar. One could easily envision William Faulkner, Mint Julep in hand, seated in the leather chair next to the fireplace.

Drinks range from your standard gin and tonic to specialty cocktails inspired by the authors’ drink of choice, such as a Cuba Libra, an Orange Drink or a Gin Rickey as well as the signature New Orleans Bloody Mary.

The menu includes a meatloaf sandwich, a The Whitman roast beef w/oysters, and a grown up grilled cheese with cheddar, Swiss and Gruyère, and breakfast served all day.
