History
Established in 1991.
The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) is an orchestra model unique in the United States. In September 1991, following the financial collapse of the 60-year-old New Orleans Symphony Orchestra, a core group of musicians formed the LPO as a musician-owned and operated orchestra. From its inception, LPO was dedicated to maintaining live symphonic music and a full-scale symphony orchestra as an integral part of the cultural and educational life of New Orleans.
The LPO now presents a 36-week season with over 125 performances in a range of inner city, suburban and regional venues. The 70-musician orchestra has been under the Music Direction of Maestro Carlos Migeul Prieto since 2005.
