History

Established in 2002.

Owner and chocolatier, Cheryl Scripter created Bittersweet Confections in 2002 with a mission to create a superior line of handmade chocolate truffles that reflect the personality and flavor of New Orleans. Using local ingredients and European chocolate, she began selling her products at local outdoor markets. As her business grew, Bittersweet Confections was able to open a retail store in 2005 in the Uptown section of New Orleans. However, in August of 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed her home and business. Temporarily closed for nine months, she was able to share kitchen space with other chefs until February, 2008 where her Canal Blvd. location opened on Valentine’s Day. Proudly serving New Orleanians’ the finest artisan chocolates, handmade pastries, cupcakes and custom cakes was again interrupted by another unfortunate obstacle. Bittersweet was again temporarily closed for six months until moving to a new, larger location in the Warehouse District of New Orleans.
