The movie «Hurricane on the Bayou», narrated by Meryl Streep, is a documentary about Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in New Orleans. I was expecting more of a docudrama detailing how it happened and what is being done to prevent a recurrence. The story instead follow 4 musicians who are advocates of restoring the wetlands.
I wasn’t blown away by this movie being shown in the IMAX theater, in fact there weren’t any 3D effects at all. It seemed more like a big screen, so that was a little disappointing.
All in all, the movie was a lovely story with good information, although this entire experience was nothing what I’d expected.

Came here on a Wednesday morning and there were no crowds at al! Went to two IMAX shows and I believe we got a deal on the second show. There’s also an age 55+ discount too.
Enjoyed the Galapagos movie and the Katrina movie too, although the Katrina movie doesn’t use as much IMAX camera work, as you might expect.
I think the higher you sit in the IMAX theater, the better the view.

Excellent place to bring the kids or family for a fun time in New Orleans. We came here and watched the IMax movie on the Lemurs of Madagascar. The theater is huge and is well kept! For extra $$ You can also go to the aquarium while you’re here. The line outside to get tix into the show is ridiculously long and slow, def. Go inside and buy your tix. A con: this place is EXPENSIVE!

Watched the great white shark movie. It was educational & great. Nice large rounded theater screen. Very good

While on vacation in New Orleans on Thanksgiving week, we took in the acclaimed «Hurricane on the Bayou» IMAX film about Katrina and critical coastal wetland preservation, still in showing in this IMAX attached to the Audubon Aquarium. I am happy that I got to view this in New Orleans.
This is a clean and comfortable IMAX theatre, and this was a great documentary to view before heading down to the Jean Lafitte wildlife preserve (Barataria) for a hike. And if you want to have a beer while you watch IMAX, you can do it here. Way to go, NOLA!

This is a huge theater right by the aquarium. It is clean. We were here mid week to see a shark movie and there were only like ten other people in the theater. The screen was awesome. I am not really into sharks but still thought the movie and the effects were great. I would recommend this as part of the Audubon Experience Package. For $ 44 a person, you get tickets to the aquarium, zoo, IMAX theater and insectarium/​Audubon Butterfly Garden and you get 2 weeks to use the tickets. We loved all of them and thought it was a great value. Since the IMEX theater is next to the aquarium, I suggest doing both the same day unless you are staying within walking distance to them.

We saw The Haunted Castle. It was more video gamey and gothic then the shark and under the sea films I have seen in CA. I am sure it was made for the Halloween crowd and it had a cool «selling your soul at the crossroads» Robert Johnson feel, perfect for NOLA. The lead singer of the band looked a lot like Jack White. The rollercoster part was amusing and I like spooky stuff. I think I might have liked the shark movie better though.

Overpriced all around. This theatre tries to fool you into thinking you are going to have a better movie experience by their up charge. When you arrive you are greeted by a waiter at your seat with a dining menu. We paid almost 10 dollars for a popcorn that was cold. There is a 17% gratuity added to anything ordered.
If you want to spend $ 100 on a movie for 2, then go to this corporately up charged movie theatre. If they could get away with charging you to use the bathroom, they probably would. Go to the Prytania Theatre; It is a much better movie experience!

Lens was a little dirty at spots so there was big black spots on the sunscreen at times. Seats were comfy.
Hurricane on the Bayou was not great.

Saw Ultimate Wave Tahiti, it was pretty freakin’ awesome! The 3D effects worked well with the movie made you feel like you were surfing, diving, etc… I know this, because I do both, except not in Tahiti, just Hawai’i, California, and my home break. The theatre was clean and not too crowded, things I like.

This was my 1^st IMAX experience. Pretty cool! Park in garage and get your ticket validated. if you run oth ways, you can park for free. After paying to park everything, I’m willing to run.

On our last day in NOLA, after checking out of the hotel, we roamed around in search of various places with A/​C. The IMAX theater was our last stop before our flight and we watched Hurricane on the Bayou (a must-​see film, seriously).
One thing about NOLA is that it is much slower paced than LA. There was one girl selling tickets and she had no sense of urgency in her demeanor. She even confirmed that the movie was starting in 2 minutes but she didn’t speed up at all. When we finally rushed down to the theater, the attendant announced that «we were late.» Well, duh!
Anyway, the movie was great, the seats were comfortable and the A/​C felt wonderful.

We came here to see Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides, I mean a good movie to catch in IMAX 3D if you can. It was a great experience. I love that there was no bothersome previews, it was STM straight to the movie right at the published start time. There was no fuss no muss just a great experience. The seating is huge and there are great seats just about everywhere in the theatre.
The only downside I would say is that the concession are PRICEY! For a small cup (equivalent to a go cup) of drink it is $ 3.50 bottled water is $ 2 each and a large popcorn will set you back $ 7 which is a lot even for movie standards. The other downside (possibly) is that they still sell tickets and let people arrive considerably late, like halfway into the movie late, which is a bit annoying but I guess that happens in any theatre.
I also came here after Katrina and saw Hurricane on the Bayou. It was ok, not great, and probably geared more for tourists than the locals. I found it to be a bit cheesy to be honest.
**Pro Tip: Head to Wal Mart, stuff your purse with $ 1 candies and also grab some bottled sodas (if that’s your bag) and/​or waters beforehand and you will save yourself a MINT. Just grab the popcorn here.

We started our tour of the city’s Audubon attractions with a show at the IMAX.
We saw the Under the Sea 3D. It was really cool. The way that the fish and seals seem to swim all around you is amazing. It was a neat movie, though I’m sure the others are great as well.
It’s right next to the aquarium, so make it part of your stop there.
Note: If you are going to visit the other Audubon attractions like the Aquarium, Insectarium or Zoo, you should get the discounted tickets to all of them which are good for five days after your first entry.

I’ve only been here a handful of times, but not because I’m not a fan. It’s just not on my regular rotation of places to go (and I’m not a huge movie person to begin with. It’s hard to sit still for that long. Which isn’t terribly surprising if you’ve met me.)
Our IMAX is probably just like every other IMAX, I’d imagine. Except ours sells beer! Yet another reason New Orleans is better than the rest of the universe. Do YOUR movie theaters sell beer? Doubtful. Really, I should give them another star for the whole beer thing, but I’ll wait until I go back for another visit. It’s been a while…

A nice get away from Bourbon Street. If you have been to an IMAX Theatre before, this one is like the others… nothing really to separate it from the others I have been to.
The seats were a really narrow as I had to squeeze my fat ass into them… That definitely could be improved.
While I enjoyed the movie, however, a friend of mine I went with called it «one very expensive nap». He had a little too much Bourbon Street the night before.
If you want a break from the bars, music and food, swing by the IMAX and check out the flick!

I love IMAX movies. In the past, they seemed really fancy and overpriced, since most of the movies are under an hour. You’re clearly paying for the experience of watching a film specifically designed for a monster-​sized screen. Given the current price of regular movies, there’s no reason not to see an IMAX film.
We were visiting the Aquarium of the Americas (see my separate review) and purchased the combo ticket with the IMAX. For our film, we chose the poignant «Hurricane on the Bayou,» a film that centers on Hurricane Katrina and the necessity to preserve the wetlands of Louisiana.
The film was very touching and featured local musicians, including Amanda Shaw (who we had just seen at the New Orleans Seafood Festival). It was well worth the ticket price (especially since it was lower as a combination ticket).
Be aware that if you have tourism coupons for the Aquarium, they will not be honored with combination tickets (Aquarium + IMAX, for example).

I like IMAX wherever I go, but you want to visit the one in NO and see «Hurricane on the Bayou.» It is a documentary of the Katrina disaster. The show is very moving and as usual extremely well done. It will change your understanding of what happened and what has to be done to prevent another Katrina in the future.

I watched a showing of «Hurricane on the Bayou» at this IMAX with a middle-​aged man, a cynical adolescent, and a precocious but very-​much-​twelve twelve-​year-​old on said twelve-year-old’s birthday. The theater itself was a standard IMAX and therefore inherently impressive, but the movie was moving and a great show for all four of us to watch. (The mother, incidentally, was gambling. I joined her when the boys hit up the insectarium.) «Hurricane on the Bayou» did a fantastic job showcasing the tenacity and the soul of the city, and it made me appreciate our trip all the more. I’d recommend this theater and this show in particular to anyone passing through New Orleans.

Super hi-​tech Imax theatre, immense in scale and located near the nifty Audobon Aquarium. This venue sports one of the rare flat screen Imax 3D with hi definition imaging.
One of the special films on the roster «Hurricaine on the Bayou» tells the tale of Katrina and her effect on Louisiana wildlife and wetlands. It’s a epic story of revival and survival, of regrowth and the spirit of the land and nature– all in fabulous 3D. Must see.
