Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

I just wasn’t impressed. But then again, I’m comparing to the Baltimore Aquarium which seems to have much more. I didn’t see one tank here that I didn’t feel was adequate in size. In particular, I remember a tank with these metallic/​robot-​looking fish that just seemed crowded. They had no way to spread out. Same for many of the jellyfish tanks. Even the tanks with the larger animals such as turtles, sharks, etc weren’t that great. And then the penguins… so small! It was a shame.

This place is amazing and we weren’t even visiting with our kids. My husband and I considered going back a second time because we enjoyed it so much. Really well done. We fed the sting rays and the parakeets (adorable.) We watched the SCUBA divers clean the tube tunnel tank, we watched the keepers feed the penguins and enjoyed the entire place. A+. We purchased the Experience ticket because we also visited the Insectarium-​which was also great, and the Zoo (which could have been a lot better.)

I have been to lots of aquariums. This ranks ⁴⁄₅ on my list. It is a small yet pretty cool aquarium! You can see lots like sting rays, owl, otters, penguins, sea horses, jelly fish etc.
I had a nice time and will return again.

Excellent all day fun for the family at the Aquarium in New Orleans. Price is expensive but worth it if you need a cool indoor activity to tire the little ones out. Bonus break for mom and dad is the huge IMAX movie theater with great shows on ocean, wetlands, hurricanes, etc. You can schedule the movie time around other presentations such as penguin feeding, sting ray feeding, reef talk and otter talk. The exhibits are well planned and accommodate crowds nicely. There is a café with drinks and snacks and a nice gift shop. Highlights include the giant shark tank, the walk through tank tunnel, the rainforest tree climb, and the frog room. It was fun for all and an easy walk from the hotel. If we had more time we would’ve visited the nearby Insectarium and Butterfly Museum.

Last minute trip for my husband and myself and we had a blast. We purchase the Audubon Experience and enjoyed all the parks. Perfect for true family time!

Not the largest of aquariums but has some good exhibits and the staff is nice. Not cheap but when I went you could pay a bit more and add several other museums in town for a better deal overall.

My father, daughter, and I decided to take a field trip to the Great N.O., and while there we wanted to take my daughter to the one of the wonderful Aquariums of the United States. The Audubon aquarium offers amazing pricing, compared to aquariums in other regions and it was well worth the money! The aquarium only takes an hour and half to two hours to run through, so I would encourage families to buy a multi pass to the zoo, if you have a whole day to spend in New Orleans. There were a lot of neat exhibits and some very interesting sea animals that I have never seen before. The aquarium is well designed and you can easily flow through without worrying about missing anything. Our favorite parts were the Great Maya Reef area, the shark tank (also known as the Gulf of Mexico Exhibit), the otters, penguins, and the sting rays! We really did not have a dull moment and loved every inch of the aquarium. My only gripe is upon entering and when purchasing our tickets, no one told us to check for daily schedule of different features within the aquarium or that we could pay to feed the sting rays. My daughter was interested in seeing the sting rays being feed and I assumed as long as we made it in time she could watch this activity. It turned out visitors can feed the sting rays for an additional $ 4.50 but it is first come first serve and they only allow 15 people during each feeding time. So, be sure to stop by information if your kids are interested in participating in any exhibits. Other than that, we had a great time and I would surely go back!

This aquarium is not that great. It is small. If you are going to have an underwater tunnel, make it more than 15 ft long. It’s so short it gets super crowded and is over in a second. Take a page from the book of the philly aquarium, please. Also– what kind of aquarium doesn’t have an octopus!!! And the final/​real reason they get a 2 star rating is that they feature an entire exhibit sponsored by bp, shell and other oil companies that extols the virtues of offshore oil drilling and how the leftover platforms are just so wonderful for restoring the reef habitat and as great for fishing. When I saw that I did a combo eye roll and gag. Seriously?! What self respecting aquarium features this kind of nonsense and teaches it to the hundreds of children that visit daily. Call me old fashioned, but I like my nature conservatories/​aquariums/​zoos and the like to come with a big ol’ helping of environmental/​societal responsibility and a side of guilt for not recycling as much as i should and driving my low mpg vehicle there. And I expect institutions that exist to educate the public about the natural world and promote conservation so future generations can enjoy these same wonders to be sincere.
Now for its more redeeming features– the penguins are awesome, and you can read their names on their wing bands. Shout out to my son’s favorite penguin, Sticky! They have a very nice exhibit featuring fish and wildlife native to the Mississippi river and Louisiana.

Great for Kids, but Adults will not be bored…
I am a scuba diver and have seen many of these in the wild, but this would be REALLY great for a non diver!

We came here on Monday, the day of Lundi Gras. On Unilocal it, said it was closed on Mondays. We were going to walk away but we noticed people buying tickets and walking in. We lucked out and were able to buy tickets to the aquarium… it’s $ 25 per person.
It brought out the kid in me to see all types of sea creatures. They also had one section/​room where they had parakeets flying around freely. At one point, we saw a random owl just sitting on top of some rocks. It was funny because one of us swore it was real, while two of us thought it was fake. Our one friend said she saw it blink, so we’re just standing there staring at it waiting for it to move. We were standing there for about 10 mins when it finally moved. it is real.
I find it relaxing watching these sea amimals swimming in the water…

This aquarium is cool for the young and old (er!)
There is your typical aquariums with big glass windows for you to view the fish but there are also huge Windows that extend from the roof to the floor and go around the corner. This particular section had huge sharks, stingrays and a variety of other huge fish swimming around inside.
You can feed the stingrays but you need to pre book at the kiosk /​shop just before the exhibit. It was only $ 2, so it filled up quickly and we missed out.
There are two outdoor sections, one with Amazon wildlife and one with wildlife from the Mississippi. There was albino crocodile, fish, a few birds, snake and other animals.
I particularly enjoyed watching the jellyfish and seahorses.
There are several photo points where you can take your own photos with statues of sea life and also a small aquarium with a ‘hole’ in the middle. Kids can crawl under and put their heads in which looked cool.

I brought my grandkids ages two and three to the aquarium this past weekend. I personally loved it, and wish I could’ve spent more time there, but the attention span of a two and three year old lent us to spending about an hour and a half there.
The exhibits are wonderful, the volunteers are helpful, and everything is really clean.
We especially loved the parakeet area! Even without the sticks of food, they were coming right up to us and sitting on our shoulders and climbing all over our clothes!
Here’s where I have a couple of issues…
I find it to be ridiculously expensive. It’s just nuts that it’s $ 18.95 for a two year old.
For me, a two year old, and a three year old, and their mother, it cost $ 87.50. I think kids should be broken up by age with 2 – 5 being $ 12.95, and 6 – 12 being $ 16.95. I also think they should offer a discount to locals.
After doing some research online, I found that by paying just $ 65 more, I could’ve gotten a year long membership to ALL Audubon parks for me, my boyfriend, both of my grandkids. I feel like this should’ve been said or upsold at the ticket counter… especially since it was 10 am, and no one was in line behind me. So instead of upselling me a better deal, I came away disgusted with the prices.
Another issue that I had was that I didn’t like how there were machines and opportunities EVERYWHERE that cost even more money. $ 1.50 for a stick to feed the birds. $ 2 for a photo booth. $ 1 for the penny press. The list goes on. Thank God my grandkids were too young to ask for these things.

Great aquarium.
Nice layout, diverse fish. Staff are very friendly and informative. Could’ve been more fish to see. But over all it was a good time. I definitely recommend coming here if you enjoy learning while on your trip.

Highlights are:
Stingray touch pool: they are very approachable. I won’t ruin it for those who want to touch them. Apparently they’ve had a part of their barbed stinger removed so there’s no chance of being stung.
Stingray feeding at the touch pool: thank you Unilocalers for the tip to get the feeding pass from the second floor gift store! Even though you were only given a few strips of food, this is an experience you won’t forget.
We could not get a backstage pass to pet and feed the penguins but watching them is fun. They are so endearing. Make sure you lookout for the one isolated guy on the right hiding in the recessed area: that seemed like a timeout :)
Otters: there’s a couple who seem inseparable. There’s Emma a separate otter who has her own Web cam. It’s a recording though.
Albino alligator: he seems to be motionless most of the time but look below the water. The lighting makes him look neon green.
Seahorses and jellyfish: I could have watched them for ages.
There’s a lot to see and displays are well done.
Before you enter, there’s an opportunity to take a pictures. Nice souvenir if you’re willing to drop $ 35 or so.

Always a good choice for the kids. Best part was the bird feeding (u have to pay $ 1.50 for a feeding stock). Stingray petting is fun too, and the big eels are interesting. The scheduled penguin show is informative altho a bit long for little ones.
Parking nearby can be *very* expensive, might be good to do some research on this.

This was a really great aquarium. I had a really good time. The tanks were all clean and the staff was friendly. It only took about an hour to cruise through and see all the different aquariums.
I loved the penguin exhibit. I just think they are so cute and I really enjoyed watching them interact.
Lots of cool fish in all sizes, shapes, and colors. I especially enjoyed all the varieties of seahorses. They are really fun to watch. And the stingrays were great too.
I like how the aquarium is laid out by sections of the world. They had a huge anaconda. Lots of eels also. Even the electric eel.
And you have to have an alligator, or it just wouldn’t be Louisiana.
The huge tank downstairs is amazing. Lots of sharks in that one too.
Nice place to spend a little time!

One of the best aquariums I have visited — and I am from Florida, so that says a lot! This is a fairly decent sized two story aquarium and there’s TONS of different sea creatures to look at. My favorite part was definitely Parakeet Pointe! I LOVED feeding all the cute little birdies! I also loved petting the sting rays!
The location is convenient to visitors staying in the French Quarter — it is directly across the street from Harrah’s Casino which is surrounded by tons of restaurants and shopping.
A word of advice: Pull out cash before entering the aquarium.

Happy 25^th birthday Audubon Aquarium! I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and it remains one of my favorite things about NOLA.
The aquarium is spread out across two floors with several different sections depending on the type of animals. Watch out for the rainforest section, yall! I thought Louisiana was humid…
My favorite part is watching the penguins and I hear that for a fee, you can get up close and personal with them. There is also a stingray tank where you can pet them (pretty slimy!).
The facility is clean and very well kept up. There are also good food courts inside if you get hungry.
Tip: I attended the Scales and Ales event this year and it was amazing! The ticket was $ 75 and you get free food and drinks from several local restaurants and free reign of the facility. Great way to support both the Audubon aquarium and zoo. If you can make it next year, you should definitely go!
